Wirt am Dom in Wetzlar

A top-notch Italian restaurant with a view of the cathedral. Pasta, pizza, and fish dishes are always delicious! Even under new management since July 2025, highly recommended as always! A visit is definitely worth it.

We had a lovely meal at this Italian restaurant tonight. The service was excellent and the staff were very friendly. The menu included some surprising pasta dishes. The food was delicious. Compliments.

🍽️ 3 out of 5 stars – Good food, but room for improvement in terms of organization We were there with a larger group of about 20 people and were looking forward to a lovely lunch together. The food tasted really good, nothing to complain about. Unfortunately, three of our dishes were completely forgotten – they only arrived when the rest of the group was almost finished. That was a real shame and somewhat dampened the sense of community. Especially for groups, the organization should be better coordinated so that everyone can eat at the same time. Nevertheless: The food itself was impressive, and if they continue to work on the coordination of the process, we would be happy to come back.

The restaurant is located just 30 meters from the cathedral – a fantastic location! The food was truly excellent, and the service was also completely convincing. The ambiance is a successful combination of modern and classic elements; everything appears very well-kept and clean. I'd be happy to come back – highly recommended!

The restaurant is nothing like a traditional pizzeria. Fine pasta and excellent steak are served, but pizza is also on the menu. The value for money and service are absolutely excellent.

The place is currently not that special due to construction work - unfortunately I was disappointed with the food. My pizza was too dry for my taste and had no flavor - the pasta was drowning in oil. Neither was eaten.

I had pizza for lunch today. I chose an Adria pizza and was not disappointed. It was very tasty, and the wait was reasonable.

We booked a table about a week in advance, arrived five minutes earlier, and waited, waited, and waited in the cold. The overcrowded restaurant was packed with guests like sardines. After about 20 minutes, after we weren't even asked for a reservation, we left. This was truly a complete disgrace on the part of the owner, and not even worth a star. Never again!

We had reserved a table for three people for 7:30 p.m. There were already a few people waiting ahead of us. We also had to wait. For 30 minutes, outside in freezing temperatures. Then we left. Without food. The staff were very rude. Never again!

Good food, without any highs or lows. Very tasty dessert, but a bit pricey (€9.50 for a tartufo, which was effectively the equivalent of two very good scoops of ice cream). Everything was wonderful, but it lacked the wow factor for a five-star rating. Nevertheless, we would definitely eat here again if we visit Wetzlar again.

The service was extremely unprofessional and rude. We had a reservation and were sent to the barracks, only to be told I was in the wrong place. The second question – it was made clear to me that I was disturbing someone – took some time. Luckily, I spotted my colleagues already seated at the table. The food was mediocre quality – unfortunately, it came on unheated plates and therefore quickly got cold. We were then directed to the cashier to pay. In summary: lousy service – hospitality is better – and no desire to return.

Favorite Italian 💕 everything is just right here. Great food, great staff, great ambience!

Service was subpar today. Table reserved for 7:00 p.m. (!), seated at 7:25 p.m. Eating took 1.5 hours. No apology, no attention. We were about to leave! Very unfriendly staff, didn't feel welcome at all. In contrast to the regular guests who were welcomed beaming with joy. The food was still quite good, but not outstanding either. Once and then somewhere else.

Very good Italian food. The menu is not very extensive, which is due to the quality of the dishes. The staff is very friendly. Good value for money. We always like to come back.

Just ok. Ordering was a bit stressful. Pronto pronto. I felt rushed trying to order for two others who don’t speak German. Food was fine but nothing special. I had salad with my dressing 😂. Pasta and meatballs was good and not too big. My son enjoyed eating fresh made pizza with fork and knife. Ambiance was nice in close vicinity of the Dom. But then we were forgotten. After plates were cleared the waiter passed us several times ignoring us. We may have ordered a dessert but in the end we just wanted to get the bill.

Excellent food at a reasonable price. Unfortunately there were no children's portions, but we had pizza again in the evening.

