They were so annoyed on the phone that I didn't feel like going there anymore.

We called at short notice and were allowed to eat in even before the kitchen opened. Our three different dishes were delicious. I had duck breast with dumplings and red cabbage. It tasted just like Mom used to make. Thank you so much, we'll definitely be back.

The Wirtshaus im Ehrental is a highlight in Schmalkalden and worth a visit. The location, right on the edge of the forest, is beautiful and inviting after a hike or simply to relax. The ambiance, both inside and in the cozy beer garden, is rustic, traditional, and very well-maintained. The quality of the food is good. The dishes are typically Thuringian – everything was delicious, and the portions were more than sufficient. The selection on the menu is somewhat smaller compared to other restaurants. A little more variety on the standard menu would be welcome, especially if you're a frequent visitor.

We were there with friends and had the 2 holiday apartments and it was amazing, very modern and above all nice and quiet, it is on the edge of the forest and we booked breakfast in the inn and it was great, nothing was missing and we also ate twice as it was very tasty but above all I would like to highlight the boss, a very nice woman and very hospitable, so my conclusion is highly recommended and anytime again 👍

Beautifully situated in the middle of the forest. The food was very good and reasonably priced. We had roast venison with dumplings, cranberries, and salad for €22.00. The portion was generous and very tasty. We only ate there. But they also have vacation apartments.

I stopped here spontaneously on a bike ride and arrived 10 minutes before opening time. I was still welcomed and served immediately, which I think is really great. I ordered a slat, which was good. The price-performance ratio is debatable. I found it a bit steep. The location is really beautiful, nestled in the forest. There's a large children's playground. The service was friendly. However, I had to wait quite a while for payment. All in all, it's worth recommending. :)

All well and good when you arrive. We were there with a group of motorcyclists for dinner, not to stay overnight. If you order too little food, the landlady will start yelling at you in a shocking way. The waitress even got rude at the end when you tried to express your opinion. Never again from this place.

Fast and friendly service. But: We wanted to eat regional food, so we ordered three roast venison veal dishes with Thuringian dumplings and red cabbage, or cranberries and salad. A huge disappointment! One of the meats was completely stringy (inedible), dumplings, red cabbage, and flavorless sauce, probably convenience foods. A complete waste of money and an empty stomach for one of us, leaving the restaurant with a big cash pile. We were given a drink off the bill. Thanks to the service, but a big minus for the kitchen.

Four of us went there for lunch. The waitresses were incredibly patient and attentive to our special requests. The children's meal was served with the adults' first course without being asked, which was fantastic. The food was consistently delicious. The food is freshly cooked with high-quality ingredients and lovingly presented! A lovely, rustic inn. Idyllic location. Great for outdoor dining, too. Highly recommended.

We stopped by the inn for lunch today without making a reservation. We can only recommend it; the food, service, and prices were excellent.

Very tasty... Thuringian cuisine...

The inn is idyllically located in the middle of a wooded valley a little away from the city. The hut is beautifully designed and the view outside is also very inviting. We all enjoyed the food very much. The waiting times were okay. The waitress was friendly. The food came in large portions and was beautifully presented. Our stay couldn't have gone better.

It used to be a really good restaurant, but I can no longer recommend it. The food is average, with a strong downward trend over the years - the prices are far too high. Icing on the cake: waitress(s) unfriendly and arrogant That was probably our last time, as well as some friends and acquaintances with similar experiences. One more pity star for the wonderful ambience and a portion of “Once upon a time”. Too bad.

The Wirtshaus Im Ehrental is a wonderful restaurant in the middle of the Thuringian Forest on the edge of Schmalkalden. Always worth a visit.

We were in the inn in mid-June 2024. The inn was open until 8 p.m. and even though we were there at the last minute, the friendly waitress offered us a place. You can sit outside very well, but there is also a nice rustic atmosphere in the inn. Food was top and freshly prepared. Prices also very good. Can only be recommended.

Delicious food, nice beer garden with an adjacent playground for the little ones. For decades we have always been satisfied when we are back home.

Super sauber, super freundlich, super gutes Essen, sehr große Portionen. Besser geht nicht. Wir waren im vergangenen Jahr auch einmal hier und waren genauso zufrieden. Sehr gemütliche Einrichtung, das Personal sehr hübsch gekleidet und ausgesprochen freundlich. Wäre schön, wenn man das von allen Gaststätten in der Region sagen könnte.

Friendly and flexible service. We were there on New Year's Eve shortly before a booked group. Almost all seats were reserved, but we were offered a seat and served a warm meal.

