ALEX in Hamburg impresses with its pleasant atmosphere and friendly service—perfect for a cozy evening with friends. My dish, spaghetti with crispy breaded cheese and generous amounts of Parmesan, was delicious and filling. The drink selection is also extensive, and the iced tea was refreshing. Overall, a good place to eat and relax, even if the prices are a bit on the higher side.

We had a bad experience at this restaurant. We went there because of the good reviews. Unfortunately, the wait was long, and tables that ordered after us had already eaten their food. Not recommended.

We were there for the breakfast buffet 3 years ago, and everything was good and delicious... Now we were there again on Saturday for the breakfast buffet and were very disappointed! For over 17 euros per person, we only had self-service sausage from the supermarket and meatballs from a packet. The fruit was carelessly chopped (with core and stalk) and packed into the bowl! The same was true of the vegetables! If we ever come to Hamburg again...which will probably happen more often...we certainly won't go to Alex again!

Beautiful restaurant right on the piers with a fantastic view of the harbor... The food is a mix of modern and classic. The drinks are a nice change from the usual soft drinks. I generally enjoy going to an Alex... It's a bit of a shame that they didn't install air conditioning in such a new building, so it gets very warm upstairs, which is a shame for the staff and the feel-good factor. The windows can be opened, but the sun then shines in full force...

It's a shame. The chain usually works very well. If you end up with a maggot in your salad and small fruit flies in your soda, that's a common occurrence. But if you then get the impression that you would rather have eaten it than spoken to the waiter, it's really annoying and unprofessional of the staff. Simply saying a proper apology and being a bit friendly isn't too much to ask!

Waiters are overwhelmed and grumpy if you give little tip.

A lovely last evening of my trip through the north. The burger was very well prepared, the lasagna was equally delicious, and the drinks were also very well prepared. Definitely recommended.

I can't really give a fair review, as I only had a café latte and a cake with cream, although the cream had to be refilled. It happens sometimes, but it's all good.

We were at Alex on Tuesday around 3:30 p.m. The weather was great, the place was packed. I ordered three wine spritzers, and after a while, a water spritzer arrived. I pointed out that I had ordered three. Two more water spritzers arrived! They complained. Then three very tasty, unfortunately rather sour, slammed down on the table. I then paid and left only a very small tip. Then my remaining change was slapped back down without a word, and no "please" or "thank you"! If a man (Irdon H) works in service and is so enthusiastic, he should be working in the basement. What a shame!

Unfortunately, it was completely overcrowded and there wasn't a single spot in the shade (not even inside). So we left without ordering. We were really keen to go to ALEX in Hamburg because they're the only places in Hamburg that still have the baguettes.

I had my trial day with you on Monday. Unfortunately, my impression wasn't very positive. When I arrived, the deputy manager didn't greet me because she seemed to be dealing with a personal problem. As a new trial worker, a friendly welcome would have been very important to make me feel welcome. Instead, I was immediately told that I wasn't wearing black shoes. I explained that unfortunately, I didn't have any suitable shoes at home, but that I was, of course, willing to buy some as soon as I was hired permanently. I can't spend 100 euros for an hour's work. I would like to emphasize that respectful and open interaction is very important to me. Therefore, the first impression was rather difficult for me. I hope you understand my feedback as constructive criticism.

Disappointing in my opinion: The waffles were cold and undercooked, my second dish arrived later than the next table's even though I had ordered earlier, the cutlery was damaged, and my complaint was ignored—but I was still charged the full price.

Very poor service and cold food. A staff member was unkind refusing to take a picture of me and my kids because “he did not have time for this”. Other staff did it but seem to be unhappy to help. Our burgers were served cold. While the ambiance was nice, I will never return.

We actually always enjoy going to Alex. The location right on the Elbe is great, and so have the food and drinks so far. The high prices don't bother us too much, as long as the value for money is reasonably good. However, our last visit was a complete disappointment. The service was unfriendly and uncoordinated. The first drink (a beer) arrived after a few minutes, the second a quarter of an hour later. The "Pommes de Luxe" were a bad joke: for over €7.00, there were neither the pepperoni nor fresh herbs mentioned on the menu, but merely a few ends of spring onions (which really belonged in the compost bin, not on a plate!) and one (!) sad onion ring... The portion was also very small. Even though it was busy on this sunny summer day and the kitchen and service staff were certainly busy, you can't offer this kind of service. We're done for now and would rather go somewhere else on the Elbe...

We actually found a spot outside, right by the harbor in Hamburg, in glorious sunshine. It was amazing, everything was top-notch value for money, considering the view and the surroundings. Great food, super tasty, and great drinks. The chairs and benches are incredibly comfortable, you can't say anything else. As it gets dark, they put small lamps on the table, making everything very cozy. The food we ordered was warm and tasted delicious. Now the only hitch: the service is awful. If we hadn't chased the waiter every time we wanted something, we would have still been sitting without drinks today. I ordered a Coke, got a glass with ice, and 20 minutes later, my bottle of Coke, the ice had already melted. In the two and a half hours we sat there, we weren't even asked if we wanted anything else. We chased after the waiter to get a nightstand and an espresso. When it came to paying, though, it was quicker. Our conclusion: Top location with super delicious food, amazing view, so we'll just follow the waiter and maybe we were just unlucky.

