As part of the Art in Prison exhibition, we regularly stopped by the old prison restaurant and tried out the great menu!!! Beef tartare is highly recommended, as is the prison sandwich. Best value for money/drinks great and very important! Warm, courteous service.

You can sit comfortably in the restaurant and the atmosphere of the former prison also had its charm. Even though we came by spontaneously with 9 people, a table was provided for us to fit all of us. The service was very friendly and took good care of our English-speaking guests. The food tasted pretty good. I can recommend the prison sandwich!

Our visit to this restaurant was full of ups and downs, and it's not easy for me to give a clear recommendation. The food: The culinary highlight of the evening was the well-prepared tartare, which you can put together yourself from several components. I would also like mustard & soy sauce, then the dish would be perfect. The tasty meat patty with an excellent sauce was also a positive accent. However, the potato salad was too cold, which spoiled the overall experience a bit. A few degrees more than refrigerator temperature would also make the dish flawless. Unfortunately the truffle tortelloni were out, but the gnocchi as an alternative was acceptable, although a bit too soft and not salty enough, but the latter could easily be compensated for. The service: Service was average, with a slightly longer wait for drinks, but still acceptable. However, the checkout process was unreasonably complicated, resulting in unnecessary delays. The waiting time for the food was over 60 minutes, and the different serving times for guests with comparable orders remained inexplicable. The faux pas: A serious criticism was the lack of child-friendly options on the menu. A potato dumpling with sauce was offered, but unfortunately the affected child only eats noodles and not soft potatoes. Children aren't easy, but it's a shame that the lack of simple durum wheat pasta has led to the problem of feeding a child. Unfortunately, a schnitzel that wasn't 100% cooked through and the inadequate response to the complaint changed the mood that evening. Based on the degree of doneness, the schnitzel could have been eaten, but compared to all the other schnitzels, one of them was quite mushy. Maybe in the rush it wasn't dried properly enough, too thick or whatever. Actually a small matter that could have been easily sorted out with an apology and a small dessert on the house. Instead, the landlady explained to us in an unfriendly manner that everything was 100% okay with the schnitzel. Nevertheless, €5 in cash was then thrown on the table in a humiliating gesture and the normal billing was demanded. In my opinion, this way of dealing with criticism is unprofessional and unacceptable. For me it was a moment of extreme shame. I don't really want to experience that when I go out for a nice meal. The conclusion: Despite a generally appealing ambience and promising ingredients and cuisine, our last visit left a bitter aftertaste. Of course, not everything can always go smoothly, but at €26.50 for a schnitzel you can expect that criticism will be handled better. Overall, it seems as if the kitchen is sometimes overwhelmed, and a revision of the combination of dishes (e.g. schnitzel with potato salad instead of fried potatoes) could help. The lack of insight when it came to complaints was particularly disappointing and means that we will avoid the restaurant for the time being. I hope that the operator takes the feedback to heart.

The food was very good, but the service was very slow. It was busy and there was only one server, actually there should have been at least two. As a result we didn't get a second round of drinks and left. When we left, the cookies in the lobby appeared to be for guests. Apparently it didn't depend on which employee saw you, because one employee grabbed cookies and tongs from one of us and told us that they weren't for guests. Very rude, due to the slow service this would have been a 3 star review but the cookie incident threw us off. I hope they can add more staff for a full restaurant and maybe not display cookies in the main lobby where guests stop by.

Had a great time eating and having some drinks. Sadly the elderly couple seating next to us that had no server come back to them, from the time of dropping the menus off for about 15mins. Had to get up and walk to search for the server to order drinks. As we were told by the server, she (the server) was the only serving for the entire restaurant/wine bar. Sad!! Then, as we leave from having great food and for drinks. Should say drinks that we ordered, that actually came to are table. As you leave, you see in the video where these tasty looking cookies are located, I was taking one for my friends and I. Out of nowhere like a thief in the night COOKIE KAREN (old lady that works here sadly) comes to yell at me for taking a cookie that I was told I could have after spend a good amount of money. Then, snatched the tongs out of my hand and hurting my finger that was previously injured. All I can say is watch out for COOKIE KAREN.

