Exceptionally good home-cooked food with a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, the whole experience suffers immensely from the service, who only understand half of what's being said.

Rustic restaurant in the heart of Göttingen. The food was good and plentiful. The service was on point and always present. At least that day the chairs didn't get cold. There was quite a lot going on. I can recommend it without reservation. Bringing dogs is also no problem.

Large portions. The schnitzels are mainly made from breading. The meat itself is thin like a slice of sausage. Absolutely not recommended.

Price-performance absolutely bomb. Portions just right. A lot of heart when garnishing and the XXL schnitzel is a challenge for everyone. The food is absolutely delicious, the service is PERFECT and overall 100% recommended. I only didn't give it one star because the restaurant was quite cramped for me if you had to sit inside due to the weather.

May 2, 2025 We were back in town after about 7 years and reserved a table here. The service has deteriorated significantly. You have to order quickly, otherwise you will be asked to finally order every minute. The dishes are prepared with little culinary skill. All breaded schnitzels go into the deep fryer before the plates are brought to the guest. The menu includes a salad plate with the dishes. A small bowl with a handful of greens is brought. There should be white bread with the shrimp pan. It was probably over, fried potatoes were brought. I don't think it's suitable. Even though people were still eating at the table, the service specialist started clearing away. That's not possible and reflects the professional competence of the restaurant. We won't be coming back to this restaurant. No recommendations. 2018 Huge selection of schnitzel dishes. Super tasty. Service very attentive.

The food was very tasty, the schnitzels are oversized, especially for the cheap price. We sat very, very close together in a larger group (12 people).

The kitchen should make fried noodles instead. I don't understand all the positive reviews. We were there Friday evening and it was just bad! Portion size is not equally good. We thought it was terrible! Even the one star here is still too much!

A nice place in Göttingen to unwind in the evening. I can absolutely recommend the grill plate. And the staff is super friendly and very service oriented. When I come back to town, I will stop there again.

Enjoyed a schnitzel meal with a side of saurkraut. Charming outdoor seating with the natural beauty of this town surrounding us. I would return to this town again and eat here again.

You can eat there. It tasted good. But now this is coming. You could count the fries and they were very dark. Mayo came from a large bottle, which I'm not familiar with. The sauce for my (very large schnitzel) was very little, but could be ordered again upon request. I think this would have worked with the fries too. Still a star deducted. I'm deducting another star because we had to wait a little long for our food and also for payment. It wasn't (absolutely) full around 3:30 p.m. I would also like to point out that you shouldn't be sensitive to fried potatoes soaked in fat. The dark fries also indicate that there may be old fryer oil. We are full. I wouldn't go there a second time.

My husband and I dined there a few years ago. Everything was ok with my food, my husband ordered Maultaschen and they were fried so greasy that he had to throw up later.

The price-performance ratio is right and everyone is very nice and friendly. If you enjoy a schnitzel the size of a car tire, this is the place for you. But it's too crowded, too loud and too hectic. For a nice, cozy get-together I would go somewhere else but lots of people had fun.

We were there on a Wednesday lunchtime and it was packed: 4 adults and 2 children. Despite the full restaurant, the service was super friendly and responded well to the children's special requests. Food is absolutely bad. Fried potatoes weren't cooked through and were floating soggy in fat. Goulash tasted like dishwashing liquid and was more like a soup and the spaetzle was partly raw. Eating is not recommended here. Give it a wide berth!

Very rustic atmosphere, nice staff and a very large selection on the menu, the price is simply top for the portions and the taste is good. Very crowded even during the week, the seating was a bit cramped for my taste but otherwise it was fine. Small warning, the schnitzels XXL are really XXL, so order them if you are very hungry or want to take something with you 😅

Really a wonderful old restaurant in the city center of Göttingen, where you can eat really good schnitzel and other home cooking. The schnitzel is really nice and big and tastes great too. The price-performance ratio is exceptional here. €14.90 for such a large, high quality schnitzel! I can only recommend Zum Szültenbürger and can confidently say that I will come back.

Nice restaurant, the only thing that's stupid is that I arrived for 3 1/2 hours and not a single syllable was said that you could only stay for 2 1/2 hours, you were simply attacked, you could have said that when you made the reservation in writing. Food top prices top.

I would give even more stars if that were possible. The atmosphere is totally quaint and rustic. The food was simply a success. Totally delicious and a normal portion is more than enough. Of course I had to try the XXL schnitzel and of course I didn't make it. The staff is absolutely attentive and always friendly. It can still be so crowded there. At the end there was a schnapps and I was really happy for my child, who got a lollipop. It's definitely not the last time I've been there!!!!!

ATTENTION: RESERVATIONS WILL BE CANCELED WITHOUT NOTIFICATION We had reserved a table for two over the phone, which the employee confirmed on the phone. We were there this evening and had to leave disappointed because apparently there is no reservation for just two people. If everything is full/reserved, I understand that they couldn't give us any more space. However, the staff took no responsibility for the error and instead treated us as if we had simply made the reservation up. This doesn't seem to be an isolated incident if you look at the reviews, so it seems to be intentional. Luckily we quickly found a place somewhere else. But after this poor organization and unfriendly treatment, we definitely won't be coming back to Szültenburger.

We spent our Christmas party there. The tables were so narrow that we barely had room to eat in peace. The restaurant was obviously overbooked and therefore had the character of a train station. There was a hectic atmosphere. The waiting guests were queuing at the door, so we had to leave the restaurant after 2 hours. It would have been completely okay if we had been able to enjoy the food for the 2 hours in a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. The dining room was beautifully decorated for Christmas, the price-performance ratio was okay, there was just a lack of space to enjoy the meal in peace. That's why only 2 stars for the ambience, because it's too hectic. The service was very committed and super friendly, it was almost impossible for them to do the job. Not recommended for a Christmas party as it was overbooked.

Friends had reserved a table for 6 p.m. yesterday, and we were seated diagonally opposite in a coffee shop at 6:30 p.m. It was nothing like we had imagined the evening would be like. In addition, the food was served on plates and brought across the street to the coffee shop. We then got up to ask for a table again in the actual restaurant and were supposed to come back in an hour. Unfortunately, the boss then turned us away in a very unfriendly manner. So, despite a reservation, it wasn't a cozy evening at Szültenbürger. Never again !!!!

We had reserved a table for goose dinner with a lady this evening, I called again immediately afterwards and asked for a table downstairs because I was severely disabled Sent for 2 people. When I arrived my sister was standing outside and said that wasn't true, there was nothing reserved and the boss didn't reserve for two people. She was assured several times that this was not true, so we lied. You could also have said that they are sorry and something went wrong.

Great spot for authentic German food in the heart of Göttingen city center. It gets quite busy at dinner time, and we had to wait about 10 minutes for a table, but it was worth it. The interior is cozy, and they offer an English menu, which was very helpful. Portions are incredibly generous—one dish could easily last for two meals! Highly recommend for anyone looking for delicious food and a warm atmosphere.

Totally cramped restaurant in a historic building.

Szültenbürger is almost mandatory on the annual friend visit to Göttingen. It's not easy to get a table in the run-up to Christmas and you don't want to know how Dimi manages to offer such large and delicious schnitzels for €15 and the Christmas goose is also great. The rush speaks for itself. I'd like it to be a bit more hearty and louder, but we'll be back

We were there on a Thursday at the end of November. Without reservation, no chance. Very crowded and loud, but great service, we got our food after what felt like 10 minutes, which was really good and inexpensive. I can only recommend it, maybe not in the run-up to Christmas, otherwise we'll definitely come back