On Thursday after 5 p.m., we ordered special summer drinks that were supposed to include a €6 discount. However, the waiter charged the regular price, as on normal days. Even after contacting the manager, we received only a simple apology, but the price difference was not refunded.

Modern cuisine meets traditional dishes. The atmosphere is fantastic, although the open kitchen on the first floor is quite noisy. The view from there is sensational and completely compensates for the disappointment, especially in the evening with the harbor view at sunset. Highly recommended.

We visited the Alex spontaneously for a Saturday breakfast. We were lucky to get a seat, they seem to be pretty well booked - probably worth to keep in mind. Having a little luck to be quite early, we got a nice table at a huge window with a view over the harbor. Nice. The staff was friendly and attentive. The breakfast was pretty good, I found everything that I expected and more ...

This time, a disappointing visit, after having been here a few years ago. We had to wait almost 30 minutes before we could even order anything. The food was nothing special, and the portions were quite modest. The price/performance ratio isn't right here. Most of the waiters weren't particularly motivated. It might be nice to sit down and have a drink in the evening, but we can't recommend the food.

The location is great, and the staff couldn't be worse. The fact that we got anything at all was thanks to our pushiness, and getting a bill was apparently impossible.

The food and drinks were absolutely top-notch, with a view of the Elbe River and the harbor. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired – we had to wait a long time for the server who seemed to be in charge, while colleagues were standing inside at the counter, and we also had to wait a long time for a relatively small meal (40 minutes).

Great view, unfortunately, I waited over 15 minutes for a cappuccino and a latte macchiato, which was unfortunately only lukewarm. A shame. I told the waitress, who just shrugged her shoulders. Well, maybe I'll try again.

The breakfast offering was very disappointing overall. Hygiene deficiencies were immediately apparent. The table was dirty and was only wiped after I asked for it. The menu was also stained. Furthermore, the juice glasses were sticky and could only be touched with a napkin. The buffet only served hard-boiled eggs. Soft-boiled eggs were not offered, which I always expect from a breakfast buffet in this price range. The covers for the dishes were very unstable and seemed untrustworthy. It all had the feel of a cheap cafeteria. We paid €66 for two people, and it was absolutely unjustified. The coffee deserves special mention. It was good and fresh, which is why the restaurant is recommended only for a quick coffee stop due to its excellent location. I would definitely not return for a relaxed and clean breakfast experience.

Location: next to the harbour with lovely view of harbour and city. Food: we had just local beer and sparing water. Service: cannot say satisfying. Waiter ( a little hulk waiter especially) was not really nice and he was rude/ ignoring us during payment. The other waitresses were much more nicer and cheerful. It was understandable that it is a bit crowded and well served meal, however, it is not the way to ignore customer.

From here you have a beautiful view over the port of Hamburg.

Today, as a Hamburg resident, I happened upon this place by chance after a ride in an amphibious bus. People, honestly, service is different. I've been doing it myself for 35 years. I also take into account that you're a tourist hangout. But, rude staff, wrong drink, no napkins... Once and never again. Hospitality is different. The tip confirmed the poor service. 0.0 for such behavior. You definitely won't see me again. A tourist hangout where you can treat the guests however you like, you usually only see them once anyway. No thanks, we really have other options in the most beautiful city where you're treated like a guest. Of course, tips are welcome.

I would have liked to give 5 stars, but the service leaves a lot to be desired and urgently needs training. 8 employees were standing around at the counter, chatting privately and completely inattentive. The wait until a friendly server came to me was almost 6 minutes. Even eye contact with a man at the counter did not shorten the wait. After ordering my drinks and food, it took a relatively long time for the drink to arrive. The food arrived within a reasonable time. During the meal, no one asked if everything was OK. The food and drinks (soda) were delicious. I would have liked to have ordered something else. I had to actively speak to a member of staff about the bill. It's a real shame that the service is so bad considering the location and the food/drinks.

We had breakfast here. We all had the buffet, it was great, and the view of the Elbe and the ships was really beautiful. It was cozy, the staff were friendly, and the breakfast was great with a huge selection. We'd love to come back.

Always happy, everything is great

We received a warm welcome at Alex Restaurant, located on Hamburg's Überseebrücke. We were lucky enough to be seated upstairs, which offered us a magnificent view of Hamburg Harbor. Finally, we were able to enjoy fresh fish, especially herring, a far cry from the traditional breaded fish. The plates are generous and well-filled, perfect for a good appetite. The prices remain very affordable, which makes the experience even more enjoyable. The restaurant offers menus in both English and French, making choosing a meal much easier. We particularly enjoyed the bruschettas, which were delicious and flavorful. There's something for every taste and budget—a real plus! I highly recommend this restaurant for its welcome, its quality, and its unique setting.

