ZEN Restaurant & Bar in Bonn

—-Wouldn’t order sushi there.—- Was there on Saturday around 3 p.m. I ordered salmon avocado and tuna avocado inside out. Tuna wasn't of good quality, but what was worse was that the sushi was completely covered in artificial roe. Had to laboriously remove everything before I could eat it. Unfortunately I was blinded by the good reviews. It may be that people who don't eat a lot of sushi think it's good, but if you have any idea, you shouldn't order sushi there. Please send your chefs to a proper sushi workshop.

Food was good, nice sushi, big portion for the lunch menu, however, when going to pay, everything under 30euro is cash only. This is 2024! I am not carrying cash. Had to go to the bank next door and be charged 5€ to take out cash to pay. I‘ll not come back again.

I ordered a chicken teriyaki. Not recommended without love and taste. That was the last time

The sushi is highly recommended, high quality and not overpriced and the staff are very friendly! In addition, the ambience is appealing and we found it particularly pleasant that guests were able to take a look into the kitchen.

We recently had dinner there with four people. The tables are very large and have benches. There are cozier options BUT it fits perfectly with the charm and style of the restaurant. The food was great, really tasty, definitely recommended. We mainly ate sushi and the awesome coconut cream soup with chicken. The service was quick and extremely friendly. We are already looking forward to the next visit.

Excellent compared to the price

The food was delicious. Both the starter and the dessert. The service was also very good and clearly friendly! I would deduct a very small point. I didn't like the music that much. It was quite loud and didn't fit the ambience. Otherwise, always happy. ☺️

Both the sushi and sashimi were very good, great presentation, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. The cocktails were also very tasty and beautifully presented. There is a large selection of dishes and we were very satisfied.

I visited this sushi bar in August, and it was a fantastic experience! The atmosphere was cozy, with a beautiful interior design. The staff were friendly and spoke English. The sushi was incredibly delicious. I can’t wait to come back for another visit! You can adjust it if you'd like more details added!

The service was friendly and the place doesn't have much character but is stylish. I ordered sushi to take away, but when I unpacked it I couldn't believe my eyes. Most of the makis were open on one side and the fish-rice ratio was really zero for many parts. Totally thick, tough chunks of fish. I've had better rice and it wasn't all that cheap. I could have done it better myself. Well, I take it with humor. Quote from a friend: “Was the sushi chef drunk?” hahaha. It's a shame I only saw the whole thing at home. Don't know if there will be another one anytime soon...

I was just here at 4:47 p.m. and have 1 mango mint ordered as a drink……1⭐️ 1 Edamame………3 ⭐️ 1 Canh Chua …….1 ⭐️ 1 24 mini sushi 🍣 rolls ordered 1⭐️ So the mango mint drink is very very sweet and the smell and taste were drowned out by the mint. Edamame is the same as everywhere else, so it's nothing special Canh chua is a Vietnamese national dish and completely misses the taste as well as the appearance (cannot be classified) what it is!!! The 24 mini sushi 🍣 rolls are just filling but no recognizable taste Good service and a good location or decorations with dry ice are not enough; the food and drinks must impress the customer with their quality and taste. Except for the edamame, I always left some left over and even filled the drink. For the menu card, I strongly recommend photos so that customers know what the food looks like!

It's the best sushi I've eaten in Bonn. The portions are good and the taste the yummy! I'm giving the service 3 stars because we had to wait a lot to get our plates, while others who arrived later were served first.

It was one of my favorite restaurants in Bonn and was really good value for money. Unfortunately, prices have increased incredibly. 20€ for a main course, which is not particularly large, and almost 20€ for a roll are simply too expensive. €7.9 for a portion of edamame is a disgrace. The food is delicious, but the prices are not worth it! A real shame!

The food is really tasty and it's worth going there. BUT! The price is far too high and unreasonable. The service clearly needs to be worked on - the waiters walk past you without checking to see if the customer needs anything else and in a restaurant that is not full you have to wait 20 minutes for the bill or generally be noticed until you can place the order Not be!

I was there recently with a friend. Overall, this restaurant is unfortunately just average for me. The service was OK, with a tendency to be unkind and a bit clumsy at times. We had ordered cocktails and one of the drinks was spilled upon delivery. That's not nice, especially given the prices. The glass also stuck to it when you touched it. No apology. The mojito we ordered only has something to do with the classic mixed drink in terms of taste. No whole ice cubes, but limes in a glass. Something like that leaves me speechless. Food was OK, tried to achieve a visual improvement with schishi. Unfortunately it was nothing more and nothing less. The restaurant wasn't completely full, but some of the empty tables took a while to clear away the used dishes. Some of the staff are intensively involved with each other and their own smartphones, while paying attention to the guests. The menus leave an unsightly impression as they look quite worn out. In this respect, I am still very comfortable with my average rating. For me there is no further visit here.

