Tapado in Oer-Erkenschwick

My husband and I visited Tapado for our anniversary, and we were both sorely disappointed. We arrived early and were seated in a part of the restaurant by ourselves, which wasn’t a problem, except that the wait staff wasn’t hugely present. We ordered numerous small dishes to share - some better than others, but largely we found them to be bland and uninspiring. The only dish that really stood out to us was the potato wedges with aioli. We really wanted the salad pictured on page 6 of the menu, only to be told that it’s a stock image and they don’t in fact sell that salad or even one that is similar. The fish dishes we shared were fine, but the meat dishes were all dry and overcooked - especially the Schweinefilletspieße, which at 15€ is disgraceful. Then, dessert… sigh. Here, I have to wonder whether Tapado’s chef has ever tasted (or even seen) a San Sebastián cheesecake? The hot, curdled and gloopy mess that was served to me was an absolute abomination! I’ve had better desserts on airlines and in hospitals. And the fact that it was sent back to the kitchen and we were still charged for it blows my mind! I’m not sure if we were there on a bad day or if my standards are too high, but Tapado left a very bitter taste in my mouth. I can’t recommend it at all.

Yesterday, the four of us went to the restaurant; it was my first time. I have to say my expectations were exceeded many times over. The food selection was excellent. Everything arrived at the table hot and perfectly seasoned. We could also control the pace at which the dishes were served. The service staff was extremely friendly and accommodating to special requests. We spent a very enjoyable 2.5 hours there. I'd already like to plan my second visit. Update: Yesterday, November 8th, we ate there for the second time, and it was just as outstanding as our first visit. We were once again very impressed with the food and the service. We'll probably be visiting this restaurant regularly now; we're already looking forward to it.

Here, the chef conjures up a taste of Spain on your plate... I've rarely had such good tapas, the paella is superb, everything is very fresh and cooked to perfection, a true taste sensation, all homemade, the best aioli... The service is quick, attentive, and friendly, the restaurant is cozy and clean, I'll be back! ❣️

I've already been there twice with work for lunch because our bosses love it so much. And I can only say: I'm absolutely thrilled too! The ambiance is lovely, clean, and well-maintained, with a pleasant atmosphere. The selection of drinks and food is excellent; there's something for everyone. The food was delicious, served hot and fresh. Overall, the order was processed quickly, and many items arrived at the table at the same time. Of course, there are always a couple of things I don't like, but that's not the restaurant's fault. It's simply a matter of taste. I find some things quite pricey, but that's probably normal. I enjoy sharing the different tapas, so you can sample a wide variety of dishes. I thought it was great, and we'll definitely be back!

We're not from this area, but we were at a market nearby and got hungry in the evening. After searching for a while, we thankfully stumbled upon this tapas restaurant. If we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely come back. I've NEVER received my food so quickly after ordering. Everything was incredibly delicious. Of course, it wasn't the cheapest, but anyone who's ever eaten tapas understands that you have to pay a bit more for such a wide selection and variety of dishes. Instead of just ordering a main course with a side dish, you get to sample a whole range of things. One of the best restaurants I've ever been to. Thank you so much for a wonderful evening!

Just lost 5 stars because the cheesecake was horrendous. First time I’ve ever come across a San Sebastián cheesecake which is served warm. Tapas were amazing!

The aioli was a bit salty, the salmon was overcooked, and some of the dishes were too oily, but still a good 3 stars. The service was excellent and the ambiance was very pleasant, but unfortunately, it lacked the taverna atmosphere.

Four of us went there for the first time based on a friend's recommendation. The food was really good quality; the meat was superbly seasoned and grilled to perfection. The vegetables were also very tasty and all of them were truly delicious. We ordered the tapas menu for two and additional tapas. The service was super attentive, very fast, and incredibly polite. Great staff! The ambiance is clean, tidy, and cozy. You feel comfortable and welcome as a guest. The four of us had a great conversation, even though the restaurant was almost packed. We will definitely be coming back more often now. You've gained a fan!

