Yamas mezé restaurant & weinbar in Bochum

We did it again! We have been here off and on since 2016. The menu has constantly adapted - the quality and great concept as well as the service have remained the same and great. In particular, the service from a young lady today was simply pleasantly good, from the beginning to the bill. We'd love to come back!

Wir waren heute zu zweit nach etlichen Jahren durch einen privaten Termin in Bochum und sind durch Zufall in dieser Meze-Bar gelandet. Und für diesen Zufall sind wir dankbar. Ich versuche mal, die unterschiedlichen Bewertungen hier aus meiner persönlichen Sicht und der heutigen Erfahrung zusammenzufassen: Ich bin geschäftlich in den letzten 10 Jahren rund 30-40 Mal in Griechenland gewesen und habe dort mindestens doppelt so viele Geschäftsessen miterlebt. Und wenn ich sage, dass diese Meze hier das erste griechische Essen war, dass ich hier als authentisch bezeichne, dann könnte ich kein größeres Lob aussprechen. Die Speisen heben sich qualitativ wohltuend von den Imbissqualitäten nach „griechischer Art“ ab, die viele Leute als „typisch griechisch“ eben im Kopf haben, und das scheint ein Problem zu sein. Wer ein Freund von „Metaxa-Schnitzel mit Pommes und einem Ouzo aufs Haus“ ist und mit dieser Erwartung im Kopf hier essen geht, der wird enttäuscht sein. Und genau das lese ich hier in einigen „Frust-Bewertungen“. Bitte missverstehen sie mich nicht, das soll nicht herablassend klingen, es geht hier lediglich um falsche Erwartungshaltungen. Auch ich esse gerne ein schnelles Gyros Pita „auf die Hand“. Das ist aber nicht zu vergleichen mit dem Essen von heute: -echter Fetakäse im Sesammantel gebraten und mit Honigsauce -Stücke von Doradenfilet auf Selleriepüree mit Kalamatatropfen und Kapernapfel -Gyros von Pulled Pork auf superleckerem Pitabrot mit hausgemachtem Tzatziki -köstliche Kartoffelecken mit geraspeltem Käse on top Was die angesprochenen Preise betrifft: das oben genannte hat mit einem Bier vom Fass, einem Glas leckeren Weißwein, einem Cappuccino und einer Cola insgesamt 48,70 Euro gekostet. Das ist preislich mehr als angemessen, da gibt es nichts zu meckern. Die Einrichtung ist übrigens angenehm zurückhaltend und stimmig, irgendwo zwischen Bar in mediterranem Stil und Restaurant. Der Service war immer präsent und freundlich. Wir waren nach dem Essen angenehm satt und werden garantiert wiederkommen. Klare Empfehlung.

Reserved a table for 2 people early. When we arrived we got the last table in the last corner. When we asked if we could get another table, the answer was...we have a larger party so no. It would have been nice to meet us beforehand If we had been informed about this, we would have chosen another restaurant early on. It was our wedding anniversary.../ we otherwise really enjoy staying at Yamas. Not a nice evening!!

Wir hatten einen Tisch für 2 Personen gebucht. ( Hochzeitstag). Uns wurde der letzte Tisch in der letzten Ecke zugewiesen. Auf Nachfrage ob wir einen anderen Tisch bekommen könnten, wurde uns gesagt ...Nein keine Möglichkeit, wir haben eine Gesellschaft mit 60 Personen. Es wäre schön gewesen, uns im Vorfeld darüber zu informieren, dass das Restaurant am Limit ist. Freunde der griechischen Küche und des Yamas verloren!

It looks very impersonal and cold. Moussaka came to the table lukewarm. But it was taken back and re-served somewhat warm.

One issue I just wondered; before ordering the foods and drinks, waiter said that only cash payment could be accepted that night (Saturday) and after finished the dinner, we paid with cash but waiter did not offer us giving a receipt for 120€. I suspect that, this restaurant avoids declaring their earning especially at the high demanding days. German tax office may inspect that matter. (Upon restaurant managment's request; 12th Oct. 2024 8am, 3 people. a brunette waiter with beard served to us. I will add a picture showing our table location.)

I love eating here, The range of delicacies from Greek cuisine are of very high quality and prepared with a lot of love. The portions are sufficient even for good eaters. The staff is very attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is great. I find the prices very moderate. Always my pleasure.

