Taufsteinhütte in Schotten

We spent the night in the tree barrel and it was something special. In the evening we ate in the restaurant and were again impressed by the cuisine! Compliment! Since we traveled by bike, we were able to park and charge our bikes in a neighboring room.

Super friendly staff, delicious food. We were served very friendly, the staff was very accommodating and helpful. We felt very comfortable and will definitely come back. The good mood was contagious 🫠.

Wonderful atmosphere with very nice staff. The grill buffet is highly recommended ;). We'll be back.

Went for dinner yesterday after making a table reservation on site. After a short wait we were assigned a suitable table. Until then, ok. When we finally got our food after about an hour, we were very surprised that it was apparently not possible to fully cook a 'Taufsteinburger', which then went back and was replaced by an equally undercooked schnitzel. The service person explained that The schnitzel would mutate into a "shoe sole" if roasted for a longer period of time... It might have needed an explanation from the kitchen. It's a shame, because the ambience of the Taufsteinhütte is otherwise very inviting. However, the kitchen is definitely not up to this price range . Sorry!

It was just a wonderful time here. Everything was just right. The dinner and breakfast are particularly noteworthy. Nothing was missing and the quality was a delight for the eyes and palate. At the beginning of October we met a friend for dinner at the Taufsteinhütte. The ambience was very nice. We had pre-booked a table online. We were served very quickly, very professionally and very friendly. The starter salads were excellent, with a perfectly seasoned dressing. Both rump steaks were fried perfectly medium and of the best quality. The herb butter (homemade?) was a highlight!! The fried potatoes as a side dish were also very good. Nice and crispy and not dripping with fat; exactly how good fried potatoes should be. Unfortunately, the third menu (fillet plate with mushroom cream sauce and “Spätzle”) had nothing of the quality of the two rump steaks. The fillets were simply too well done and the spaetzle were simply a disgrace! It's completely incomprehensible to me how you can produce such different qualities from three dishes. Spaetzle, such a simple side dish. In this price range you can also expect homemade spaetzle, or at least good convenience. These spaetzle were underground! Cheap ready-made spaetzle – cooked to death. Conclusion: You can definitely eat well in the Taufsteinhütte. I'll find out whether that's possible on my next visit. So, despite the spaetzle, 4 stars. Salad, rump steak, fried potatoes and this herb butter deserve full marks.

An overnight stay in a family barrel, an hour in the barrel sauna, a three-course menu with corresponding drinks and in the morning a breakfast buffet where nothing was missing. Chapeau for this divine place with attentive and friendly staff! Completely in contrast to the previous speakers here; What we couldn't understand in the slightest, we give 5 stars in all areas. Remarkable cuisine true to the principle: ...you have to love cooking, as if you were a guest forever! Thank you very much !! Jens R from KS

Were there for the grill buffet. It was too cold in the wooden hut to relax and enjoy the food. Some of us had our jackets on. The selection was already known beforehand. Unfortunately, the grilled food outside was cold until you sat at the table. The weather just didn't fit the theme.

Ambiance all well and good. First sat outside, but after 1 hour there was no service even after asking inside. And you were supposed to be assigned a seat inside, but even after asking, that didn't happen.

Mass processing with poor price-performance ratio If you want to spend relaxing hours with good food with family or friends, this restaurant is not the right place. The atmosphere was more reminiscent of a train station than a cozy restaurant. At least when it came to the noise level. It was simply impossible to have a conversation without having to use your voice to communicate. Sign language would have been even more helpful here. The beef fillet steak I ordered was tough and served lukewarm. The cocktails were also a disappointment, lacking in content and unappealing to the eye. Apparently people here place more value on quantity and handling than on comfort and hospitality. The tables were placed extremely close together and the guest rooms were literally crammed with seating. Only the prices are high here. Service and cuisine rather below average. Overall it was a disappointing experience. I cannot recommend this restaurant under any circumstances. There are definitely better options in the area!

You must have been very annoyed if you posted your first criticism on the Internet on your 85th birthday. The baptismal hut did it! As a senior citizen with a walker, I felt like a second-class citizen in this "establishment". The parking spaces were reserved for hotel guests. The area in front of the inn is roughly gravel, meaning it is not accessible to wheelchair users and walker users. It was only with difficulty that we found a way to get into the house. The narrow path was also lined with ashtrays and signs. The high step at the reception desk cannot be bridged without a ramp. The surrounding staff offers no help! Incredible! My tip to the host: HANG A SIGN: DISABLED AND SENIOR PEOPLE NOT WANTED!!! That would at least be honest. Regardless of this, the food was bad, sometimes lukewarm and presented completely carelessly. Baptismal hut: Never again!

