Prices have remained moderate, but the food is no longer recommendable. Taste and comfort are very subjective. Nevertheless, I can't understand the 5-star reviews. The gyros was completely dry; my complaint led to a discussion with the owner. At least €7 was deducted from the bill. Even the fries were overcooked, and you could taste the forgotten oil change. Many people simply need to spend a few euros and move with the times, otherwise they'll be left behind, and even the last remaining regulars will realize that it can be done much better.

I was there a few days ago. My companion had gyros and I had moussaka. What can I say?! It was anything but good. I can understand and confirm some of the negative reviews here. In my opinion, the moussaka wasn't fresh...the minced meat was dry, and there was no sign of a tasty béchamel sauce. The food was truly awful. My friend's gyros was also a disaster—not tasty, and the meat was dry as well. At least we got a small discount when we pointed this out. I can only partially understand the very good reviews. Of course, everything is a matter of taste, but in some respects, it's impossible to sugarcoat the quality of the ingredients and the food. I gave it a higher rating because of the discount.

1 star because it was so bad overall that I will never eat there again. Food: The kebabs were edible, but the gyros was more like goulash. Tough and rubbery, so half of it was left uneaten. Service: Totally unfriendly. There was a chair missing at our table. When we asked about it, the owner was very rude to us. Some of the staff looked like they had just gotten out of bed and weren't fully awake. Atmosphere: It was lunchtime, just opened. But the tablecloth had a stain. The candlesticks were dirty and sticky, the carpet was grimy, the doorknob on the entrance door was almost falling off, and overall the atmosphere was very poor.

We've been eating there every now and then for several years. Very tasty, generous portions, and even if you have special requests, they'll accommodate them. Plus, the owners are very nice and the staff are friendly. Always happy to come back.

We were a group of seven and had been looking forward to delicious Greek food based on word of mouth. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. We've been eating out regularly for years, but we've never had such bad Greek food. The side salad was pretty tasteless, the gyros was salty and partly burnt. We can't say much about the service...because there was hardly any. We were rarely asked about drinks, and when we were, the staff seemed extremely grumpy. We unfortunately cannot recommend this restaurant.

We always enjoy going there for gyros with fries. The gyros are typically Greek and by far the best and juiciest in the region...! The owner is passionate about his work, and all the staff are always very friendly and accommodating.

A wonderful family restaurant with genuine Greek hospitality. You immediately feel welcome and almost like you're at a friend's home. The service is warm, attentive, and child-friendly, making the visit particularly enjoyable. The food was fantastic. Everything was freshly prepared, generous portions, and full of flavor. We were particularly impressed by the traditional dishes. Even the little ones immediately found something to their liking and were completely satisfied. A place where you feel at home and will gladly return. Highly recommended for a relaxing evening with the whole family.

The restaurant itself, unfortunately, looked dated, like an old East German restaurant... The food was, unfortunately, abysmal. A tomato salad consisted of a large, thickly sliced ​​tomato with oil and possibly vinegar, as well as a large shred of onion. Apparently, they don't know what "salad" means. My "breaded feta" had a thick, frizzy hair on it, which is why I couldn't eat it. That's unacceptable! There was no apology. The only garnish on the plate was a thick slice of tomato and a small leaf of iceberg lettuce. My colleagues were also presented with carelessly designed plates, and the taste was unfamiliar with Greek flavors. More like ketchup sauce and a thickening sauce... Bifteki was a fatty meatball... The garlic baguette you'd normally find at Greek restaurants wasn't even there... Only dark, toasted slices of bread that tasted like they'd been thrown onto a greasy grill... Tzatziki tasted bland... The only thing that was okay was the lamb. This restaurant should have something like "Revenge of the Restaurant Testers"... Unfortunately, absolutely not recommended. I've never eaten so badly...

After a long time, we gave Afroditi another chance, but unfortunately, we were more than disappointed. At first, you just think time has stood still in this restaurant 20 years ago, which was clearly evident in the way the food is cooked and presented. When you eat, however, it becomes clear that the chef completely lacks passion. Most of the dishes are broken. The salad, apart from the coleslaw, has no dressing or flavor. The sauces were completely ruined by cream and sauce thickener. Otherwise, there's nothing positive to report about the food... the pictures speak for themselves. Unfortunately, the service doesn't convey any sense of Greek hospitality; quite the opposite. All the waiters were wandering around in shabby personal clothes and seemed extremely stressed. This was especially noticeable in their unfriendly and abrupt manner. We won't be coming back here anytime soon. Every other Greek restaurant in the region is worlds better. Of course, we gave the chef appropriate feedback. Unfortunately, we were told that he has no influence over the chef, who is also part boss. At least they accommodated us with the bill.

I haven't eaten this badly in a long time. Salad: tiny portion, ice-cold – pre-made cabbage, 2 leaves of lettuce, a slice of tomato, 1 slice of cucumber – no dressing. Chicken breast with Metaxa sauce: Indefinable floury sauce over the meat, a few chunks of feta-like cheese, white, soft, cold fries on a separate plate. Even with a generous perspective, I can't understand the top ratings. What else do you eat? However, people in that region seem to have a strange understanding of Greek cuisine – because: the place was packed. So the owner is doing everything right! 🥹

We have been going to Afroditi for many years. The owner and staff are super friendly. In summer you can sit wonderfully on the terrace under large umbrellas. The food is very tasty and there is something on the menu to suit every desire. The fact that the restaurant has existed with the same owner for decades and is full every evening speaks for itself. For me the best Greek restaurant in Remscheid, Bergen. The food, so appetizing and really tasty. This is how gyros have to be. The service is friendly and attentive without being intrusive. This is not a restaurant but a snack bar. Ordered four meals for over €80 and everything (except the fries) was of poor quality. Unfortunately I ignored the bad reviews, but everything is true. The hectic boss then did the rest. That was definitely the first and last time

Had dinner here with our children yesterday, December 8th, 2024. The reception was very friendly and warm. The food was excellent and very tasty and the price-performance ratio was unbeatable. Will probably eat there more often. We can only recommend this.

