Great on the terrace in summer...food is delicious, breakfast buffet could be improved

Sitting on a sunny Monday afternoon with ten friends on the terrace overlooking the Rhine and the sound of chugging boat engines was simply lovely. The cold and hot dishes and drinks were all delicious and well-priced. The staff was very friendly and prompt. The location is highly recommended.

It's okay to sit there, the service is okay too, but it's not good enough to deserve more stars.

A great location with a fantastic view. The interior ambiance is pleasant, perfectly suited to the setting. The service staff is very attentive without being intrusive – very pleasant. The food and drinks are well-priced; there's really nothing negative to say. Parking is easy, there's a playground next door for the kids, and there's even a beer garden if you prefer a more casual setting.

Yes. Again and again. Buffet for a 75th birthday with 40 people. It was simply fantastic.

The view of the Rhine is beautiful, but the restaurant has seen its fair share of cleanliness. If it's uncomfortable to touch the menu or something crawls around in the rolled-up napkin with cutlery (this can happen if it's stored outside—but as a restaurant owner, you know that).

The liver wasn't particularly good. Relatively tough, and quite burnt in places.

The parking situation is okay. Paid parking is nearby. With luck, it's a minute away, otherwise it's 3-5. The location is great. If you sit outside, you can see the Rhine. The ambiance is okay. Neither overly pretentious nor sober. Drinks and cakes to go are available outside at the window. Inside, you can enjoy breakfast and hot meals, cakes, and desserts. The prices are just about okay, considering the quality and location. The staff are friendly, sometimes rushed, but overall okay. Recommended for a drink on the Rhine.

It's a quiet and beautiful spot for a walk or picnic along the Rhine River. You can even dip your feet in the water, and some people were even swimming. The cafe offers a variety of snacks and drinks while watching the sunset. There are good breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. The pizza was a bit hard, but we didn't like it much. There's also a mobile ice cream vendor. Parking is free for four hours. It's usually full in the evenings.

I'm shocked by the way the restaurant is run, the hygiene, and the way the guests are treated, who even pay for it. -My experience with my companion early in the morning at breakfast.- The Wacht am Rhein is just opening its doors. It's still a bit chilly, so we'd like to enjoy the first rays of sunshine with the fresh air. But we were wrong! Because we're not allowed to 😳 ONLY THESE! NOT there! Excuse me!? No, not there, yes here! The short and sweet answer 🥸 Well, now we're here and we're submitting... Off to the "breakfast buffet"... What is this!!!? It doesn't have much to do with "breakfast" for me!! At the buffet, we find salads and salad dressings that are surely already ready for lunch, but for breakfast!!?? Where can I find the breakfast buffet?? Across the aisle, there's a platter with a somewhat meager selection of sausages, a bit of salami, and a plate of slices of cheese. No ham, no salmon, or a boiled egg. Something indefinable about a fried egg makes me shudder. The fruit shows us a few slices of orange and lemon! What for??!! Two slices of cheese and a beer-cured ham give me hope that I can at least make something acceptable to eat. My companion finds a yogurt, but later, out of sheer disappointment, she leaves it at the table. We've lost our appetite for a good breakfast. Well, now we're sitting here and at least enjoying the view of the Rhine river 😅... We'll probably indulge in that... We then find some honey and butter and return to our proper seats... On my plate are 1 croissant, 1 roll, 2 slices of beer ham, and 1 slice of honey and 1 slice of butter. Enjoy! But what is this!!?? The beer ham has strange edges, which suggests it can't have come from this morning, since we're already here when the doors open, and it's not even hot!!! I don't eat it and dig through my other things... At some point, the server picks up the plate... My companion points out that my lost, single slice of beer ham might actually be enjoyed by other guests, because they're the only ones keeping the buffet platter, the other things company, and usable by other guests... For me, that was a day that taught me I'll NEVER find my way there again... We've had some shocking experiences with this kind of morning gathering... Have fun, those who can handle adventures in other ways and are willing to pay a hefty price for them 😅

Looks great but food is a bit cold

A very nice spot with a view of the Rhine. Unfortunately, food was only available in the restaurant due to a lack of staff. Drinks were available at the self-service kiosk.

