Delicious! Huge portions; if you don't get full here, it's your own fault! The schnitzel was fresh, homemade, and delicious. The only slight drawback was the fried potatoes. They could be better. We will definitely come back.

We unfortunately cannot understand the many positive reviews. The portions were large, but the food didn't taste good. The meat was clearly deep-fried, and the mushroom sauce was from a packet. The restaurant wasn't very clean, and neither were the restrooms. We were very disappointed.

Unfortunately, not very good. A piece of a Tetra Pak carton in the salad is probably to be expected. The ribs were rather undercooked and not tender enough. Portion sizes were adequate. The schnitzel was very large. A quick look into the kitchen revealed a bit of disarray.

While we were upstairs in the restaurant, I saw a mouse running under a neighboring table. I pointed this out to the staff. The only response was a brief "I'm sorry."

The roast goose leg from the seasonal menu was delicious, the dumplings were okay, but unfortunately not homemade. Overall, the restaurant has a rustic feel and is very cozy. The prices are reasonable, and we left satisfied. 👍🏻

It was fantastic...the owner goes above and beyond to accommodate everyone (even if there's a short wait, it's worth it). We hadn't booked on a Tuesday evening, but we were still warmly welcomed (we noticed that immediately). The food arrived quickly and was of very high quality. Edit 12 Dec 2025: The owner tried to take a legal action to remove my review. Google sided with my review and keep the edit in order to keep the user experience optimal for travellers. So please be vigilant that this business will sneak items onto your bill. Edit 5 Sept 2025: careful of over-charge. I downgraded the service to 1 star as they trick you on the charge. I reviewed the receipt the next day, and it appears that the restaurant overcharged the number of beers we drank. We ordered two dishes and two pints of beer. They charged four beers. You must check receipts here. You dont speak german then they trick you in this restaurant. Be very vigilant!!! Family of three visit for a pint of beer and schnitzel. A great atmosphere and friendly staff. Food is tasty and salty enough for pints of beer. Price is reasonable and portions are hearty. They provided Yager Meister type shots as service at the end. Awesome! I would visit again!

Visiting Göttingen from Berlin on November 7th, I felt like I was back in Berlin. The streets, restaurants, and shops were packed. The Festival of Lights in Göttingen even affected my chosen restaurant, resulting in a 40-minute wait despite our reservation. While the food was delicious and we were in good hands, the owner recognized the situation and did his best to make us feel welcome. Thank you so much, and we'll definitely be back.

We always enjoy going to Szülte. The prices are absolutely reasonable, and the portions are generous; no one goes hungry. They even have special menus for seniors and children, which are available at affordable prices. Plus, the service is always quick and friendly.

We were there as a family, and our food was forgotten three times. After waiting for 1.5 hours, we finally got it when we asked directly in the kitchen. But the restaurant responded superbly, and the solution means we'll definitely be back! And it was delicious, too.

Great cozy restaurant - rustic and beautiful

What a shame! Unfortunately, the restaurant has changed hands. We always enjoyed coming here, but now it's not as convincing. The portions are huge, but the seasoning is unfortunately very bland. The staff are mostly unintelligible, and you have to repeat every question because the language barrier is so great. They're singing loudly in a different language in the kitchen. When it came to paying, we weren't asked whether we ate together or separately; the bill was simply placed on the table. It's a real shame; you won't be happy with your high expectations here, unfortunately.

I really enjoy visiting the Szültenbürger restaurant. The food here is simply honest! The portions are large, the quality is good, and the prices are fair. I also have to say that the way the schnitzels are prepared is excellent. Large, thin, and crispy... That's how it should be. The only downside: It's always full because it's so good.

I can't understand the predominantly positive reviews. Except for the classic "Wiener-style" schnitzel, the food was a huge disappointment – ​​the chicken cordon bleu was inedible (see picture). The only positive thing to mention is the friendly service.

Some people I asked around on the street recommended it to me. And it was the best thing I found in this beautiful city.

Hopefully, this lovely restaurant doesn't go under and the good, traditional food doesn't lose its soul. The food was okay. I didn't really understand the service. The dish I wanted was unfortunately no longer available, which I only found out 15 minutes after ordering. It's a shame. They reacted well, though, and got another salad (though not the freshest, unfortunately). Then they gave me the wrong bill, and I was asked to pay the amount verbally without an invoice. Fingers crossed that things will improve and that this is an exception. It's only a shame as a visitor/guest of Göttingen.