Incredibly delicious. There's something for everyone. You don't even know what to order. Everyone will be satisfied. The staff is very friendly. The decor is very nice and harmonious. The prices are quite expensive, but you're happy to pay for them.

I can only agree and have to say that I'm glad about its proximity to Recklinghausen... which means regular visits in the future for me. When it comes to food, there should be something for everyone. (When we asked the waiter about some dishes, it turned out that for some dishes, especially paella, you can specify how you'd like them prepared. This refers to the choice of meat, fish, or vegetarian.) We can definitely recommend the bread with allioli, chorizo, bacon-wrapped dates, Pimiemtod de Padrón, and the chicken with garlic and rosemary. But save room for the Catalana at the end. I'm already looking forward to the next visit!

I'd only heard good things about it and finally went there. We only had vegetarian tapas. First of all: aioli. Wow! The Manchego sticks with fig were a dream.

Delicious tapas, friendly service, and even a beer garden invite you to linger. The menu offers the usual tapas (and more) and, among other things, a homemade sangria. We love coming here. However, a table reservation is recommended.

Absolutely fanomanal food. The bench seats are a bit uncomfortable inside but the food is to die for. Tapas menu as well as singular orders come fast and taste amazing.

The food was okay but nothing special; I've had much better tapas. A bit lackluster. The dessert was convenience food, which is fine and usually tasty, but the ice cream had crystals forming, and it was awful at that. I found it too expensive for what was on offer. The place is modern, well-maintained, and clean, but lacks a Spanish feel. The service was very friendly, sometimes a bit confused, but we're all human. It's okay for a drink, but I wouldn't eat here again and I don't understand the hype.

We ate there for the first time today. Everything is very clean and tidy, and the outdoor seating is nice too. The food is rather disappointing, however; relatively simple cuisine at quite high prices. If you ask for another baguette for the aioli, you're immediately charged another €2. Sorry, but five more slices of baguette should be fine, considering I've spent €100 eating and drinking there. The quantities for the tapas offer for two people for €32.90 were also quite manageable, and the beef skewer, with only two pieces, was only half edible because the second piece was completely tough. A real shame; we won't be coming back again.

We had a reservation for two people and, due to the early hour, were able to choose a table outside. The service was very friendly and competent. Our selected tapas arrived quickly, and the table was just large enough to accommodate them all. We had aioli with bread twice and were glad that we were advised against ordering another portion of bread. All tapas (aioli with bread, mixed olives, marinated anchovies, fried anchovies (2x), potato wedges, potato cubes, tuna pastry rolls, meatballs) tasted good and the respective sauces or aioli harmonized excellently. A surprise were the meatballs in tomato sauce: very tasty and the sauce also went well with the various potato tapas (potato cubes and potato tapas), which, however, came once with aioli and once with salsa - there's nothing wrong with combining the tapas 😉. For dessert, there were two Crema Catalan and a Café Crema in between. Two quarts of dry white wine and a large bottle of still water quenched our thirst. We went for 105.60 and found that reasonable. The adjacent parking lot and the main road can be annoying, but we'll put up with that in the future. By the way: Whoever saw the church clock and the If the bells stopped ringing, you might have consumed too much Spanish brandy 🤯 Postscript: From 6:30 p.m., the outside started to fill up. We were there at 5 p.m., and it was very quiet. There are a few booths inside, but if you sit in the main hall, it can get noisy. So, I recommend making a reservation 👋

