November 14, 2025 The food is certainly good, and the beer is good too. But what you can't do here—and I know tastes vary—is this: As someone from Franconia would say, the mulled wine was absolutely awful. I took two sips of that bitter concoction, didn't complain out of politeness, returned the full mug, and got my deposit back. But somehow it went with the eerie music. But as I said, tastes differ.

A highly recommended restaurant. Good beer and excellent food. We had the vegan dish and the dumpling dish, as well as a very good salad. It tasted delicious and was also beautifully presented. If they had one or two more vegan dishes, it would be fantastic. The atmosphere in the restaurant is cozy and tasteful. The service leaves nothing to be desired, very attentive and friendly. We would gladly return anytime.

The waiter was super friendly and extremely attentive. The ambiance is authentically Bavarian, and the roast pork with dumplings is legendary! Highly recommended. If we're ever in Amberg again, we'll definitely be back!

We ate at the Winkler Bräuwirt yesterday. The food was good, the service very friendly. The clattering from the kitchen penetrated the parlor, as did the conversations of other guests—everything was simply too loud; you couldn't hear your own voice. The benches were hard and very cold, and there were no cushions.

The beer is great. The food is okay. The beer garden lacks any style, is unloved, and unkempt. Now, at the beginning of August, there are already so many leaves from the linden trees scattered everywhere, on tables and chairs in the gravel...the parasols are scattered haphazardly...uninviting and not pleasing to the eye.

There were four of us and we were able to order hot food from the menu at 1:45 p.m.

First, there were no hot meals available in the evenings, but then, upon request, they were able to prepare a cordon bleu for us, which we would have gladly skipped. It cost a whopping €19.90, and for that, they included their own creation of Obatzten cheese and a disgusting, unidentifiable ham wrapped in a strangely seasoned schnitzel. NO THANKS! That was the first and last time for us. They could have just said they had their own creation, and in the end, we had to pay the full price despite complaining.

Fantastic beer. Very tasty, the first few rounds in the afternoon. We stopped by again shortly before 10 p.m., but unfortunately, no more chances. We tried it for two days. What a shame.

Simply disgusting to me. The roast pork for €16.90 without salad was a cartilage-covered pork belly. Oh yes... Small salad €5.40 extra.

All in all, it was good. The only downside was that we, as a large group, had pre-ordered our food. However, when we arrived hours later, no one knew about it. This made things a bit hectic.

Located in a historic brewery site dating back to 1617, Winkler BräuWirt has been operated by the Winkler family since 1913 and continues to serve classic Bavarian fare alongside its house-brewed beers. The place draws visitors with its local atmosphere and long-standing brewing tradition. The Wiener schnitzel (Wiener Schnitzel) was a real feast – two large, crispy pieces of meat with a very generous portion of fries. You definitely won’t leave hungry. The venison sausages (Hirschkäsekrainer) served with a cranberry-horseradish sauce were very tasty, although the accompanying potatoes were a bit unusual in texture and flavor – not exactly to our liking. Out of curiosity, we also tried the sausage salads – both Bavarian (Bayrischer Wurstsalat) and Swiss (Schweizer Wurstsalat) versions. It was more of an experiment than a treat for us – the flavors were quite specific and didn’t quite appeal to our tastes. We probably wouldn’t order them again. The real highlight of this place is, unsurprisingly, the wide selection of delicious beer. As a brewpub, Winkler delivers on its promise – the beer is excellent, with rich flavor and character. All in all, Winkler BräuWirt offers a solid Bavarian dining experience, with hearty portions and excellent beer. While it didn’t completely blow us away, it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area and want to enjoy some traditional regional fare in a relaxed atmosphere.

The food and location were great. Unfortunately, the waitresses were a bit inattentive when it came to refilling drinks.

Cozy beer garden and very friendly, quick staff and delicious beer

Went to the Winkler beer garden/restaurant for lunch for the first time today. The location has a really nice atmosphere, but the young waitress is a bit overwhelmed when it comes to intolerances. I think the staff need to be trained on this, as there are more and more people with intolerances and things like that can be annoying. I told her that I have a histamine intolerance and that I can't tolerate wine or vinegar, and balsamic vinegar is one of them...! As it also contains grapes, if you listen carefully you should be able to deduce that!! I also told her that I can't tolerate tomatoes, but there were still tomatoes on the fish and the salad with balsamic vinegar... The next salad came without anything, even without oil. You really can't eat it and there should always be an alternative for people with intolerances, you can also put yogurt on top, which at least tastes better than nothing. Or cream from the baked potatoes or something similar. I had to learn how to deal with that too and I think restaurants should be prepared when even we in the nursing profession are trained for it and there are more and more people who suffer from gluten/histamine and other intolerances!!! Which can be dangerous, especially with histamine!! That's why I would like the staff to know about it. And that there are alternatives for people with intolerances! The fish, the zander, was okay but it was very fatty because of the butter and it could have been made with less fat. The mashed potatoes were okay! But since we have been in Amberg and other towns for 5 days, it can't compete with other restaurants!! We'll give you another chance on your next visit to AM! I would also like to see poultry on the menu!! For anyone who doesn't like meat or beef!