Very good service. Unfortunately there was some annoying construction noise in front of the restaurant. Things will be quieter in 2025, then the interior work will begin. We had a chicken breast fillet with vegetables (lunch table) and a tuna tartare. Both very tasty. Plus a gluten-free pizza bread. Top! Gluten-free pizza and pasta are available upon request. Would be worth mentioning on the menu. Or I missed it🤔 Finally, a delicious espresso. We'll be back in summer 2025!🫶

We had reserved ten. When we arrived everything was still free and we were asked inside or outside. We chose inside and were given the menu and what we wanted to drink very quickly. Besides me, the three others still had to look and so we asked for a mom. The waiter then came and took drinks and food at the same time. I would have found it good that 3 out of 4 people chose water that the waiter asked for a large bottle. No, we got 3 small bottles for €9.60🫣 ok, maybe it was our mistake too, no one paid attention to what was ordered. The food also came quickly. I had pasta with chanterelles. Nowhere was there rocket and cheese (cheese allergy!). I didn't say anything... I just put down all the cheese and my son ate it. Then 3 people were finished, one wasn't finished yet and was cleared away. In the meantime a few tables outside were occupied. Where there were 3 cellars running around. We wanted a dessert... but no one came... my son went to the counter, but there was no one there. No one looked after us or asked if we wanted anything else, be it food or something to drink. My husband then called out as the waiter went in. To answer, I'll be right there. After dessert, same thing when paying. If they hadn't been nice and friendly I would have given the service 1*. Service is different at over €150 for food. Especially since it was a birthday dinner. Even if there was more to do outside, we could have shot more often. The taste of the food was ok, but also the pizza, mushrooms were painted instead of ham. 3 euros were added to the price - 16€ for the pizza is really steep. It is questionable whether we will go again.

We have been regular guests here for many years. The terrace on Cathedral Square is particularly beautiful.

Worst service. I arrived when the terrace was full. I was told to wait 15 minutes for a table to become available (and it's ok since I didn't make a reservation). 3 people arrived after me (3 different groups), everyone got a table and were served their drinks. I? I'm still waiting for a table and I'm still waiting for my order to be taken (it's 30° today, I'd like to have at least something to drink). When I inform the staff, they react very aggressively. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this restaurant at all. WORST SERVICE EVER. When I arrived the terrace was full. I was told to wait 15 minutes for a table to be free (which is ok because I didn't book). 3 people arrived after me, they all got a table, ordered, and had their drinks served. Me? I'm still waiting for my table, and I'm still waiting for my order to be taken. When I inform the staff, I am answered in a very aggressive way. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL.

Der Wirt am Dom ist immer ein Besuch wert. Gutes Essen, gute Weine und sehr sympathische Inhaber. Einer der besten Italiener im Umkreis mit Blick auf den Dom.

Steak with chanterelles 32 euros —> tk vegetables (“they’re not tk”, worked in the catering industry myself and could already tell;)) steak well done and not medium, 5 small rosemary potatoes… Price performance inadequate Pizza on the neighboring table for 13 euros looked much better, but I won't be back.

Nice location right next to the cathedral and the food is really good too. Unfortunately the service doesn't keep up. After the main course the staff suddenly became invisible. No coffee, no dessert menu and over half an hour of waiting time to pay. Too bad!

Bruschetta a bit bland, pasta very tasty. The dining room was very stuffy/warm and unfortunately acoustically loud.

Totally unsuitable for groups. The first person in the group gets dessert while others eat the main course. Eating the main course between the 1st and 15th takes at least 30 minutes. As mentioned, rump steak arrives 30 minutes late and instead of medium it comes rare...leaves a lot to be desired. For 2nd, 4th, 6th, maybe more suitable.

Three times pasta; everyone at the table was very impressed. The dessert was also very good, and the espresso is really great! We've been there several times, very nice service, nice (tablecloths + cloth napkins :-)) but a bit cramped atmosphere. The food is always visually eye-catching and beautifully presented. Price/performance suits us. We will be back.