The inn in Ehrental is probably the tip in the surrounding area. The price-performance ratio is unbeatable and the service is extremely customer-oriented. Reservation strongly recommended. The inn is located directly in the forest and offers a wonderful view of the red deer and fallow deer enclosure in summer. The animals are largely tame and are happy to be petted in exchange for a few apples. Please note that these animals cannot tolerate bread! There are enough parking spaces nearby and only in the worst case no more than 100 m away. Since the road is only a feeder to the hotel and inn and then turns into a forest path, there is no road noise. In summer there are various covered places on the edge of the forest where you can enjoy good food with self-service. In winter it is “only” served in the inn. The menu is clear, but offers something for everyone. There is also a selection for children. The game dishes, which are particularly characterized by their excellent cooking quality, are particularly recommended. Also worth mentioning are the sauces, which always complement the dish and support it in a well-rounded manner. The service is friendly and sufficiently staffed that requests can be accommodated at any time. Conclusion: the inn is particularly recommended and anyone who is nearby will miss out on an excellent meal if they pass by without visiting.

Nicht zum ersten Mal hier aber auch nicht zum letzten Mal. Essen gut, Ambiente gut, Personal sehr gut. Heute am 25.11.2023 hier gegessen, alles hervorragend, Qualität der Speisen und der Service. Kann man nur empfehlen.

Obwohl ich derbe verschwitzt nach einer Wanderung mit Hund dort ankam wurde ich sehr nett und zuvorkommend behandelt. Frisches Wasser steht für Hunde kostenfrei bereit. Auch meine Bitte um eine rohe Hühnerbrust für meinen Hund wurde ohne Probleme erfüllt. Der Hund kann im Außenbereich direkt neben oder unter dem Tisch Platz nehmen. Der bestellte Wildgulasch mit Thüringer Klößen war sehr lecker zart und mit dezentem Wildgeschmack. Es gab reichlich Soße mit einer tollen Sämigkeit perfekt abgeschmeckt. Ein Schälchen Preiselbeerkompott gab es extra dazu. Die thüringer Klöße sind wie bei Oma früher. Findet man leider nur noch selten in dieser Qualität. Der dazugehörige Salat war knackig frisch angerichtet und mit der richtigen Menge Dressing serviert. Die Qualität und das Timing waren perfekt. Obwohl ich im Selbstbedienungsbereich saß bekam ich das Essen an den Tisch serviert. Fazit: sehr idyllisch gelegenes Gasthaus mit großem Außenbereich Hundefreundlich mit außerordentlich leckerem Essen freundlichem Service und das alles zu einem sehr fairen Preis.

Sind hier nach einer Wanderung zum Essen eingekehrt und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Frische, regionale Gerichte, toller, sehr aufmerksamer Sevice. Haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt Herzlichen Dank ans ganze Team!

Oduševljeni smo ovim restoranom! Jela su bila iznimno ukusna, s posebnim naglaskom na svježe i kvalitetne sastojke. Osoblje je bilo ljubazno i susretljivo, što nam je omogućilo opušteno uživanje u hrani. Vrlo lijepo iskustvo.

Ich kann wirklich nur positives sagen! Essen ist saisonal und wirklich lecker.Bedienung ist aufmerksam und freundlich gewesen. Es wird definitiv nicht der letzte Besuch hier gewesen sein.

Wir hatten einen so wunderbaren Einstieg in unseren sensationellen Urlaub in Thüringen und Sachsen-Anhalt hier im Gasthof Ehrental. Wir wollten unbedingt mal Schmalkalden sehen und haben uns für unsere Mittagspause auf der Fahrt von Südbayern nach Thüringen den Gasthof Ehrental ausgesucht - und waren begeistert!!! Wunderschöner Biergarten in einer tollen Landschaft, leckeres Essen und supernette Bedienung - einfach Klasse!!

Das Essen war super hat sehr gut geschmeckt und war auch reichlich. Preise sind ok. Auch die Bedienung ist sehr freundlich. Kommen gerne wieder.

Wir waren zum ersten und letzten Mal in dem Lokal! Die Wirtin ist zum fremdschämen und an Unfreundlichkeit nicht zu übertreffen. Gebt euer Geld lieber in einem anderen Gasthaus aus, denn das Essen ist hier auch nur durchschnittlich. Wer doch kommt, für den gibt es einen kleinen Tip: Kleine Kritik am Essen und ihr erlebt Frau Wirtin in Fahrt. Aber fraglich ob man das nach einem gemütlichen Familienessen braucht. Wir nicht, daher gehen wir zukünftig lieber woanders hin!
