Tokio Dining in Stuttgart

It's advisable to make a reservation, even during the week, as it's always very busy, and rightly so. I don't know of any other Japanese restaurant in Stuttgart that offers such authentic dishes. From simple chicken skewers to fermented, slimy soybeans. Add to that super friendly service and a great atmosphere.

In terms of taste, this is one of the best Asian restaurants I've visited. The menu is extensive, with something for everyone. The dishes aren't cheap, but you get great flavor and generous portions. Other good Asian restaurants in the area are similarly priced. It's a nice little restaurant without the usual Asian kitsch. The only downside is the cramped restrooms; they could be bigger! Unfortunately, and this is why I'm deducting points, my companion and I waited almost an hour for our food! What was going on? Had we ordered elaborate dishes that required a long preparation time? Did the noodles still need to be made? Did the rice and vegetables still need to be harvested? And did the livestock still need to be slaughtered? Of course, it was rush hour. And perhaps we were just unlucky. A little attention from the staff, who frequently walked past us, would have been nice. Despite this, we enjoyed our meal.

I visited this restaurant for the first time last night and was immediately impressed. We were a large group, but the service was consistently attentive and friendly. The food arrived promptly and at pleasant, regular intervals. It wasn't all served at once, but gradually, without any long waits. Overall, it was very well organized. The staff were consistently friendly, and the owners also made a very warm impression; they even took photos of us, which was a nice personal touch. The atmosphere in the restaurant is pleasant. While the space is somewhat small, it's not loud or hectic. The food was excellent. The fish, in particular, was of high quality and tasted fantastic. I will definitely be back.

There were four of us, and luckily we were able to reserve a table at short notice. The ambiance was rather cold (everything was white), and the temperature wasn't particularly warm in winter. Our feet were freezing. The appetizers and ramen were delicious, but the sushi was absolutely not recommended! You practically had to search for the fish in the sushi roll; the piece was so tiny. They basically just sell you rice, and for over €10 for six small maki rolls! That's unacceptable! Even the friendly service and the great photos couldn't make up for it. Totally overpriced!

Having to fill out the order form yourself is a bit like a first visit to the doctor. The food (tantanmen) was tasty, even if the noodles weren't exactly homemade. However, the price of almost €22 for a bowl of noodle soup is a reason why we won't be eating here again. A real shame.

After a long time with fond memories, I returned and was utterly shocked by the food and service. The karaage lacked a crispy edge and was oversalted. The seaweed salad was 90% undressed mixed appetizer salad. The sushi was technically abysmal (excessive rice, lumpy, angular, uneven, brown fish bits not removed). The tantanmen was overly sweet and lacked the smooth, sesame texture. The service was unpleasantly rushed. Order slips were snatched away mid-selection. Main courses arrived during the appetizer period and 10 minutes apart. At the next table, a waiter tried to take a guest's phone because they couldn't find the payment method within seconds. All this, including drinks and no tip, for €90 (for two people) – probably the worst value for money of any Japanese restaurant in Stuttgart.

We went here on Friday evening and really enjoyed the food. For sushi, they have lots of different platter options to choose from. I would definitely recommend making a reservation though, otherwise it’s hard to get a table. We had a reservation for 8:30 and arrived a bit early. They gave us an order form to fill in while we waited, which actually worked out great because we could look through the menu properly and decide without any rush. Everything we ordered was delicious. The portions are quite big. I couldn’t finish my main dish, not because it wasn’t good, just because it was a lot! The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially when we asked for recommendations. The atmosphere was relaxed and nice. We would happily go there again!

A very authentic restaurant. The food is delicious and the service is incredibly friendly. You order by writing down your order on a list, as the staff doesn't speak all German fluently, and this works perfectly.

The food was delicious, authentic, and fresh. There's a whole page dedicated to vegetarian and vegan dishes. They even provide an order slip to avoid any misunderstandings. The atmosphere is cozy, with lots of nice things to discover. The service was relatively quick and friendly. The waiter (owner?) took photos of us with his phone, turned them into beautiful hand-drawn pictures using an app, and sent them to me. A lovely idea and a great souvenir! I'd recommend making a reservation if you're more than two people. We'd love to come back!