A nice place to grab a quick drink or ice cream while walking or cycling. But I wouldn't really recommend eating here. The view of the Rhine makes the ambiance unique in Leverkusen.

I would never come here even if they pay me

You just want fries with currywurst, but that's impossible here. Two different snack bars, and neither of them can manage it. Stupid restaurant! They didn't even come close to us; we had to search for them. No recommendation... 😮‍💨

Superb view! But first of all, it's incredibly expensive! Secondly, we were there as a family and had several rooms. After our visit, we all had fleas, so we had to cut our vacation short! No apology! No compensation! Simply terrible service...

Great location and good food. The staff is very friendly and on the ball. It's nice that you can sit outside and look out at the Rhine. Just stopping in and having a drink is also great.

The food didn't taste good at all

Very nice location! Unfortunately, the food is just run-of-the-mill and completely unloving. Ready-made sauce with third-rate mushrooms from a jar... what a shame!

The view is really beautiful, the food was loveless, heartless and tasteless, nothing fresh. The waiter was attentive and nice, but we had to draw attention to ourselves. I think the owner is cutting back on staff at this time of night, which is the wrong thing to do in our opinion. With such a beautiful view, you could make an effort and not serve food that is so loveless and bland and just canned mushrooms. For €44 for two people, you'd expect better. There was turkey schnitzel with mushroom sauce and macaroni with chicken, both a solid €4 for us. The Coke Zero was already out of carbonation. Next time I'll just have coffee and something to drink, then I think the concept is right. What a shame.

Review: Wacht am Rhein, Leverkusen During our visit to Wacht am Rhein in Leverkusen, where five of us were together, we unfortunately found that both the service and the cuisine still had a lot of room for improvement. The wait staff seemed unmotivated, and it seemed as if each guest was an additional burden, which wasn't unfriendly, though. After placing our order – about €20 per person – someone finally came to our table with a smile and put us in a good mood, which left a positive impression. The dishes we tried offered mixed experiences. The spare ribs were okay, while the green tagliatelle with salmon and shrimp were disappointing. The over-seasoned sauce made it almost impossible to pull a single noodle out, and the delicate flavor of the salmon and shrimp was lost in the process – a real shame! The roast pork was excellent on its own, but it was accompanied by a very thin sauce that was more like a broth than a spicy sauce. The reheated boiled potatoes were particularly disappointing; they unfortunately didn't do the dish justice. I would recommend the chef improve his skills at a culinary school. I would like to highlight the hamburger, which was clearly prepared according to our instructions and turned out well. The kitchen team seems to have the right instinct here, and perhaps they should focus on that. Overall, I find that the establishment has significant deficiencies in the kitchen, and the service also urgently needs to be improved. The many negative reviews we've seen confirm this impression. It's a real shame, because the surroundings of the restaurant are beautiful and deserve more. 'Unfortunately, no star.'

I celebrated a wonderful milestone birthday here. It couldn't have been better. A wonderful ambiance, good food, and excellent service. The owner, as well as his entire team, is a very friendly, relaxed restaurateur who makes you feel like you can express your every wish and supports you in everything your heart desires. We celebrated exuberantly all night long and danced into a beautiful summer evening. "Party with a view." From the very next day onwards, many guests contacted me and raved about this unforgettable celebration in this fantastic location. I will cherish this day as one of the most beautiful birthday celebrations I've ever had and would recommend it wholeheartedly. Many thanks to the entire team.

