Whenever I'm in Hilden, I like to stop here. Good food, and the price is reasonable. For dessert, I highly recommend the ice cream—not Mövenpick, but with real whipped cream. To top it all off, the staff is very friendly and attentive. Highly recommended.

We were there on Christmas Day, and we were completely overwhelmed. I barely had time to look at the menu and was rushed to order our meals. After the food arrived (I had a mixed grill, which might have been enough for a child), the waiter came by to ask if we wanted to order anything else, as he needed to collect payment. At 7:15 pm, we had to leave because the table was reserved for the next guests. It was awful; instead of a cozy family gathering, everything had to be rushed. Never again, sorry.

The atmosphere is lovely, but unfortunately, two of the staff members are extremely rude and unfriendly. We go there every month, but this is the second time a waiter has been truly rude and impolite, so we'll be looking for somewhere else if this kind of behavior is tolerated.

Getting a good schnitzel here seems to be a matter of luck, especially on schnitzel day. Some of the staff are very unfriendly, and in my experience, the restaurant is definitely not child-friendly.

Unfortunately, my previous impression remains unchanged. First, my food was forgotten. The staff didn't notice, but after we complained, they apologized and hurried to bring the food. So much so that it wasn't fully cooked. Today, I also received a foil-wrapped potato; one half was cooked through, the other half squeaked when I chewed it, it was so raw. The quark was carelessly slapped on top, so at first you only had quark, and then just potato. Absolutely unacceptable: at least two of the chicken pieces weren't cooked through. The plate went back half-full, and the staff didn't care that I wasn't satisfied with the food; they didn't even ask. Therefore, still: NOT recommended. Review based on previous visits: Beautifully situated on the edge of the Hilden city forest, the restaurant promises much but ultimately disappoints. Even with just a few guests, the interior is incredibly noisy. As soon as it gets busier, conversation becomes nearly impossible. It doesn't help that the staff is often quite rough with the dishes and cutlery; at times, it feels like a rowdy bachelor party. Unfortunately, the food doesn't make up for the lack of quality. The baked potato was okay, but the turkey schnitzel was tough, with the edges already dried out and hard, and completely tasteless, despite being smothered in a pool of melted herb butter. There was no salad at all. The restaurant had already failed to impress on a previous visit some time ago, and this second chance unfortunately confirmed the poor first impression. The only bright spot was the attentive and friendly staff. Not recommended.

Very cozy, plentiful, delicious food that's perfect for sharing between two people. Very attentive staff. We always enjoy going there.

We were there on December 26th with a group of eight. The restaurant was very busy. The service was excellent. Our orders arrived very quickly. Despite being extremely busy, the staff were very friendly. Our food was delicious! 👍

This restaurant wasn't a highlight for me personally. The food was okay (mixed grill), but nothing special or outstanding. It was alright. The portions were definitely large and good value for the price. The waiters were very friendly and quick to take our orders. Unfortunately, the parking situation wasn't great, but that wasn't the restaurant's fault, but rather due to some of the selfish customers. The ambiance was okay for this time of year. It was very crowded, and unfortunately, because of the constant flow of customers (the door was always opening and closing), there was a draft at our table. All in all, it was okay. But as I said, it didn't exactly blow me away.

The selection of dishes is good, and the portions are enough to satisfy anyone. The schnitzel dishes are especially fantastic. Incredibly large portions and very tasty. Plus, the schnitzel is homemade, not from a pre-made meal. Highly recommended!

The food was generally average. However, the ice cream was very creamy and flavorful. The service was very attentive, especially at the beginning. The tables and chairs were quite close together; perhaps this was due to the holidays.

It used to be better. We were there with 8 people. The pizza arrived 10 minutes before the other orders, and the last order came 5 minutes later, after everyone else had finished eating. I wanted a burger to go at 9:15 pm, but it wasn't available because the kitchen was closed, even though it said everywhere that it was open until 9:30 pm.

Very clean restaurant, the food is great... I think the pizza I had was one of the best I've ever eaten... The restrooms are very clean, the staff very friendly and professional. We were a bit lucky with the parking. All in all, we'd gladly come back.

Very tasty food, superb Jäger schnitzel, friendly staff

There were two of us. One of us ordered a pizza, the other a pasta dish. The pizza arrived several minutes before the pasta, so I had to keep staring hungrily at the other person's plate the whole time. This could have been done much better!

Basic quality. Made for mass production. I ordered a mushroom schnitzel with fries. The schnitzel looked very large at first glance, but it was more than 50% greasy breading. The fries were soggy. The mayonnaise I ordered was more like a remoulade. We tried again. This time the service was even worse. This time I ordered a mixed grill. The fries were okay. I had to ask for mayonnaise three times. The bacon was inedible. The sausage was limp. The meat was just okay. Definitely my last visit.

