Over the past 20 years, we have enjoyed the hospitality and outstanding cuisine of Mario Gamba and his team on a variety of occasions, or often just for fun. Over all these years, every visit has been a culinary experience. The dishes are modern and contemporary, never adhering to any trends, and Mario Gamba's signature is always evident on the plate. They are small works of art that delight the palate, without any frills that add nothing to the dish. We also love enjoying the lunch menu. Every visit is a surprise as to what the kitchen has cooked up for that day. Dolce Vita is practically on our doorstep. We're already looking forward to our next visit. Die Gerichte sind modern und zeitgemäß, ohne sich irgendeinem Trend anzupassen, und immer ist die Handschrift von Mario Gamba auf dem Teller. Kleine Kunstwerke, die dem Gaumen erfreuen, ohne großen Schnickschnack, der nichts zum Gericht beiträgt. Wir lieben es auch, das Mittagsmenü zu genießen. Sensational food with impeccable service. The price is reasonable. Unfortunately, the ambiance is a bland mix of all sorts and exudes 80s charm. For me, it's out of date, hence one star deducted.

Acquarello is a Munich institution, but lost its Michelin star this year after decades. The exterior facade looks a bit dated, and the awning desperately needs cleaning. I don't need sterile perfection, but cleanliness in every respect. The food was great, harmonious, light, and impeccable. Chef Mario Gamba emphasizes approachable cuisine without artificial exaggeration: lots of vegetables, aromatic plant oils, and impeccable craftsmanship. The whole story is tangible and consistent. The wine pairing, however, was too expensive for the quality. For me, Acquarello is simply a very good restaurant with heart and soul, Michelin Guide or not.

Wir haben im Acquarello meinen Geburtstag gefeiert – und es war ein Traum! Vom ersten Moment an haben wir uns willkommen gefühlt. Der Service war aufmerksam und herzlich, der Chef selbst hat sich um die Gäste gekümmert, und am Ende gab es sogar noch eine kleine Überraschung in Form einer köstlichen Torte. Das Essen war absolut perfekt – von der Vorspeise bis zum Dessert, alles liebevoll angerichtet und geschmacklich ein Erlebnis. Besonders schön: Auch unsere Kinder waren willkommen und wurden perfekt bedient. Sie wurden sogar außerhalb der Karte versorgt und haben sich rundum wohlgefühlt. Wir können einen Besuch im Acquarello wärmstens empfehlen und kommen sicher wieder. Vielen Dank für diesen besonderen Abend!

Phenomenal food, excellent service, in short, simply perfect.

The balance of texture was there, from starter to primi, but the tastes were really not strong. The pasta were impressive and really standing out from other dishes. The Tuna was on the other hand rather disappointing, lacking flavors, sauces. Service was friendly. Wine card was extremely limited compared to typical Michelin restaurants but nevertheless the selection was of very high quality. The overall result was mixed.

Location -Modern, cozy, high-quality, appealing Service -Friendly, discreet, sometimes lacking Italian hospitality and active recommendations Food The welcome from the kitchen was so-so, a dry filled pastry (reminiscent of a pre-baked dish) and the soup (which felt like a standard Thermomix dish)... But thankfully, it improved considerably! On the other hand, the pasta, delicate sauces, asparagus, and salmon were fantastic. However, the morels or the woodruff component in the dessert made it stand out, so: Overall, a good menu, one that's not so easy to find in Italy, with exciting and delicate flavors.

This was a wonderful restaurant. The ambiance, service and food were all excellent. There was a wonderful attention to detail for all three. We ordered a la carte. We had the scallops three ways appetizer, a wonderful pasta with bacon, tomatoes and white tomato foam. Our party had the saddle of lamb and the halibut encrusted with arugula. For dessert we had the strawberry carpaccio and the chocolate torte. Delicious!

