Insgesamt ein sehr gemütliches, ansprechendes Lokal. Gemischtes Publikum, von jung bis gesetzter. Macht das Lokal sympathisch. Das Hirschschnitzel super. Eine Portion für den großen Hunger...den hatten wir auch an diesem Abend. Perfekt. Die Bedienung ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Kommen sehr gerne wieder.

The restaurant “Zum Grünen Gaul” impresses with its varied, traditional German cuisine, which is interpreted in a modern way. The dishes are delicious and there is a nice selection of wines and beers - there is little to complain about in terms of cuisine. 3.5 out of 5. Unfortunately, there is a significant deduction for handling reservations. You are only allowed to stay for 2 hours, which is unusual for a restaurant of this class. It becomes particularly annoying when you are offered dessert shortly before the end, but you can't even really enjoy it because you are asked to vacate the table twice because it is reserved for someone else. For this type of time pressure, a fast food concept might be more appropriate. After all, culinary delights depend on a relaxed atmosphere, and that's what's missing here.

Perfectly happy! The food tasted excellent. Selection of dishes is manageable but fine, but super tasty. That's exactly how it should be! The service was really very welcoming and friendly. Above all, very attentive. Of course the price here is higher for the food, but the quality and taste are more than delicious! We'd love to come back, keep it up!

A top restaurant near the Bochum Schauspielhaus. Very good food, small menu (but something for every taste), fast and very friendly service (even though the restaurant was fully booked) - we will definitely be back. Parking is possible on the shoulder or in the parking garage at the Bermuda Triangle (5 minutes walk away).

Actually a nice location, but the number of vegetarian/vegan dishes is very limited! It's a real shame, in a district like Ehrenfeld I expect a better vegetarian/vegan selection of dishes. Not recommended for vegetarians and vegans.

Enttäuschender Besuch. Unsere "Hauptspeisen" waren Sparmenues in lächerlich kleinem Umfang zu gesalzenen Preisen, von denen niemand satt werden konnte im Vergleich zu ähnlichen Restaurants. Als Bierempehlung nannte man uns lediglich Fiege, anstatt sich als Servicekraft die Mühe zu geben, weitere Sorten zu erwähnen. Pfeffer- und Salzmühle stellte man uns auf die Fensterbank. Dass der Geräuschpegel zu hoch und die direkte Beleuchtung störend waren sowie die Hocker unkomfortabel, anstatt bequem auf einem Stuhl zu sitzen, werten wir jetzt mal nicht. Wir würden dieses Restaurant nicht mehr besuchen.

Easy to find. Wheelchair accessible. We made a reservation for 10 people two days before and it was no problem. Drinks was served quickly after arrival. Starters were served in a timely manner and there was a pleasant break between starter and main course. The food was great, all of the meals were tasty. I can recommend the tartar as a starter. Wine was poured by the waiter into our glasses during the meals and breaks. FYI be aware that their opening hours a bit unusual so make sure to check this. Overall highly recommended.

Es ist in Ordnung, dass die Tische nach 2 Stunden erneut reserviert werden. Aber wir konnten nicht mal in Ruhe unser Essen komplett aufessen. Dann wurden wir an die Bar gestellt , und das nur für 20 Minuten. Und unser initialer Tisch war immer noch frei, obwohl es uns gesagt wurde, dass die Leute schon gewartet haben. Man bezahlt 60€ pro Person und wird wie bei Mac Donalds behandelt. Die Küche was allerdings exceptional!

Sehr freundliche Bedienung. Die Speisekarte bietet ein gutes Angebot für Vegetarier, aber auch andere Gerichte mit Fleisch oder Fisch sind recht kreativ. Das Ambiete ist rustikal, aber gemütlich. Wir werden wiederkommen.

Obwohl ich in der Nähe wohne, war das mein erster Besuch im Grünen Gaul. Sowohl Service wie auch Essen (Roulade mit getrüffeltem Wirsing und Kartoffelstampf) waren hervorragend. Im Vergleich zu anderen Restaurants, die ähnlich bodenständige Küche in „einfacherer Version“ anbieten, stimmte auch das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Gern wieder!

There were seven of us here and we were all completely satisfied. The map is relatively small. Whether vegan, vegetarian or with meat - every dish was special and very tasty. The service was also very good! A clear recommendation!

What can I say? So if I were to only rate the food, I would probably get 3-4 stars. We had the tartare and the ox shreds. It tasted good, but it doesn't blow your mind and the price is already high. Now we come to the bad part. First of all, I would like to defend the waiter who served us. The person had nothing to do with what followed and was very attentive. Unfortunately we sat directly at the counter/ordering terminal. There was actually a constant argument/discussion about the mistakes that had been made in the restaurant over the last few days. At times there were actually 4 employees standing there and loudly discussing missing receipts and a shortfall in the cash register (it was €27!). I have rarely experienced something so unprofessional and it ruined our evening. Well, there's nothing you can do. The store had some potential, but not for us anymore.

Der Maultaschen-Burger war sehr lecker und etwas was ich so noch nicht gegessen habe. Absolute Empfehlung!

Da aufgrund des Wetters unsere Vorabbuchung im Außenbereich nicht möglich war, haben wir im Restaurant einen Tisch zugewiesen bekommen. Wir waren vier Personen und leider haben wir nur ein sehr beengten Hochtisch direkt neben der Tür bekommen. Zudem hat man uns gleich beim Eintritt in das Restaurant mitgeteilt, dass wir diesen Tisch auch lediglich für 2 Stunden nutzen können. Wie wir beim Verlassen des Restaurants nach 2 Std bemerkten, gab es im hinteren Bereich des Restaurants noch diverse freie Tische, welche auch nicht reserviert waren. Warum wir nicht dort ein besseren Tisch bekommen haben, blieb unbeantwortet. Leider stockte auch anfangs des Service sehr, besserte sich aber im Laufe des Abends. Wir vier waren leider nicht zufrieden und werden wohl auch nicht wiederkommen.

Essen war lecker, ABER Bratkartoffeln aus der Tüte gehen gar nicht! Dann lieber weglassen und z. B. Kartoffeltaler machen oder ähnliches.

Waren am vergangenen Wochenende vor dem Besuch des Musiksommers hier mit Freunden essen. Alles perfekt und die Bedienung äußerst freundlich. Danach konnten wir gestärkt in den Trubelk starten.

We were invited to a private party on Saturday. Very nice restaurant, great location "on the corner", nice terrace, cool drinks and delicious food. The entire team deserves special mention! The employees were all very attentive, competent, friendly, helpful and quick. Gluten-free was possible here without any problems, even in consultation with the chef. Very nice restaurant and great service. As a guest, I notice that a lot of love was put into the furnishings and renovation. The portion of the main course (kohlrabi schnitzel) was a bit too small for me. Next time I would choose an appetizer with it. But the taste is uniquely good.

A very large wine list, great, rather upscale cuisine with perfect portion sizes and very good taste. Competent and nice service. The menu changes regularly, with a classic meat focus but still with vegetarian and even vegan options. Portion sizes can sometimes be chosen by yourself (small/starter or large/main course). The ambience is beautiful and extraordinary. Reservations can be easily made via OpenTable, payment can be made in cash as well as with EC or credit card. In summary, in my opinion one of the best restaurants in the region.

Every property owner in Ehrenfeld should pay Mr. Rüger an extra commission. The restaurant makes a significant contribution to the improvement of the Ehrenfeld district.