The worst experience I've had my life. First the waiter literally decided my order. When I asked for a espresso macchiato, je replied: OK late macchiato and turned around and didnt even give me a chance to correct him. Brought me something I didnt like. Asked if he can please take it back and bring me what I wanted. Went inside and 30 seconds later came with the same thing but in a small coffee cup. Perfectly obvious he just transfered the coffe to the small cup. I asked him nicely to take it back and instead Ill have a bottle of water because I dont like the kind of coffee he brought me. Instead of being apologetic, he starts lecturing in a condescending and demeaning way that in Germany they dont have what Im looking for. Meanwhile Ive had espresso macchiato twice a day for the past 5 days Ive been here. Turnes his back on me very rudly. I drank my water and when I go to pay he charged me for the coffee I didnt even try. Unfortunately for me I handed him money without understaing what Im paying for. Only realised when I was given the change. Had a 10 minute argument with him about it. He was telling me that here he makes the rules and if you dont like it dont come here anymore. Asked for a manager or the owner and he of course said there is nobody here. I have literally never in my existence been treated nowhere close to this bad in any establishment around the world since the day I was born. What he did was literally stealing. If I didnt have somewhere to be I was thinking of calling the police. Thats how dissapointed and disgusted I was at the treatment I received. After this I shared my experience with my cousin who lives here and he wasnt suprised at all. Told me he was treated badly from this place weeks before and never went back. I wish I asked him before I went. I try to be extremely nice to restaurant and bar staff because I am well aware their jobs are not easy but this was just absolutely disgusting. The owner should be ashamed for having this kind of staff work there.

The food isn't great, but it's ok, the service is ok.

The restaurant is beautifully located, but unfortunately, the service was very inattentive and spoke with such a Cologne accent that it caused communication problems. It wasn't possible to get the sauce on the side for the mushroom schnitzel, so I had to order a regular schnitzel with extra mushroom sauce for an extra charge, which I found quite inconvenient. The king prawns were very tasty and plentiful (see photo), although they weren't deveined and, in my opinion, were absurdly served in a tomato sauce that didn't even come close to the prawns themselves (they were still in their shells) and mainly made eating difficult. I ended up having to go to the bar myself for the espresso, as the waiter unfortunately ignored all our attempts to get his attention. This unfortunately happened several times during the evening. The view from our table by the window is beautiful.

One of the worst schnitzels I've ever eaten. The food arrived in five minutes, and it tasted amazing. The Coke wasn't even carbonated, which is a shame that people are allowed to be ripped off like that.

It's the ambiance that draws you to Wacht am Rhein. The view over the Rhine is truly beautiful, especially in the evening. Unfortunately, we didn't like the food (it seemed like frozen food).

My mom celebrated her 60th birthday here yesterday, and it was truly amazing. The owner is very friendly, relaxed, and accommodating. We danced on the terrace until late into the night. The buffet, and especially the schnitzel at lunch, were excellent. Thank you so much for this wonderful day.

Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ I was honestly very disappointed with my visit to this restaurant. The food was not only bad, but also unappetizing. The selection was extremely limited, and the few dishes that were offered didn't seem fresh. The texture of the food was often inedible, and the flavors were completely lacking. It's disappointing when you're looking forward to a good meal and then receive such poor quality. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant. There are many better options in the area.

For the price of €10.90 for a breakfast buffet and what you get for that, you could actually be quite happy. However, the food gets two stars because of the tarnished sausages they served. Gray and truly unappetizing. The ambiance right on the Rhine is, of course, fantastic. 😀👍🏼 Unfortunately, only a small part of the outdoor area was open, so you could only sit in the shade. The entire sunbathing area was unfortunately cordoned off.

Only the view is okay here. It's a shame not to appreciate such a location. We left because the breakfast buffet was completely substandard and unhygienic.

The atmosphere isn't bad, but the staff are completely unmotivated and the manager downright rude. We asked for an ashtray three times because we assumed it would have gone down the second time. The third time the manager yelled at us as if he had nothing else to do. There were only ten tables occupied including ours. If the place had been full, we certainly wouldn't have asked so often and would have been understanding. Even when we told him that we were just guests and that he should talk to us properly, he gave us a snappy "excuse me and have a nice day" even though we were still waiting for the food. We then canceled our meal and left.