I stopped by for lunch during the week without a reservation. There was no outdoor seating due to noisy road construction, but the main indoor dining room was pleasantly quiet and simply furnished. Since the restaurant was almost empty, my server was quick, very attentive and professional. I enjoyed the presentation and taste of the artichoke tortellini and the sous vide salmon. Two earlier courses served on paper doilies reminded me of the 1960s. Maybe the cook still has doilies left over from that time. I have to come back. / I stopped in for a no-reservations, weekday lunch. There was no outside seating due to noisy street construction, but the interior main dining room was pleasantly quiet, with subdued decor. With an almost empty restaurant, my server was quick, very attentive and professional. I enjoyed the presentation and tastes of the artichoke tortellini and the sous-vide salmon. Two earlier courses, presented on top of paper doilies, reminded me of the 1960s. Perhaps the chef has leftover doilies from that era. I shall have to return. 2025 04 02. M1.

Four of us had dinner for our belated 40th birthday. It was Friday evening and we and another group of four were the only guests that evening. Hmm, maybe that should have made you suspicious, or that's what surprised us at a star restaurant. We were warmly welcomed and informed about the menu and that it was possible to swap between à la carte and menu (due to the manageable number of guests). We all took the spring menu and ended up swapping a course. When I read the menu I was wondering where the "Italian" was supposed to be and perhaps I had corresponding expectations (since we had already been to various ☆restaurants, Tantris, dining room...). In short, the menu wasn't right for me and was way too expensive at €169 (5 courses)...first there was sliced ​​ciabatta with olive oil (like any standard Italian restaurant), then there were two amuse gueules (one of them quite 'refined'), but that was where the creativity ended. A much too large cold hollowed out potato was the beginning of the menu and that continued...the chervil cream soup with two well-cooked quail eggs (according to the menu it should have been poached), the pasta dish was very nicely seasoned, the Scottish salmon fillet with a horseradish crust (which wasn't, but a herbed pastry plate, maybe they forgot to gratinate?) was unfortunately neither refined nor of a star for me worthy. If there had been a Michelin tester there that evening, they certainly wouldn't have been blown away. I didn't find the ambience and interior cozy or inviting, rather the 80s chic needed a refresh. I would particularly like to praise the service, there was really nothing to complain about! However, we won't come again.

It's no coincidence that Mario Gamba has had a Michelin star for his Acquarello for 25 years. Without exaggeration, the best food I've eaten in the last 40 years. Better than Schubeck or Winkler.

You immerse yourself in a short vacation as soon as you enter the Acquarello. The ambience, music, the excellent, attentive but not intrusive service and of course the fantastic cuisine are just as perfectly coordinated as the dishes - course for course - are harmoniously seasoned and peppered with surprising details.

Es ist alles perfekt! Das Essen ist ein Hochgenuss. Ein grosses Kompliment an die Küche mit ihren kreativen Ideen das Essen wie in einem Gemälde zu präsentieren. Die Zutaten sind super frisch und nach strengen Kriterien ausgewählt. Das gibt es keinen Kompromiss in der Qualität. Das Personal ist professional und sehr freundlich. Man fühlt sich sehr gut aufgehoben, verwöhnt und relaxed. Wir gehen seit Jahrzehnten ins Aquarello und es ist jedes Mal ein Hochgenuss und unverändert erstklassig. Ein grosses Kompliment an Mario und sein Team.

Ein wunderschöner entspannter Silvestermittag. Wir wurden herzlich empfangen und haben uns sofort wohl gefühlt. Ein aufmerksamer Service, ein tolles Menü und schöne Weine!

A very cozy restaurant with a feel-good character. The service was very courteous and always looked at our table. The food was excellent and the variety of flavors was terrific. We had the 5-course Advent menu. For our guest with a fish intolerance, an alternative without fish was served. Very great service and 100 points for taste and ambience. Thank you!

The restaurant/decor feels a bit dated. The food was alright, but not nearly good enough to justify the price--nearly 300 euros a person, if not more. Raw mashed prawns and a bland potato soup were the start of the meal, neither of which was exactly appetizing. The ravioli and veal medallions tasted good, but overall very simple for the cost. And at the end of our meal, we had to wait 30 minutes because the waiter was talking to another table who seemed to know the owner.

