What was once a true cult spot in Würzburg has unfortunately declined considerably. You can't go wrong with a half chicken with fries to go, although there are now better alternatives in Würzburg. The food in the restaurant was unfortunately not good; the schnitzel was overcooked and the roast pork had a rubbery consistency. It's a real shame, but I hope for better times to come.

Horrible! The beef liver was drenched in Maggi seasoning, making it almost inedible. The fried chicken must have been ancient, it was so dry. Apparently, a grilled chicken from the previous day had been put through the deep fryer again.

Enjoyed German foods and beers here! Staff are friendly and foods are tasty. Very value for money.

A proper German Wirtshaus serving good local draft beer and tasty German traditional food. The staff is friendly and even provides draft beers for takeaway after closing hours. Highly recommended.

We've been going to this restaurant for decades. The menu was always extensive and the pizza was delicious. We're back now after a five-month break. The menu is small and there's no more pizza, which is a shame. Prices have gone up. The service wasn't what it used to be. The ambiance in the main room has deteriorated. It's more modern now and not as quaint as it always was. It's a shame. I hope there will be more choice again, especially pizza. The food was otherwise good. Just the classics, shoulder of pork and knuckle of pork. I hope the friendly Asian service is still there. Everything went smoothly there.

Disappointed, after all these years. I've been visiting this restaurant regularly for the past 14 years. Unfortunately, after the coronavirus pandemic, the service started to deteriorate: inattentive, slow, and sometimes, unfortunately, unfriendly. It's really no longer suitable for a lunch break: it's simply not possible to wait 10-15 minutes for your order in a half-empty restaurant, alert the staff once or several times that you still need to order, and wait 30-40 minutes for a grilled chicken. Disappointed, because the food tastes good.

A true disaster: one server has to pay for everyone. The food doesn't arrive right away. It takes 20-25 minutes. The server also has to go downstairs to get plugged in. I've been to the previous restaurant many times, but I'll avoid this one in the future.

Glorious food. We had crunchy pork knuckles and very tasty and fresh spargel with hollandaise sauce. Both dishes were delicious. There was just one server and she was from Korea who could barely speak English so communicating was tough. She was nice and efficient though.

It looks like a better chicken roastery from the outside, but the menu has even more to offer, especially during asparagus season. Damn delicious, so delicious that we enjoyed it two days in a row. The space on the street is just right for people who want to see a "road show" here and there

I walked this way by chance. I ate outside because it was very pleasantly warm. Unfortunately there was a lot of smoking at the bar table 😕that's why only 3 stars. The theater is also currently being remodeled and the wall with hanging cables doesn't look very nice 🧐. The employee was more friendly to regular guests and served them earlier. I chose asparagus with Hollandaise sauce and potatoes and a Wiener schnitzel. I didn't know the combination, but I thought it was good. The food was good and also warm. The price was also right for me. Good restaurant not just for regular guests 🤗😃

In one word: CREEPY. Why? I drove 20 km there because the review promised something good. First the parking situation, unfortunately only for a fee. So off to the parking garage for 2.50 per half hour... Then sat outside and waited 2 tables occupied 2 more still full of glasses. After about 15 minutes the waitress (or other service person) came and put something with fries in front of a guest who was standing at the barrel and then cleared the table next to me and disappeared again. No hello, good day or just a moment please. That was the signal to me that I was probably not wanted.... So off to the parking garage, release the vehicle and go back 20 km... NEVER AGAIN!

We visited a delicious chicken restaurant in Würzburg. We had half a chicken, the crispy chicken salad, and two dumplings with sauce. The salad was my favorite, and the chicken was tasty too. The dumplings were okay, but I didn’t like the sauce much. The service was very friendly, and they even offered free lollipops at the end. Overall, for great chicken, this is definitely a good spot in Würzburg!

