The two of us recently had dinner at the Bangkok restaurant in Ahrensburg and would like to describe our experiences. --- Order and service We ordered 2x Som Tam (papaya salad) and 2x Gai Pad Krapao. There was a brief misunderstanding during the order, but this was resolved quickly and friendly. The salad was served as a starter. The service was polite and tried hard, which is a positive thing. --- Evaluation of the dishes 1. Som Tam (papaya salad) Unfortunately the Som Tam was a disappointment: Taste and ingredients: The salad left a lot to be desired both in terms of taste and preparation. Although one could guess in which direction it should go, the result was neither authentic nor convincing. Problem with shrimp: The dried shrimp made the salad smell unusually strong of parmesan, which was irritating. Missing chilies: An essential ingredient, the chilies, was completely missing, meaning the salad lost its typical taste. Preparation: Instead of the traditional preparation, in which the ingredients are mashed to incorporate the flavors into the papaya, the salad seemed like an ordinary, carelessly mixed salad. Conclusion: The Som Tam was neither authentic nor tasty. Personally, I didn't like it. --- 2. Gai Pad Krapao Unfortunately, the dish was also disappointing, although edible: Taste: Although it didn't taste bad, it had nothing to do with an authentic Gai Pad Krapao. Difference from the original: Gai Pad Krapao traditionally consists of minced meat, Thai basil and other typical ingredients. Instead we received a stir-fry with chicken and vegetables - more of a vegetable stir-fry than the dish we ordered. Missing chilies: Here too, the chilies, which are essential for authenticity, were missing. Rice: The rice was well prepared and the only thing that could be described as authentic in its simplicity. Conclusion: The dish neither met the description on the menu nor the expectations of authentic Thai cuisine. --- Overall experience Authenticity: Unfortunately, the dishes were not authentic, which is disappointing for a restaurant that claims to be Thai cuisine. Value for money: For a total price of €60.10, the quality of the food did not meet expectations. Service and ambience: The service was friendly and the rooms seemed cozy. Better lighting and small renovations could further improve the ambience. --- Suggestions for improvement 1. Research: The restaurant could delve more deeply into the traditional preparation of dishes and use authentic recipes. 2. Chilis: The use of chilies should be reconsidered as they are an essential part of Thai cuisine. --- About myself I am a native of Thailand and recently spent over a month in Thailand where I had the opportunity to enjoy authentic Thai cuisine. With this background, I judge the courts critically but fairly. --- Summary: Unfortunately the experience was disappointing. The food was neither authentic nor commensurate with the price. However, I would like to emphasize that the service was friendly and the restaurant definitely has potential to improve. I hope my review is helpful and wish the restaurant all the best for the future.
