We had an absolutely perfect visit to Trödler! 🙌 From the service to the food to the entire atmosphere, everything was simply top-notch. The owner was very friendly and took his time with us – we truly felt welcome. The food was fresh, delicious, and prepared with love, and the ambiance at Esslingen Castle made the visit extra special. We'll definitely be back! 👌🍽️🍷

A lovely, rustic restaurant with attractive decor. The roast beef with fried potatoes was excellent. It was cooked to a perfect medium and the meat was of outstanding quality. The fried potatoes were cooked flawlessly, just as you would expect. The pike-perch fillet was succulent and perfectly seasoned. The presentation of the dishes was very appealing. The service was very friendly and prompt. In short: I would definitely return; highly recommended.

We were there for our Christmas dinner this year with 24 people. The restaurant was full, but everything went perfectly – the service, the food, and the atmosphere were simply fantastic. I highly recommend it.

Waited an hour for our food. Seated in a bad room despite empty tables. In a dark and cold room. The waiter said the food would take 30 minutes. After an hour, we still hadn't received our food. We wanted to go to the Christmas market and relied on the estimated time. After an hour, the food still hadn't arrived. When I asked for a nicer table in the warmth, I was insulted. We sat by the drafty door. What a shame. The salad, which cost almost €15 and was a large salad, looked completely unappetizing. Requests like less potato salad or no bread were ignored. The coffee and schnapps offered as an apology were kind. Thank you for that. But it's a shame. The restaurant looks so beautiful, both from the outside and in the truly lovely entrance area. Unfortunately, only select people are allowed to sit in the nicer area. The rest of the restaurant is cold and uninviting.

If you've ever wanted to dine like royalty or enjoy the cozy terrace with its beer garden atmosphere in summer, this is the place for you. They serve traditional Swabian cuisine. Even we vegetarians can find something delicious. The beer is great and the service is friendly. We'll definitely be back :)

A pleasant, atmospheric restaurant with a purely German menu. Beautiful presentation and decor. The pumpkin soup is a 5-star rating; the texture is a bit thin, but the taste is excellent. The schnitzel was a bit dry. The salad and sauce were delicious. The dessert was moderately sweet and the apple strudel was magical, served with ice cream and cream. I recommend it!

Incredibly delicious cheese spaetzle - with high-quality cheese and homemade house sauce. We had the castle plate for two: cheese spaetzle with schnitzel and minced meat, salad, and Maultaschen (ravioli). The portion was good; we're two big men and were very hungry :) We were full and satisfied with the portion and the quality! The ambiance is lovely: the combination of old half-timbered interiors and darker wall colors. Our service was also super friendly. We'd love to come back here again.

The food is excellent and the ambiance is very cozy. Unfortunately, the service left much to be desired. We were four adults and one child. First, three dishes were served, which we had to eat to keep them from getting cold. Only then did the children's dish arrive. And finally, about 30 minutes after the first plates, my husband's meal arrived—leaving him to eat alone. It's a shame, because the quality of the food deserved better-organized service.

We were on the terrace on Saturday, October 11, 2025, and were served by a male waiter. We were shocked and very disappointed when a 50% gratuity was automatically added to our bill without our consent. This kind of behavior is absolutely unacceptable and unprofessional. We will not recommend this restaurant.

I'm from Berlin and visiting Esslingen and can highly recommend climbing the castle steps and visiting the second-hand shop at the castle tavern for delicious homemade lemonade and a half-liter of freshly tapped export beer. Afterward, you'll be refueled for the sightseeing. The food was delicious and authentically prepared in the Allgäu/Swabian style. I had the famous cheese spaetzle with meat and mushroom sauce, and it was delicious. The service was 5* deluxe! The team is very good and works hand in hand with passion. The young waitress provides the best service. Her smile and cheerful energy radiate love and hospitality. Her colleague and her tall colleague were also very friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend this restaurant, this team, and the kitchen. Stop by and visit Esslingen Castle. Afterwards, enjoy a cold drink within the walls of the castle restaurant. Best regards

We celebrated our champagne reception after the civil wedding at the Trödler zur Burgschenke in Esslingen – with a total of 38 people on the small terrace opposite the Kanonenbuckel (Cannon Hill). It was simply phenomenal! The ambiance was unique: the historic surroundings, the beautiful view, and the cozy terrace (with a small archway) created a very special atmosphere. Our guests were thrilled and felt welcome from the very first moment. The service was also outstanding – attentive, warm, and yet pleasantly unobtrusive. Everything ran smoothly, allowing us to fully concentrate on our guests and the special moment. We couldn't have wished for a more beautiful location for our champagne reception. A heartfelt thank you to the entire team – you made this day unforgettable for us!

It's a shame. Based on the reviews, I was actually hoping to enjoy good, home-style food here. Unfortunately, the roast beef turned out to be marbled, mushy in places, and watery and flavorless. The quality was lacking somehow. My wife's pike-perch also had little flavor; everything was a bit watery. To make matters worse, the spaetzle had no flavor either. Unfortunately, we can't give it a good rating.

Lovely atmosphere and great food. I loved the kartoffelgratin mit ratatouille und gemüse, which came with a delicious salad as a side. The service is also a 10/10.