We had a private Christmas party at the Old Prison in December. The food was really great, as was the service. However, we were ripped off in the final bill. People who were not present due to illness were charged. The boss justified the amount by saying that he had to display goods. However, the dishes were available on the entire normal menu. If we had come regularly - without a reservation - he would have had to calculate the same. For this reason, I cannot recommend the Old Prison. I spoke to the boss, but he wasn't willing to compromise. We won't be coming back!

We have often been to the Altes Prison wine bar for both food and a drink. So far, always satisfied, especially because of the ambience. Yesterday we were turned away very rudely by a lady at the entrance because we just wanted something to drink. “We are a restaurant!” The restaurant was empty. Big disappointment! That's not how you treat regular guests! That's really a pity!

The outside area is fantastic, you feel like you're on vacation. We only had an aperitif, which the boss obviously didn't like; in any case, she didn't seem very happy about it.

We will definitely come here again to eat. The atmosphere is definitely worth a visit for a drink. Most beautiful place in Freising so far.

Ich war nun insgesamt zwei mal hier. Sowohl zur italienischen Karte, als auch danach. Die italienische Karte fand ich schon interessant.. knapp 10 Vor- und Nachspeisen, aber nur fünf Hauptgerichte (lediglich Pasta+ das klassische Sandwich) welche auch nichts vegetarisches umfassten. Soweit so gut. Bruschetta war wirklich lecker. Die Linguini mit Ragout di Manzo (Soße Bolognese für 18€) fand ich dann preislich schon etwas zu hoch. Beim zweiten Mal gab's dann Linguini mit Black Tiger Garnelen… 2-3 zerkleinerte Garnelen mit 4 Gabeln Pasta, welche in Öl und Wasser schwammen. Da schlug die Emulsion in der Küche wohl fehl…. Der Teller war dann nach Kurzem leer, der Hunger blieb. Wirklich schade bei dem Preis. Rundum gesagt: Ambiente und Personal super. Speisen und v.a. Preis/Leistung leider verfehlt.

Die Bedienung war sehr aufmerksam, dass Essen (Nudelgericht) aber leider etwas fad. Wir saßen im sehr nett gestalteten Innenhof, leider muss dort irgendwo ein Gulli o.ä. sein... Der Geruch der immer mal wieder rüber geweht kommt, ist (gerade beim Essen) unangenehm.

Ich schreibe ja selten Rezensionen, aber hier ist es mir wert eine zu schreiben. Sehr gutes Essen, Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis stimmt, nettes Personal und teollles Ambiente. Zudem haben sie eines meiner Lieblingsbiere das Trumer Pils. Sogar meine Eltern haben lobende Worte gefunden, was selten vorkommt! Gerne wieder!

My husband walked past and the smelled pulled at him. Two weeks later he was still stuck on wanting to try this restaurant. We finally made it over and it was worth the wait! Amazing food! We had a steak sandwich (with a fancier name) and and roast beef plate. Both are with ordering and we fought for last bites 🤪. The service was also wonderful and the local is beautiful. We will be back soon!

Wir waren auf einen Absacker dort und haben uns zu einem Kaiserschmarrn hinreißen lassen. Der und der Wein war sehr gut. Die Bedienung war unglaublich freundlich, so dass wir sicher bald auf ein Abendessen wiederkommen.

Nettes Lokal mit guter Weinkarte

Es gab einen Pächterwechsel und nach Corona war dies unser erster Besuch. Der Innenhof sehr einladend, aber aufgrund des Wetters haben wir uns für den Innen- bereich entschieden. Sehr ansprechendes Interior, die Speise- und Weinkarte über- sichtlich (positiv gemeint) und von guter Qualität (Salatplatte mit gebratenen Steinpilzen). Freundlicher Service. Gerne wieder.

