Toro Tapasbar in Karlsruhe

Absolutely lovely owner, the whole team is very helpful, the ambience is unfortunately a bit dirty and there is still room for improvement regarding the Spanish cuisine.

We happened upon this "so-called tapas bar" by chance, as the Italian restaurant across the street was fully booked. The ambiance was minimalist and in dire need of renovation. The service was almost amusing in its ineptitude. The food, apart from the fried potatoes, could be subsumed under the category of "rubbish." For example, the shrimp (minimini) were tasteless, and the dates had no crisps. Etc., etc. The only thing that's formidable is the exorbitant pricing. But here, too, the saying "experience teaches you."

Average quality, prices like those at a Michelin-starred restaurant. The waiter recommends 3 or 4 tapas per person. Considering that the fish tapas cost around €20 each (and the portion size is equivalent to one real tapa), for around €70 per person you're eating dishes that you can get elsewhere for less than half the price. Absolutely not recommended.

Great food in an authentic atmosphere!

I don't know which Toro Bar the reviewers who gave the partially positive reviews here went to, but it certainly couldn't have been the one my wife and I went to on Akademiestraße. We experienced a culinary disaster of the highest order. Mini shrimp that were fried too hot and for too long (completely tasteless) were accompanied by overcooked sardines, which at least tasted of lemon. The croquettes taste better at any motorway service station. The rendered fat from the chorizo was the "highlight." The bread served with it tasted like it had been left over from a bakery where they forgot to put it in the oven first. On top of all that, the price was completely inflated. For us, it was the first and also the last time.

We were very disappointed with the result. Although they were all simple tapas, they were tasteless and lacking any refinement. We know tapas not only from Spain, but also from the Monte Cristo in Baden Baden. And here, there's a world of difference. This is complemented by the unimaginative decor and "disoriented" service. No, this restaurant has little to do with Spanish food culture.

31 euros for a bowl of olives and 6 small sandwiches, a bottle of beer, and a glass of wine. They don't accept credit cards in 2025. They take your ID while you go get cash. The thief isn't me, it's them.

This tapas bar is simply fantastic, and you can taste the quality in the food. The tables are small and cramped, like a bar, but that shouldn't put you off.

I like Spain and was happy to be able to eat Spanish food here in Karlsruhe. So, in short, nice atmosphere but completely overpriced tapas. So I might have a beer or a glass of wine there again sometime, but that's it.

Authentic Spanish tapas in the right atmosphere!

Fine food (highly recommended: octopus gallego), generous portions, authentic atmosphere. There were two of us and we ordered 4-5 tapas, which was more than enough for us. Thanks, hasta la próxima.

At the Toro tapas bar you really have the feeling of being able to enjoy authentic Spanish food. The service is really extremely quick, friendly and accommodating. The evening is a little more expensive, especially if you want to have some choice on the table, but it is definitely worth it. My favorite was the eggplant, which was pickled a little longer. Gladly again!

This is the second time we have been and it is one of our favorite places to eat when visiting. The food is always top notch and the portions are generous. The ambiance was lovely too. We were very lucky to get a table without booking - you need to book!

Very good food, drink and ambience. The price was quite high but it was worth it

Tapas are quite often very expensive in Germany. But almost 20 bucks for a small plate with 8-10 small shrimps... Okeeee!?!?

FDP & No, this isn't supposed to be cheap political bashing - but the party describes the restaurant pretty well. Why? A lot of money for mediocre quality - a company aimed at maximizing profits, just like the FDP dreams of. The restaurant is also expensive for a tapas bar (competitors in Karlsruhe are cheaper) & yet the space has been used to maximize profit and is filled with so many tables that even the waitress barely has room to get through. But she was very nice, even if she regularly forgot our bread order and we sometimes only received our order after our neighboring table (who ordered the same thing after us). Now to the food: The bread, for example, was partly carelessly prepared and looked more like a cheap baked baguette than a high-quality white bread & the other dishes were all rather basic, even the most expensive dish on the menu didn't suit our taste. Here too it seemed as if only the bare essentials were being served without any idea of ​​glitz or extravagance. Paying with a credit card doesn't work either (presumably someone isn't willing to pay the fees) - which is rather unusual and actually part of good manners. Conclusion: For 20-30% cheaper prices it would be a good and fair offer, but it looks like an attempt is being made to squeeze the most money out of the offer, so it's not really surprising that the owner is a member of the FDP . P.S. Rose sellers are allowed in - I think that's generally good and commendable - but given the mass of people, it can sometimes be a little too crowded and uncomfortable - especially if they are very intrusive.