Unfortunately, the chicken now comes in a plastic bowl instead of a thermos bag, so it was basically cold at home. Of course, this bag is then only for the waste incineration plant and the plastic is supposedly pure, but picking it up and then eating it warm at home is only possible within a few kilometers, which is a shame

Had dinner here today. Negative: - Knife for cutting schnitzel not sharp (all knives that were there) - We were squeezed between other strangers - Cobwebs on the ceiling, old ambience is ok but at least once a month you can remove the cobwebs. Positive: - Food was great. Big compliments to the kitchen - Waitress was very friendly and helpful

The inn has developed greatly in recent years. Great for sitting outside, especially in summer!

The stay at Karthäuser was the pinnacle. Sitting alone at a large table. It took 20 minutes for the drink to arrive. Shortly afterwards, four more people joined us. Now the kicker. The 4 guests got their food before me. Things like that are extremely stressful. Never again. A juice shop like no other.

I complained about Crispi Chicken, but the waitress missed it. Schäufele went like this, didn't eat it. Don't visit the restaurant anymore.

We had made a reservation, but upon arrival the waiter didn't seem to know this. We were given a table in a back room even though we specifically requested the Stubbe. Fortunately this was resolved because two people had just paid. The waiter was absolutely friendly. We ordered a grilled half chicken and a chicken schnitzel with side salad, both with fries. My partner got his half chicken and fries, I got a salad with pieces of fried chicken schnitzel and an side salad. My comment that I had not ordered this was followed by apologies and he wanted to correct it. However, we had been waiting for a long time and my partner already had his food so we left it that way. Besides the fact that I just don't like warm, crispy meat on a dressing-soaked salad (where there's little warm and crunchy leftover to the meat), it wasn't that bad in terms of taste. The side salad was of course completely unnecessary, I already had it with the chicken. My partner's chicken was quite tasty. We ordered another glass of wine, but we never received it. After waiting another half hour and not seeing the waiter anymore, we went to pay. I immediately indicated that I would not pay for the salad supplement and the manager agreed. Overall a disappointment (given the good reviews). Food mediocre, service friendly but service and organization poor. Shame.

We were in Würzburg from Wednesday to Friday last week. In the evening we booked a table at the Kartäuser inn. We were amazed by the friendliness of the waitress. The food was hearty, very tasty and plentiful. Requests were addressed and implemented. We liked it so much that we went back the next evening. My change of order caused the waitress to shake her head, but we had a good laugh together. I can only recommend the inn. We'd love to come back.

Here you can eat wonderfully good traditional food. The Karthausen Cordon bleu is highly recommended. And they also have delicious beer, what more could you want.

The take-away chicken is an absolute classic! But you also feel completely at home when you eat a leisurely meal and it tastes good with decent portions. It is simply one of the last real "taverns" in Würzburg...

It was our first time in this restaurant and unfortunately we were disappointed. We ordered chicken and fries, but the chicken was undercooked. The cola tasted like it had been open for a long time and was barely carbonated. In addition, the food was served carelessly - without ketchup or mayonnaise, which we had to order separately. Food: relatively high quality! Definitely tip, half chicken with fries, the meat fell off the bone like butter and the breast meat wasn't dry as it often is with grilled chicken. Service: Nice and accommodating, but the waitress was too busy and had to wait a relatively long time until we could order drinks, but there are worse things. Ambience: Rustic atmosphere as you would expect from a Franconian restaurant, there is nothing wrong with it! One point of criticism is the sink in the men's toilet, it couldn't be smaller! You can hardly wash your hands without touching the tap and the sink, although that's partly due to the space, but well, I'll come back anyway.

I went to this pub for lunch on Christmas Day with family. Unfortunately we had to wait half an hour for the food, perhaps because it was full and it was a public holiday. But the beer and the food were nice and plentiful and very good. Half duck with dumplings and red cabbage. Tastes good and delicious. Otherwise we really liked it.

