ZamZam in Göttingen

Unfortunately, we wanted to order there today, but it was dark and there was no sign. The website said it was open. It's a shame.

Update: Tommy's Smashed Burger is temporarily being prepared by Zam Zam. There's now a larger version with more meat. Cheesecake is also new for dessert.

The food was absolutely delicious! Everything was perfectly well seasoned, the portions are generous and we got recommendations from the waiter. The waiter was incredibly helpful and sweet, even offering some hummus on the house. This place definitely deserves more attention in Göttingen and is one of the best restaurants in town!

One of the best restaurants in Göttingen for sure!!!☝🏼I’m a foodie and I don’t often write reviews, but I just had to for this one 🤤 Each bite was SO flavorful and everything was well-seasoned, I had to take extra rice because my veggie dish was so good! They have lots of vegetarian options, which was nice because I was abstaining from meat for Lent ☺️ The owner was also so friendly and even gave us free hummus 🥹 It was quite peaceful on a Saturday night, which felt wrong because a restaurant as GOOD as this deserves more guests! 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️

Great restaurant with excellent cuisine ☺️ We had falafel, fattoush, and chicken mandi – all absolutely delicious! We haven't eaten this well in a long time :) My mom and I were there during Ramadan, and they served a free lentil soup. When I mentioned that I was also fasting, the friendly owner immediately brought us dates and drinks. We felt very comfortable and will be back on our next visit to Göttingen. Thank you 😊

Zamzam is a very good restaurant, just something different. The food is excellent, and the friendly owner is happy to advise you. If you're traveling with less adventurous companions, Zamzam shares its premises with a burger joint, which is also said to be quite good.

We wanted to try out the Zamzam restaurant this evening. At 6:30 p.m., there were no customers in sight. We waited in the restaurant for 10 minutes, but no one noticed us. It also smelled strongly of a toilet. It's a shame, since we'd only seen positive reviews beforehand.

ZamZam: Unfortunately, our meal didn't look as good as the other pictures here. The food itself was quite tasty, but it wasn't what was advertised on the menu. My vegetable dish was completely without sauce and very dry. The spicy spinach with thyme salad and cheese was unfortunately missing the salad, including the cheese. When I asked if it had been forgotten, I was told that they simply didn't serve any salad with the dish. Full price for half a dish... €15 for oriental creamed spinach with rice is quite a hefty price. The server was also very short-tempered and seemed like he didn't want any customers. Thommy's Burger: The restaurant has a shared gastro-style dining room. Cool concept, because there are two different restaurants in the same restaurant. One of our group had a burger. The service here was very friendly, and the burger with fries was very good. The only downside: We had to pay for all our drinks at Thommy's Burger, even though only one person was eating there. A quick glance at the menu after paying explained why: The same drinks are 0.50 cents more expensive here than at our flatmate's. So, both dining partners are adding to the tip. I really don't understand the good reviews. But who knows, maybe the actual chef at ZamZam was sick, and so was the actual server, and the drinks thing was just a misunderstanding. Maybe I'll give the shared dining room a second and final chance, but then I'd rather go there without any expectations and quickly check the bill(s) before paying.

Simply super delicious food! In addition, very nice people and uncomplicated service and customer contact. For our wedding we had a buffet lunch from Zamzam. It was very tasty, plentiful and was praised by all guests. The Eritrean and other oriental dishes are something completely different and there is something for every taste, a lot of vegetarian, some vegan and of course also delicious dishes with meat! We are already looking forward to our next visit to the restaurant! And we definitely recommend Zamzam as catering for anyone who likes something a little more relaxed and unconventional.

A cozy restaurant that you can almost miss! The owner himself served us and told us a bit about the restaurant and the origin of the dishes; We were the only guests that evening and really enjoyed the quiet atmosphere :) the homemade hummus is a MUST!

I think this is like the hidden gem of restaurants in Göttingen ! It looks like nothing on the outside, actually shared with the Smashburger restaurant, so you are unlikely to walk in by chance. The restaurant was very quiet tonight while on the city center main streets every other place was full... But the food was simply delicious, so yummy, and it felt like a little oasis!

The positive first: friendly service, probably the boss. However, we were (intentionally!) brought a large appetizer platter even though only one of us had ordered a small appetizer. We were forced to share it between three of us. My main course (Achita) consisted of undercooked potatoes and vegetables in larger pieces, plus injera, which didn't seem very authentic to me. The taste was okay, the rice was very tasty. A total drawback: the selection of drinks. There are no alcoholic drinks at all and only a limited selection of alternatives. The non-alcoholic Hefeweizen was at room temperature and was brought with a glass that was too small. The atmosphere is actually quite homely, if it weren't for Lieferando employees in full gear and their huge bags coming and going or hanging around the restaurant all the time. For me the place is over.

Really delicious food with friendly service in an attractive atmosphere! In terms of price it's not a bargain, but it's still within reasonable limits. The only point of criticism that could be made is that parts of the court were legitimately charred; There is potential for optimization here. All in all, absolutely recommended!

