Akkawy in Berlin

Anyone who likes Levantine cuisine will love this place! The dishes are truly delicious and prepared with love, and you can tell! The portions are really generous, too. The owners are friendly. Definitely try everything; the Akkawy platter is a special recommendation!

Very tasty Levante cuisine in a simply furnished but cozy restaurant. All dishes are vegetarian. We had an akkawy plate with beetroot hummus, zahar (baked cauliflower with tahini), mujadara (lentil and rice dish) and one foul. Both were very tasty. The service was extremely attentive and the prices were quite low - great value! You definitely won't spend the whole evening here, but Akkawy is definitely worth a stop before moving on to concerts or bars.

Tip top shop! The dishes that the three of us shared (baked cauliflower, shakshuka with 3 eggs, a lunch plate and a portion of lentil rice, pita) were all delicious and sufficient. The whole thing came within 20 minutes and cost €45, as I said, for 3. We are fans now and will definitely come back.

We discovered this restaurant by chance during a short vacation in Berlin. The staff is super accommodating and friendly! I was there with an English-speaking companion and when the employee noticed that only I spoke German, he immediately switched to English. The food was very, very tasty. At first I was a bit worried that I wouldn't be full, but the portions were more than enough for both of us. The price quoted was more than top for Berlin conditions! Paid just under €35 for 3 main courses and 2 drinks. Absolutely recommended. The only criticism: no card payment is accepted and that was written in ballpoint pen on a piece of paper hanging below the counter. In addition to us, there were two other groups who didn't see this piece of paper and had to see how far we could get with the cash we had.

My third follow-up visit to Akkawy-I had to order my favorite, a baked zahra (cauliflower) mix with Indian spice in an iron skillet. I paired it with a lentil soup—both vegan. The zahra is decadent, yet every bite feels as exciting as the first—pure “WOW.” For the soup, instead of the usual topping of crushed dry pita (a divine combination when I tried last time), the host thoughtfully offered me a side of rice, knowing I’m skipping gluten at this moment. It’s absolutely worth traveling across neighborhood here for a bite. Every time I visit, I find myself debating what to order—it’s all that good.

Very, very tasty food, and the owner of the restaurant akkawy was extremely polite. I had the akkawy platter for one person, it was incredibly tasty, there were several things on the plate that you could eat. I tried it with eggplant hummus. Everything was just great, I can only recommend it. Thank you

I was very pleased with the delicious food at Akkawy. We were 3 people and shared a mix plate for two, and we appreciated that we were advised to not order 2 hummus as we wouldn’t be able to finish it. Which he was right about, but he could easily have gotten more money from us. I thought the wait time was appropriate, good portion sizes, with good flavor, and the price was very reasonable! If I lived in Berlin this would definitely be a regular place I’d go to.

Heavenly hummus in a nice company like shakshuka, aubergine spread, mushrooms, roasted cauliflower etc. I’m yet to try their sandwiches, but expectations set by this place are high! Also loved how quickly everything was served

The one thing I would blindly recommend is the Msabaha! Lemony, slightly warm hummus, served with 2 pita breads (would be better with 3, 2 are never enough), extremely tasty! I also tried the shavvarma sandwich, which was with jackfruit and a lot of veggies, and it convinced me too. I really like that the menu is all vegetarian, tasty, and pretentionless.

The place is all about the food, and you can notice it. Great place 100% recommend. Staff friendly. They take some time to prepare the food, but it’s totally worth it, they take their time because everything is fresh made.

This is honestly the best vegan/ vegetarian restaurant I've been to. Food is top, not what I expected, the Hummus Shawarma itself I couldn't tell it was vegan at all they made it so good and tasty. Hummus Shakshuka is on another level and also spicy. They also serve different vegan/vegetarian dishes and soups. The taste is oriental a mix of northern African, Arabic, and Indian it's very interesting. The food is really high quality and bio. The portions are way more than enough it's worth every cent and the rest I can take home with. The place itself is cozy and comfortable, and so is the atmosphere there, very clean, very nice. The service I can never complain about, they serve as quickly as possible, pretty friendly staff they speak German, English and Arabic. I'd definitely recommend it 👌🏿.

Wow! The hummus here is amazing. We had the jackfruit hummus and msabaha. Even if you're a meat eater, you'll appreciate the quality and flavor of their hummus. It puts the hummus offerings on Sonnenallee to shame! A must-try.

First of all: the worst vegan schvvarma I have ever eaten. I was in food heaven. The guys are friendly and super relaxed. Also give a recommendation if you don't know what to do next. We chose the Shvvarma with a portion of hummus and mushrooms with extra homemade hot sauce on the side. I swear I couldn't figure it out anymore. It tasted like a real schwarma. Even better. Really spicy, the bread was delicious, lots of sesame sauce and delicious sour snacks like pickles, olives and green peppers on the side. The taste of the mushrooms in the hummus was also top notch. At first we thought these would be such small portions, but then we didn't quite finish the hummus and took it with us. I also caught a glimpse of the plate for 2 and will have that next time. Definitely recommended 🤤 we'll be back!

Best shop in the neighborhood. Always friendly, always tasty, always a nice conversation with the staff. 5 stars are more than deserved.

Unfortunately, the store didn't entirely convince us. The hummus and the pita bread were at best average good, but definitely not a 4.9. The service was very friendly, but the toilet and the area near the sink were really unpleasantly dirty and with the plastic chairs on the street it was more reminiscent of a snack bar (not bad, you just have to be prepared for it). We had Hummus Shavvarma and Hummus Eggplant, perhaps the wrong choice because the shop itself smelled incredibly delicious. It's a shame, we didn't eat. :(

Great vegetarian restaurant, I had the cauliflower hummus, and my friend had the eggplant sandwich. We both enjoyed our meals. One pita is not enough, BUT it wasn’t expensive to add another pita. Overall, super enjoyable, would recommend.

The most lip-smacking, well packaged and enjoyable take away meal I have had in Berlin. The restaurant is simple, but nice & comfortable and the people working there are pleasant, so I would imagine that eating at the restaurant would be great too. Although, I picked food to-go. The food was wholesome & delicious. I picked the Akkawy for two with Shavarma hummus that has jackfruit in it (you can see in the picture), which was a very good portion and could even be shared by three people. The variety was just perfect to feel indulgent and yet full with adequate quantity. Everything was so authentic & scrumptious, even if you’re not a vegetarian or vegan, you’ll not miss meat & love the food. I plan to go again & again.

We went here to try the vegan shawarma hummus dish, which was good, but decided to also try one of their combi dishes. We went for the mushrooms in tamarind sauce hummus dish and it was delicious! It comes with a side of their baked cauliflower, which was also very tasty, creamy and an absolute delight. The owners are very friendly and the place is small but welcoming, with also a few small tables available outside. Very pleased to have found this little gem.