It was our first time in this great restaurant. The food was very tasty, although one or two courses still lacked something extra. The service is very warm and appropriate. The location is lovingly furnished and we had a very comfortable bunk. As in many star restaurants, we noticed the very limited selection of alcoholic aperitifs, but praise for the generous selection of non-alcoholic drinks. All in all, it was a very nice evening and the restaurant can easily be recommended. However, if you're looking for something absolutely extraordinary here, you probably won't get your money's worth. We enjoyed it very much and we will definitely see each other again. Special thanks to the nice team.

Feeling Italian moments is always something sensual. At Acquarello, a gastronomic attraction and top address in the upper-class villa district of Bogenhausen for 25 years, it is not just Munich residents who are very spoiled by “their Italians” who can experience such special moments and enjoy them to the fullest. Mario Gamba's restaurant has been awarded a Michelin star for 21 years. And it's well deserved. A real recommendation.

A beautiful place: calm and intimate. We took the menu: €165 including 5 courses. These are well presented and good. A small reserve for the main course: meat certainly good but close to a stew. This is not what you expect from a star. This menu lacked more noble products such as shellfish or fish. In summary, good but expensive for what is offered.

Das Ambiente ist etwas in die Jahre gekommen, sicherlich lange nichts investiert. Speisekarte extrem klein,Preise sehr ambitioniert. Der Fischgang(Steinbutt) recht langweilig präsentiert, ordentlich im Geschmack, aber sicher nicht über € 60 wert! Die Weinkarte ist für ein Sternelokal ein Witz,da hat jeder ordentliche Stadtteil-Italiener mehr Auswahl. Service ist freundlich und bemüht . Man versteht nicht, dass dieses Restaurant seit Jahren einen Michelin-Stern hat, vielleicht gibt es dafür andere Gründe,die ich nicht kenne.... Wenn man gut und vernünftig essen und einen interessanten Wein trinken will,geht man besser ein paar Meter weiter ins Hippocampus( ist allerdings -wen wunderts?- deutlich besser gebucht als das Acquarello)

On the second day of my culinary week in Munich, it wasn't that easy to find a "starred restaurant" that was open for the lunchtime slot. In the end I found one with the Acquarello. And since there are very few Italian restaurants in Germany that have been awarded the coveted Macaron by the Michelin Guide, I was of course really excited to see what awaited me. The place was recommended to us by our hotel Sofitel and we were put under the impression that this restaurant is full and may don’t accept us then we were ask to rush to it and when we arrived nearly two to three tables are accepted by the tine we arrived up to the time we left. Nevertheless the food was not Italian as they dont serve pasta or salaf even add to this the price is so much high . Bad experience.

What was that?!?!? I've never had such a bad meal in a star restaurant, it's really a shame... 1. As a greeting from the kitchen there was a bread basket with a little olive oil like at any Italian restaurant, no butter or spread. Then came a spoonful of marinated salmon and that was it. No intermediate course or chocolates for dessert, just nothing... 2. You couldn't exchange anything in the menu except for an immense surcharge. Explanation: the portions from the normal menu cannot be reduced - aha? Why? Already packed in the freezer or something? 3. The highly praised food was tasteless apart from the prawn tartare, definitely not worth 165 euros! 4. The cheapest wine started at €60 - you could say Munich prices - but very cheeky compared to other Munich star restaurants 5. The boss/cook dressed in a casual outfit came to the next table where former football celebrities were sitting and then disappeared without saying hello - maybe he should learn how to look after the guests Conclusion: No thanks, never again! I've rarely been so annoyed that I spent money on such a treatment

During a recent dining experience, I was disappointed with the service at the restaurant. The waitstaff’s attitude was not very enthusiastic, and there was a noticeable difference in how different customers were treated. From my observations, there was a significant disparity in service between European and Asian customers. As an Asian customer, I felt the staff was indifferent and neglectful, while other patrons received more attentive service. This unequal treatment was unpleasant, and as a result, I will not consider visiting this restaurant again. I hope the restaurant addresses this issue and provides fair and consistent quality service to all customers.

