Za'atar Falafel in Berlin

A small restaurant on a side street right next to the S1 Julius-Leberbrücke. Cozy atmosphere and delicious food.

The falafel here is excellent, freshly prepared (not microwaved, fried on the spot). The ingredients are high quality, and the salad mix includes fresh herbs like mint that add a refreshing taste. Definitely recommend trying this place! ;)

We happened upon this place by chance and were very pleasantly surprised. We'll definitely be back! The dishes were plentiful and very tasty, and the presentation was also very appealing. Thank you very much.

For someone who is used to good lebanese food, this restaurant IS NOT Middle Eastern as it claims and some of the plates are actually disgusting (even if I don’t like to use this word to describe food). It tastes more like culture appropriation to me (if you know what I mean)

The mix bowl can be enough for 2 people and shawarma in it was really tasty. The meat loaf was a bit dry, but I would still go back to this restaurant Edit after 1 year: I came back, it's still great!

We sat under the large umbrella on the roof yesterday. A generous, delicious shawarma plate for €9.50, a good drinkable wine, and fast and friendly service. There's absolutely nothing to complain about. A definite recommendation.

A great experience. I always wonder how food can taste so good. We had the za'atar platter for two. Tip: When ordering, maybe ask for a little more sauce.

One of the best falafel sandwiches I’ve ever had. I didn’t have any cash (or access to an ATM) and the gentleman very kindly gave me my sandwich. Extremely generous.

The falafel is delicious, and the shawarma plates are also very good. When the weather's nice, you can sit comfortably on the roof terrace. The team is very friendly.

I had an amazing experience at this Arabic restaurant. I ordered the kafta, and it was absolutely delicious perfectly seasoned, juicy, and full of authentic flavor. You can tell the ingredients were fresh and prepared with care. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was friendly and attentive from start to finish. Everything from the food to the ambiance felt genuinely thoughtful and well done. It's not easy to find places that get everything right, but this one really delivered. Highly recommended - I'll definitely be coming back!

Update Removing two stars, because after eating zataar teller , I and my gf both had stomachache. Previous review: I could give more than 5 stars to this place. If you know how to make top sandwiches, then you have to try this place. Everything is made of high quality products and perfect cooking. The customer service is at its top :)

For me it was the tastiest Arabic food I have ever eaten in Berlin. The Za'atar plate has a little bit of everything, all very tasty. The shop is small but cozy. It is a snack restaurant decorated with taste. Every time I leave the store very satisfied 😊

Food is really good. Unfortunately my dish "Israeli Sabich Teller" was renamed "Sabich Teller". When even the shawarma shop becomes political, you lose the desire to go. Too bad.

Yummy! Centrally located at the Julius Leber Bridge, Za'atar Falafel may not be an insider tip, but it is a real recommendation!!! Various Arabic dishes to choose from with meat, vegetarian but also vegan, there is something for everyone. In-depth conversations with the boys are rather difficult due to the language barrier, but it's still tasty ;) Stay so good.. gladly again!!!

Very disappointing once and never again. Make sure you don't get any shawarma from the lecture. Just heat it in the microwave from the day before and try to cover it up with sauce. Just disgusting, shame on you!

Pure disappointment with Za'atar Falafel I was really excited about my visit to Za'atar Falafel, but unfortunately I was sorely disappointed. As soon as I entered the store, I noticed that the atmosphere was anything but inviting. But that was just the beginning. I chose the shawarma and was shocked to see the cold meat being reheated in the microwave. That just has no respect for food preparation! The result was a tough, tasteless piece of meat that was anything but fresh or tasty. I would have expected more - especially from a restaurant that prides itself on such cuisine. The spices were barely there and the entire dish was just bland. I feel like I ended up at a fast food chain instead of a place that offers authentic, tasty dishes. The supplements couldn't save much either - they were just as uninspired. Bottom line, I can't recommend Za'atar Falafel. If you're looking for real, tasty shawarma, look elsewhere. A real disaster!

Food quality, portions and service deteriorated while prices increased.

There's always something missing from my order and you only notice it when you open the bag at home. Because I know that they always forget something, I asked them if there was bread and they said yes and I couldn't find any bread at home. Plus they aren't friendly at all and don't even ask how you want your sandwich, otherwise just do it. Chicken meat is cut coarsely and without love and contains bones. At the beginning the employees tried hard but now there are unfriendly employees, poor quality and only cash payment "best regards to the tax office". I'm never going there again.

We particularly enjoyed dining at @Za’atar Falaf,el! The vegetarian plate for two was truly delicious with a selection of freshly made cold and warm meze. The halloumi and falafel were our favorite. The service was fast and most of all very friendly and welcoming. Great value for money! Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick, nice and fresh dinner. We’ll come back!