Dear reader, please pay particular attention to the "nice" response from the owner... I think that says it all ;) Addendum June 2025: After we were only semi-impressed the first time, we decided to give the restaurant a second chance. This turned out to be a big mistake. After we ordered an appetizer, our menus were taken away from us because they might get dirty. It's all well and good that such precautions are taken here, but we were a bit perplexed and confused as to how we were supposed to order the main course. The situation was somewhat bizarre. We love going out to eat with our family and often, but we've never experienced anything like this in all these years. It was ridiculous; we felt like little children. There was no sign of good service. The situation could perhaps have been handled better, but this is simply unacceptable for a service provider. A little tip for the restaurant: Just laminate your menus; they'll last a long time, even if you spill a little mess. We will definitely never set foot in this restaurant again. I'll leave the old review up, though: I really liked the variety of dishes; the aioli was particularly tasty. The fresh baguette and potato wedges were delicious. The mushrooms were a bit too chewy for my liking, and the potato cubes were a bit bland. The bruschetta, on the other hand, was fantastic. The chicken skewers, the steak, the anchovies, and the scampi were also spot on. Unfortunately, the salad didn't taste like much. I like that you can write down the order numbers in advance; it makes ordering easier. It was quite busy that day, so the waiters were unfortunately quite busy, hence the one-star deduction. Otherwise, the food is highly recommended, with a few reservations. It could definitely be better!

We liked it a lot; the staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. The ambient sound was also very pleasant. It was quite busy, but we still had a good conversation. However, the prices here are significantly higher than in other tapas restaurants I've been to.

There were two of us there and we had the tapas menu. Everything was very tasty and the warm things were served hot. One of the best restaurants in OE! The staff is very friendly & attentive.

The four of us went to Tapado for paella today. Two large pans were brought to the table. The paella was beautifully prepared and tasted great! There is nothing wrong with the service and ambience. We were completely satisfied!

Top Essen und Service und bis 1h vor Schließung des Restaurant alles gut. Wir waren mit Freunden dort und hatten einen schönen Abend. Auch die Damen, die uns bis dahin bedient hatten waren freundlich! Der Abend anschließend wurde vor uns von einer männlichen!! Unserer Meinung nach unfreundlichen Bedienung absolut vermiest, der gerne die Lokalität früher schließen wollte. Verständlich , allerdings inakzeptabel 1h vor der offiziellen Schließung!! Vor allen Dingen mit welchen kundenunfreundlichen Äußerungen! @ Geschäftsführung/ Inhaber: no go!! Für den Fall, dass der Besagte auch der Inhaber war, um so schlimmer!! Hoffe das diese Bewertung zum Nachdenken anregt!

After my first visit on Saturday evening April 5th, 2025 with 4 adults, I can recommend this Spanish tapas restaurant with a clear conscience and without reservation. While even long-established restaurants - if they have survived the Corona period - are struggling with limited service due to cost pressure and a lack of staff, at Tapado the kitchen, bar and service function flawlessly. The food - we ate a wide range of tapas with vegetables, fish, chicken, lamb and beef - was originally prepared in Spanish and came to the table hot and on time according to the menu. The service staff was always “on site” and very attentive. The portions are appropriately large and the prices are in perfect proportion to the excellent food and drinks. I can also recommend the homemade sangria as an aperitif. Since the restaurant is always busy, an early reservation is essential. We'd love to come back!

Unsere Erfahrung waren alles andere als erfreulich. Auch wir hatten das bestelle Essen nur vereinzelt bekommen, wobei oft der Hauptgang mit langer Verzögerung vor der Vorspeise/Beilage kam. Die Kellner machten den Eindruck überfordert zu sein und die Erfassung der Gerichte verläuft augenscheinlich über Handnotizen der Kellner. Auch wir haben teilweise bestellte Gerichte nicht erhalten. Selbst für simple, nachbestellte Getränke mussten wir über 30min warten und es waren mehrere Aufforderungen nötig. Das Essen an sich war in Ordnung. Ebenso Ambiente und es sind ausreichend Parkmöglichkeiten vorhanden. Das Bezahlen am Ende war eine reinste Katastrophe. Der Kellner fragte jeden Einzelnen, was verzehrt wurde und machte sich erneut Notizen. Wir hatten das Gefühl, dass sie selber den Überblick verloren hatten. Bis zum bezahlen vergingen wieder mehr als 30min und es wurde (wenn auch in geringen Mengen) Trinkgeld unterschlagen. Außerdem standen nicht erhaltene Gerichte sowie nicht bestellte Gerichte auf der Rechnung. Auch wurden gültige Gutscheine nicht angenommen und es gab keine zusammenhängende Rechnung. Nach dem Aufzeigen der Probleme fühlte sich der Kellner sehr schnell angegriffen und fing mitten im Gastraum lautstark an, auf eine sehr unprofessionell und persönliche Art an zu diskutieren. Dies ruiniert den Abend dann endgültig. Trotz dem leckeren Essen würde ich nicht wieder kommen. Schade.