Schon bei der Ankunft um 17 Uhr, das Restaurant war nur spärlich besetzt, die erste negative Erfahrung. Am Eingang prangert ein Schild: „bitte warten, Sie werden an Ihren Tisch gebracht“. Hinter der Theke waren 3 Angestellte. Wir wurden gesehen, jedoch 3-4 (!) Minuten im kalten, zugigen Eingangsbereich stehengelassen (wie bereits erwähnt, es waren wenig Gäste im Restaurant). Wir hatten online reserviert und als ein Mitarbeiter zu uns kam und wir unsere Namen nannten, begann das lustige hin und herschieben auf der Buchungsliste auf dem Tablett. Eine gute Minute später, wir konnten endlich an unseren Tisch! Die Einrichtung ist schön dekoriert und einladend. Am Tisch wurden wir schnell bedient, bestellten Getränke und konnten uns die verschiedenen Tapas in der Karte auswählen. Für die Bestellung lagen ein Notizblatt mit Stift bereit. Es gab 2 Spalten: 1. Gang und 2. Gang. Wir wählten 2 Tapas als ersten Gang und 4 Tapas für den zweiten Gang. Als wir den Zettel für die Bestellung abgeben, werden wir gefragt: „Möchten Sie alles gleichzeitig oder möchten Sie die Tapas aufteilen?“ Nach kurzer Verwunderung erklären wir dem Kellner, dass wir es gerne so hätten wie auf dem Notizblatt. 2 Tapas vorab, den Rest dann später. Scheinbar war dieser Kellner nicht mit dem hausinternen System bekannt. Das Lokal füllte sich, die Kellner standen jedoch mit 4 bis 5 Personen in zwei Gruppen im Gang. Eine Folgebestellung für Getränke gestaltete sich dennoch schwierig, da sich das Personal herzlich unterhielt und viel lachte. Als der zweite Gang mit 4 Tapas kam, war Tisch Overload, denn dieser war viel zu klein, was man bei einem Konzept mit Tapas besser einplanen müsste. Das Essen war hervorragend, optisch ansprechend, lecker und es gab nichts auszusetzen. Der nächste Bock kam dann beim Abräumen. Eine Schüssel wurde so gehalten, dass die Soße über dem Tisch und auf dem Boden verteilt würde, vom Personal jedoch völlig unbemerkt bleib. Ich war froh, dass mein Hemd verfehl wurde. Die Bezahlung funktionierte schnell und unkompliziert.

Service top Food very tasty We'd love to come back

Went there for dinner on September 2nd, 2024 at around 1 p.m. I had a dish from the lunch menu “Steak” with fried potato sticks (fries) and 2 pitta pieces. It was moderately attended, which made the food disappointing. Lukewarm and it looked as if the meat and the side dish had just been warmed again. The meat was dry and slightly burnt and the side dish looked like it was made from old oil and was hard!! ️sorry that was my last visit, there are better places in Bochum and the surrounding area

Fantastic food and atmosphere. We came on a Wednesday night and it was so busy showing how popular the restaurant is. You use the paper and pencil to write down your selections and it can come in 2 ‘waves’. Delicious food with great flavour, and great coffee too!

I was astonished to have come across the only Greek restaurant I know of where hospitality is not a priority. The waiter had to be repeatedly spoken to loudly about the drinks at the table. The food was okay, but unfortunately not a revelation. I would have liked something special in this price range. But the crowning glory at the end: Not even an ouzo or something similar on the house, with a bill of €240 / four people, despite asking, I think it's cheeky.

Выбрали ресторан греческой кухни, были наслышаны, как здесь вкусно) И так) мы пришли, ресторан был полупустым, нас посадила за стол, который был не готов для гостей. У нас приняли заказ, но не принесли приборы, тарелки, стол не накрыли) начали приносить заказ, по прежнему не принеся приборы(( пока мы не попросили. Грязную посуду не убирали, мы долго ждали, когда подойдёт официант для оплаты. Если вы делаете заказ, то знайте, больше вы заказать не сможете долго) официанта не дождаться. Еда была нормальная, без восхищения. Подачу блюд можно улучшить, это же в ресторане, а не еда быстрого приготовления на улице. Обслуживание ужасное.

Restaurant is designed for masses. Depending on the dish, the food is good and sometimes very good. Unfortunately, only one dish tasted completely like flour. Service rather unfriendly and atmosphere like in the train station. My girlfriend had stomach problems after eating. If you read the reviews here, you'll notice that this is not an isolated case!!