The ambience was nice, the menu, which we had looked at online in advance, promised good things. We sat outside in the courtyard; except for one table, everyone else was free. Unfortunately we waited for a whole hour without a waiter with us. Every now and then I asked inside whether we would be served outside. I was assured that someone would come to us. Unfortunately that didn't happen. Our neighboring table, on the other hand, was served by different waiters the entire time, none of whom even came to see us. The food probably would have tasted good, unfortunately we can't judge that. After an hour we left. Unfortunately we can only give one star for this. Too bad!

We spent a wonderful weekend there. Well organized, the overnight stay in the barrel was a super positive experience. Always happy and definitely recommended.

Caution!!! Anyone who complains about the parking fees or questions them in the Taufsteihütte will no longer be served. That's what happened to us on Sunday, January 1st, 2024 when we wanted to eat something in the baptismal hut. We expressed our lack of understanding about the parking fees that we had to pay to get to the hut in the first place. After a long wait and subsequent inquiries in the Taufsteinhütte, the waitress literally told us: "Anyone who complains like that will intentionally not be served here."

For me as a wedding photographer, one of the best locations in the area! The rooms are wonderfully and rustically designed with a great elegance! The service, the food and the celebration location are simply amazing. It's always a pleasure to be here and I can 100% recommend the Taufsteinhütte!

A fabulous place in the middle of nature where you immediately feel at home. A special feature are the wine barrels for overnight stays. Great! You can also go on many hikes, including to the Hoherodskopf.

Delicious food and nice service. Sleeping in the barrels is comfortable but quite cramped. But it's fun because it's a little different.

We were offered a table at 2:30 p.m.! After repeated requests, no service came to us; instead, three people polished their nails at the front. We will never visit this place again. One should be more than ashamed of this behavior. Absolutely sad place and not worth recommending. Shame on you... 0 stars

The Taufsteinhütte offers a wonderful opportunity to escape everyday life, even for a weekend. Whether it's a room, a wine barrel or a forest hut, there's something for everyone here. The whole thing, idyllically located on the Hogenrodskopf, with a beautiful view over the entire valley. Price-performance ratio is definitely right for what is on offer. The restaurant and the outdoor area are a great place to linger and there are more than enough parking spaces for those traveling through. There is free parking on site for overnight guests - compared to day visitors. The Hogenrodskopf is always worth a visit. Always happy to come back

Super nice service and a great atmosphere? The food tastes great and is very nicely arranged on the plates. Everything tastes excellent, fresh and doesn't give the impression of using convenience items at all. Absolutely recommended, not only because of the food but also because of the ambience. We always enjoy coming to the Taufsteinhütte. Delicious food, good service and nice ambience, what more could you want? Four of us were there for dinner during the week as a family. We had a fish dish and three vegetarian dishes. We were able to sit on the terrace. Everything was very tasty and rich. The prices are not cheap but value for money is OK.

Normally you wouldn't necessarily make a treasure public... because it is good the way it is... and this wonderful 4 star hut is pretty well attended... (reservation required)...nevertheless: you can only recommend it and hope that the cuisine remains so good: everything is lovingly prepared and tastes simply great!! Of course "good" and quality has its price but I don't regret a cent! The ambience is uniquely “cozy and tasteful” and you almost feel like you are in the Alps... Weddings are also celebrated there and it may be a bit loud in the courtyard but it didn't bother us: it's part of life and this location is simply perfect for important celebrations! Whether children also get their money's worth there (small things to eat or a playground?) We didn't really see that. Lots of romance! Thanks to the team and keep it up!

Unfortunately, an expired voucher was no longer redeemed. Even if the landlord is in the right, I would have expected a little more goodwill. Even my suggestion to only handle breakfast here was not taken into account. This shows me how much value is placed on customers. Zero accommodation. I will no longer book overnight stays or vouchers there.

We were here for the breakfast buffet and loved it. Something for everyone and everything is very tasty. Drinks are included, which unfortunately isn't available that often these days. We'll definitely come back.

