Following a tip from a local, we headed to the Green Kakadu, right next to the City Theater, for a final drink. The terrace offers a great view of the square. You should expect a bit of a wait, but otherwise, the Kakadu is a great place to relax.

Excellent location, right next to the Mainz State Theater. You can sit outside or inside. The service is excellent, the food and drinks are varied, and the value is good. Another positive aspect is that the Green Kakadu caters to allergy sufferers. They make every effort to accommodate requests. It's one of the favorite places for a relaxing time. Your physical well-being is also taken care of.

Great all around! Interesting menu with a great mix of rustic and home-style dishes to light summer cuisine. There's something for everyone. And it was delicious, too. Very friendly, approachable service with short, personal conversations without being intrusive. An incredibly good wine list rounds out the offerings. A great way to get in the mood for the evening at the opera directly across the street.

To be honest, I've never understood the bad reviews for this restaurant. You might have a bad day or a bad employee. But we've been there at least a dozen times now, and I can't report a complete failure. On the contrary, they offer a changing lunch menu and a varied seasonal menu. Everything is of decent quality and the service is helpful. A solid place by Mainz standards.

A pretty good restaurant, but unfortunately the food is rather run-of-the-mill... We ordered asparagus dishes, and the hollandaise sauce seemed more like it came from a bag or carton... My Wiener Schnitzel was okay, but it also tasted more like frozen... Of course, the food was okay, but for the price, I expect better cooking skills.

Wir waren am Samstagabend zum Essen (mit Reservierung). Der Empfang war sehr freundlich, der Service ebenfalls. Das Lokal war nach unserer Ankunft recht schnell besetzt - das Theater war beendet. Als das Lokal voll war, war etwas Hektik, noch nicht unangenehm, bei den Kellnern zu verzeichnen. Das Essen war in der Tat zu loben. Vier unterschiedliche Gerichte kamen in angemessener Zeit. Praktisch zeitgleich. Der Geschmack war in allen Fällen ohne fehl und Tadel. Die Anzahl der offenen Rotweine empfand ich leider etwas dürftig. Nur einen Spätburgunder! Einen ´Gemischter Satz´ und ein ´Verschnitt´ stand auf der Karte. Verärgert waren wir allerdings über das Wasser. Es wurde einmal Mineralwasser ohne,- und einmal mit Kohlensäure bestellt. Serviert wurden dagegen offenbar Leitungswasser in eigen Flaschen des Lokals. Das geht nicht, zum aufgerufenen Preis dann schon gar nicht! Unschön: Warum neben der Behindertentoilette die Tür zur Küche mittels eines Sackes offengehalten wurde, entzieht sich meiner Kenntnis. Alles in allem ein schöner Abend mit einem uns rundherum schmeckenden Essens. Gemessen am etwas stark abgewirtschafteten Vorgängerlokal ´HDW´, haben auch die Räumlichkeiten sehr gewonnen.

Very nice service and a modern restaurant in a central location but still a bit off the street. Unfortunately, the Wiener Schnitzel was not freshly breaded, so there was no flavoring or crispiness. The Rheinhessen Vitello was interesting: boiled veal with green sauce and egg. Unfortunately, what wasn't on the menu was that the meat was served on a huge mountain of lettuce. The tonka bean crème brûlée with vanilla ice cream was unbeatably good.

Dinner for two. We had goat's cheese and boiled beef beforehand and, for the main course, the Wienerschnitzel and salad with tofu with a wine recommended by the service. Apart from the fact that only filtered water from the tap is offered, which annoyed me, we experienced very good service that responded to our needs, which made us feel very comfortable! The goat cheese and recommended wine were excellent. All in all, good cuisine and excellent service. Highly recommended!

Es war wieder einmal sehr schön im Grünen Kakadu. Das Essen war in gewohnter Weise sehr gut und die freundlichen Mitarbeiter: innen im Service sorgten für eine schöne Einstimmung auf unseren Theaterbesuch.