Our food arrived an hour late. The orders of people who came after us were delivered before ours. I can understand the workload, but at the very least, an apology could have been offered. Instead, we were just told, “We’re busy.” Even though the food was tasty, my rating is 0.

The Stefans, Michaels, and Dirks sit in the crowded dining room and are served schnitzel, beer, and other meat dishes in copious quantities. Does a home-style schnitzel require a local chef? Apparently not. Otherwise, the chefs at the Szülzenbürger restaurant seem to be a bit too generous with the traditional virtues of "fatty" and "salty." Even the vegetables are dripping with fat. Despite that (or perhaps because of that?), it's delicious. And because Michel likes to eat fatty, salty, and a lot, and at a reasonable price, the restaurant is also busy (to the point of being overcrowded). That service and hygiene are somewhat lacking in this overcrowded restaurant... never mind. The main thing is a lot and a reasonable price.

The menu is brimming with meat dishes—schnitzel in every imaginable variation, steaks, pork medallions. Everything is delicious, except for the fried potatoes, which are simply hot potato slices...there's room for improvement there. What I particularly like is that the prices are fair; you don't feel like you're being ripped off or taken advantage of, so you'll gladly return and even recommend the place. The food is excellent and plentiful. I was a bit overwhelmed by the menu because there's so much to choose from. They also offer salad with your meal at no extra charge. Highly recommended.

First things first: We were seated on the upper floor. Food: Good schnitzel. Croquettes: soft, lifeless, from a packet. Cucumber salad: probably not homemade. White sauce: definitely not homemade. Caution: The Gordon Bleue served has nothing to do with a Cordon Bleue. A clean menu would have helped make the letters easier to read in the dim lighting. Atmosphere: Too loud. Too cramped. Too dirty, which has nothing to do with coziness or a rustic ambiance: the table we were assigned was littered with food scraps, the cheap paper coasters were covered in grease, and we had to ask for someone to wipe the table ourselves. The menu was greasy and crumpled, which led me to misread the name of one of the dishes and therefore think I was getting a Cordon Bleue. The Gordon Bleue served, however, bore no resemblance to what I had imagined. What a pity. A real plus point for the service: they offered a discount and a shot of schnapps.

The schnitzel was oversized, but there was definitely too much béchamel sauce on the vegetables, and the schnitzel was drenched in fat. Unfortunately, my companion also returned the entire Maultaschen portion because they were all swimming in fat. The side salad was very meager and tasteless. No idea why the place was packed... You'll never see us there again!!!!

I was there with my mother today. The waitress didn't really understand us at first and spoke very poor German, but otherwise she was nice. The food took a relatively long time, but it was completely inedible! My Maultaschen were literally swimming in oil. They could have been fried, but the man there said they were just boiled... Aha! My mother's schnitzel was huge, but also overly greasy and completely inedible. All in all, apart from the oil, the food was okay. 😬 By the way, the side dish was frozen.

The side salad unfortunately lacks any dressing, such as yogurt, and the quantity could be larger and more varied. The wait was reasonable despite all tables inside and outside being fully booked. A salad plate to help pass the time would have been appreciated. The beer was okay, but could have been a bit colder. The house croquettes were something different, but obviously made in an air fryer and therefore unfortunately not as crispy on the outside. Overall, though, it was satisfactory. I would gladly return. The prices are reasonable.

We've been coming here for years. The ambiance and the food are truly impressive—especially, but not exclusively, the spare ribs and the holiday specials. What stands out, however, is the portion size (especially given the price), which would certainly feed two people. The only reason we lose one star is because the service staff could be a bit friendlier and less lackadaisical. Nevertheless, this restaurant is a must-visit for everyone.

No, my wife had fillet with chanterelles and spaetzle. The fillet was overcooked, the chanterelles were too salty, and the spaetzle were mushy! I had the gourmet pan with fillet, vegetables, and fried potatoes. Some of the fried potatoes were still raw, and the fillet was also overcooked! I do not recommend this restaurant!

We recently had lunch here. It was our first time here. The food was good and the portions were large.

Absolutely disgusting. I was really disappointed. I got my food, but it was the wrong one. I returned it and got a new one, although I had seen it came from a few tables away because someone there had gotten my food. Of course, after I tried it, it was already cold. When I tried it, I was told it couldn't be cold, it was completely fresh. Absolutely outrageous. The taste wasn't great either, and the fries tasted of old grease. The waitresses were completely overwhelmed and incompetent. Sometimes you couldn't even understand what you were saying, or they didn't understand you. The restrooms are a complete disaster: dirty, filthy, and clogged. I'll never go to this place again!