Update: Today we saw an employee behind the ice cream counter repeatedly tasting different flavors with the same spoon. It was disgusting. We won't be going there again. Unfriendly service, run-down atmosphere. I think the beer mats have been used by the 12th generation. The high chairs for children are filthy. Coke Zero tastes like syrup diluted with medium water. The food portions are large, but that doesn't make up for the poor quality. It's been going downhill for years. 12 Apostel is only surviving on its good reputation from better times.

Today I was quite disappointed. I ordered a BBQ schnitzel with fried onions, bacon, and BBQ sauce. The schnitzel and bacon were barely lukewarm. The schnitzel itself tasted okay. The BBQ sauce was awful. It was slimy and tasted like some kind of ready-made sauce that had just been heated up. The fried onions were also from a can. I really wish they had been homemade – it would have tasted much better. Only the price was great.

I've been a regular at this restaurant for many years, which makes my last visit all the more disappointing. I was charged €10.50 for a portion of potato dippers with sour cream. (According to the menu, a portion without dip costs €4.50.) The server explained that he had told me beforehand that the sour cream wasn't a dip, but would be served in a small bowl. However, I was never informed that the sour cream was being charged as a complete appetizer for €6. I find this completely unreasonable and lacking in transparency. In addition, the server was very unfriendly and seemed annoyed when I politely inquired about the charge. Instead of trying to find a solution, they simply insisted on their "right." After many years as a customer, this treatment has left me utterly disillusioned. I've decided: I will not be returning.

Good, but nothing special. Too loud due to its size, as it's always busy. Prices are on the high side. Table reservations are accepted, but not really honored. My conclusion: never again.

Delicious food, organized events, and days when some dishes are cheaper, or you can eat as much as you want for one price. For example, on Thursdays you can eat as much ribs as you want, and on Tuesdays, schnitzels are cheaper. A place worth recommending.

The worst restaurant we've ever been to! The staff were not friendly at all, no free water, and the food was mediocre. They tried to force us to leave a tip, and when we said no, they took our credit card by force, paid by themselves, and threw us out. Absolutely terrible — do NOT go there!

Great atmosphere; it really makes you forget the size of the place. The food is very tasty and leaves nothing to be desired in terms of portion size and price. An ice cream or cake for dessert is also highly recommended. It's just as good as what you'd find in an ice cream parlor. The service staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. In the summer, you should definitely check out the outdoor seating area, located in the middle of the woods by a lake. A truly lovely restaurant.

We visited the "12 Apostel" restaurant in Hilden and were absolutely delighted! The food was excellent, offering something to suit every taste in their traditional German cuisine. The ice cream cake is particularly recommended – a real highlight to finish the meal. The waiter was very friendly, and even though the restaurant was full, we received attentive and prompt service. We often visit the "12 Apostles." We also enjoy sitting in the garden when the weather is nice. The value for money is excellent. The staff are always friendly to us and our dogs. We always enjoy going there.

Very tasty food and a great location. Unfortunately, we waited almost 30 minutes for our drinks even though we were almost the only customers. Nevertheless, I will come back and give the place another chance.

We went there spontaneously on Saturday. We had two salmon burgers 😒, one cevapcici, a regular burger, and a 1-meter crepe for dessert. The salmon burgers made their presence known at home. The restaurant is a mass-production restaurant. The server was attentive.

The biggest disappointment for me in 39 years. We had a table for 8pm and when we sat down without being given a menu, let alone asked for drinks, we were told please make your decision quickly, the kitchen closes at 10pm, then out of 8 people 4 were still eating at 9.20pm and they started clearing away and made us feel like we were leaving in a hurry!!!! No dessert, no more drinks, nothing!!

The ideal meeting place for friends from the Ruhr area or the Rhineland. The service isn't always friendly, but it was on my last visit, and I was very pleased. Keep it up! The food is consistently delicious, and the ambiance, of course, is unique, with its terrace and lake.

We spontaneously stopped by for dinner yesterday; it was quite busy. We received a friendly welcome at the entrance and were shown to our tables. The first server was quick to order our drinks, which arrived very quickly. The menu is well-structured, so we opted for the children's schnitzel, a pasta dish, and a paprika schnitzel. Despite the large number of customers, the food arrived surprisingly quickly. The quality was good, and the portion sizes were also very good. All in all, there was nothing to complain about. Rather, praise goes to the kitchen and the service staff. You did a great job, and we'd be happy to come back.

I ended up in Hilden for a training course. I ended up eating here by chance. Excellent quality and great prices. I paid only €50 for a steak and Jägerschnitzel with side dishes and four drinks. The staff are incredibly friendly, and the location is fantastic.