Wurden sehr freundlich empfangen und zum Tisch gebracht. Der Service war gut und freundlich. Gute und hochpreisige Speise und Getränkekarte !! Doch die Präsentation von Gans und Rotwein entspricht in keiner Weise den Preisen und wahrscheinlich auch nicht den eigenen Ansprüchen !! Rotwein wurde in einem mit gutem Willen Weißweinglas (Wasserglas) serviert. OK kann ja mal passieren doch auf Nachfrage kam die Antwort sie hätten keine Rotweingläser sondern nur ein Sorte 😳😳😳!!!! Das essen (Gans) wurde auf einem zu kleinen Teller serviert (gibt wahrscheinlich nur eine Sorte) Brust,Keule,Knödel.Maronen, Rotkraut,Soße, etwas Soße wurde extra gereicht die aber mehr an Pudding erinnerte als an Soße,geschmacklich war es in Ordnung mehr nicht . Die Präsentation habe ich in Kantinen schon wesentlich besser gesehen , das Rotkraut einfach extra servieren wäre eine Möglichkeit.Man sagt so schön das Auge ist mit hier hätte man besser die Augen zu gemacht , denn essen soll auch Spaß machen und sollte kein Kampf sein das nichts auf dem Tisch landet. Das Essen meiner Frau (Fisch) war geschmacklich sehr gut und optisch sehr schön angerichtet (geht doch) , die Beilagenänderung war kein Problem.

Im Grünen Kakadu bezahlt man für das Essen vielleicht ein paar Euro mehr, bekommt dafür aber eine feine Auswahl an Speisen, die nicht nur hübsch garniert serviert werden, sondern auch durchweg köstlich sind. Freunde des guten Weins kommen hier ebenfalls auf ihre Kosten - und das zu durchaus moderaten Preisen.

Ordered 2 glasses of champagne yesterday at 7:45 p.m., they didn't come until 8:15 p.m., went to the counter and asked, then the sek came at 8:20 p.m. Tortellini small portion ordered at 8 p.m., this arrived at 8:30 p.m. The food was, like the first time, lukewarm at best, prices were high with poor service, that's annoying, I won't go there again.

Wir durften eine schöne Zeit bei gutem Service und Essen verbringen. Kritik bei meinem Esse war der lauwarme Stampf und das Gemüse, Fleisch war gut. Die Portionen waren ausreichend bis reichlich. Wie es in einem größeren Lokal halt so ist, die Geräuschkulisse steigt mit Anzahl der Personen. Wenn dann noch Gäste mit Kindern die ihre Schreiübungen machen dürfen da sind wird es leider ungemütlich. Das Übel sind nicht die Kinder sondern die Eltern die das Geplärr zulassen. Kinder dürfen spielen ,lachen, weinen alles was Kinder auszeichnet, aber gelangweiltes Geschrei ist einfach für die anderen Gäste belästigend bis eine Zumutung. Auch hier möchte ich dem ausgezeichneten Servicepersonal keine Kritik geben, was sollen sie tun? Trotzdem waren wir mit einem weinenden Auge sehr zufrieden im "grünen Kakadu"

We had breakfast and it was very tasty. What I have to complain about is that there were only 3 rolls for two people. So we would have had to share one thing. And just a little butter. We were able to reorder, but given the price of €18 I can at least expect two rolls for each. Otherwise the service was nice and it tasted good too.

Mitten in der Stadt befindet sich dieses Restaurant, welches zum Mainzer Staatstheater gehört. Schön, dass es durchgehend geöffnet ist. Wir werden sehr freundlich begrüßt und zum Tisch begleitet. Der Hund bekommt seine Schüssel Wasser. Wir wählen von der saisonalen Karte Kürbisravioli und Rote Beet Gnocchi. Dazu Beilagensalate. Erfreulich, dass es einige schöne fleischlose Gerichte gibt. Wir sind erfreut über den Service, die Qualität der Speisen und das schöne Ambiente mit dezenter Hintergrundmusik.

In der normalen Speisekarte wurden meine Sonderwünsche berücksichtigt. Der Kartoffel stampft wurde mit laktosefreie Milch für mich extra zubereitet.

Very nice location next to the Mainz Theater with a large terrace. Very courteous service that is always present but doesn't bother you. You can treat yourself to a great selection of food and drinks in the slightly higher category. Parking garages available in the immediate vicinity.