The absolute best meal I’ve had in Munich, and easily in the top tier of pasta I’ve eaten in a Michelin star restaurant. Exquisite.

Speisekarte mehr als dürftig, nur ein Fleischgericht, ein Fischgericht, zwei Menüs mit höchstpreisiger Weinbegleitung. Preis-Leistungsverhältnis a la carte ungenügend, (kleine Tarte au Citron 21 Euro). Insgesamt mit nur je einem Hauptgang und zwei Desserts, einer Flasche Weißwein knapp 500 Euro. Service allerdings sehr freundlich. Das Restaurant wird dem selbst formulierten Anspruch zumindest am Mittag in keiner Weise gerecht. Da gibt es in München mehr als hundert bessere Alternativen. Schade.

Our visit again was terrific, from the service to the individual courses and the wine! We were particularly impressed by the loup de mer, which was prepared whole under a blanket of salt and filleted at the table! Wir haben hier - anlässlich des Geburtstages meines Mannes - das Frühlingsmenue 2024 genossen. Mein Mann und ich mit Kabeljau, unser Gast mit Lamm als Hauptgang. Jeder Gang war optisch, geschmacklich und handwerklich perfekt, die Kombinationen kreativ und phantasievoll. Obwohl das Essen etwas wärmer hätte sein können, war trotzdem alles perfekt - ganz besonders der sehr aufmerksame und freundliche Service. Vielen Dank für diesen schönen Abend, das hat Freude gemacht. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

It's always a great pleasure to eat with hosts who see standing still as a step backwards.

If you can believe various gastro guides: one of the best Italian restaurants in Germany. And I can understand that to a large extent. But from the beginning: there was surprisingly little going on for a Saturday evening, only 3 other tables were occupied. Normally something like this is always a bit suspicious, but we didn't think it was a big deal. So you can look around at your leisure. What stands out: the wall painting reminds me more of a Greek restaurant than an upscale Italian restaurant, but okay. The service was very nice, courteous and well prepared. Recommendations for the menu and “a la carte” were also suitable. I would have expected the wine list to be a little more exclusive, but there were good recommendations here too. It quickly began with the first greetings from the kitchen: the carrot-ginger soup in particular impressed me with its great consistency. The zucchini flower was good, but could have had a little more “oomph” - either with slightly stronger or spicier spices or other ingredients. The primi was great again: Fagottini with hummus filling. So according to the motto: Levante meets Italy. The taste complemented each other perfectly and the Greek yogurt rounded it off perfectly. Great dish. The corn-fed poularde was also convincing. On the one hand through the mustard sauce, but also through the play with different consistencies and flavors, e.g. through the black walnuts. That was the next successful surprise. Unfortunately, the desserts were a bit flat again; the lemon tart was too soft and too crumbly. The madeleines were good. And yes, the espresso is great. But I would expect that too. All in all, a good address for upscale Italian food.

Das Carpaccio von roten wilden Gambas war ein Geschmackserlebnis, das Tiramisu von der Entenleber ein reiner Genuss. Ebenso hervorragend die Zwischen- und Hauptgänge. Alle Teller waren perfekt angerichtet. Das Restaurant ist unbedingt zu empfehlen.

Getaway to Munich in October and we took the opportunity to go to eat at Acquarello, great service, restaurant that is on the outskirts of the center and is very quiet and excellent food.

Wir waren heute zum ersten Mal vor Ort und begeistert vom liebevollen und witzigen Service sowie der hervorragenden Speisenqualität! Auch die Option zwischen Menü und à la carte ist top. Einzig die Inneneinrichtung hat so gar nicht unseren ästhetischen Geschmack getroffen. Außerdem wäre eine größere Auswahl an alkoholfreien Alternativen wünschenswert. Für ein Sternelokal sehr ungezwungene Stimmung. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und würden jederzeit wiederkommen.