A classic brewery with hearty food and good beer. All in all, highly recommended.

The atmosphere in the tower is certainly good, with a 3.8 rating. Coziness is something else entirely. The staff is very friendly. Our roast wild boar died twice. The second time was in the kitchen. The two slices of wild boar were thin, dry, and as hard as a shoe sole. Stupid as we were, we didn't return them right away. They offered a shot of schnapps as an apology, which was a nice gesture.

We visited the Winkler Bräu based on a hotel recommendation. Unfortunately, the food didn't impress us. Compared to other restaurants, the food still has room for improvement. The taste was okay, but unfortunately, it was lukewarm. We had roulade and Wiener schnitzel with potato salad. There was no side salad. The prices are reasonable, but the service could be more attentive.

Simply a lovely beer garden for relaxing in the heart of the city, with good food and very tasty beer. The Bavarian gin is highly recommended.

We don't need to talk about beer at Winkler, it just fits, especially the Zoigl. Personally, I would have expected goulash to be a little spicier but overall everything was good. The atmosphere is cozy and when the weather is nice there is also a beer garden that invites you to linger.

I would actually rate the ambience higher, but since it is very loud due to the large room, unfortunately only 3 stars. Otherwise really tasty food, good money and very clean.

Ambience rustic and beautiful as you would imagine a traditional Bavarian inn, service very good, the staff very friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious and, above all, large portions. Highly recommended.

Good food, not a long wait until it was ready.

In January I was back in Amberg ... and since a man needs to eat and have some beers too the Winkler Brauwirt was the place of choice for one of the evenings... so here are the findings. Location - inside the old city - on the Untere Nabburger Strasse you shall find it , in the summer they've got also a courtyard where you can sit outside - not the case in January. Very good seating capacity indoors and a "typical beerhouse" look with big tables and lots of wood panels on the walls Service - fast and prompt nothing to complain about ... the waiter was moving fast and the drinks and food arrived in no time. Speaking of food - there were some Bavarian classics on the menu I went for some fish ... deep fried carp as a starter with greens and a dip and smoked char with potatoes and greens as a main course .... both very tasty and nicely balanced dishes , both very good choices. The beers menu is also very solid , from the options I tasted 4 different beers that evening all different and all of those really good - as long as you like Bavarian beer. Prices - very good, from my perspective an excellent price to quality ratio - and you can pay with credit card. Overall a very good spot , for sure I will be back when I'm in Amberg, back for some food and more beers to sample from the menu of Winkler.

Whenever I'm in Amberg, a visit to Winkler is a must. It just feels like coming home every time, both in colder temperatures in the rustic pub and in summer in one of the most beautiful beer gardens. The team is young and committed and always comes up with something new. The dishes taste wonderful, are of high quality and focus on sustainability and regionality, plus a freshly tapped Winkler beer - what more could you want? In addition to hearty Bavarian cuisine, vegetarians and vegans will also find what they are looking for here. The service is quick, very friendly and on the ball. I'm already looking forward to summer again and the fabulous salad with fried chanterelles! It always feels like a little vacation with you. Absolute feel-good atmosphere! Boom, please keep it up!

Strange pricing. During Advent in the beer garden outside, a bottled beer costs €4.50 (ONE bottle of BEER(!)) - there's just a crate of beer sitting outside in the cold that doesn't need any further personal attention. However, if you go into the restaurant itself to get a draft beer in a glass and take it outside, it costs €4.30?! It's just not fun anymore. Nobody needs to come to me anymore with increased costs, inflation and other things. But €4.50 for a bottle of beer that comes from your own brewery is just no fun anymore. The advantage of the matter is that our group was simply satisfied with one or two beers per person in two hours - healthy living.

The service was really good. And the ambience is good too. Unfortunately the food is not my taste at all. Unfortunately only lukewarm, salad extremely sour. I know some people like that. Dumplings really small and I can't describe the sauce, but I scraped it off the dumpling as best I could. Others probably think it's great, but unfortunately I don't. Was my third attempt by some distance. But now that's enough. The prices, especially the salad, are not cheap.

There was just a bit too much going on for me....😉

I like being here and especially to be found there on Sunday lunchtime. In the summer, the beer garden dream.