Top location, a very nice place to linger on the Rhine. The service was mediocre to poor. The drinks were well chilled but unfortunately not sparkling, and the second round, which we complained about, was also not sparkling. The food was warmed from a bag and can, garnished with a little something, and ready to serve 😞 totally unacceptable. After we confronted the waiter with our problems, he got rude and walked away and never came back. Another waiter had to take our money. Absolutely not recommending this place. What a shame.

The restaurant is in a great location overlooking the Rhine. The service is so-so, the food is completely unappealing. Open the bag and can, warm it up, and you're done. The ketchup and mayonnaise from the bottle were nicely heated by the 32-degree sun. The drinks were cold but not carbonated. After we got our drinks replaced, the same thing happened again. After we confronted the waiter with our concerns, he left cursing. After asking twice, a colleague took our money. It's absolutely not recommended!!!

Great view of the Rhine. Large restaurant. Plenty of space and high ceilings. The vegetarian pizza was large, well-filled, and very tasty. Pasta with cheese sauce for kids was also delicious and plentiful. And the pollock with potatoes was also great. Everything was excellent. Our youngest child was always running around. It's great that there's so much space there. There are plenty of highchairs, too. There's a playground, a snack bar, and a beach bar on the Rhine. And there are numerous other playgrounds nearby. Perfect for a trip with children. We can't say anything negative. We were there again on June 25th. On Sunday for brunch. Great value for money. The food was all delicious. A bit more salad would have been nice. There were plenty of hot dishes, and all delicious. The meat was tender. There was also dessert, as well as juice. The waiters were very friendly. Top!!

Unfortunately, the Wacht am Rhein is very run-down, and the quality has declined considerably since the brunch. The selection is also limited. Things like cream cheese or Nutella weren't available, making it rather poor for vegetarians. It's not worth the money anymore, and a pot of coffee for €20 is pretty steep. We've been there several times, but today is the last time.

We ordered cocoa and tea, everything was fine and the service was very friendly.

A beautifully located restaurant with a magnificent view. The ideal rest stop for bike tours. The menu is... "I'm sure I'll find something." This time, it was just a coffee to go. There's also apparently a set weekly menu with additional offerings. Absolutely worth it, in my opinion.

But if you want to eat very well, in a great setting on the Rhine, and at a reasonable price, this is the place for you. We were there for breakfast with a group of nine people. The service was very friendly and prompt, and we had our first coffee on the table very quickly. The buffet was extensive and delicious. A classic breakfast buffet with a wide selection, from delicious rolls to various spreads, cheese and sausage to delicious eggs in all variations. The service was attentive, prompt, and friendly. Yes, there is a long terrace with glass panels as wind protection, which doesn't significantly impair the beautiful view of the Rhine and the surrounding area. A very romantic destination in sunshine, especially at dusk... It's also a great place to take a stroll along the Rhine promenade. The paths are also accessible by bicycle, so the restaurant is also easily accessible by bike.

The only nice thing is the place directly on the shore

Here, people are happy to be guests...not. I have rarely seen such bad food... Here, guests are treated like a burden, and it's clear that they aren't welcome. The food is so abysmal, sometimes your stomach says goodbye. The service staff tries hard, but is very unfriendly. I can only recommend everyone to avoid this place.

Beautiful ambiance, very friendly service, very accommodating, and open to special requests, but the food is unfortunately not what it used to be. The portions are far too small for adults. The side dishes, consisting of only 5 croquettes and a thin turkey steak with sauce and 3 medium-sized mushrooms, aren't worth €18. The sauce tastes almost like nothing, and the vegetables in the other dishes had a frozen consistency. A real shame.

