Cozy and large restaurant with a good selection of dishes. The portions are also decent, so even good eaters will be full. What bothered me a bit was the inability to reserve in advance on a Sunday evening. Instead, we stood in line in the entrance area for a few minutes until we found a place to sit for three people. When we arrived at the place, we found that we had been assigned a cozy corner and that the waitresses were without exception friendly, quick and competent. We like to stop there again when we pay a visit to the beautiful St. Wendel.

The Café Journal in St. Wendel impresses with its cozy atmosphere. The warm wooden interior, particularly the rustic wooden tables and wood-paneled walls, combine with dim lighting to create a welcoming environment. The menu offers a nice variety, from classic dishes to appealing vegetarian options. It's great to see that so much emphasis is placed on a plant-based diet, even in a more classic café. This shows that gastronomy is also developing in this region. The positive experience is rounded off by the extremely friendly and attentive staff, who always strive to make guests happy. However, the prices are slightly above average, which somewhat detracts from the overall impression.

Going to a restaurant alone turned out to be a bad idea. I'm in town for work and after a long journey I was looking forward to a little snack and drink among people. Although there were relaxed tables available everywhere, I was seated against a wall in the far corner. The table slightly next to me was obviously reserved. After 2 people had already ordered a drink, the group apparently became larger than expected. Until then, no problem at all... I offered to sit one table forward to make some room and have more space myself. That was rejected. While I was placing my order, another employee came and interrupted as if I wasn't even there or unimportant as an individual. When my food was served, the table that was in front of me was pulled past my table in order to enlarge the other one. Unfortunately, the candle at my table had gone out due to the whole situation. I looked in my bag for a lighter, which the employee noticed. I was hoping he would turn the light back on, but instead he took the candle, put it on the edge of the table and said it was no problem... I have rarely felt so incredibly bad. I ate quickly so I could get out of here quickly got up to ask for a new seat so I could finish my drink. This was kindly granted to me. But this candle on this table also stayed out….

Been there for the first time and completely satisfied. Friendly staff and good food, even on a budget. For the children there is also an extra menu to color in. TOP.

A really nice shop that I have been visiting regularly for years. Now, unfortunately, a not so positive review follows, as there has been a lot of mining here... Prices were raised extremely long ago - ok, completely legitimate. However, a price increase should not be accompanied by a parallel reduction in quality. 🙄 I've been eating Russian salad for years. The portions have definitely become smaller, which others have already confirmed... Unfortunately, we had to mention this last time because we weren't full. The waitress was very friendly and gave us a small portion - plus point for that! However, the amount can and should at least be maintained for a €19 salad... Too bad. 😔

(Onions were forgotten at the Steak Journal, the sauce was forgotten at the Rahmschnitzel, the sauce was forgotten, Wiener Schnitzel came. Small chocolate cake was ordered with vanilla ice cream, chocolate ice cream arrived) with the drinks Unfortunately, the service with the googly eyes was hopelessly overwhelmed. I haven't eaten such a bad schnitzel in years. Café Journal used to be a guarantee of good food. What we had to eat there last week was anything but good. The schnitzels were too thick (convinient) and also too thickly breaded. The breading wasn't crispy even where there was no sauce on it. The sauce was definitely not homemade. The mushrooms in the cream sauce were good, but the pepper sauce tasted old and rancid. The fries were good. The fried potatoes, however, were very greasy and warmed. You can taste that! The only good food was the salad with the tried and tested ready-made sauce. And the service was very friendly. From conversations with friends and acquaintances, I have now learned that you should probably only eat pizza at Café Journal. Very unfortunate.

I arranged to meet a dear friend and we decided on the journal. Was a very good choice. The best pizza I've ever had 70 years of life. The ratatouille with sweet potatoes, also recommended. The creme brulee with one delicious flamed sugar crust. I'll definitely come back. Even if I have to travel specifically from Mainz.

Very nice, cozy restaurant. Rustic and nostalgic furnished and decorated. The decor changes seasonally, both inside and out. Dishes incredibly delicious. Whether it's the pizza variation, the homemade meatloaf or the fitness salad, it tastes really good and you'll be full too. Great value for money. Staff super nice and accommodating. I come here often and so far it remains my favorite on Schlossplatz.

Very nice restaurant with lovingly humorously designed seating on the market square in St. Wendel. Always good food, from the pizza to the salad, everything here is fresh and recommended. One of the top addresses in St. Wendel in summer, but you can also make yourself comfortable inside.

We had mussels with tomato sauce, fries and herb baguette. Also available with white wine or cognac sauce, an absolute recommendation. (Additional information is also available if necessary) These are currently available on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I wish you bon appetite. Service was top as usual.

The Cafe Journal is the place to stop in St. Wendel city center. Unusual dishes, seasonal specials in gudd Saarland, extremely nice staff, great ambience seasoned with funny cartoons from the daughter of the house - simply gudd.

We were there on Monday afternoon. The service was very good, courteous and friendly. Of the two dishes, everything was good, except for the schnitzel. Due to the hardness/strength, this must have been prepared at least 2 days before - a shame.

Eating well there for years... until today, Sunday 9/8/24 - a real disaster 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 - 2 x Apperol Spritz = nothing special / not a good mix - Pizza garlic = abnormal taste - Glass noodle salad with chicken = no taste at all - pizza bread gratinated = far from tasty... Ordered coffee = what came was filter coffee... Service was very hard - the chef (if that was a chef at all 😱) certainly not today - thank you, we won't be coming back 🙈🙉🙊

The food was much better. Lettuce is already brown on the edges and partly wilted. Fries are fatty and anything but crispy. Staff is cheeky, the customer knows rightly because he was sitting at a table that hadn't been completely cleared away. Customer was served reluctantly. Embarrassingly, I overheard this impudence from the next table and felt embarrassed. In any case, I won't go there anymore. It's a shame, it's gone backwards, but there are still many very good restaurants in the area where you can get good food with friendly service.

It's very nice to sit here and there are a lot of places (both inside and outside). The food is always really tasty and the selection is good. The drinks menu also leaves almost nothing to be desired. The service is almost always friendly and courteous. The prices are reasonable and the portions will fill almost everyone. One of the things I can recommend in Restaurant Journal is the pizza, as it really tastes different than in other restaurants. There are always great new dishes on the special menus, which is why every visit is special. I can recommend the restaurant to anyone who likes to sit together with good food and good drinks.

Was there at lunchtime today. Nice atmosphere, excellent service. It didn't take very long for the food to arrive. I chose the pepper cream schnitzel with fries and salad. Overall, everything wasn't bad, but the salad (unfortunately like most people) wasn't mixed through before serving, the dressing was just on top and the pepper cream sauce was unfortunately a bit bland apart from the colorful peppercorns. But as I said: overall not bad.

Super cozy restaurant with several levels, lots of wood and a top price-performance ratio. There is actually something for every taste here. The portions are plentiful and the staff always tries to make the guest comfortable. Cutting pizza? No problem. An extra plate? Gladly. Pack something? Immediately. The prices are very fair and the ingredients are almost always fresh. Alone, as a couple or with friends - you should stop here.