We ordered lunch, one dish didn't arrive until half an hour later and the second didn't arrive until it was ready. Restaurant was only 50% full when we arrived. Very disappointed with service

A stylishly decorated restaurant with really great staff and very fresh and excellent food. Here you are treated like a regular on your first visit and from the second you already know the name. The food is always prepared fresh and of the highest quality, and the fish in the display case catches your eye. The soups and meat dishes are also great. In summer, good air conditioning in the interior ensures very pleasant temperatures, and you can also sit outside. Prices are absolutely reasonable and delicious wines are also available. The central location on Suttnerplatz ensures easy accessibility. We always look forward to coming back! At the moment there are also excellent Christmas menus, these are also highly recommended!!

Very tasty food and good service. The two of us shared the appetizer platter and the mochi ice cream for a little afternoon snack. Very nicely presented and very tasty. The restaurant is nicely designed, but the long benches are not comfortable to sit or sit down. Due to the location it is quite loud.

Really really good and tasty restaurant.  I actually only came with my family because we were celebrating a birthday. I left the restaurant as a sushi lover. Really only recommended. Staff also very friendly. The atmosphere is also very pleasant.

Frankly, I just didn't like the curry mango. There was nothing special about it. But the food was objectively well done and I appreciate the service and the very nice interior design.

We had dinner with around 20 people after our civil wedding and were well served. There was even a bit of decoration put up specifically for the occasion. And the location is also very beautiful. We were accommodated in a slightly separated area so that we were among ourselves. The food was fantastic as always. Every guest raved about it. Thank you for the great service and the great food!

Wow. Sushi was A1. Fresh, delicious and beautifully prepared - top recommendation: Kama Sutra plate. Service was courteous and nice. The atmosphere is very stylish and modern.

Despite the fact that the restaurant is on a large main street, you can eat both inside and outside. The service is friendly and quick and the food is simply wonderful. You might pay a little bit more than in other restaurants. But the food is definitely worth the price. It's super fresh, beautifully prepared and tastes extremely good too. I can only recommend this restaurant.

The Zen Sushi Restaurant in Bonn offers a great sushi selection. The ingredients are fresh and the dishes are creatively presented. The atmosphere is modern and stylish, ideal for a relaxed evening. The staff is very nice and accommodating, which makes the experience even more pleasant. Prices are in the mid to high range, but are totally justified given the quality of the food and service. In short: If you are looking for the best sushi in Bonn, you should definitely try Zen Sushi. It is worth it!

Inauthentic Japanese restaurant. Unacceptable wait to be served (the order was lost in the 15 meters that separated us from the kitchen). Inability to pay by American Express because it would cut into their margin (sic). Inability to pay by credit card for an amount less than 50 euros. Catering is part of the SERVICES sector and it would be good for this establishment to ask itself some questions.

Restaurant japonais inauthentique. Attente inacceptable pour être servi (la commande s'était perdue sur les 15 mètres qui nous séparait de la cuisine). Impossibilité de payer par American Express car cela rognerait leur marge (sic). Impossibilité de payer par carte bancaire pour un montant inférieur à 50 euros. La restauration fait partie du secteur des SERVICES et il serait bon que cet établissement se pose quelques questions.

I got to know ZEN through a culinary scavenger hunt. I really like the furnishings and the ambience, especially the beautiful decorations on the ceiling and the indirect, cozy lighting. The dishes are particularly beautifully presented on the plates and are really exceptionally tasty. I always order without peanuts and it worked every time. ZEN can also be easily reached by bus and train.

-Attentive service -Main courses too small. Bun doesn't work at all, what you get as a grown man for just under €16.00. You won't get enough of it. That's a disgrace, even though you've already had a starter. -Atmosphere simple and clean. You feel good. Conclusion: I went there for the second time and didn't get full. But ordering the dish twice doesn't make sense. I'd rather go somewhere else that serves generous portions. No recommendation from me!

The food is good. The service from one waitress is really bad. It makes me feel I am begging for food, but not they are offering food. And she just take all things away when we just finished our food and still sitting there and chatting. The food is good but we could also go some where else to enjoy the other food instead suffering these services.