The ambiance is very nice because you can enjoy a great view of the water. Unfortunately, the service took a long time. We were brought the wrong food (which was quickly recognized and corrected by the waiter). Unfortunately, the schnitzel isn't filling, and the taste is only okay for the price. Afterwards, we had a banoffee waffle. The menu says "2 waffles." We specifically asked for two waffles. Afterward, we got it, and we got only one waffle, which we actually found a disgrace. So, never again for us.

I spontaneously stopped by Alex for dinner. I know Alex from Wiesbaden and go there often. But the view of the Cap San Diego, a good Duckstein, and good food...you can spend €2 more for that than in the city. The price-performance ratio is excellent, though. It took a while at first for someone to come, but it was also very busy on the terrace. Thanks for the lovely evening.

We only had a few drinks. The service was good and snappy. The atmosphere was cheerful and cozy. There's a beautiful view, too.

I've been to Alex several times. The food, today the Hamburg panfish, is always delicious. The service is friendly, and the view is fantastic.

The service was super friendly, and the ambiance, including the fantastic view, is very nice! Unfortunately, I can't recommend the food at all. I've never had such a bad burger, and it costs around €20 with a side dish. My special request for braised onions was unfortunately ignored. Instead, I got these huge raw onion rings. The meat looks a lot like a frozen patty and really didn't taste good. The same goes for the chicken schnitzel. It's frozen, and the breading had already gone very dark in the fryer. The salad was wilted. Given the good location, I would come back, but only for a drink.

It was nice to sit there and enjoy the view.

Unfortunately, a very disappointing visit. The service was extremely unfriendly – one woman with black hair, in particular, stood out for her disrespectful behavior. It felt like the employees generally didn't want to work. The atmosphere was correspondingly unpleasant. Overall, a disastrous experience, one I definitely wouldn't want to have again.

I only ordered a matcha latte, which was delicious. However, the waitresses weren't particularly friendly and seemed stressed. On top of that, we had to wait almost 20 minutes for an apple spritzer, despite asking repeatedly, even though my friend's 6-year-old daughter was extremely thirsty. It was very rude, and when the drink finally arrived, it was a large apple spritzer instead of a small one. Based on the service alone: never again.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it. The server was really unfriendly and rude. It's not our fault that he has to work... He was annoyed by everything the whole time. He also made a mistake in taking our order. We all found the sodas way too sweet. My meal was very greasy, the others were fine.

We had an older voucher and used it to spend at Alex. Upon arrival, we presented the voucher and mentioned it. "We'll add it to the bill." Was the response. It made sense for us. I ordered a Currywurst Deluxe. Truffle mayo included. But I was supposed to order mayo separately, as the system dictates. OK, so I did. Suddenly, the voucher was no longer available for the bill. I asked the manager: "We don't charge any more." But you took the money from the purchase of the voucher?! When I was then asked to pay an extra 80 cents for the mayo (even though I never actually wanted it), I expressed my displeasure by not paying a tip. Afterward, the receipt was thrown on the table and clearly demonstrated what was going on here: Tourists come and tourists go. The rest doesn't matter.

I ordered two drinks. The first arrived after five minutes, while the second, a Solero shake, unfortunately took 20 minutes. It was warm, and unfortunately, the ice-cold milk and Solero ice cream scoops weren't noticeable. Therefore, the spoon was completely unnecessary. Conclusion: If they had told us beforehand that the shake was coming from the kitchen, I would have ordered something else. We won't be seeing this place again!

I was there for brunch – a great buffet at a very fair price with a beautiful view from the first floor. Only the very watery orange juice could be improved – otherwise everything was delicious and the service was attentive and friendly.

Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed with the food. The fried fish was a disaster. The sweet potato fries were just as weak. The pasta was swimming in oil. After a week on the Aida, the comparison is abysmal. Sorry, but I hope this will motivate me to clean up the kitchen!

Absolutely terrible service. They ignore you for a long time, you order something, but they get the wrong thing twice, and you have to wait a long time. The waiters are unfriendly. The waiters behave in a completely arrogant manner.

Breakfast with a view of the harbor entrance is the usual Alex quality, although the prices for the breakfast buffet have become quite steep these days. If the weather is nice on the weekend, you shouldn't even bother going to the breakfast buffet without a reservation.

Look at the picture of my completely overpriced Caesar salad... that's a joke for the price. This is what it looked like when it arrived. Small and unloved. It felt like just three lettuce leaves and Parmesan cheese. The dressing tasted like it came from a shelf and not homemade. ALEX really only caters to tourists. You won't get full. The waiters played it cool and weren't particularly courteous. It took forever to get any attention. The baked potato was okay, but the side salad next to it was completely dried out. I had to leave it. What a waste of money. I won't be back. You can save yourself the apologies here in the reviews and in the restaurant if you never change anything. Bottom line: eating to fill you up and have something tasty in your stomach - not possible there in my opinion.

Our finale of our company outing there was fantastic. The service was friendly and very quick. Everyone enjoyed the food. The selection of food and drinks is excellent. The ALEX has a fantastic location with a view of the harbor. I'd love to come back.
