Swan - Hessian Cultural Restaurant in Heppenheim (Bergstraße)

Been there for the second time, by invitation. The prices for drinks are excessive, but the portions have been smaller. In a Hessian cultural restaurant I don't expect burgers, but typical Hessian cuisine. For example, the baked blood sausage with egg and bread makes the famous “Heaven and Earth”. Then I could well imagine a Hessian potato soup, vegetarian and perhaps with sausage. Conclusion: I won't be coming back.

Yes, it took a little longer but that didn't matter at all. The food and cider were worth the wait. Left the restaurant completely satisfied and full.

Perfect location, service ok, beer and food good. The schnitzel and cheese sauce was interesting, but I've had a bit better. We spent a wonderful evening with the family.

Great selection of cooked cheese dishes. We were here with our guests from Thuringia, who were able to get a taste of Hessian culture. The bread with the cooked cheese I had was still warm. Unfortunately I wasn't completely satisfied with the service. Unfortunately our drink order was spilled. Fast is different, but still super nice!

The atmosphere on the market square is beautiful. But the service is no longer good. We had reserved a table, but our reservation seems to have been forgotten. We were lucky because a table just became available. Happiness is on a Friday evening in summer! I find it completely excessive to charge €13.90 for 150g of cooked cheese (unfortunately very runny, the consistency needs to be firmer) with 5g of butter, 3 slices of bread and onions carelessly chopped into pieces. By the way, this dish is still listed online as €10.90...

Cooked cheese was very good, service unfortunately incredibly slow and unsympathetic. There was no table available and we were not offered to wait for a free table, even though it had been clarified over the phone that reservations could not be made. The service staff never came to the table on their own, and once another guest even had to show the service staff that we wanted something. The food came quickly and was delicious, drinks took an inhumanely long time, even though there wasn't much going on at a late hour. If a drink was requested, a new one could never be ordered because the service staff left in the same second. All in all, just incredibly long waiting times and snappy answers. Unfortunately, vegetarian food options are also very limited (apart from cooked cheese).

Ordered their cheese schnitzel, cordon bleu, and sausage with sauerkraut. Served with just the right temperature. Serving sizes are big and the potatoes on the side are very tasty. Took the seats outside in front of the fountain, right at the very heart of marktplatz. My kids ate well while enjoying the happy crowd. This is the best first dinner of our summer trip 2024. 😎

I ate a cooked cheese schnitzel there once a month, which I will stop doing; on my last visit the schnitzel was as small as a doll's house. Of course, I didn't get even a little bit full of it, the price stayed the same. When I asked, I was told that it was always the same weight, which was only stupid if you had the comparison from before. Everyone has to save money, but I find it a disgrace to shrink the schnitzel to the size of a doll so that it can hardly be found under the blob of head cheese (it was no longer in the jar like before)!

It was another great evening with dear friends, great food and lots to drink.

Beautiful old restaurant with a special flair. Very nice service and the food was great. Always a pleasure. Great for vegetarians too... the lentil burger is brilliant.

We reserved a table for 5 people (3 adults, 2 children) on a Wednesday evening in June 2024 at 7 p.m. Food was great, as always. Cooked cheese, hand cheese and cooked cheese schnitzel plus various drinks. The service was also tried hard. However, we had to wait about 1.15 hours for the food. Only a warm meal, otherwise cold dishes. 🤷🏻‍♂️ It's borderline with children. Tip: A short note would have been appropriate. But we will come back.

It's a shame you can never get anyone on the phone. Consequence: you can't make a reservation, you go eat somewhere else. The opening times on Google are wrong - you'll find yourself in front of a closed door if you want to try your luck. It's a shame, but maybe it will work again at some point. The food is delicious!

When you sit on the terrace, you sit directly in front of Grandma Magret, with whom there is a collaboration. The service (from Grandma Magret) was good, the food was delicious. Although you are advised that the food does not necessarily arrive at the same time if you order from the different menus, the time delay was quite large.

We had a very fun, nice and delicious evening there. The food was great. It is a typical Hessian pub, to put it that way, with different hand cheese variants and Hessian food. The service was great and the seating was very comfortable. We had a great evening!