Typical Spanish pub in the middle of Karlsruhe. Everything was great. We would love to come back.

We had dinner at the restaurant yesterday. The service was quite quick and very good. The point is that it's not exactly value for money. We were already aware that meat dishes were relatively expensive, but the fact that we paid just under €18 for a small plate of prawns was pretty crazy. I find an average of €9-18 for small tapas dishes to be quite steep. Another big point of criticism is that you can't pay by card here. Since most people have a debit card, this is a huge problem. Even the table next to us looked in disbelief when he heard that you can't pay with a card here. The point of criticism for the ambience is that I find it strange that several FDP posters are prominently hanging there.

Simply Spanish here! Class. We have reserved and that is also recommended! It was comfortably full and a pleasant atmosphere. The food is super delicious and just like we know it from our vacation in Spain. It is advisable to try the tappas menu across the board and then order your favorites again. We even saw the boss who was diligently helping out!

When you don’t know where to have a nice dinner - go there (but make a reservation in advance to get a table for sure) - we celebrated my birthday in Toro Tapasbar, the owner was extremely warm-hearted and welcoming and service was also very kind. But not just that - tapas were also of a great quality, fresh and tasty. Thanks for having us and I would definitely recommend this place to all people who value enjoying nice food/drinks in a nice welcoming atmosphere. P.S. Martini mixed cocktails were also great, try them out!

All in all, a rather disappointing visit. Because we are not from Karlsruhe, we relied on the good rating here, but in our opinion it doesn't do the restaurant justice. The ambience is very, very simple and is more reminiscent of a pub than a tapas bar. Everything is very dreary and loveless. The service was still the best of all. Now to eat. In German, the price-performance ratio is terrible. We paid €20 for an average large octopus arm, which was lukewarm and tasted like it had been microwaved. The Basque meatballs were bland and the consistency was also strange. The best were the ham and Manchego, although you can't go wrong with them. The bacon-wrapped dates were ok, although they weren't crispy either. It wasn't all bad, but the prices were completely exorbitant. We won't be coming back!

Sehr authentische Tapas. Am besten zu mehreren hingehen und teilen, damit man von allem probieren kann. Es war alles sehr gut, aber vor allem die frittierten Oktopusstücke und natürlich die Datteln im Speckmantwl, die zum Abschluss nicht fehlen durften.

Both waiters were friendly and quick. We liked the atmosphere. The food was tasty. But the prices are far too high and beautifully presented looks different. The photo shows our consumption (only a piece of the fried squid can be seen), plus a wine and an espresso: around 98 euros. What's not possible: clothes and hair smell extremely like kitchen after the visit. My wife had to wash her hair first thing this morning and our jackets and coats are hanging on the balcony to air out in the hope that we don't have to take them to the dry cleaners.

Die Toro Tapasbar ist ein Karlsruhe eine Institution, da kann Gast nichts falsch machen. Wir sind seit Jahren Stammkunden. In dem immer gut besuchten Lokal ist die Stimmung lebhaft und leger. Pures Spanien in Karlsruhe. Eine umfangreiche Speisen- und Weinkarte sowie aufmerksamer Service sind die perfekte Mischung für einen gelungenen Abend. Zwei Auffälligkeiten, die aus einem sehr guten ein perfektes Erlebnis machen: Die Tapas- Preise sind vergleichsweise am oberen Limit und die Abluft in der Küche ist seit Jahren unzureichend, sodass es leider nach jedem Besuch eines intensiven Auslüftens der Kleidung bedarf. Sorry, gehört zu einer ehrlichen Bewertung dazu…

Place in the center of Karlsruhe that offers good - but not exceptional - dishes of Spanish cuisine revisited with an Italian twist. From some details - for example the way in which the jamon is served or the selection of pickled aubergines on the menu - it is clear that there is a cuisine influence from southern Italy, rather than genuinely Spanish. Warm environment that recalls Hispanic atmospheres, the bill is too salty. I wouldn't go back.

Locale nel centro di Karlsruhe che propone piatti buoni - ma non eccezionali - della cucina spagnola rivista in chiave italiana. Da alcuni dettagli - ad esempio il modo in cui viene servito l’jamon o la proposta in carta delle melanzane sott’aceto - si capisce che c’è un’influenza da cucina da sud Italia, più che genuinamente spagnola. Ambiente caldo e che richiama le atmosfere ispaniche, conto troppo salato. Non tornerei.