Unser Lieblingsgrieche seit vielen Jahren! Das Essen ist sehr gut, u.a. die besten Lammkoteletts weit und breit, wer Griechenland bereist hat und die griechischen Tavernen liebt, wird sich hier gleich zu Hause fühlen, alle Gerichte sind sehr authentisch. Auch atmosphärisch erinnert vieles an die typische griechische Taverne, obwohl die Gäste hier bergisch sind. Alle werden wie gute Freunde empfangen und behandelt; auch wenn es voll und hektisch wird, werden alle Gäste zügig bedient. Im Sommer verlockt natürlich der große Biergarten, aber auch im Winter gibt es innen genug Platz für alle, auch noch ohne Reservierung. Allerdings sollte man reservieren, da es besonders am Wochenende schnell sehr voll werden kann. Viele Stammgäste trifft man hier immer wieder und das zu recht.

Not recommended, no-go. We ordered plenty, but the main course and the salad were inedible for me. Salad loveless, floating in oil and vinegar. The special plate consisted of far-dry Suvlaki skewers and gyros the size of goulash, hard and dry on the outside, raw in the middle. The Greek meatball was the only thing you could eat from the plate. When we were clearing away the boss asked if it was tasty, I replied no. It was obvious that my plate was still full. He asked why. He couldn't accept the explanation and criticism of the dry suwlaki and the inedible gyros, I got a parade of, he's been doing it for over 40 years, it has to be that way and so on. I explained to him that this doesn't change the fact that the food wasn't good and that I would end the discussion here. When paying, he asked who ate what. I explained to him that I had the special plate, which wasn't good. There's nothing he could do about it, he's been doing it for 43 years, blah blah blah. I then told him that since he has been doing this for so long, he is experienced enough to accept criticism from time to time. The end of the story, I was allowed to pay the full price of almost 20 euros, no apology, no, can I get you something else, nothing. Absolutely unprofessional, aloof, unfriendly. I have to say, I'm a trained chef and I've been to quite a few restaurants, I'm not crazy at all, and I've never written a negative review. But today everything really blew up, I've never experienced that in my life. You don't have to be a trained cook to do this, any good housewife/husband could have done it more lovingly and tastierly.

Unfortunately I'm disappointed because based on the reviews I expected something different. The food came to the table more like a chip shop, the side salad was inedible because it was soaked in vinegar. The food itself is too salty, the rice is sour. The owner is rather unfriendly... The premises are unfriendly. Large rooms lit far too brightly to enjoy a cozy atmosphere. There were no alternatives for vegetarians. There will be no further visit or recommendation. Too bad.

We've been eating there every now and then for almost 40 years, unfortunately the portions are getting smaller and smaller and recently my liver was so stringy that I couldn't eat a delicious meal. This happened about 2-3 years ago. However, nothing was charged for the meal. Now further: the liver was covered above normal with steamed, not fried - as ordered on the menu - onions and underneath it was pre-cut several times, probably to reduce the stringiness, but that didn't work. For me as a guest, it's uncut - let alone chewable. Even though I said that clearly, the whole price was charged. thus : Thanks, no more for now. ps: additionally: The slices of bread beforehand / with gray bread (!) almost like it was steamed, not even crispy.

I had the “cyclops eye” and was very impressed. The pork steak was very tasty and really juicy. The gyros were also rich and tasty. Plus rice, fries and salad at a reasonable price.

We were in this restaurant twice in quick succession with a larger group, the quality of the food varies widely, the "boss" is particularly nervous, while on the first visit to the restaurant the son of the house was able to smooth things over The second visit almost left the restaurant again, the "boss" should remember that he is no longer a boss without guests, but apparently we alone see it that way, because the "booth" was always well attended. We definitely won't be visiting this restaurant again.

Wären zu 6 Personen dort und wollten eine gemischte Platte für 6 Personen. Der Chef hat uns abgeraten da dies zuviel sei und er nix wegschmeißen möchte. Obwohl er mehr Geld damit machen würde. Wir waren gestern zum Mittagessen im Restaurant. Im Biergarten hat man nett gesessen, die Portionen waren groß und die Preise absolut in Ordnung. Das war aber das einzigPositive. Der Gyros war hart und trocken, Bifteki war überzogen mit einer Paprikasosse, was weder gepasst noch geschmeckt hat. Der Grillteller war absolut trocken, haben dann Zaziki nachbestellt, damit man ihn überhaupt essen konnte. Selbst das Bier war nicht kalt. Wir waren das erste Mal dort, wohl aber auch das letzte Mal. Das Restaurant gehört m. E. nach zu den Top-Adressen in Remscheid. Das Ambiente mit Biergarten ist schon einmal sehr einladend (erster Eindruck) Das Servicepersonal zeichnet sich durch aussergewöhnliche freundlichkeit aus. Hier heisst es NICHT: Hilfe, ein Gast, nichts wie weg sondern; Oh wie schön, ein Kunde. Das Essen kam sehr zeitnah und war nicht nur von sehr guter Qualität sondern auch aussergwöhnlich schmackhaft, und damit noch nicht genug: Die Preise waren mehr als nur günstig und angemessen. Hier kommt man als Fremder und geht als Freund.Fazit: Mein neues Lieblingslokal, ich werde es sehr gerne wieder besuchen und auch guten Freunden als Geheimtipp enpfehlen.