We just came here on a Sunday evening. The table wasn't particularly clean, the service was nice but not particularly attentive. The food came super quickly, with hardly any waiting time, which was really positive. My girlfriend had a schnitzel with mushroom sauce, and I had a salad plate with chicken and a baked potato. The schnitzel was okay, but the sauce was anything but tasty and unfortunately lukewarm. It wasn't even made with fresh mushrooms, but from a can, which you can see and unfortunately taste. The fried potatoes didn't seem freshly made either, more like warmed up and much too dark. The salad was solid, the dressing wasn't fresh either and tasted totally bland, unfortunately. It's disappointing to see such a weak performance for such simple food. The view is absolutely beautiful, but for a coffee and ice cream, it's probably the right choice for a cozy evening meal. Not recommended.

Zero stars would be more appropriate. It's a shame that this option doesn't exist. Absolutely not recommended. We came for the lunch buffet on Mother's Day. Since we weren't there right at the beginning, we quickly noticed that the food wasn't being refilled. When we asked if we can get something. The waiter kindly brought it to us from the kitchen, which was already empty. But this was taken back by the manager. The manager cheekily told us not to ask the waiters for something like that. You can't eat the food. I will definitely never come here again and do not recommend this experience to anyone. Absolutely terrible and disgraceful

Disgraceful manager!! The ordered food was snatched out of the waiter's hand and brought back! When I said that the food didn't taste good, he put his hand in my plate and ate it! I have never seen such outrageousness!!!

Apparently you don't need any customers anymore because the Porsche is paid for. You always walk past us for 15 minutes and no service. After you leave you will be quickly asked about what you paid😅 It's a real shame what this store has gone down in the last few years

Wir haben das Mittagsbuffet bestellt. Es empfiehlt sich, einen Tisch vorher zu reservieren. Die Bedienung war eher langsam aber irgendwie haben wir es doch noch geschafft, Getränke zu bestellen. Das Mittagsbuffet besteht aus einer Auswahl an verschiedenen Fleischgerichten, bei denen man manchmal erkennt, dass es sich um Convinienceprodukte handelt. Es gab zum Beispiel Fisch in Sahnesoße, Blattspinat und Püree. Der Püree war definitiv nicht selbstgemacht. Rindfleisch mit Soße, Djuvecreis und Gemüse mit Sauce Hollandaise war lecker, ging aber auch in Richtung Convinience. Eine kleine Salatbar und eine Brokkolisuppe machten das Buffet komplett. Fazit: Für 12,90 Euro pro Person akzeptabel aber natürlich keine Sterneküche. Wir haben aber schon besser gegessen.

Often better food but never worse... Eating is really a disgrace... the same disgusting, terrible sauce out of the bucket for all dishes... The taste of fried potatoes served cold is almost unbearable... Disgusting, almost mushy croquettes that taste like nothing... We let most of it go back...The waiter's question about whether it was tasty was actually a mockery...but he wasn't surprised either... For now we won't go there anymore, if only to drink and enjoy the view of the Rhine.

Unfortunately, the food consisted exclusively of convenience products, which were not even high quality or refined in any way. Slapped it on the plate and out with it. The food arrived within 10 minutes, there were 10 of us. Salad plate consisted almost exclusively of iceberg lettuce, a few carrot pieces, 2 tomato halves, and two cucumber slices, plus baked bread. Cheap yoghurt dressing from a bottle, although I had previously asked whether the dressing was homemade...really outrageous!! The children left the schnitzel with fries...that speaks for itself... No recommendation from me! There are definitely better ones in the area. Save yourself a lot of money...

The three of us sat here yesterday and had a drink in the open air. The guest service is friendly, but the waiting time for our drinks was relatively long. The apple pie tastes okay. Unfortunately, schnitzels are deep-fried and not fried.

A relatively inexpensive breakfast buffet with a beautiful view of the Rhine. Be sure to use the parking disc in the parking lot (max. parking time 4 hours)! It is checked regularly - without a parking disc there is a 20 euro warning.