Very tasty food, good quality. We also liked the location and ambience. However, the service must be better for a restaurant of this class. The waiting time was long, for example 30 minutes, until the drinks came.

Since my last visit, (10 - 15 years) a lot has changed. To the positive! The staff, however, is just as friendly and accommodating as I remember. Lovely again.

Michelin would explain it like this: the cuisine is worth a stop!

Stopped in after a nice hike around the high Rodskopf. Beautiful ambience, on the terrace when the weather is good you can see the Frankfurt skyline. Like a little vacation in the mountains. Great friendly team, everyone tried very hard. The food was excellent and wonderfully prepared. I had the meatloaf, which turned a normal dish into something special. Can just be recommended.

End of the hiking day with friends with delicious food and a beautiful view.

We had a work appointment nearby today. Our customers recommended the Taufsteinhütte for a delicious meal in a beautiful atmosphere. They didn't promise too much!! The food was mega delicious. The plate language is very appealing and modern and the staff are all very nice!! We definitely weren't there for the last time. Especially since there are also nice apartments to book there for a cozy weekend and lots of events!! So what you get here is really a successful overall package! Kind regards Claudia and Andreas

Sleeping barrels are super cozy, clean and definitely worth a trip. The food wasn't quite as convincing - some of it was too salty or not very tasty and unfortunately greasy. The breakfast buffet, on the other hand, was very varied and appealing

A gift voucher was the reason for our visit. Unfortunately our expectations were not met. The service was good and the ambience was great, but the food disappointed us a bit. The side salad was very good, the cordon bleu was okay, just a normal cordon bleu with simple frozen fries. The meat of the beef steak was very firm and you had to chew a lot to get it into small pieces. Although it was fried medium, it wasn't as tender as you would like. It's actually a shame because the prices were quite high compared to other restaurants. Since we also had to drive a few kilometers, we were disappointed. We definitely won't come again because of the food, but rather because of the view and the beautiful area.

Today it was a great two hours that the four of us were able to spend here with a wonderful meal.

Good breakfast, good food, beautiful area, blaring music and very unfriendly, instructive service The Taufsteinhuette is trying to get better. In some cases it works. The food is good, including fish, vegan and vegetarian. But the prices absolutely do not match the ambience and service, there is still a lot of work to be done. A good restaurant doesn't offer its guests loud, blaring H3 music and at least turns it off or turns it down when the only customer asks for it. The waitress also doesn't lecture the guests. Then it's better to go to the gate to Vogelsberg in Hartmannshain. At least there you don't have to listen to weird music on the radio while you eat and the service is friendly and professional and the prices are better.

We were greeted by a bad-tempered lady at the reception who couldn't call it a greeting. Ignored for more than twenty minutes, then a very nice female waitress came and gave us the menu and took our drink order. Another 10 minutes passed in which neither the waiter nor the drinks we ordered arrived. We then leave the restaurant!!

You should call it "Food from the Volcano", it fits better with the Vogelsberg

We were there with 5 people and our dog. The food was very, very tasty and special. The atmosphere is cozy and the service is friendly and professional. We are already looking forward to the next visit.

We had to wait a long time for our food. The gnocchi with tomato-mozzarella sauce was a mini portion and tastes better at any Italian restaurant. The “Taufsteinhütte” salad bowl was a joke. Three !!! large lettuce leaves with dressing in the middle, a few olives around the outside there, a few diced ham here, 2 tomato quarters, 1 tablespoon full of tuna, 5 cubes of cheese... and the "baptismal font" salad bowl is ready. This means that you are better off with any Italian restaurant. The biggest joke of all is parking. The Taufsteinhütte is located in J.W.D., but parking on the private property is only permitted for hotel guests. The rest have to park their cars in the public parking spaces belonging to the municipality of Schotten and get tickets. There is no offer such as: b. If you eat something with us, you get a refund of the ticket price for 2 hours or something similar. I was a regular at this restaurant for decades, but now I'll never see me again!

Small lunch snack. We got a table in the hallway outside where the automatic door to the outside opened with every movement. Changed tables. The soups were good, but the baguette was missing. It was on the menu, but the waitress wasn't aware of it. Overall, everything is a bit hectic.