We have been to ZEN countless times and are always thrilled! This time we ordered sushi “Kamasutra” and it was just incredibly fresh and delicious. The food is always beautifully prepared. The service is courteous, always friendly and you always experience ZEN in a very casual, cozy and friendly atmosphere. Our absolute favorite place <3

It wasn't the first time there but definitely the last time! You feel (and are treated like that) like a chicken on the rack that needs to be processed as quickly as possible. Food was ok. The way you are treated there is catastrophic. NEVER AGAIN!

We ordered food online, where only the old menu is available. It was NOT pointed out that the dish no longer exists and simply wrote down another dish for which we were charged an extra €10 without us being made aware of it. Furthermore, when we picked it up, we were cheekily told that the price had been quoted to us over the phone, which is absolutely not true. Very cheeky and snippy answers and no helpfulness. Also €4 for pasta instead of rice…

The two of us wanted to eat at Zen. The day before we called there to reserve a table for 6 p.m. We were told that there was no need to reserve a table for two people at that time and that we should just come. When we got there the restaurant was busy and because there wasn't much space we had to sit at the table with other people. This isn't a big problem for us per se, but it did mean that we had to sit at the end of a table right next to the door, from which cold air was constantly blowing towards us. If we had had the opportunity to make a reservation, this could have been avoided. The restaurant became fuller and more and more people were seated at tables that were actually already occupied. We heard the boss telling her employees to work faster so the tables could be freed up. It didn't seem like the employees were being treated fairly. At first we sat next to each other at the table, but at the end of our visit we were asked to sit opposite each other so that another group could sit at the table. So we ended up sitting tightly on the benches and were able to involuntarily follow the conversations of those sitting next to us. We were denied a private atmosphere and instead felt like chickens on a perch. On the whole, you got the feeling, especially from the boss, that the restaurant wanted to fill its coffers by serving as many guests as possible at the same time and as quickly as possible. Although the food is good, unfortunately we will not be visiting the restaurant again because of this experience. There are others where we could have had a much nicer evening.

Very nice and good restaurant with a large selection of delicious Asian dishes and unusual cocktails with an Asian touch! ✨ Here you can eat very well in groups. Since there are only large tables, you may end up sitting with other guests, but I don't think that's a bad thing. The restaurant was very busy on Friday evening, so make sure you make a reservation! Everything tasted great! The employees are well trained and were able to provide competent advice regarding ingredients due to allergies. They were also super warm and radiated positive energy, even though they had their hands full. Really, really great restaurant!

I've been to Zen before. The sushi is always very good, solid. However, according to the staff, the tables are designed for 10 (!) people. Mind you, these are 10 people who have nothing to do with each other. We arrived and were initially ignored for a long time, then we were told to sit at a table where 5 people were already sitting. Unfortunately, you really sit directly, arm to arm, with strangers. When we said that it was too tight for us, we were asked to leave because we could "get rid of the table to someone else". It's a shame that Zen has changed so much for the worse...

Very bad and unfriendly service. Despite reservations, I couldn't get a proper seat. Barely paid attention to by the staff and squeezed into already full tables.

Wir waren leider sehr enttäuscht. Am Eingang roch es unangenehm, weshalb wir überlegten, wieder zu gehen. Wir blieben dann aber doch, da die Bewertungen, die wir vorher gelesen hatten, durchaus positiv waren. Ein Blick auf die Speisekarte: - Aperol-Maracuja für 8,50€ mit einer frischen halben Maracuja garniert (sehr lecker) - Sushi wollten wir eigentlich essen, jedoch hört der ‚Spaß‘ dann auf, wenn man sieht, dass zB eine Crunchy Rolle an die 20€ kostet (Makis ab 6-7€) … Wir sind uns durchaus bewusst, dass Sushi Handarbeit ist und ggf. teurer Fisch verarbeitet wird, jedoch haben wir schon durchaus preiswerteres, qualitativ hochwertiges Sushi gegessen bzw. selbst gemacht. Zudem muss man auch überlegen, dass man von einer Rolle idR noch nicht gesättigt ist. Da uns der Appetit auf Sushi dann vergangen ist, entscheiden wir uns als Vorspeise für frittierte Black Tiger Garnelen (3 Stück) mit Chili-Dip und etwas Salat (sehr lecker, aber wieder….Kosten: 9€) und zur Hauptspeise eine Bowl bzw. ein Bun. Geschmacklich waren die Hauptspeisen okay, aber leider nichts Besonderes. Wir würden leider nicht wieder kommen.