I am pleased to leave this review for a place that deserves 5 stars, like the cuisine and in particular the service. Thanks to Nicola, a man from another era, a true gentleman who accompanied us on a high-level culinary journey to discover typically Italian flavours!! Quality products and selected raw materials enrich a menu in which Italian cuisine is exalted. Everything perfect, location in front of the wonderful cathedral, it is a must if you are in the city. You won't be disappointed at all. TOP TOP!! well done, keep it up.

Nice location, a bit old-fashioned inside, walkway close to the tables… we were a larger, registered group. Were distributed to three tables inside😒 we all have two! Waited hours for the main course. Thank God I had an appetizer. Bruschetta wasn't great and at €7 it was very expensive like the rest. A salad Melissa…. Well: a split cocktail tomato, three cucumber slices, four mushroom slices, chicken breast very dry and soaked in aceto, grated carrots, green lettuce, parmesan cheese, rocket... Oil and balsamic vinegar separately on the salad. This meant that it tasted either oily or sour... the white wine spritzer for €6.70😳... I would definitely have drunk more, but the service was always just passing... It wasn't bad, but it was overpriced and it could definitely be better. I don't need this again...

Fange ich mal mit dem Essen an, Wiener Schnitzel mit Gemüse und Rosmarin Kartoffeln Für den Preis erwarte ich das die Panade fluffig ist und nicht eine Einheit mit den beiden "Schnitzelchen". Sah mir nach Kalbsmedaillons aus die in auf Größe planiert wurden. Das Gemüse war nach kurzer Zeit kalt, die Kartoffeln haben nach Kartoffeln ohne jegliches Salz geschmeckt. Der Salat sah groß aus was er auch war,aber nicht der Burner Nun zum Service,man erwartet das man nach Getränke gefragt wird wenn einem die Speisekarte gebracht wird, erwartung nicht erfüllt. Essen war schnell (ca 8 bis 10 min)da. Die Teller wurden zeitnah abgeräumt und dann saßen wir da erstmal so das wir nach ca 15 min selber an den Thresen gingen zum bezahlen. Man hätte zb nach einem Nachtisch oder Cappuccino ect fragen Können aber nein. Das Ambiente ist schön aber reißt das ganze nicht raus. Das Gesamtpaket für uns nicht nochmal.

Es war wieder einmal sehr lecker und der Service war gut. Die Nudeln aus dem Parmesanleib sind immer wieder ein Gedicht. Gerne wieder :-)

Einfach eine Frechheit. Man reserviert persönlich um 16:30 einen Tisch für 17:30. Um 17: 31 angekommen und Tisch ist vergeben!? Kommentar: Sie sind ja viel zu spät! So kann man wohl keinen neuen Kunden gewinnen.

Ein nettes kleines italienisches Restaurant. Die Küche bietet Pizza, Nudeln, Fleisch, Fisch und vieles mehr an. Die Zubereitung erfolgte schnell, alle Gerichte waren sehr köstlich. Das Servicepersonal war sehr aufmerksam und freundlich. Gerne wieder!

Wir hatten Glück und haben spontan am Sonntag Abend ohne Reservierung einen Tisch im abgedeckten Außenbereich mit Wärmesäulen bekommen. Das Essen war extrem lecker und die Bedienung außerordentlich nett. Ambiente war sehr gemütlich. Wenn wir in Wetzlar sind, gehen wir gerne hier essen.

Leckere italienische Küche in schönem Anbiente. Wir waren schon einige Male beim Wirt am Dom zu Gast und wurden noch nie enttäuscht. Immer gute Küche auf sehr gutem Niveau. Der. Service darf bei guter Auslastung gerne noch etwas aufmerksamer sein, aber das ist zu vernachlässigen.

Die Pizza war lecker. Das Ambiente innen ist ok. Draußen sah es sehr schön aus, war aber leider alles belegt. Wir wurden nur bei der Essensbestellung nach Getränken gefragt, danach kam niemand mehr ☹️. Zum Bezahlen mussten wir uns - wie bei Aldi - an eine lange Schlange an der Kasse anstellen. Total unpassend für so ein schönes Restaurant👎.