At least 3x WOW! I was in the baptismal hut for the first time, for a small family celebration. The first WOW for the beautiful landscape and the beautiful overall complex of the Taufsteinhütte. The hut is very cozy and designed with great attention to detail. The outside area is also very nice. The overnight accommodations - whether sleeping barrels or rooms - are very comfortable and inviting. The second WOW for the food! Maybe it can't be described as "cheap" for today's price conditions 🙄, but due to the quality and taste it can't be described as expensive or too expensive under ANY circumstances! The breakfast was also a dream. If the day starts like this, what else is supposed to happen? Great selection, very fresh and above all delicious 😋! The third and most important WOW goes to the service staff!!! Many, many thanks to the service staff for a wonderful stay. They were so attentive and friendly that we couldn't help but feel comfortable. It's been a long time since I've had the feeling of being so welcome in a restaurant and being looked after by service staff who enjoy their job. Thank you and congratulations to your employer for working for them. Another important thing for dog owners: Here you can find very pleasant seating arrangements where the dogs have enough rest, other guests are not disturbed and you as a dog owner still don't feel left out. A more than clear recommendation from me!!!

This visit was something different. "Camping" for adults. However, not cheap. So I won't be coming here again.

I stayed in wine barrels for 2 nights with 3 kids. It was simply magnificent. Staff super friendly. Facility well equipped and well maintained. Simply an adventure. Walks, Hoherodskopf, bird park,... time out and adventure for everyone.

Excellent food and super nice service. Here you can still feel really comfortable as a guest. I also had an overnight stay in one of the wine barrels, highly recommended, they are sweet and cozy.

A very nice, but in my opinion an overpriced restaurant. Regional meat is advertised. The butcher that is on the menu is so far away, regional is different. If a voucher has only expired for 4 months, it will no longer be redeemed, which should be a given in a high-end store like this. Every guest who comes here is generous, so you should expect the same from the operator. I'm not going there anymore

Very nice restaurant at the foot of the Hoherodskopf. Good portions, price is right too. It's a beautiful place to hike at any time of the year. But there is also enough parking space.

An overnight stay in a wine barrel and dinner in the hut! A dream!

We ate there and it was ok. But it is outrageous to pay a parking fee for a visit to the Taufsteinhütte! You should rethink the prices of the food and lower them a little. It's a little exaggerated. 27 EUR for a cordon bleu with fries is quite steep! We ordered ice cream for dessert, the balls were no bigger than a quail egg! ☹️ I wouldn't have put it out there like that! That was the last visit to the baptismal hut!!!

The year is still young and the VAT increase is already being passed on directly to the guests. The food is delicious, the service is good, but it's just not fun to eat here anymore. It's a shame, but apparently you can afford it...

Sehr schönes Restaurant auf dem Vogelsberg. Wunderbar eingerichtet und das Essen schmeckt. Einziges etwas Negatives sind die etwas kleinen Portionen und der hohe Preis. Aber die tolle Lage, das Ambiente und der Geschmack heben den Preis auf.

Wir waren am Sonntag zum Mittagessen hier und waren begeistert!! Das Essen war erstklassig!! Sehr empfehlenswert.

Ein zu 100% gelungenes Weihnachtsessen, sensationell guter Service und ein wunderschön weihnachtliches Ambiente. Wir sind begeistert und kommen definitiv wieder. Schön, dass es Soetwas noch gibt.

Der Lachs vom Grill war gut, das Hirschragou auch. Die Spaghetti aus dem Käseleib waren einfach nur ölig und das beiliegende Fleisch war wegen der Panade echt nicht lecker. Zumal das Fleisch 2 mm dünn geschnitten war und die Panade das ganze wie ein Schnitzel haben aussehen lassen... hat sich für 30€ garnicht gelohnt.

Das war ein wunderschöner Abend mit Top Essen und Ambiente. Ich bin begeistert. Der Service war sehr nett mußten aber immer mal ein bißchen warten, nicht weil so viel zu tun war. Musik war auch top. Alles in allem muß ich da wieder hin. Absolut zu empfehlen

Unfassbar schöne Atmosphäre! Ein dickes Lob geht vor allem an die Bedienung raus, so nett und zuvorkommend wurden wir lange nicht mehr bedient!

Nicht nur dass Essen ist richtig gut auch Service und Ambiente ein Erlebnis!