We stumbled upon this restaurant by chance while craving authentic Japanese cuisine – and what a wonderful surprise! Everything was incredibly delicious, freshly prepared, and very generously portioned. The selection of Japanese whisky and beer is also fantastic! The waiter was incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home. A place we wholeheartedly recommend – for anyone seeking authenticity and pure deliciousness! Thank you so much ❤️

I used to really appreciate Tokio Dining. The food was high quality, the portions were generous, and the prices were reasonable. Unfortunately, this has changed significantly recently. I've noticed a few changes recently: The portions have become significantly smaller, while the prices per dish have increased by about 35%. For example, the takoyaki used to be freshly prepared and served in a fully filled porcelain bowl containing at least five pieces. Now the bowl is only half full, the balls are smaller—and unfortunately, they now seem to have come from the microwave. It's a shame, because the quality used to be much better. The ramen bowl is also significantly less filled than before, and the chashu slices are only half as thick. Unfortunately, my polite inquiry to the staff was not answered—either they didn't understand me or they wanted to avoid the conversation. The seaweed salad, for €8.50, is also disappointing: mostly iceberg lettuce with a few tomatoes and only a little seaweed salad. It was also completely unseasoned. Here, too, the staff showed no understanding. Overall, Tokio Dining has significantly declined in quality and value for money for me. It's a shame – it used to be one of my favorite restaurants, but unfortunately, I can no longer recommend it.

A friendly, family-run Japanese restaurant with a unique atmosphere. Rather than serving a picture of what a Japanese restaurant should look like, you'll experience authentic Japanese life here, even though the space feels more like a lovingly run café. Enough about the space. In my opinion, the okonomiyaki is the must-eat! This dish, somewhere between a cabbage casserole, an omelet, and a pizza, is prepared so incredibly deliciously that it's worth the trip to Stuttgart's east end! But of course, all the other dishes are fresh and delicious too. I just never get around to trying them myself. I have to eat okonomiyaki here ;-)

Fresh, delicious, and friendly service Here, you can embark on a culinary journey of discovery. First, we sampled hot and cold appetizers, and then each of us had a main course. Whether it was fermented beans, kimchi, okonomiyaki, or wonderfully fresh ramen... we're absolutely in love :) We drove over 100 km for this visit and will definitely be back.

The staff don't speak or understand German very well. Orders at our table were randomly assigned to the bills, which, combined with the communication issue, made it a bit difficult. The food is quite good. The udon is delicious, but the fish in the sushi could be significantly more tender.

Soba noodle is very nice, to be honest nice atmosphere too. Great ambience for lunch & dinner. Totally recommended. Our experience was partially ruined because the waiter suddenly asked to take anime photo for us using chatgpt even without waiting for our answer. We did anyway out of politeness. But the story didn’t stop there as he asked for our WhatsApp to send the anime photo. Again without waiting for our answer. He was polite, that’s no doubt. We were taken aback with the whole anime photo situation.

Great taste, very authentic atmosphere

I was here with my family for the first time. The staff was very friendly, even to the children, and accommodated our special requests. The food was delicious, some of the best Japanese food I've ever eaten.

We went for ramen for the first time today. Everything was super tasty, including the gyoza, just great. And for dessert the bonsai - absolutely sweet served in a flower pot with a small spade. I had the pleasure of dining at this wonderful restaurant, and it was an all-around perfect experience! The restaurant is very cozy and inviting, with a pleasant atmosphere. The service was excellent; the staff was extremely friendly, attentive, and always tried to make the experience as pleasant as possible. The food was simply delicious! And best of all: The value for money is fantastic. The prices are more than fair for the quality offered. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back!