Wir hatten ein sehr gutes zweigängiges Mittagessen hier. Sehr netter Service, gute Weine und wirklich leckere Speisen. Das Vitello Tonnato war etwas kalt, ansonsten alles absolut top. Wir kommen gerne wieder. Tip: der Espresso ist ausgezeichnet!

Super service tolls Essen top quality

Direkt an Wetzlarer Dom gelegen, mit Aussenbereich und Blick auf die Altstadt. Der Service ist Aufmerksam und freundlich. Das typisch italienische Restaurant bietet entsprechende Speisen und Getränke. Immer wieder gerne kommen wir hier zum Essen vorbei.

Überraschend gutes italienisches Restaurant. Wir waren sehr positiv überrascht von diesem Restaurant. Die Bedienung ist wirklich nett und sehr freundlich. Die Karte spricht für sich, sie ist nicht übermäßig groß aber dafür sind die Gerichte sehr gut. Weiß nicht wie ich es richtig nennen soll, aber so stellt man sich ein italienisches Restaurant vor.

Wir waren am 22.08.2023 anlässlich eines 60. Geburtstags im Lokal zum Abendessen. Wir sind durch die überdurchschnittlichen guten Rezessionen auf den Wirt am Dom aufmerksam geworden. Für das Abendessen hatten wir 4 Plätze reserviert. Bestellt wurden 2 Steaks einmal Dorade und einmal Pasta mit Seeteufel. Die Dorade war perfekt und auf den Punkt gebraten. Die 2 Steaks waren ein Reinfall . Hier war nicht das auf dem Teller was ich erwartete. Nicht mit einer solchen Rezession. Die Pasta war für mich auch nicht auf den Punkt jedoch geschmacklich gut. Also für mich nicht ganz nachvollziehbar wie die überdurchschnittliche Bewertung zustande kommt. In Wezlar gibt es besseres. Update: Die Dorade zeichnete sich in der Nacht als ebenso nicht so bekömmlich. Eine Freundin war es die ganzen Nacht schlecht und mußte erbrechen. Auch uns wurde übrigens kein Digestif geboten und das obwohl wir die Steaks schon bemängelten denke das wäre wohl das wenigste gewesen zumal andere Gäste diesen sehr wohl bekamen.

Das Pastagericht war sehr lecker und die Bedienung sehr nett. Es war sehr voll, aber das spricht durchaus für das Restaurant

Für mich persönlich einer der besten Italiener im Umkreis. Super Essen , top Weine, absolut aufmerksamer Service! Und dann natürlich Drumherum die wunderschöne Altstadt und direkt vor der Nase der Dom. Gehe sehr gerne hier hin.

Waren auf Besuch in Wetzlar und wollten was essen . Pizza eines unserer Lieblingsgerichte , daher auch bestellt. Schade finde ich immer das man keine kleine Pizza bekommt. Pizza war frisch mit frischen Champignons und insgesamt sah sie lecker aus. Mit unserer Stamm Pizzeria kann sie allerdings nicht mithalten. Sie war gut aber es fehlte Würze. Mit Chilli und Pfeffer nachgeholfen. Service und essen ging sehr flott. Pizza war um die 12,50. .

Ein Restaurant, wo ich immer wieder gern gehen werde! Sehr empfehlenswert, sehr! 👌🏼

ich frage mich immer, warum die Leute hier stets Pizza essen: Wirt am Dom hat exzellente Fischgerichte und Köche, die wissen wie man mit reinen, relativ einfachen Zutaten einen fantastisch subtilen Geschmack hinbekommt - gerade beim Fisch. Für uns der frischeste und leckerste Fisch im (erweiterten) Rhein-Main-Gebiet. Dazu gibt es hier eine feine Weinkarte. Nicola und Familie sind auch immer extrem kinderlieb, daher Empfehlung für Familien aber auch Business Besucher....Die Außenterrasse ist wundervoll, der Blick auf den historischen Dom ein Genuss....

Zentral am Domplatz gelegen. Grosser, gepflegter Aussenbereich. Karte italienisch. Pizza war ordentlich und handwerklich gut gemacht. Service recht flott und freundlich. Schade, dass keinerlei regionale Weine glasweise angeboten werden.