Ein kleines und feines Lokal. Wenn das Wetter besser gewesen wäre, man könnte denken man ist in Spanien. Freundliches Personal, hilfsbereit und nichts ist zu viel. Findet man heute selten. Mario ist jederzeit gut gelaunt und überträgt es auf sein Personal und auf die Gäste. Der Wein ist immer gut, die Auberginen eine Granate. Leider hat das Restaurant keine Außenbestuhlung und der Abzug lässt zu wünschen übrig ABER …. Tolles Essen, Qualitativ hochwertig und top zubereitet. Der Inhaber sowie das Team super freundlich, alle sind bemüht den Gästen einen tollen Abend zu bescheren. Immer wieder ein Genuss dort zu essen.

It was my first time in a tapas bar. There were six of us. The service was super friendly, asked questions again and again and was attentive. The food was varied and delicious. The portions sometimes seemed small to me. The restaurant is getting old, which on the one hand seems cozy, but on the other hand an update to the toilets wouldn't be bad.

Auch wenn es gut besucht ist und den Eindruck einer angesagten Location macht, ist das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis schon lange nicht mehr okay.

Endlich mal wieder eine authentische Tapasbar. Die Tapas waren super lecker und alles frisch zubereitet. Wir sind auf gut Glück hingegangen und haben noch einen Platz bekommen. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und ebenso authentisch wie das Ambiente. Die Preise sind an der oberen Grenze. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Immer wieder gerne und sehr lecker... die Preise sind mir allerdings einen Tick zu hoch. Aber das ist ja leider mittlerweile fast überall so.

Best Tapas in town. So tasty. The place is always packed, so reservation is obligatory. The only thing I would ask for is better drinks. The wine is okay, beer is nice, but the sangria - of all the drinks you could fail - is just meh.

Waren zu viert dort. Jeder hat etwas anderes bestellt. So hatten wir eine sehr gute Auswahl um möglichst viele unterschiedliche Tapas zu probieren. Jede einzelne war der Hammer. Der Service war total nett und kam immer mal wieder um sich zu erkundigen ob alles ok sei. Der Chef ist sehr sympathisch und kümmert sich ebenfalls sehr lieb um seine Gäste. Ich war da vor Jahren schon einmal und zwar sehr begeistert. Jetzt fand ich die Tapas leider nur ganz o.k. aber für meinen Geschmack viel zu teuer. 60 Euro für vier verschiedene Tapas und zwei Getränke. Das brauche ich nicht mehr.

Nette, kleine Tapas-Bar mit super liebem Personal. Das Essen ist lecker und steht auch recht zügig (trotz extrem vollem Laden) auf dem Tisch. Lediglich das Ambiente, die Lage und die Preise trüben den Besuch etwas, was mich leider zu Abzügen zwingt. Im Großen und Ganzen aber empfehlenswert. Wir kommen wieder.

The moment you arrive to the place you can smell the Spanish flavour. The place is fully decorated as a traditional Spanish tavern. The staff working there are super welcoming and friendly. Given the fact that is a tapas bar, the prices are quite high for such a dish, but most of the tapas are tasty. My top 1 has to be Boquerones en vinagre (not to be confused with the fried boquerones!). I do not recommend the Serrano ham though, you end up paying a fortune for cheap quality ham. Their wine selection seems nice. I would not turn this place as one of my regulars as I do believe it is overpriced, but definitely a good choice when u feel homesick.

Wir gehen immer mal wieder in die Toro Tapasbar. Einfach weil wir wirkliche Spanien-Fans sind, gerne Tapas essen und es in Karlsruhe sonst keine Alternativen gibt. Das Lokal ist auch sehr authentisch mit kleinen Holztischen und -stühlchen, einer großen Bar und großen, offenen Fenster mit Tresen zur Straße hin. ABER: die Preise fühlen sich so gar nicht nach Spanien an und sind unserer Meinung nach auch einfach nicht gerechtfertigt. Es handelt sich ja meist um keine besonders hochwertigen oder teuren Zutaten und die Portionen sind sehr überschaubar. Datteln im Speckmantel zum Beispiel: 5 Stück für den stolzen Preis von 7,90 €. Somit ca. 1,60 € für eine Dattel. Oder die Albóndigas für 9,80 € das 4er-Schälchen. Wir haben noch nirgends 2,45 € für ein kleines Hackfleischbällchen bezahlt. Das alles trübt den sonst positiven Eindruck einfach sehr und führt auch dazu, dass man deutlich seltener zum Toro geht als man es vermutlich bei halbwegs normalen Preisen machen würde...