We came here with high expectations, but were a bit disappointed. The sushi wasn't particularly tasty and fell apart. We also had to wait a very long time for it. The ramen was good, but neither dish was worth the price. We also ordered a large water, which cost us a total of €83, including over €50 just for the sushi (about 30 pieces). Unfortunately, I have to say I won't be coming here again, because the food didn't really appeal to either of us. It's a bit of a shame, because we really wanted good food and were willing to pay a little more for it. We didn't get full for the money either, which is why I have to give the food one star. The waitresses and owners are really sweet and friendly and do a great job, but the food was unfortunately not up to scratch. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it, except maybe for the ramen.

I couldn’t recommend this place more! The restaurant has a very cosy and homely atmosphere and the staff were very happy to chat with us. The food was absolutely delicious, they had a wide range of all types of alcohol and anything you could want in a Japanese restaurant. The waiter we had(I didn’t get the name, but we spoke about him being from Osaka) could not have been friendlier! A must visit for anyone wanting Japanese food in Stuttgart

We've been there three times. It's a contender for the best Japanese restaurant in town, but the service and friendliness are unmatched. The ramen is very good, but we always come back for the sushi.

Three of us arrived and ordered. Drinks arrived very quickly, but we waited over two hours for the food. The food didn't arrive at the same time for all three people, but rather about 15 minutes apart. The service was also inattentive...

The restaurant is easy to reach by public transport, but relatively small with around 16 tables. The menu was generous, but the order was placed on a piece of paper. Because the staff speaks bad German. The food came quickly. I would have liked wasabi with the sushi. Hardly anything came out of the bottles of soy sauce. It would have been nice if we could have heard appropriate Japanese music instead of the small humming of the ventilation. The food prices were okay. I found the drinks prices a bit overpriced. Conclusion: Recommended!

The restaurant is very easy to reach. Either by car or by public transport. The restaurant itself is very nicely decorated and always very clean. The staff is always polite and friendly. The chef conjures up incredibly delicious food. If you really want to try Japanese cuisine, I can only warmly recommend Tokio Dining.

Was there years ago, not rated at the time. I'll catch up today because I still remember it so well. The food was original like in Japan - and I've been to Tokyo several times, so I have the comparison.

Very tasty food, nice service staff and an overall great restaurant

We were here three times and each time the food was very tasty and the staff was really nice, you felt comfortable! But, and that's why I can only give it 3 stars, we had to wait almost 2 hours for our food on two of the three visits! Last time, the second starter (we had ordered a menu) only came after the main course, which only came after two reminders, and therefore 2 hours after ordering. Furthermore, on all three visits the wrong main course was served first and then we had to wait again for the right meal. Unfortunately, this is very annoying after the third time, which is why we are now looking for an alternative. But if you have a lot of patience, I can only recommend Tokio Dining! And I mean that seriously, because as mentioned above, the quality and the ambience are great!

We were there in the evening with 7 people. 5 people with no experience of Japanese cuisine. 4 people had a menu to test a cross-section of the kitchen, 3 people had 3 courses a la carte. Everyone was very satisfied and we agreed that we had had a good, new experience. Next time we will test sushi more closely and try a ramen. The service was very friendly and attentive. We are happy to have embarked on the experience.

A great selection of authentic Japanese dishes. We always enjoy coming here to reminisce about our vacations in Japan. At lunchtime, there are also a few lunch specials available on weekdays (until Saturday), such as an Ostento box.

Tokyo Dining was a combination of relaxed dining with 5 star food! The Wasabi Ebi Tempura was incredible and the sushi was devine! The service was impeccable! Will be back and highly recommend for groups (we had a table for 9) or date night with your special someone!

This is the most delicious sushi restaurant I've been to in Stuttgart. Other sushi restaurants seem to cater to German tastes rather than traditional sushi, but the sushi here tastes like what you would taste in Korea or Japan. The staff are also very friendly. It is available not only in German but also in English and of course Japanese.

The quality of the food is excellent. However, the service doesn't live up to expectations. Upon seating, the waiter immediately asked for their preferred payment method. With a reservation for two hours, they were asked to leave the restaurant ten minutes before the end of the meal, even though the guests were still eating. In conclusion, the food is excellent and deserves a recommendation.