I was there in a very hot day of the July. Unfortunately all the bees of Wetzlar come over my pizza.. Not the best experience as the Owners have to find a good solution for this problem even if this is not their personal problem . Good Prices for the quality of food and professional Service Staff. I would recommend the visit there on the colder months of the year.

Unser absolutes Lieblingsrestaurant in Wetzlar und Umgebung. Wir kommen seit vielen Jahren zu Nico, Angela und dem lieben Team. Wir werden immer herzlich und sehr persönlich begrüßt und freuen uns über den guten Service von Aurelio und Vincenzo. Das Essen ist einfach lecker! Ich liebe den gegrillten Fisch, die tollen Nudel- und Fleischgerichte und das Tiramisu. Der Platz draußen am Dom ist so schön, das Urlaubsgefühle aufkommen. Erholung für Geist und Seele.

Das italienische Restaurant in historischem Gebäude im direkten Schatten des Wetzlarer Doms (eigentlich kein Dom, da kein Bischofssitz) lädt mit seinem guten Ausblick auf das beeindruckende Wahrzeichen der Stadt und mit seinem Außensitz zum Verweilen ein und bietet originelle italienische Küche von höher Qualität. Der sehr freundliche Service wirkt kompetent, bietet unaufdringlich die / das Gericht/e aus der Tageskarte an. Die Speisenkarte bietet alle typischen italienischen Speisen inkl. Pizze und Nudeln, aber auch Fleisch und Fisch. Wir hatten ein vitello tonnato, hervorragend, und die Zuppa Romana, Brühe mit Ei und Petersilie, mit etwas zusätzlichem Salz (reine Geschmackssache) sehr gut, vor allem heiß! Ich hatte sodann eine äußerst gute Pizza Adria (!), die eine der besten war, die ich kenne. Auch die Calzone meines Kollegen war top. Die Fuzis mit Ricotta und Birne übertraf die Erwartungen. Die Innenräumlichkeiten des Restaurants selbst sind etwas unglücklich verwinkelt und entsprechen zT nicht einem gehobenen Niveau. Dennoch: Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis ist angemessen. Deshalb insgesamt sehr gut.

Alles auf der Karte, außer die Pizzen, sind wirklich den Preis wert. Wer an einem großen Tisch mit Sitzbank sitzt, muss sich über die niedrige Höhe erfreuen, denn man sitzt zu tief um ordentlich und gemütlich essen zu können. Nachdem wir zu zweit für 120€ gegessen und getrunken haben gab es nicht mal einen Kaffee aufs Haus. Schade eigentlich, da sie sich dadurch keinen Zacken aus der Krone brechen würden.

Gutes Restaurant mit schöner Lage am Domplatz. Schmeckte alles vorzüglich, große Portionen,gute offene Weine , Bedienung schnell und korrekt. Preisniveau angemessen. Einziger Kritikpunkt: Obwohl wir um getrennte Rechnungen gebeten hatten, gab es beim Kassieren lange Diskussionen darum. Schade.

Habe gestern Abend die schlechteste Pasta seit langem gegessen! Ich hatte Penne mit Scampi und Lachs bestellt! Die Penne waren auf den Punkt, dafür die Scampi extratot und die Fischabfälle hatten auch keinen Kontakt zum Lachs! Absolut schlecht! Positiv: meine Frau bekam eine sehr gute Pizza!

Geschmacklich ist der Wirt am Dom kaum zu schlagen. Vom Fisch bis zur Pizza einwandfrei und nur zu empfehlen. Die Kellner waren immer sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Manchmal kann ein Besuch allerdings etwas anstrengend sein - vor allem, wenn man an den Sommerabenden draußen auf dem schönen Domplatz sitzen kann. Denn im Wirt am Dom trifft sich dann gerne die Wetzlarer "High Society", von denen manch einer den geleasten Porsche offenbar am liebsten direkt vor der Eingangstür abstellen würde, um ja von jedem Gast gesehen zu werden..