After the theater visit we went to the green Kakadu. The extremely cozy restaurant, right next to the State Theater, is the perfect place for a post-performance wine or a delicious dinner. We had the asparagus cream soup, the Wiener schnitzel and the sausage salad. Everything was super delicious! In addition, a very attentive service with wonderful wine advice. Der Kellner war ziemlich gestresst, was er uns auch direkt spüren ließ. Die Kollegin hatte es aber durch ihre freundliche Art wieder rausgeholt. Trotz Stress! Der hintere Bereich ist angenehmer zum sitzen… weil etwas ruhiger. Das ganze Ambiente ist sehr nett. Das Essen war sehr gut und auch die Weine waren gut. Würden auf jedenfall wieder kommen.

Da das Wetter sehr schön war , haben wir die Möglichkeit genutzt und im Außenbereich Platz genommen. Der empfohlene Sekt als Aperitif war toll.

Wir hatten in größerer Familienrunde einen sehr gelungenen Abend, überaus freundlicher Service und sehr gutes Essen zu einem angemessenen Preis.

The menu reads promising and varied, but unfortunately at least the vegetarian dish wasn't particularly good. It consisted of a very floury baked potato with a tiny dollop of quark, which was very tasty but not nearly enough for the huge potato. Even the manageable side salad was no longer able to add value to the dry potato. It's a shame, because with more quark and a higher quality potato it would have been very tasty! The ambience with the green moss wall and the private rooms, on the other hand, is very successful and cozy.

Die zum gebuchten Tisch dazugehörige Anmerkung wurde in keinster Weise beachtet/angesprochen, was direkt einen Minuspunkt einfährt. Ambiente optisch ok, stellenweise abgewohnt; das Design teils lieblos, kalt und nicht zu Ende durchdacht. Lichttechnisch ist es stellenweise einfach zu dunkel! Mit voller werdendem Restaurant wirklich schrecklich laut, sodass eine gepflegte Unterhaltung unmöglich ist. Die Wartezeit bis zur Bereitstellung der Speisekarte und der darauffolgenden Bestellannahme war unzumutbar lang. Das Essen hingegen kam dann in Blitzgeschwindigkeit auf den Tisch, was auf „fertige“ Speisen schließen lässt. Geschmacklich ok, „fertig“ halt, ohne großen Anspruch, was der Großhandel halt so hergibt, Durchschnittsküche für die gedacht-gehobene Mittelschicht, überschaubare Portionsgröße, wodurch ein Dessert die nächste (gewollte?) Handlung war. Es irren viele Servicekräfte, teils hektisch, überfordert oder einfach nur „wichtig-tuend“ herum, aber keiner ist erkennbar für bestimmte Bereiche zuständig, noch haben sie Augen für das Wesentliche im Service. Beispiele: leere Gläser, keine Nachfrage, ob noch etwas gewünscht ist, leere Teller stehen ewig auf div. Tischen, werden gesehen, aber nich abgeräumt und die Dessertkarte angeboten, zu viel war auf Nachfrage bei uns und an anderen Tischen zu beobachten. Wieso muss der Kunde dem Service hinterherlaufen?? Hier läuft‘s nicht dem verkauften Image entsprechend. Die Wartezeit bis zur Rechnung (nur vom Tablet vorgelesen!) war erneut unzumutbar lang und erst auf mehrfache (!) Nachfrage erhaltbar. Der erste Test im Grünen Kakadu bleibt der letzte. Gebucht war der Tisch vor einem Besuch des Staatstheaters, hierzu war es ausreichend, letztendlich war die Gesamterfahrung aber nicht zufriedenstellend, nicht professionell und als Einklang zu einem schönen Abend definitiv nicht entspannt genug. Dem Verlauf der negativen Bewertungen nach scheint man keine Verbesserungsambitionen zu haben. Wir empfehlen es nicht weiter. MfG

Qualität des Essens entspricht nicht mehr dem Preisniveau. Nettes Ambiente und nettes Personal; war nicht der erste Besuch, dieses Mal ausgerechnet mit Gästen - der Qualitätsabfall ist bedauerlich.
