The Stefans, Michaels, and Dirks sit in the crowded dining room and are served schnitzel, beer, and other meat dishes in copious quantities. Does a home-style schnitzel require a local chef? Apparently not. Otherwise, the chefs at the Szülzenbürger restaurant seem to be a bit too generous with the traditional virtues of "fatty" and "salty." Even the vegetables are dripping with fat. Despite that (or perhaps because of that?), it's delicious. And because Michel likes to eat fatty, salty, and a lot, and at a reasonable price, the restaurant is also busy (to the point of being overcrowded). That service and hygiene are somewhat lacking in this overcrowded restaurant... never mind. The main thing is a lot and a reasonable price.

Edit 5 Sept 2025: careful of over-charge. I downgraded the service to 1 star as they trick you on the charge. I reviewed the receipt the next day, and it appears that the restaurant overcharged the number of beers we drank. We ordered two dishes and two pints of beer. They charged four beers. You must check receipts here. You dont speak german then they trick you in this restaurant. Be very vigilant!!! Family of three visit for a pint of beer and schnitzel. A great atmosphere and friendly staff. Food is tasty and salty enough for pints of beer. Price is reasonable and portions are hearty. They provided Yager Meister type shots as service at the end. Awesome! I would visit again!

Enjoyed a schnitzel meal with a side of saurkraut. Charming outdoor seating with the natural beauty of this town surrounding us. I would return to this town again and eat here again.

The menu is brimming with meat dishes—schnitzel in every imaginable variation, steaks, pork medallions. Everything is delicious, except for the fried potatoes, which are simply hot potato slices...there's room for improvement there. What I particularly like is that the prices are fair; you don't feel like you're being ripped off or taken advantage of, so you'll gladly return and even recommend the place. The food is excellent and plentiful. I was a bit overwhelmed by the menu because there's so much to choose from. They also offer salad with your meal at no extra charge. Highly recommended.

First things first: We were seated on the upper floor. Food: Good schnitzel. Croquettes: soft, lifeless, from a packet. Cucumber salad: probably not homemade. White sauce: definitely not homemade. Caution: The Gordon Bleue served has nothing to do with a Cordon Bleue. A clean menu would have helped make the letters easier to read in the dim lighting. Atmosphere: Too loud. Too cramped. Too dirty, which has nothing to do with coziness or a rustic ambiance: the table we were assigned was littered with food scraps, the cheap paper coasters were covered in grease, and we had to ask for someone to wipe the table ourselves. The menu was greasy and crumpled, which led me to misread the name of one of the dishes and therefore think I was getting a Cordon Bleue. The Gordon Bleue served, however, bore no resemblance to what I had imagined. What a pity. A real plus point for the service: they offered a discount and a shot of schnapps.

I always love coming here. The service is fast, friendly, and always courteous—you just feel welcome. The schnitzels are excellent: crispy, tender, and served in generous portions. The wide selection, which even includes poultry, is particularly nice. The value for money matches this, which is truly excellent.

Wednesday night was crowded but got a table for 2 right away. The rinderroulade (#39) and the cream gravy schnitzel (#55), VERY DELICIOUS, good portions! Love the old German ambiance. The service was attentive. So happy we came here!

A restaurant focused on home-style cooking with a large selection of schnitzels. The portions are generous and filling. The side salad unfortunately lacks any dressing, such as yogurt, and the quantity could be larger and more varied. The wait was reasonable despite all tables inside and outside being fully booked. A salad plate to help pass the time would have been appreciated. The beer was okay, but could have been a bit colder. The house croquettes were something different, but obviously made in an air fryer and therefore unfortunately not as crispy on the outside. Overall, though, it was satisfactory. I would gladly return. The prices are reasonable.

The schnitzel was oversized, but there was definitely too much béchamel sauce on the vegetables, and the schnitzel was drenched in fat. Unfortunately, my companion also returned the entire Maultaschen portion because they were all swimming in fat. The side salad was very meager and tasteless. No idea why the place was packed... You'll never see us there again!!!!

I was there with my mother today. The waitress didn't really understand us at first and spoke very poor German, but otherwise she was nice. The food took a relatively long time, but it was completely inedible! My Maultaschen were literally swimming in oil. They could have been fried, but the man there said they were just boiled... Aha! My mother's schnitzel was huge, but also overly greasy and completely inedible. All in all, apart from the oil, the food was okay. 😬 By the way, the side dish was frozen.

Don't understand how this can be so good for so many?? A tasteless snitchel that looks like toast.. ham sauce and cheese were just baked into the snitchel the potatoes were dry.. You don't even deserve a star. Shame on you.

I made a reservation for two people. I had to wait over 15 minutes outside the door to get a table at a cocktail bar across the street with electronic music. I left right away. It's a good thing I reserved in advance xD

We've been coming here for years. The ambiance and the food are truly impressive—especially, but not exclusively, the spare ribs and the holiday specials. What stands out, however, is the portion size (especially given the price), which would certainly feed two people. The only reason we lose one star is because the service staff could be a bit friendlier and less lackadaisical. Nevertheless, this restaurant is a must-visit for everyone.