The tapado is very large, the service is very attentive and very fast. The ambience wasn't Spanish enough for me, you couldn't recognize any music or decoration here, the main focus here is to serve lots of seats. The food was ok, but nothing special, neither lovingly prepared nor exceptionally seasoned. Anyone who has eaten real tappas in Spain etc. will certainly be reminded of a nice holiday, but the quality still doesn't come close. You can do it, but I've had everything better, but the prices aren't right, they're high.

Today we had dinner at Tapado with four people on New Year's Eve. It was a very nice evening. Despite an initial misunderstanding of the table reservation, the problem was solved in an absolutely friendly, polite and very professional manner. We were given a very nice table and were served really well. The Eseen was very tasty and definitely worth the money. We will definitely come again and enjoy the great service as well as the absolutely delicious Eseen. Dear Tapano team, keep it up.

Unser Gutschein wurde nicht angenommen, da er seit 5 Monaten abgelaufen war. Ich finde desist kein guter Service. Wir werden nicht wieder kommen!

¡Hola dear ones! If you want to spend an evening in Spain, you've come to the right place. I and we absolutely cannot understand the isolated negative comments. Your service was top, always nice, friendly and accommodating. Even when something was forgotten, you immediately apologized and the forgotten tapas came straight away - everything was okay and can happen. The restaurant was also very busy and everyone continued to have a friendly smile on their faces. We found the prices of the individual tapas absolutely justified. There is still quality here and definitely NO warmed up frozen products! Be it bacon-wrapped dates, calamari, Iberico... everything was delicious! Regarding the atmosphere, we would like to say that the restaurant was very nicely decorated and clean, and there was nothing to complain about with the toilets. The women even had deodorant, hairspray and hygiene products, as well as a clean changing table. Spanish music was playing in the background at a pleasant volume, and even with many guests it was easy to have a conversation at normal volume. So I can't understand the negative reviews at all. The staff is so nice, the food is simply great and of very good quality. Never had such great calamari before and the meat (Iberico, rump steak) and the skewers are to fall in love with. Ambience is also good. We'll definitely be back!

This was our third time at Tapado. If it's good, you'll be happy to come back. However, the third visit was different than the previous two visits. The food once again tasted very good! Unfortunately, the tapas menu has apparently changed. In terms of quantity, the cheaper menu items have remained the same. The more expensive menu items (meat, scampi) were unfortunately only very manageable in terms of quantity. Fish was completely missing. That was definitely different on the previous two visits. Price-performance fits here in my opinion. no longer. By default the service asked if we were satisfied. The praise was gladly heard, but unfortunately the criticism was not accepted. Rather, we were told that over 99% of the guests were satisfied. Well, if you don't want feedback, you shouldn't ask. Regarding the ambience: it is really cozy at the front of the restaurant and in the next room, but in my opinion there is a bit of a lack of cosiness in the large hall. A few room dividers or large plants would give the large room some structure and coziness. I hope that you see constructive criticism as an opportunity.

Unfortunately the tapas menu has lost a lot of quality and quantity. Fish is out, meat and sausages have shrunk by 50%. In short, everything that costs money is gone or reduced. 30€ is therefore overpriced. Unfortunately no longer recommended.

There is nothing better than sitting in Tapado for a few hours. A delicious wine. A good meal and a super nice staff. We always enjoy coming back. Merry Christmas.

I had dinner here with 5 friends. Three of us ordered the tapas menu and three of us mixed tapas from the menu. The order was taken quickly and friendly and the bread came very quickly. Unfortunately, the rest was delivered very differently. The three people who ordered from the menu received their orders together. Unfortunately the people with the menu didn't get to eat with the 3 other people. This was because the menu was only started when the rest was almost finished. There was a considerable waiting time here that I can't explain. The quality of the food is great and the staff is very friendly and attentive. Price/performance definitely fits.