Nice restaurant, but the food could be better and personally I always don't think it's okay, if you have to order extra fries and salad with a main course, in my opinion it's a disguised additional expense

Wonderful in the heart of Heppenheim

Best and friendliest service ever. Ate very well. The restaurant has a bit of a nostalgic feel to it even though it is a modern concept. People like to sit and chat after dinner. It is loud and alive. A bit like the old days in the pub❤️.

We waited for over an hour to get our food. As a result we asked for a discount. The server locked the door, shouted at us and threatened with calling the police. We then told her to call the police as we felt uncomfortable since she had locked the door and wouldn’t let us out. Eventually we got out. Do not eat here. Plenty of other options.

Wir waren zu Gast um am Silvester Menu teilzunehmen und waren begeistert. Die verschiedenen Gänge waren zeitlich gut aufeinander abgestimmt und wir hatten einen tollen Abend. Der Service war hervorragend und aufmerksam. Zum Menu gab es eine passende Weinbegleitung. Jeder Gang war ein Genuss und wir waren alle sehr begeistert. Als einzigen Kritikpunkt würde ich jedoch angeben, dass es keinen preislichen Unterschied zwischen dem Fleisch und vegetarischen Menu gab.

Das Essen ist in Ordnung, nichts Besonderes. Mir persönlich fehlt noch mehr vegetarische Auswahl. Der Service ist sehr nett und zuvorkommend!

Waren nach einer Wanderung nur zum etwas trinken dort. Freundlicher Service, gute lokale Weine, sehr schönes Ambiente innen, draußen vor der Türe der schöne Marktplatz. Ich kann das Lokal nur empfehlen.

Um die Mittagszeit an einem verregneten Wochentag im November hat in der Altstadt fast alles geschlossen. Nur hier fanden wir eine gemütliche Gaststätte mit sehr freundlichem Service und leckerem Essen. Hierher kommen wir bestimmt wieder mal.

Ich war zum ersten Mal hier und das Essen war wirklich sehr lecker,zudem es auch für uns Schnitzel vom Hähnchen gab Gott sei Dank. Freundliche Mitarbeiter und saubere Gäste WCs. 1 - Punkt für die enge Platzverteilung meiner Meinung nach. Ansonsten alles top, gerne wieder.

Aus der hessischen Kulturgaststätte ist mittlerweile eine richtige "Kultgaststätte" geworden. Regionale und saisonale Köstlichkeiten in schöner Atmosphäre. Im Sommer Außenbereich mitten auf dem Marktplatz. Personal ist immer super! Kochkäse Weltklasse, Bauernbrot intergalaktisch gut🍺

Super leckere regionale Gerichte. Das Brot ist der Hammer! Immer sehr gut besucht. Ohne Reservierung keine Chance.

Großer Salat mit Pfifferlingen und Speck was ein Gaumen Schmaus und sehr zu empfehlen.

Federweißer schmeckte nicht ganz frisch. Unsere Bestellung von einem Zwiebelkuchen mussten wir 20 Minuten nach der Bestellung ohne eine Entschuldigung stornieren. Aus den Kochkäse haben wir dann auch circa 40 Minuten gewartet. War etwas enttäuschend der Besuch. Werde dort nicht mehr speisen.

Super leckeres, reichhaltiges Essen im gemütlichen rustikalen Lokal. Absolute Empfehlung für deftiges hessisches Essen!

Wir haben hier wiederholt einen sehr schönen Abend verbracht. Der Service ist top und das Ambiente im alten Fachwerkhaus sehr gemütlich. Leider war mein Schnitzel etwas zu sehr durchwachsen, aber Leberknödel und Bratwurst waren sehr lecker. Auf jeden Fall empfehlenswert. Am Wochenende sollte man reservieren.

Kleines, hübsches Restaurant, die Kartoffelchips mit Kochkäse waren sehr lecker :) bei der Hauptspeise gibt es nach meinem Geschmack etwas Verbesserungspotenzial wie zbsp. den Kochkäse beim Schnitzel separat in einem Glas anzurichten,anstatt alles über die Schnitzel zu verteilen, sie sind dann sehr durchweicht. Der Geschmack war aber gut, auch das Brot war super. Die Burger sind leider nicht so gut gewesen, das Fleisch war trocken und hart.

Das beste essen, total süßes Restaurant und die Kellnerin ist der Hammer!

Nette Gaststätte mit leckerem Essen und sehr nettem Service! Aber leider riecht es im Gastraum intensiv nach altem Küchenfett. Macht den Gesamteindruck leider zunichte ....