The pizza was huge and tasted quite good. Some of the shrimp's intestines needed to be removed, which made it smell a bit musty, and the crust was left out. Extra toppings weren't available.

A very nice restaurant, but unfortunately, the service was very inattentive. We waited 20 minutes to pay, weren't even asked if everything was OK, were without drinks for a long time because ours were empty and no one asked if we were, and we also sat for a long time with our empty plates. My partner and I both had diarrhea and aches after the visit. A real shame.

After being very upset and disappointed with a larger group four years ago, the four of us went back yesterday, and everything was just like it used to be: great service, a lovely atmosphere, and no long waits. The only thing that unfortunately is still not possible is serving pancakes warm/hot. Just like last time, three pancakes arrived lukewarm at best and were completely cold minutes later. The schnitzel arrived five minutes later and was piping hot, a huge portion, and very tasty! For dessert, we had a 1m crêpe with the delicious homemade ice cream, highly recommended!

Delicious pizza ate, but also other dishes very tasty

We ordered fish. It was partially raw.

Large, beautiful beer garden, delicious food. But the service was completely uninviting. We received a very rude and unfriendly welcome and were immediately told to order quickly because the kitchen was about to close. According to the menu, the kitchen was open for over an hour. Occupied tables were cleared. Stupid remarks like "should we sleep here or something?" were heard every second. It's a shame. We had a great spot with a view of the small lake and wanted to have a nice family evening. On top of that, my son was insulted by a waiter. It's a shame.

The atmosphere was great, the food was ok but the service was a scandal, we hadn't even sat down at 7.20pm when the waiter, a waiter who has been there for years, immediately said to us, order quickly, the kitchen is closing soon! The menu is open until 8.30pm!!!!! Then the same old comment again and again, are we supposed to sleep here or what should the waiter do!! Totally annoyed, unbelievably bad for a man with that experience, completely wrong, never experienced anything like it!! 😮 Unfortunately, because the location is great, the food is ok too, but the service is terrible, even if that probably doesn't bother anyone!! Just wanted to get that off my chest!

We've been here many times and always enjoy returning. The waitstaff is mostly young students, and we really like that. Everything is relaxed and friendly with them, whereas older waitstaff often seem a bit hectic. Drinks arrive quickly, and the food is served promptly. The goose was incredibly delicious, the pizza simply amazing, and the salads are always fresh and crisp. The desserts are also a highlight; everything from cake to crème brûlée was top-notch. Sometimes you wait a few minutes to get a seat, but it's definitely worth it. Whether in the beer garden in summer or in the cozy interior in winter, the 12 Apostel is worth a visit any time of year.

The food is good and reasonably priced. However, the light-colored outdoor seating cushions are incredibly dirty, which can really put you off your appetite. The menus are also mostly sticky and uninviting.

We arrived at the restaurant shortly after 9 p.m., even though it's officially open until 10:30 p.m. Instead of serving us as expected, we were rudely turned away with the explanation that the kitchen was already closed. For a restaurant that advertises these opening hours, this is absolutely disappointing and disrespectful to its guests. Anyone who advertises that they're open until 10:30 p.m. should also serve food until then—anything else is misleading. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it.

Wonderful atmosphere with good food

It used to be a really nice place about 10 years ago. Now (2025) it's not so nice anymore. The pizzas we had weren't well-topped. The shrimp on the pizza were cold, probably because they were carelessly sprinkled on after the pizza had been baked. The pizzas were only lightly cooked, but some were burnt on the edges. The service was rather inattentive, hectic, and perhaps over-serviced. The beer mats were dirty from being overused. The outdoor area is now rather unkempt. I wouldn't recommend it anymore.

The worst thing I've ever eaten. The food was served after 2 minutes, the fries were soggy, and the Wiener Schnitzel had been sitting under the heat lamp for hours. To say it tasted bad would be an exaggeration. The second meal arrived 20 minutes later. Instead of a meal, they should have served something decent in terms of quality. When we asked if we would have liked to eat together, the waiter's original answer was, "Then they'll have to order the same thing." Unbelievable. What a shame about the beautiful garden.

I'd like to review the food. Unfortunately, you can't get a seat here even if you have a reservation. We've never experienced worse planning. The line of waiting guests kept getting longer and longer, and the staff was completely overwhelmed. If you're going to offer reservations, you should also make sure that guests get a seat. This just makes it seem like you're just trying to fill the place up without caring about the customers. In any case, we won't be back.

We ate there on Schnitzel Tuesday on August 12th. Unfortunately, the schnitzels weren't good; they were either ready-made schnitzels or old, reheated ones. The side dishes were good, but the schnitzel itself was very disappointing.