The food tastes very good and comes in large portions. Nevertheless, I think the prices are sometimes very high. The staff is very young and you can tell that to some extent. Although very nice and sometimes a bit uncoordinated. On two visits we either received a dish twice or not at all. The atmosphere is nice, but in my opinion nothing special. But basically a recommendation.

We visit Tapado in Erkenschwick regularly and even take a trip from Münsterland because we have never been disappointed here. The quality of the food is really very good, the food is brought to the table quickly and has always been fresh and hot. The tables and facilities were always very clean. However, if you order a table on a Saturday evening with 6 people, 2 of whom have never been to this restaurant and you want to show them that, but then you make a criticism, the approach of the service staff involved and the boss is extremely questionable. Nobody needs snarky comments and blame even though you just want to have a nice evening. According to our comment, we were no longer served in a friendly manner and then left the restaurant more or less disappointed.

Chic Spanish restaurant. At first the service was a bit slow because we had to wait a while until the service asked us for drinks and we got the menu. The restaurant wasn't too full now, but the waiting time was still reasonable. After that everything else like bringing drinks and food went really quickly. Therefore 1 point deducted for service. Otherwise, my family and I were really excited about the food. I can only advise you to order a little less first and then order more. Otherwise, like your daughter, you could end up with a huge plate of tuna salad and then have no room for anything else in your stomach. The atmosphere is pleasant and you sit on very comfortable seats. In terms of price, you can say around €40 per person and you go home full and satisfied. Oh yes, I can only recommend the Manchego cheese...

It took me a good 24 hours after our visit to TAPADO and during that time I thought about writing this review. First and foremost, I would like to say a few lines about the tapas. The four of us sat at a comfortable table in a pleasant atmosphere and our orders ran all over the menu. Starting with bread and ajoli, through dates, anchovies, small squid tubes, mushrooms, potatoes, sheep's cheese, scampi, pimientos de patron, to small skewers of beef and lamb. So really something from everyone. What struck me negatively was the fact that the vast majority of the tapas came from the deep fryer and were therefore greasy. I left out the small meat skewers, but even those had aioli on the plate as a topping. The scampi was completely swimming in oil, which is not unusual, but all in all there was way too much oil and fat. This type of preparation and the composition of the dishes are certainly not healthy. Fortunately, it is now up to everyone to decide what they want from the large selection of dishes. Our only problem was, we were hungry! And going out for tapas if you're hungry is going to be expensive. I don't want to badmouth the visit, but I would like to wish the guests had more freshness. Even the bread, baguette, had to be ordered separately and of course paid for. In my opinion, bread should definitely be part of the meal. It is highly recommended just as a neutral accompaniment to the hearty prepared little things. The visit to TAPADO cost us almost 180 euros, without a tip. During these 2.5 hours our service was friendly, not intrusive but pleasantly accompanying. The next time I visit TAPADO, I would definitely slow down when it comes to ordering. It's better to take it one thing at a time and let it sink in every now and then... Oh.....the San Miguel is on tap!

The tapas were mixed. Rather simple things like bacon-wrapped dates or patatas bravas weren't quite to the point. The beef skewer was great and the sauce for the stuffed peppers was outstanding. Service was okay. The staff seemed partly inexperienced. Not once was anyone asked if everything was okay. The second part of the tapas order came 15/20 minutes after the first. That was a bit too long, but the store was also packed. Overall, the food was better last time.

The food was wonderful and Luise's hospitality was perfect. Wonderful service and food.

We were there on Friday evening with 5 people. The food was good but nothing special, compared to other Spanish tapas restaurants nearby (RE), the taste was rather flat. It was missing that certain extra, I really expected more. I found the cheeses particularly good and the olives particularly bad. Service was friendly and made an effort, questions were asked and cleared away in a timely manner. We sat inside, everything was clean and well maintained. You could also have sat comfortably outside on the terrace.