War sicher eines der besten Essen italienischer Küche, ever! Die Küche ist landestypische und zugleich phantasievoll abweichend zugleich aber "umstrapaziert" und ohne "creative" Anwandlungen, alle Details kommen selbstverständlich und ganz natürlich. Eine italienische "Hochküche", wie man sie in Italien kaum findet; entsprechende Ambitionen geraten dort fast immer zu übertrieben und werden dadurch "un-italienisch"!

Vielen, vielen Dank für die immer wieder vorzüglichen Speisen und den hervorragenden Service, den ich als Freund aussergewöhnlicher Küche bei Euch 2-4 mal pro Jahr genießen kann! Was war beim letzten Besuch Ende Dezember am Besten? - war es das Amuse Bouche oder die rote Beete Gnocchi mit Mohn … oder …. oder … auf alle Fälle habe ich das Menu noch erweitert um meinem Gusto Erfüllung zu geben. The food was great. The portion size is perfect for a light dinner to have a great conversation with friend or family. The atmosphere look a bit boring and can use some improvement. Its a place to visit.

Es war wieder ein kulinarisches Erlebnis

Das Restaurant Acquarello Mario Gamba in München Bogenhausen ist wirklich eine lebende Legende. Ich bin sprachlos über die faszinierende Küche, den exzellenten Service und die Hingabe des Inhabers. Die Vitello Tonnato, die ich dort genießen durfte, war das Beste, was ich je probiert habe. Glücklicherweise sind wir Nachbarn, sodass wir definitiv bald wiederkehren werden. Eine herausragende kulinarische Erfahrung, die ich jedem nur empfehlen kann!

Hier ist einfach alles gut, das Ambiente, der Service und vor allem das Essen. Da ist der Stern verdient. Das hat seinen Preis aber wenn es so gut ist ….. zahlt man den doch gern.

The food was impeccable. Beautifully served, surprising - in a nice way - taste combinations, amazing textures. We were just not happy with the service. They was friendly, but it took us significant effort and waiting time to get the waiters to pay attention to us. They weren't even looking at us at all, just chatting with each other. Also, we ordered green tea, which was way too strongly brewed, and the waiter didn't even understand that (we asked for more hot water to even it out). We had a good time, just expected a bit more attentive service.

Ja, was soll man sagen. Anspruch und Wirklichkeit sind leider zweierlei. Essen absolut in Ordnung, Service aber unterirdisch, sowohl bezüglich Freundlichkeit als auch Fachkompetenz. Auf diesem Niveau ist das leider nicht zu entschuldigen. Guter Service ist einfach essentieller Bestandteil eines schönen Abendessens. Wenn so etwas dann von einer pampigen Kellnerin ruiniert wird, kann man niemandem empfehlen, dort Essen zu gehen. Da gibt es in München nunmal zu viel Alternativen.

Zu lange nicht mehr bei Mario Gamba gewesen. Es war gestern Abend nicht fantastisch sondern unfassbar gut. Mit Sicherheit die beste Gazpacho meines Lebens gegessen. Aber alle Gönge waren mega großartig. Das Aquarello ein Münchner Klassiker den man öfter besuchen sollte

Wir waren vor etwa einem Jahr dort, Geburtstag. Wir waren sehr enttäuscht von der recht leblosen Kochkunst, ohne Überraschungen. Und die Preise sind dafür dann doch unangemessen. Es ist mir zudem ein Rätsel, wie das Aquarello Jahr für Jahr einen Stern erhalten kann. Es handelte sich um meinen 4. Besuch dort über die vergangenen 25 Jahre. In Grunde wurde ich jedes Mal enttäuscht. Sehr schade.

Aus unserer Sicht verdient das Aquarello seinen Stern, für das ausgezeichnete Essen, für den Service und das ganze Ambiente. Es war ein wirklich schöner und unvergesslicher Abend und ich freue mich auf den nächsten Besuch.