It was a beautiful day today, we wanted to go out to eat before the DFB Cup final, we didn't know ZamZam yet. Since we entered the restaurant right at opening time, we were the first guests. So we were able to enjoy the full attention of the nice host and his cooking, lovely wife. The menu is pleasantly clear, but thanks to the many side dishes you can put together a variety of different dishes individually. We started with the appetizer platter, which contained a large number of delicacies that would be beyond our scope to list. What should definitely be highlighted are the juicy, light and crispy falafel, which we have never had the pleasure of experiencing in such quality. Not to mention, of course, the baked dumplings filled with a lentil paste, the many pastes, cream cheese mixtures, pickled vegetables and olives. For the main course we chose a kebab, which was very plentiful, and three side dishes to choose from were included, so that we were able to turn two essentially the same dishes into two completely different ones. Here too we couldn't help but be amazed, we were so impressed by the aromas we were able to enjoy. What should not be forgotten is that we were greeted with a greeting from the kitchen in the form of a pureed lentil soup, which, with its spices, opened the door to the world of Arabian tastes. One more thing: We are convinced meat eaters, but today we actually had to admit that giving up meat would not have reduced our enjoyment in any way. If you now consider that the prices are quite moderate (we paid well under 50.00 euros for the large starter platter, two main courses and two drinks each) you can only do this to anyone who is interested in more than just pizza, pasta, Gyros and kebabs I highly recommend heading to Papendiek. Oh yes, the memory of this meal also made the outcome of the cup final easier to bear. ZamZam is very, very high on our restaurant list. So, some time has now passed and we had another meal at ZamZam, but, to put it bluntly, it was more than disappointing. The delicious starter plate had shrunk to a collection of carelessly slapped pastes and the main course was clearly burnt. I don't know whether it was because someone canceled or simply lost interest in the good cuisine, but I'll give this restaurant the chance to revise my verdict at some point. It's a shame, we were so excited on our first visit... First visit May 21, 2022, second visit December 5, 2023.

Sehr sehr gutes Essen, freundliche sowie familiäre Bedienung und nettes Ambiente. Das gegrillte Hähnchen ist top, kann ich sehr empfehlen! Ein bisschen Wartezeit, aber die haben wir mit netten Gesprächen überbrückt. Ein Besuch lohnt sich auf alle Fälle!!!

Wer ein normales Restaurant erwartet liegt hier falsch. Man wird sehr nett bedient und es wirkt alles sehr familiär. Man darf sich nicht davon abschrecken lassen, dass vielleicht wenig los ist oder es keine echten, ausgebildeten Kellner oder Kellnerinnen gibt. Der Service ist sehr nett und das Essen unfassbar lecker. Immer wieder gerne. Vor allem die Preisleitung ist sehr gut. Würzige Brote und eine Suppe als Vorspeise gab es gleich einmal aufs Haus!

One of the few places in Göttingen that offers halal food. Visited this place a couple of times. Loved the food every time. Also prices are very reasonable. Service is not very good since there is only one person doing everything.

A beautiful restaurant for eating oriental dishes, the service is nice, the place is quiet and clean, they have a baby chair, we ordered kebab, grilled chicken and fattoush and they were all very tasty, and the rice was cooked perfectly .. I recommend calling and ordering before coming if you are going to order a meal of meat or chicken, so that you wan't have to wait for your request for too long...

Geiler Laden. Würden wir in Göttingen wohnen, wäre das definitiv ein regelmäßiges Ziel! Super nett geführt und vor allem das Mandi war sehr lecker und vor allem frisch zubereitet! Fast ein wenig zu günstig...Ich würde auch mehr bezahlen Danke :)

Absolut empfehlenswert!! Bringt bisschen Zeit mit aber dafür ist der Geschmack umso besser!

Sehr leckeres und hochwertiges Essen zu einem fairen Preis. Das Essen wird ganz offensichtlich frisch im Haus (keine Convenience) zubereitet. Service ist steht’s freundlich. Man muss etwas Wartezeit einberechnen aber es lohnt sich! Für die Muslime: man hat dort sogar die Möglichkeit sein Gebet zu verrichten. Und auf Anfrage werden Reste nicht weggeworfen, sondern selbstverständlich mitgegeben. Wirklich immer wieder ein Besuch wert!

Die besten Falafel die ich je gegessen habe. Sehr herzlicher Umgang. Orientalische Gerichte toll umgesetzt. Sehr zu empfehlen!!

Sensationell gute Qualität orientalischer Küche zu wirklich günstigen Preisen! Der Service könnte sympathischer nicht sein und der Chef ist bereit und gewillt einem auch die eritreische Küche und Kultur näher zu bringen.

Ein Lokal zum Genießen! Wirklich eine Kunst für sich, besonders der Vorspeisenteller, die Falaffel und das (vegane) Moussaka sind sehr zu empfehlen! Für ein Buffet für kleine und größere Feiern lassen sich die beiden Inhaber auch noch weitere zb vegane/ vegetarische leckere Speisen einfallen.