No, my wife had fillet with chanterelles and spaetzle. The fillet was overcooked, the chanterelles were too salty, and the spaetzle were mushy! I had the gourmet pan with fillet, vegetables, and fried potatoes. Some of the fried potatoes were still raw, and the fillet was also overcooked! I do not recommend this restaurant!

We recently had lunch here. It was our first time here. The food was good and the portions were large.

Absolutely disgusting. I was really disappointed. I got my food, but it was the wrong one. I returned it and got a new one, although I had seen it came from a few tables away because someone there had gotten my food. Of course, after I tried it, it was already cold. When I tried it, I was told it couldn't be cold, it was completely fresh. Absolutely outrageous. The taste wasn't great either, and the fries tasted of old grease. The waitresses were completely overwhelmed and incompetent. Sometimes you couldn't even understand what you were saying, or they didn't understand you. The restrooms are a complete disaster: dirty, filthy, and clogged. I'll never go to this place again!

Huge and delicious food in the city center of Göttingen.

Today I went there as my 4th time. Unfortunately the chicken schnitzel was very very thick and in the middle it wasn't cooked properly! So I asked the waitress to take care of it. But after 30 min nothing! I asked her again and she had totally forgotten about it! I waited again and nothing! Asked another waiter and he was clueless as the other one! Overall after 45 min waiting nothing happened! So disappointed by the service!

Since Göttingen's city center doesn't exactly boast a particularly large number of dining options, and the food was okay, it's a good place to eat. However, on the day of our visit, the service was overwhelmed. It was the first time I had to wait in line to pay the bill after a quarter of an hour without a waiter coming by. That really left a lasting impression.

It's more of a mass-production operation, and the schnitzels were very mediocre. The fact that so many people supposedly like it... scares me a bit. It's definitely not possible to have a comfortable and delicious meal here.

July 12, 2025 First impression (snapshot): Nothing German, mostly in Asian hands. The food was nice, but a very brief interlude. They advertised non-alcoholic wheat beer on tap – but it wasn't available today, or at least not in general. I can't say what the food was like; I never got around to it. It was very disappointing.

Pleasant atmosphere, very friendly service, who never loses track of what's going on, even when the place is full. Delicious food at very fair prices and with really generous portions. Even when all the tables are full, you're served quickly. Considering the size of the schnitzels, it's almost crazy that you can order them in XXL... If you're still hungry and have plenty of the delicious food left over, you'll automatically be offered a box to take home.

Good value for money, large portion. But unfortunately, the food was very blandly seasoned. Yes, I did add more seasoning, but something was still missing. Since the portion size was very large, we wanted to take EVERYTHING with us: the side dish, salad, vegetables, and even the sauce. We specifically stated that we wanted everything (we pay for everything, after all), but unfortunately, the above-mentioned items weren't included.

It's a nice restaurant in the old town of Göttingen. If you order schnitzel, it comes with vegetables and potatoes, and the portion is so big that two people can order one and still have some leftover.

No, you won't find nouvelle cuisine with a lot of frills here. Instead, you will find decent German cuisine that will fill you up and at reasonable prices. The service is truly sensational, fast, and incredibly attentive. And the kitchen is just as impressive. The organization is absolutely exceptional, and the (fresh) food is on the table in no time. It brings tears to your eyes when you think back to so many other establishments. Even the skyrocketing beer prices are still within reason here.

Home-style cooking with huge portions at reasonable prices. Therefore, it's always very busy, not to say overcrowded: The tables are close together, resulting in a very cramped atmosphere. The service and owner are friendly and prompt. Not all of the waiters are fluent in German, so you might occasionally have to put up with incorrect orders. Due to the limited space, it's not particularly wheelchair accessible in my opinion. Due to the location in the pedestrian zone, you have to walk to parking spaces in the adjacent streets and parking garages. Our meal included appetizers and dessert, which is why our total per-person spending was higher.

Had a great experience here. Despite the packed house, the service was very fast and the food above par. At the end they provided a free half shot of schnapps as a digestif. Would go back.

We had a reservation for 8:15 p.m., but still had to wait outside until 8:30 p.m. because the restaurant was completely overcrowded. The attempt to simply seat us next to a large group of men was particularly unfortunate – as a group of two (a man and a woman), you're usually looking for a bit of privacy. In general, the restaurant was so full that it was almost impossible to have a conversation at the table. Next to us, music was even playing loudly on cell phones without the staff intervening. That was a real shame. Despite everything: The food was excellent – ​​large portions, very tasty, and served surprisingly quickly. The drinks also arrived within minutes, and the service staff were friendly and attentive. The bottom line: the food was truly top-notch, but the extreme overbooking and the atmosphere unfortunately detracted from the evening's potential.

A must-visit. I wouldn't go here for the fried potatoes, but I would for the super ribs. Finally, in years, I devoured a really large portion of fresh ribs that fell off the bone by themselves. Went there especially from Osterode and can only say that there is no better restaurant with this price in the entire region. In the best city center location in Göttingen you get very good portions at relatively good prices. The boss is also very, very nice and attentive.