Vorzüglich gegessen, sehr aufmerksamer Service, gute Beratung durch den Chef. Kalbsbäckchen ein Traum. Sämtliche Gänge vielfältig im Geschmack. Sehr angenehme Atmosphäre. Für einen Montag erstaunlich gut besucht, also bitte reservieren. Gute Weinkarte.

Mario Gamba ist ein Zauberer ! Fantastisches Essen, sehr freundlicher, bemühter Service, schönes Ambiente, am Schluss noch ein Geschenk ...was will man mehr.Dieter Wenn man das Geld hat, unbedingt hin !!

Wir wollten mal wieder zu einen klassischen und sehr guten Italiener gehen und haben uns deshalb für das Aquarello entschieden. Das Ambiente ist schlicht aber schön gehalten. Der Service war hervorragend, auf unsere Sonderwünsche wurde beim Menü eingegangen. Wir wurde bei allen vom freundlichen Personal unterstützt, von der Weinauswahl bis zu den Speisen. Das Essen fanden wir sehr gut und extrem anspruchsvoll Präsentiert. Die sehr guten und frischen Zutaten waren schon außergewöhnlich. Wer auf Pizza und Pasta steht und so richtig satt werden will ist hier aber falsch. Aber wer gute italienische Küche anspruchsvoll interpretiert genießen will, ist hier genau richtig. Das Preis/Leistungsverhältnis fanden wir ok und der Küche angemessen. Wir gehen auf jeden Fall wieder hin.

Ein rundum stimmiges Erlebnis , sehr guter und aufmerksamer Service, die persönlich Begrüßung und das anschließende abfragen ob alles zur Zufriedenheit war, durch den Inhaber, hat was besonderes und da kann sich das ein oder andere Lokal in solch einer Klasse etwas abschauen. Natürlich war das Essen und die Qualität der Ware sehr, sehr gut. Absolut empfehlenswert

Es ist jedes mal ein absolut spitzenmässiges Erlebnis! Daher ist das Acquarello unter allen bisher probierten Sterne-Restaurants (und da waren welche mit mehreren Sternen dabei) mein absoluter Spitzenreiter und mein absolutes Lieblingsrestaurant ! Daher war ich bei den anderen auch nur jeweils ein mal. Das Essen ist geschmacklich, qualitativ und optisch absolut Top. Die geschmacklichen "Wow-Eindücke" sind zahlreich und die visuellen Sinne werden auch durch die ansprechende Kreativität gesättigt. Der sehr sehr gute Service stellt sich auf die Stimmung der Gäste ein und ist z.B. bei einer feierlichen Runde nicht so nüchtern kühl, was für mich auch sehr wichtig ist. Herr Gamba kommt auch öfters am Abend zum Tisch und alle gehen immer auf unsere doch manchmal ungewöhnlichen Menü-Wünsche ein und erfüllen diese. Für mich ist das gesamte Erlebnis (im Vergleich zu den allermeisten Sterne-Restaurants) den Preis absolut wert, somit "preiswert" ! Daher bleibt mir, mangels Kritikpunkten, nur diese Topppppp Bewertung zu vergeben.

A fantastic experience. Got stuck in Munich on a Sunday because of a missed flight connection and tried to make the best of it. Ate alone, and was very jetlagged, but this experience was a beacon through the haze. Ordered a la carte. Fantastic food, especially a carrot foam amuse, duck liver "tiramisu", and a truly stunning potato gnocchi. Solid wine pairings and very attentive service (though it might have helped that I was only 1 of 2 people in the restaurant because I booked a reservation at 18h). Charming decor as well.

Wir hatten einen einzigartigen Abend in diesem tollen Restaurant. Von Anfang bis Ende war alles super. Ein tolles Personal und tolle Geschmacksexplosionen, einfach perfekt. Wir können es definitiv empfehlen!