Absolutely good cuisine, nice and humorous service. Positive: Water flat rate - should become commonplace everywhere. I recommend one dish for light eaters and two dishes for normal eaters.

The food is amazing and in particular the best Greek food I've ever had outside of Greece. I've enjoyed coming here again and again for years. Unfortunately, the last two experiences have been very disappointing in terms of service, especially for this price. For example, last Friday: We were ignored for a long time, had to wait a long time for all our orders (e.g. we had already been sitting for 20 minutes before we could place our drink order) and, apart from a nice waitress, everyone was annoyed and didn't treat us courteously. No “good evening”, no “bon appetit” or anything like that. Unfortunately, we didn't feel comfortable the last two times because of this and we won't be coming back for the time being.

Busy restaurant with the Greek version of tapas. You can try out the various interesting dishes, which sometimes stand out from the “Greek” next door. In terms of price, the price here is on the higher side, but it is also justified. Unfortunately, there were some waiting times during service where the items weren't cleared away or you couldn't order new drinks. You should try it out!

It was very delicious. Only smaller meals are served, similar to Spanish tapas. We paid €65 for 4 drinks and 6 of these dishes. As I said, delicious and we were full.

Yesterday we went to Yamas in Bochum for the first time with 6 people. I was amazed by the great quality of the food. Everything was really tasty, fresh and creative and carefully prepared. Despite the full restaurant and the very hot temperatures outside, the waiters were in a good mood and friendly. It was this great kind of natural friendliness and wit that didn't seem fake but authentic. They are smaller tapas portions (which are not really “small”). It is advisable to choose 2-3 per person and then of course share. It's fun to try so many different things. At the end we were recommended an ouzo, which was wonderfully soft. The ouzo selection, like the wine list, is really large and is described in the menu with nice information about the corresponding drink. Sure, the whole thing wasn't cheap, but it was worth every euro! Great team, my husband and I will definitely come back and even travel from the Lower Rhine again! Next time maybe in Dortmund too.

Enjoyed the delicacies at lunchtime today. I added the salad from the weekly menu, which was simply incredibly fresh and particularly tasty. Great! In terms of size alone, it would have been enough. We were there for the first time and it was just really good. The food was super tasty and authentic. Service was very courteous and friendly. You can sit very well both inside and outside. At the moment this is the best restaurant I have ever visited in Bochum. The food is incredible. The only thing stopping me from giving it 5 stars is that they added a dish to our bill that we ordered and therefore didn't eat. Unfortunately we noticed this the next day. I think I will come back here again. And if everything goes well next time, I'm willing to give it 5 stars.

A restaurant is considered excellent if the cuisine can maintain its high standard. This has been the case at Yamas for years. We had ten different mezedes for three people, including “classics” like Oktapodi or Fava and, for the first time, the vegetarian Stifado. A real pleasure. With a bottle of Moschofilero it was another perfect evening. Efcharisto poli.

With his concept, Stavros offers a completely different type of Greek cuisine, namely a large selection of creatively prepared Greek delicacies (mezédes) and selected wines from different Greek regions. Every time we order a variety of mezédes, which are spread around the table for everyone to try. Everything freshly prepared and very tasty. Plus one of the excellent wines from various Greek wineries. The service is very friendly and accommodating and responds quickly to guests' requests, even if the restaurant is fully booked. Immer wieder lecker! Bester Grieche ever!

Super leckeres Essen, hübsches Ambiente. Wir kommen wieder!

Mal richtig lecker. Lohnt sich wirklich. Wir waren da zum Teamessen. Der Kellner hat sich unsere Essgewohnheiten (Laktose-Intoleranz, veganer, Vegetarier, Allergie) gemerkt und und entsprechend, beim Servieren, aufmerksam gemacht. Alle waren sehr nett. Tolles Lokal. Reservierung nötig. Toiletten sind sauber und riechen gut. Gerne komme ich/ wir wieder

Der andere und bessere Grieche. Lecker und gut. Hier wird feine griechische Küche serviert. Einfach fantastisch. Dazu ein freundlicher und hilfsbereiter Service. Schöner kann man einen griechischen Abend im verregneten Bochum nicht verbringen.

Einfach absolut enttäuschend. Wer hier eine authentische griechische Küche erwartet, wird bitter enttäuscht und ist hier völlig fehl am Platz. Mit griechischer Küche hatte das leider wirklich nichts zu tun. Zwar waren Service und Ambiente soweit okay, aber griechisches Essen geht anders. Wir werden jedenfalls nicht wiederkommen.