Prices a little more expensive than in the neighboring restaurant, but very good cuisine. I enjoy going there on Sundays, even if you have to accept sharing a table with strangers if you're alone and there are a lot of reservations. But never mind, the food makes up for it. In summer the beer garden is very pleasant.

A group of 30 people visited the “Winkler Bräuwirt” on a Sunday and had lunch there. The service was excellent. Quick response to requests. Everyone's food was brought to them at a time. For 30 people - without pre-order! - very remarkable. The taste is very good and the portions are large for “normal eaters”. Price performance top. Highly recommended for excursion groups with a timely program.

Today I had a schnitzel with potato salad. The schnitzel itself was incredibly deliciously seasoned and the portion was absolutely sufficient.... BUT THIS POTATO SALAD... A poem! Dear kitchen team, dear managers, whoever made this potato salad deserves a medal! Huge compliment to the kitchen! Next time I'll order potato salad as the main dish and schnitzel as a side dish. THE BEST POTATO SALAD I HAVE EATED IN A LONG TIME. Even grandma's can pack it. I'll definitely be back! Keep it up.

I haven't been to you for a long time and I'm immediately pleasantly surprised at how cozy and beautiful it is! The waitresses are super quick and friendly and the food is proven to be good! Always worth a visit again.

So far, as a Cologne resident, I have always been very happy in your beer garden. As always, the food was good to very good. Unfortunately, the service was poor on my last visit. Sitting alone, I was hardly served. Your East Asian service force was a disaster. Instead of a pint of beer, I only got half a beer. Sauce totally slipped on the plate because it took over 5 minutes to bring the food to the right table. If I come again next year I will unfortunately have to insist on a different service person.

Been here a few times and the last one (Aug 24) was the worst. Service is good, beer is ok but food am afraid it just won't do! It was bad in so many ways that it is almost pointless to describe them. Worst of all, prices are over the head with a curry wurst at 12 euros, they have lost the plot!

Wonderful beer garden to sit in.

There was live music yesterday. The hut was full. Yesterday everything took a while, but the staff was consistently friendly, even though they really had to work hard. The food was good, the price was ok but unfortunately a lot was already out at 7:30 p.m. The atmosphere was great. ☺️ oh yes and the beer is of course very tasty and the beer menu is varied.

First of all: the food was very good. But the prices are very overpriced without a side salad. Unfortunately the service left a lot to be desired. We sat at the back entrance to the beer garden. After us came guests who sat down in the middle of the beer garden. These were served immediately. Since we still hadn't been served after 20 minutes, we asked the waitress to serve us. Not even an apology came. We also had to get the waitress to pay. Our table was simply never noticed. Unfortunately we were very disappointed with the service.

The ambience appears clean and has plenty of space. The yard was a pleasant size. We had an army meeting there and paid p.p. €25 for one dish, excluding drinks. The food was good but definitely not worth the money. The soft drink has almost no carbon dioxide. We also wanted to take the food with us and had to pay extra for the plastic packaging. The portion for cheese spaetzle was definitely too small. There were no menus on our tables so I think we paid double. There is little parking in the area

On Sunday there were five of us in the Winklerbräu beer garden. First of all, the staff was super friendly, nice, quick and attentive, 10 points for that. When you enter the brewery you will find a pleasantly furnished brewery 5 points. When we entered the beer garden, which is in a beautiful location, we were shocked. Unkept gravel, a mess of tables, some torn umbrellas. The grill station is totally dirty 1 point. We actually wanted to leave again. Then the food, roast pork with ready-made sauce and soggy dumplings, roulade totally overcooked. Pretzel dumplings dried out during sauerbraten. There are only 2 stars for that. What visitors couldn't complain about is the portion size, which is enough to fill you up. The selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes is also good. So please improve the quality of the food and prepare the beer garden, then next time there might be something. more points.

The beer garden certainly deserves 4 points, nice ambience, service was very friendly and quick. Since I love curry sausage with fries, I had to order one. I was very disappointed with what was served here. The Wurdt was very small and not hearty, I couldn't tell whether it was home-made fries. And for an incredibly high price of over €11. Since you can get what I consider to be the best curry sausage for under €9 in a very attractive beer garden (great innyard) on the same street, I have to rate the price/performance ratio with 1 point.

A wonderful beer garden with a very extensive menu with an excellent menu. Also for vegetarians and vegans. Very good and tasty food. As everywhere else, the service depends on the staff and ranges between good and very, very good. Depending on the weather and time of day with sunny and shady spots.

Very tasty price are not cheap but it's ok. It was busy when we were there, which is probably why it took longer. We were thrilled with the service, no matter what we asked, he knew everything. He could even tell directly about the ice cream inventory.