Really delicious, fresh food of very good quality. However, the prices, especially for drinks, are very expensive! Our waitress (Laura) was very friendly and served us well. However, when Laura was busy somewhere else for a few minutes and our food was already ready on the counter in the open kitchen, no other server felt responsible or able to bring our food to the table. After looking at this for 3-4 minutes, I got up myself and got our food before it got any further cold. The uncollegial and ignorant behavior of some of the employees there disgusted me and is unacceptable, especially not at the expense of the guests...

Just wow! The ZEN in the heart of Bonn is an absolute recommendation. First of all: Yes, it is on the “not so beautiful” Bertha von Suttner-Platz with the busier street - BUT the quality of the food and the service are simply 5 stars in the price range. The concept follows an open kitchen concept, so you can get an insight into the kitchen and the freshness of the preparation. A video attached shows this impressively. There is a lot of different food on offer, so we particularly wanted to try the sushi in advance - I mean we had the Black Tiger Roll. The price here is in the upper segment - but the enjoyment is really very, very good. For the main course we had Pho soup and the Kokus Red Curry with Barbarie duck breast. The curry is really good value for money at EUR 19.50 and was really a culinary delight. We would also like to particularly emphasize the friendly and impeccable service. The young lady did her job simply fantastically: friendly, competent, always keeping an eye on everything and overall just like a professional! Clearly the price-performance ratio in this dining segment is in the upper segment compared to other restos in Bonn, but we think it's very worth it and we'll be happy to come back! Absolute recommendation. 😉👍🏼👌🏼

Der Sushi war gut , der Red Curry war so la la. Sehr neutraler Geschmack. Aber das Erlebnis in dem Restaurant ingesamt war sehr enttäuschend und sehr unfreundlich ! Ich habe die Kellnerin nach einer Speise im Lunchmenü gefragt und sie hat mindestens 2 mal gegenüber mir geäußert, dass es doch schon günstig sei und ich froh sein soll. Am Ende sagt sie mir in einem strengen Ton, dass sie eine absolute Ausnahme macht meine Rechnung in Höhe von 33.50€ über Kartenzahlung laufen zu lassen weil es normalerweise ja ab 35€ wäre. Das nächste Mal wird sie es nicht mehr akzeptieren. Also wirklich sehr unfreundlich und abgehoben die Kellnerin. Daher mein letztes Mal …

Wir waren am 21.01.24 nach der Demo gegen Rechtsextremismus in Bonn im Zen. Warum ist das wichtig? Weil die Personalplanung sicher diese Großveranstaltung und den daraus resultierenden Ansturm nicht berücksichtigt hatten, aber... ...die Küchen-Crew und das Servicepersonal an den Tischen haben freundlichst, hochkonzentriert und extrem professionell das plötzlich vollbesetzte Restaurant bedient! Wir saßen direkt am Pass und könnten die koordinierte Topleistung in der Küche, die fantastische Performanz des Service und die sensationelle Zusammenarbeit hautnah beobachten, ja fast schon genießen!! Unsere Sushi-Bestellung kam recht schnell und war -trotz des Drucks bedingt durch den Ansturm- noch handwerklich gut und lecker. Frischer Fisch, gutes Fisch-Reis Verhältnis und gut "gewürzter" Reis. Die frittierten Rolls im Tempura-Teig waren ein wenig zu lang im Fett, aber trotzdem noch lecker. Die im Zen verwendete Wasabi-Paste ist wirklich schlecht und passt überhaupt nicht zu den guten Sushi. Da gibt es bessere Produkte. Und es wäre wirklich toll, wenn es salzreduzierte Sojasauce geben würde; die passt aus unserer Sicht besser zu "feineren" Sushi.

Sehr leckeres Chicken Curry, sehr freundliche und aufmerksame Bedienung. Kinderfreundlich. Stylisch, edel aufgemacht. Gut für ungezwungenes Essen mit dem Partner / Partnerin.

Sehr lecker! Wir waren hier zum 3ten mal und es war immer wieder sehr gut. Das Sushi ist auch immer bombastisch!! Was ich auch noch sehr cool finde ist, dass sie zu fast jedem Essen noch Trockeneis hinzufügen. Insgesamt: 5 von 5 ⭐️🤩

Das essen war ok für die Preise aber nicht alles so toll!! Service war nett.... aber dann wollte ich für mein Baby ein kinderstuhl und da war das tolle essen und der Service absolut für die katz. Wir gehen oft essen und wischen immer nochmal über den kinderstuhl bevor und nachdem wir fertig sind. Aber das was Zen als kinderstuhl bezeichnet ist ekelhaft!