Stilvolles gemütliches Ambiente, welches einen in angenehme Stimmung bringt. Untermalt mit Musik, die es versteht sich wohl zu fühlen. Geschmackvollste Gerichte zu fairen Preisen. Einfach spitze.

Das Essen hat sehr, sehr gut geschmeckt. Und der toll dekorierte Innenhof vermittelt an einem lauen Sommerabend wirklich ein kleines Stück (mediterranes) Urlaubsfeeling. Nette Bedienung. Hat vielleicht alles etwas länger gedauert, lag aber sicher auch daran, dass es gut besucht war. Insgesamt ein rundum schöner und leckerer Abend.

Leckeres und hochwertiges Essen, so wie Getränke. Wohlfühl Ambiente mit Liebe zum Detail und ein tolles neues Sonnensegel, das alles offener und gleichzeitig das Lokal wie ein Geheimtipp wirken lässt. Dann noch alles vom freundlichen und aufmerksamen Personal abgerundet. Wir gehen immer wieder gerne hin. 😊

Wir waren sehr enttäuscht, weil das Essen vollständig ungewürzt war. Die sicher mit viel Mühe hergestellten Ravioli waren komplett geschmacksbefreit und das Roastbeef mit Bratkartoffeln ebenso. Da half auch kein Nachsalzen. Und wir sind keine Salzfreaks! Wegen einer anderen Angelegenheit haben wir die Wirtin angesprochen, die sich nicht einmal die Mühe machte, uns nur eine Sekunde Aufmerksamkeit zu schenken, beantwortete unwirsch und sehr unfreundlich. Sie schaute uns noch nicht einmal an und gab uns das Gefühl, das wir mehr als stören. Sehr schade, die Weinstube war einmal eine regelmäßige Anlaufstelle für Treffen mit unseren Weinfreunden. Na, dann gehen wir halt woanders hin. Einen Punkt gibt es lediglich für die freundliche Bedienung. Alles andere ist leider nicht empfehlenswert!

Das Knast-Sandwich war ein richtiges Geschmackserlebnis - süß, sauer, würzig und einfach sehr gut zusammengestellt. Dazu ein schönes Ambiente mit netter Bedienung. Zahlung nur Bar möglich.

Das mit Abstand schönste Café/ Restaurant in Freising. Tolles Ambiente im Außenbereich sowie im Gewölbe des Innenbereichs. Schönes Dekor und herzliche Angestellte laden zum Verweilen ein. Ein Besuch in dem ansprechend gestalteten Lokal im alten Gefängnisgebäude lohnt sich auf jeden Fall.

Ich bin kein Weinexperte, aber das Essen ist wirklich sehr lecker. Auch für Vegetarier werden tolle Gerichte angeboten. Besonders schön ist auch das Ambiente im Biergarten, hier fühlten wir uns stets wie in den Urlaub versetzt. Das Deutsche oft nicht die kinderfreundlichsten sind ist ja bekannt und daher werden wir wohl die nächste Zeit leider trotz allem nicht mehr kommen, da wir seit kurzem Nachwuchs haben und es uns so vorkam als wäre das nicht wirklich gern gesehen. Die Käsespätzle werde ich vermissen :-(

Der Innenhof ist eine Perle die man in Freising nicht erwartet. Man fühlt sich hier wie im Urlaub. Auch innen ist alles mit viel Liebe eingerichtet und dekoriert. Man wird super lieb Empfangen und bedient. Das Essen ist qualitativ hochwertig und super lecker. Gute Weine oder andere Getränke runden das Konzept ab. Alles in allem sehr weiter zu Empfehlen. Meistens gut besucht, deshalb vorher lieber reservieren.

Leckerer Schokoladen 🍰 mit flüssigen Kern dazu gab es Weinsorbet mit Waldbeeren und Zimt. Gemütliche Atmosphäre. Schöne Dekoration.