Ordered some food to take home. Unfortunately two dumplings were missing. --> Extremely unfriendly telephone service: "Nothing will be reordered." and hung up. Of course it was paid in advance. Is this how you treat your customers? The quality of the food was good, but unfortunately the service was the opposite. You don't order to have stress, but rather to make your work easier and you pay for it. Or would this unfriendly employee at Karthäuser want to meet himself in a restaurant?!

We had duck, Schäufele & chicken. It was very tasty and plentiful. The service was friendly, despite it being busy. Unfortunately, the orders were a bit chaotic. So something was always missing or was added later. We thought it was nice to be seated at a table with strangers. It's just a small place in the Kartäuser, but it's rustic Franconian.

You should always start positively. The food is very, very good. People who know their craft work here. Absolute top class and without a doubt a recommendation. Unfortunately, our visit was more dominated by the remaining impressions. When we came into the dining room we were told very harshly that we had to wait. After a short while we were told to sit down at a table (despite reservations) where people were already sitting. Luckily we were able to avert that. And got a table for us. In progress. Only when asked were the leftovers from the previous person removed from our table. The food we ordered came after ¾ of an hour, while our table next door was ready to eat - although it came later and ordered later. Because we were seated in the hallway, we not only always heard the cold air from outside but also the harsh sound of the cellars. Neither helps the situation. All in all, you can speak of excellent food here and it is definitely a culinary recommendation. Unfortunately, service falls short and you have to compensate for that with your own people and your own sense of humor.

Ended up here by chance and we are happy about it! Everything was perfect and very tasty. There was: Schwabenpfännle and Ochsebäckle with savoy cabbage and red cabbage (reordered) the waiter was super friendly. Price-performance unbeatable! PS: Red cabbage (red cabbage) as good as at Muddi.

Great food, great service. 👍 We had dinner with the family on a Saturday evening in the run-up to Christmas and had reserved a table in advance. When we arrived the table was still occupied, there was apparently a double booking. However, the phenomenal team on site did everything possible to clarify the situation and so we were able to take our seats a few minutes late. The food came to the table super quickly and was really delicious. All in all: 1A food at fair prices and a strong service team. Gladly again at any time.

We have been getting our 1/2 chicken here for decades. But it gets worse from time to time. Last time it was no longer edible at all. I have no idea what's going on there, but e.g. Currently absolutely not recommended. Absolutely terrible!!

I ordered 1 chicken and fries to be delivered there. After the chicken was so inedible, extremely dry and just plain bad, I threw it away completely. Called there really angry. I was really angry. Whoever spoke to me on the phone was so incompetent when it came to dealing with customers that he ultimately wanted to reprimand me. I had to write this review very very disappointed.

I had lunch at Karthäuser with my husband and kids. As always, there were delicious cheese spaetzle and super crispy chicken with fries. For dessert we just had to have a round of apple fritters - we can't go past those. The service was super friendly and also great with the kids. Gladly again.

I only give the two stars for the service of our waiter. He alone would have deserved more. BUT the boss! There are no words for him. In any case, no good words from me. It was unbelievable how he spoke to his staff. How can you treat people like that and then expect good work to be done? If you have something to clarify, you do it behind the scenes and don't attack your employees like that in front of the guests ! But don't worry, he doesn't treat the guests much better. These are also sometimes addressed in an impossible tone. It's a shame about the beautiful restaurant. But something like that is anything but hospitality. ANSWER to the answer from the owner: Of course, something can and should be said if something is wrong. But the tone and the manner make the music. That was absolutely not right. And I have been working in the catering industry for over 30 years. So I can very well judge what works and what doesn't. And they didn't treat the guests any better either.

Half chicken potato salad 14.80 Chicken lay dry like a brick in the stomach. Potato salad bland oily dressing. Coarse wedges, some potatoes halved or in thirds, relatively hard consistency. Fries were great.