We had a celebration with 40 people in the tower room and our own terrace with a great view of the Rhine. The grill buffet was very good, food was even added. We had a drinks flat rate for 6 hours, which included all drinks except schnapps and cocktails, including all types of coffee. The service was very prompt and fulfilled all requests to the utmost satisfaction. The boss was also very nice, generous and accommodating, we were even allowed to bring our own cake and schnapps. All in all great and again and again, we have celebrated there in recent years.

Views of the Rhine are always nice. Food is nothing special. Price performance is right. Nice for bike trips.

We were there for dinner for the first time - with a total of 6 people… I had the zander fillet (ordered sauce separately)… it was very tasty, crispy and juicy… The others had liver, cold roast beef, pasta with shrimps, leg of lamb (from the daily menu)… Everyone was very satisfied… Dessert: pancakes and apple strudel… ditto delicious… Waiter was nice and quick. A lovely evening all around :)

We were there on Easter Sunday for the lunch buffet, the food was a complete disaster, nothing was refilled, the meat was fried to pieces, really mushy, the roasting pan where the meat etc. was in was very dirty, a lot of finished products were used here, nothing was really fresh, the ambience with a view of the Rhine was the only good thing about it, but the rest was a mess..., we complained about this to the waiter, but the only reason was the train station, once and never again and then €20.90 per person is a disgrace for what you get

A nice place for cycling and walking with delicious ice cream from the cart. Ships can be easily observed on the shore itself. Lots of opportunities to sit down and enjoy the sun.

Disappointing visit – not recommended I ate at Wacht am Rhein today and was unfortunately very disappointed. The service was inattentive and not very service-oriented. There was no drinks menu, so you had no overview of the prices. The drinks were bottled from plastic bottles from cheap brands - unfortunately you could taste that too. The food itself was extremely greasy, heavily oversalted and overall of poor quality. At €20 per person without drinks, the price-performance ratio is absolutely not justified - especially since children aged 6 and over also have to pay the full price. Overall, not a place I would recommend.

The buffet was in a completely unhygienic condition: smeared containers, leftover food everywhere, and everything seemed untidy and unkempt. I don't expect something like that even in a bad canteen, let alone a restaurant. The food was tasteless, carelessly prepared and absolutely not worth €20.90. For this price I expect quality, cleanliness and at least some attention from the staff - but that wasn't there either. I found it particularly audacious that they showed no interest in my feedback when paying. I politely pointed out the grievances, but no one responded. The boss himself clearly noticed my criticism, but instead of saying something about it or at least showing a sign of interest, he simply looked down and turned away. Such behavior is absolutely disrespectful and unprofessional. Unfortunately you have to give at least one star - but honestly 0 stars would be appropriate here. I will definitely never come back and I can't recommend this place to anyone.

We were there with 15 people and family. Pricing out of this world. Too little selection for the high price. Children aged 7 and over pay the full price and unfortunately the buffet wasn't even suitable for children. We weren't offered a drinks menu, which was unacceptable because we didn't know how expensive the drinks were. The drinks are bottled from discounter PET bottles. Very disappointing and absolutely not recommended.

Not recommended, more reminiscent of the GDR in 1975 in terms of selection, presentation and quality! Unfortunately, vegetarians can't eat anything except rolls and jam and a bit of fruit. Unfortunately very expensive, you wait a long time for service, but the view of the Rhine is great. The food tastes good. But the price-performance ratio is more like 👎

Very nice atmosphere. Someone once took a lot of money into their hands. But the food is absolutely subterranean. I never want to have to eat such a bad deep fryer schnitzel with more breading than meat and dead cooked chicken wings in a pool of oil again. The taste of fat is still on my tongue now. No wonder it was so empty on a Saturday night. It's a shame, a missed opportunity to make a good impression.

Great location, fantastic view of the Rhine from the terrace. Service was friendly. Our cake and latte were rather average.

A cozy place to have something to eat and drink. Staff is nice and friendly and dogs are welcome.