Wow. Such a great find! I was craving for falafel and found this place on Google with great reviews and decided to try it out being so close to my airbnb. I’ve made a great decision.. I ordered the big platter with everything in it and it was just so delicious! Everything on the plate was so tasty and made with love for sure. Turkish food with lots of influences from the Middle East I imagined and it tasted amazing.

The tomato/onion manaish was super good. We also had zaatar, very mild and absolutely good. Dr dough is perfect! Not too thick, not too thin and not dry. Simply perfect

I recommend the Vegan Mixed Plate, which I really enjoyed and is very inexpensive! Very friendly staff and a pleasant atmosphere round off my visit to Za'atar for me! The music in the background goes straight to my heart! I would love to come here again to dine exceptionally well!!!

I loved my visit to Za'atar Falafel. The selection is great and the quality of the food is top. The falafel burgers are to die for and the homemade sauces make every dish a taste experience. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is pleasant. I'd love to come back!

Good and cheap food from the region from Lebanon to Israel

Very pleasantly surprised, all the ingredients are of high quality, so that even a simple shawarma tastes better than usual.

It's just a snack bar, but for a group of 20 people the pre-ordered food came quickly to the table on the roof terrace. You had to ask about plates and rugs to distribute because they were large plates. It was delicious.

We visited the restaurant on a Sunday evening and absolutely loved it. We had a falafel plate and a shawarma plate. What we liked best, however, were the sandwiches - simply the best we've eaten in Berlin so far. The location is also great! Definitely 5/5 stars!

Where else can you get such a good homemade falafel for €5? By Za'atar! Just the right snack after exercise! The shop is located on a quiet side street, where you can sit down and relax with friends.

Now one of my favorite shops in Berlin for Arabic food, especially all veggie dishes (falafel, hummus, baba ghanouj, muhammara, etc.). You can sit outside, the food is on the table quickly and the price-performance ratio is great!

With the best falafel shop. Falafel is always fresh and the hot sauce is really, really tasty! Very cozy and relaxed outside and inside. I'll be back every time I'm in the area. It's also super comfortable for larger groups, especially if you can sit outside upstairs.

We had decided to come here specifically as the restaurant had a lot of good reviews and the photos looked appealing. Unfortunately, it turned out to be an unpleasant experience. I ordered the vegan plate, but I really regret it. Most of the food on the plate was not fresh, quite greasy and tasteless. The vegetable dough was too stale to eat. When we reported this to the waiter, his attitude was not polite at all. He claimed that everything was made fresh and said we had 'no taste in our mouths'. He didn't even want to listen to us. When paying, we as customers wanted to give feedback because usually the owner asks if everything was OK. Unfortunately we were disappointed. The employees were unfriendly, even when ordering. Upstairs, where we sat, the tables were dirty and glass bottles and trash had accumulated. There are certainly better alternatives for falafel and vegan options in Berlin. I do not recommend this restaurant.

Used to be A LOT better but sadly, there are a few things that need improvement lately. Like: - staff is SUPER slow. If there are more than 5 people waiting, you better have a lot of waiting time planned because even if there are like 5 people working, only 1 will handle the food. - the same person who handles the food (with bare hands btw) will regularly handle money, dirty dishes, cleaning supplies or touch their hands - without washing after. At least thats what I experienced several times now. - sandwich sizes vary, a lot. I have to weigh food for medical reasons and the last 5 sandwiches varied by about 30%, which is insane. None of the above used to be the case until about a year ago, which is sad because the sandwiches still taste quite good (and plates are still a rip off).

I rarely give 5 stars to a fast food restaurant. This one is very good: variety without going overboard. Very good flavors. Slightly minimalist simplicity. And a very nice terrace with plants on the first floor.

Very, very tasty! Best falafel and brilliant sauces. Inexpensive. Good service. Allergies are also taken into account where possible. Nice atmosphere, especially on the roof terrace! But only use the toilet if you really need to.

Price performance winner! Always full and sometimes long lines with complicated orders with countless special requests. When I listened to it, I would sometimes refuse indignantly, but here people are eagerly taking notes and working on it... Respect!

I’ll keep the review short and simple. Been to Zaatar more than 10 times. Over the last few months the quantity of the food has drastically decreased. Look at the same vegetarian platter I ordered in March and then yesterday in June. Along with this decrease they have also increased prices. So you’re paying more for even lesser food. Having that said, the quality of the food is still as good as before. Just saddened by their recent changes. Used to go here a lot. Probably wont as much moving on.