What a pity, jam! We've known this second-hand shop for many years. We had a special relationship with this place because we celebrated our son's baptism there. They didn't want to let our son use the restroom. Absolutely outrageous. We were directed to the public restroom. We had actually planned to eat there. But this mentality doesn't suit us. We'll choose a different restaurant today.

We wanted to treat ourselves to a cool glass of water in this hot weather. The service was very friendly and seated us straight away in the shade. We were then handed the food and drink menus. When I finally got to the water, I felt sick. For 0.75, €6.50, I find it very expensive. Salad with chanterelles cost almost €15. We didn't order any of it and left because of the generally high prices. To think that if you have a restaurant on top of a hill, a bottle of water from the town up on the hill should cost twice as much, I really don't understand. That's a good way to scare people away and drive them away.

We had dinner at the Burgschänke (castle tavern). Since the weather was nice, we sat outside on the castle terrace. From there, you have a view of the castle park – unfortunately, not of the old town. The photo shows the view further ahead from the castle wall overlooking Esslingen. The ambiance in the restaurant is truly wonderful! The food was delicious! The waiters were sometimes difficult to get due to the large number of guests, but overall, everything worked out.

Once at the top, the path leads through the lovingly planted castle grounds directly into the shady beer garden. Whether it's a delicious, freshly prepared lemonade or a cool draft beer from the castle tavern: We are absolutely thrilled with the ambiance, the cool drinks immediately brought to our tables, and the friendliest service!!! 10 out of 10!!! As the moon slowly rises, the fairy lights compete with the starry sky... This historic place is a true gem and is right on our doorstep!!! A heartfelt THANK YOU for the wonderful summer evening!!! WE'LL BE AGAIN!!! For those who prefer to arrive comfortably by bike or car: From the parking lot on Mülberger Straße, it's just a few steps to the most beautiful viewpoint in the city.

A first-class beer garden! The visit was perfect all around. We not only enjoyed the stunning view from the outdoor area, but also the excellent food. Every plate was a delight! Delicious meringue on tap and good food

We went twice and it was even better than the 1st time! #1 Restaurant for schnitzel and spaetzle! We ordered a Hugo Spritz (my new fave) and a large water for bf. Necktar graciously set us up with silverware and immediately served our drinks and was a true professional. But OMG! Our favorite employee was Petrit! He served us the first time and cooked our lunch this time! Wow is all I can say. The schnitzel was perfectly cooked and you get way more meat than most pounded out schnitzels. AND THE SPAETZLE! He sautéed in butter and topped it off with the finest of seasoned bread crumbs! (I'm pretty sure he added some finely grated parmesan) IT WAS FABULOUS! Like couldn't stop eating it! I left there truly completely full but not uncomfortable. (Germany has way better food restrictions than we do) Do yourself a favor and take your time up at the top of the castle and have a drink on the castle terrace and then go inside (or stay outside) and order a beautiful dinner. You wont regret it. AND THE VIEWS!!!...

We were there with a group of 10 people and had made a reservation. The atmosphere is very nice. Unfortunately, the waiters were very unfriendly, seemed completely overwhelmed, and stressed. If we had a special request, they would wave it off in annoyance. I didn't like that. The food was okay, but nothing special. We won't go back.

Ich hatte eine sehr positiven Eindruck von der Bedienung, die sehr freundlich und sympathisch war. Ich muss aber gestehen, dass mir die Käsespätzle mir nicht geschmeckt haben. Achtung: das ist eine subjektive Meinung. Mit hat die Würze und ein spannender Geschmack gefehlt. Deshalb will ich diesen ehrlichen Eindruck auch hier über TripAdvisor mitteilen. In der Hoffnung dass diese "Diffamierung" nicht auch gleich hier gelöscht wird.

We were in our motorhome at the campsite next to the "Burgschenke Trödler" (Burg Inn Trödler). We started the day with a small aperitif. The service was excellent. For this reason, we returned for dinner that evening. I can only tell you what a fantastic evening it was. Despite the storm, it was an unforgettable experience. The staff are incredibly flexible and have their hearts in the right place. We had an excellent meal and felt at home there from the very beginning. When the storm hit, it was all for one and one for all. It worked out perfectly. We certainly won't be there for the last time. Thank you for this unforgettable day. ♥️♥️♥️♥️ Tobias

We had made a reservation in advance as part of a small group and were able to sit outside for a while. Later, the staff offered us a comfortable table inside. We liked that.

Nur die müssen bezahlen die er dann zufällig sieht. Habe kein Problem mit bezahlen für die Toilette, aber dann auf eine freundliche Art und Weise .

From a culinary point of view, the absolute highlight was the Esslinger Pfänle for two: perfectly fried meat, spicy sauces, lovingly prepared vegetables - a real taste explosion! The portion was more than generous and ideal for sharing. You can taste the quality and freshness of every ingredient. The stylish and cozy ambience rounded off the evening. One thing is certain for us: The Trödle is a real insider tip in the region - we will definitely come back!

Cheap taste for exorbitant price. This is punishable. If only it had at least been a nice cappuccino, it should have been treated once. But €5.10 for a cheap cappuccino? Not with me. E-mail remains unanswered, phone call is blocked - advert comes.