Food good - service partly unsatisfactory As is typical in Franconia, I ordered Schäufele, which tasted good. Overall, for €19.90 you got a good portion that was appropriate for the price. In terms of taste, I've had better Schäufele but overall it was really good but not exceptional or outstandingly good - the same applies to the gravy... I think it's good that there is no extra fee for changing inserts, as is usually the case elsewhere! Unfortunately the service left something to be desired. But here I felt particularly sorry for the waiter. The young waiter (estimated to be around 20-25 years old) had to handle the service in the entire store completely on his own, even though he was just having one of his first days... This was also noticeable because he was still very good at many things seemed unsafe and, in particular, everything took quite a long time..... But this is no wonder when you leave the entire service to a young service newcomer in a fully staffed and well-attended restaurant.... Nevertheless, he always appeared extremely friendly towards the guests and repeatedly apologized for the long waiting times and the lack of procedures due to his lack of experience. I very much hope that another service person can be found here quickly to support the young gentlemen and I especially hope that this does not remain a permanent situation, as I found it today..... As already mentioned: The service person can help you I'm most sorry here... I can actually only explain the problem that there was a short-term increase in staff shortages or that the restaurant operator simply cannot find any more waiters (or does not want to find them at all or thinks they are necessary...) We don't know what's wrong here... If you get the chance, you might want to replace the toilets in the next few years, as they are getting quite old. Overall, 4/5 stars for me because of the good food and the nice service I would like to come back on my next visit to Würzburg and hope that the service will be better then!

No idea if there is a new owner here. But the chicken we always came here for wasn't great this time. We were there with the entire family. Two small children, grandma, grandpa, my wife and me. We always came there when we were in Würzburg. Always with potato salad and half a grilled chicken. So far we have never been disappointed. This time the chicken seemed to have come out of the deep fryer. They weren't great. However, there are the fries. Grandpa had knuckle, which he also liked, and my wife also had another dish in the pan. Everyone with chicken was disappointed. Too bad. Maybe a new owner? All of this was made up for by the extremely friendly service. She seems to be the good soul of the house. At the end, the children each received a lollipop.

I like to enjoy good home cooking in a cozy atmosphere. Freshly squeezed lemon juice with lemonade is a wonderful alternative to the usual drinks, which usually seem too sweet to me. The grilled chicken and pork knuckle are fabulous. The bread dumplings in cream sauce with fresh chanterelles from the daily menu were excellent. I've been coming here for decades and am happy to recommend it. Many thanks and best regards to the entire team.

Unfortunately, that was a complete disappointment. We ordered 5 dishes and the Schäufle Burger three times. The baguette simply came raw and was not baked; you could hardly eat it. When I asked the waitress about it, she was totally crazy Silly and didn't want to listen to it. Therefore nothing was done. It's a shame but we won't be coming back

Was there for the 3rd time. Before that, about 3 years ago. The quality is not recommended. Unfortunately, when the owner changes, the quality also changes. That was true in the truest sense of the word. I will never be a guest there again. Sorry, but criticism was necessary.

After a long time I felt like half a chicken again, I wanted to try the BBQ chicken (marinated in BBQ). Unfortunately, it wasn't marinated; after serving, they simply poured BBQ sauce over it. 🤦🏼‍♂️ 14.90€ the usual half chicken costs 9.90€ The cordon bleu was fried! Come on guys, that just doesn't work. A little butter in a pan and fried nice and slow. Complete!! The level of catering continues to fall while prices rise. 👏 Keep it up!

It was the worst chicken I had ever eaten. Tasteless, no crispy skin and dry as straw. When I complained, the chicken was taken away and put back in the oven. When it came back it was swimming in oily garlic. The fries were rock hard and had obviously been thrown in the grease again and fried again. Therefore they were very crunchy and also inedible. My companions and I haven't eaten so badly in a long time. The service tried to save the whole thing. But friendliness doesn't help if it doesn't taste good. A pity. And we had to pay expensive money for that.

Wow! What a typical Franconian meal from a Berlin innkeeper! Arrived sober and headed straight into town! What more could you want… Oh, the fruit schnapps is world class.
