Steakhouse Oro Negro in Mainz

The steak was very tasty and cooked to perfection. (Medium) Unfortunately, the rest of the plate couldn't keep up: The salad was poorly presented, with only a small dollop of dressing. The garlic bread was also unconvincing in terms of taste – a simple baguette with a bit of garlic, which unfortunately had no garlicky flavor.

You didn't feel welcome as a guest; the staff was rude and unaccommodating. If you want to have a pleasant evening, you'd better go to another restaurant.

I come 2.3 times a year for lunch. The food is always top and always on point. The owners are also very friendly, the place is clean and tidy. The steaks are always perfect and worth every cent!

What a mega steak. The four of us are currently eating (in Mainz for work) and are 100% surprised at how good the meat is here! If you don't eat here, it's your own fault.

On Saturday morning, before the restaurant opened, I locked my bike in the public space in front of the building to get something from the Globus Metzger next door. At least it looks like public space since there are no structural boundaries. The delivery truck was parked in front of the Globus Metzger, which made it impossible to park on the Globus side. The rest of the space is fenced off because of carnival, so there are no other parking options. I locked the bike to a large, massive folded parasol. When I came back after 2 minutes, a person, probably the owner or otherwise involved with the restaurant, became very loud - so loud that other passers-by also became aware. What was the purpose of locking the bike, etc. I didn't leave any scratches or anything like that. I apologized because I apparently did something wrong. He didn't respond and got louder and louder. Then it didn't even bother anymore. Another passer-by then approached him while I thought about my part and started cycling. If that's how you deal with people, I can definitely understand the other 1-star reviews. A normal note “please don’t park your bike again” would have done the job too. I can only advise anyone not to enter the room in front of this restaurant.

Was in Mainz on business, brought my daughters on the trip to show them the other side of the family heritage (I'm Choctaw and wife is German). Upon arrival we were greeted with smiles and open conversation, we were seated and ordered drinks and given the menu. The wait staff, upon hearing that my girls are part German, couldn't stop chatting. It was so welcoming, my girls couldn't stop talking about it. We ordered ribeye and lamb with vegetables, my girls had never had lamb before and couldn't get enough of it. Everything was so good and cooked perfectly. Upon settling the bill, we were invited to come back before we had to fly back to the US. The second visit was even better, we ordered two lamb, vegetables, the girls were in heaven, if only for the time we there. The staff asked that if we are ever in the area, to please come back through to see them again. I will, I'm returning in February 2025. Thank you Oro Negro for making my daughters feel at home. Cooks eat food while preparing it and lick their fingers. That's not possible. Had steaks, once completely cooked (unfortunately it was still bloody) and once medium rare (it was completely raw). Even after asking to finish frying it again, the medium rare was inedible and the "well-done" ended up being medium rare. Never again!! However, the service was very nice.

Unfortunately the service was really terrible. Drinks were delivered that were not ordered. The rib eye and wedges were good, but the fries were McDonald's quality, so terrible. The nachos were from an Aldi bag and so were the apple strudel and vanilla ice cream. At the beginning we were asked whether we would pay separately or together. The waitress only came to us once within 3 hours and asked if everything was good and if we wanted anything else. Otherwise you have to bring the waitress to the table if you want something. We won't be going to the Oro Negro anymore, we'll be going back to the Patagonia, which is worlds better.

We ate and drank excellently here. Gladly again. We were only surprised that we couldn't get sour cream or barbecue sauce with the potato wedges. But it also worked without it.

The service was far away from suitable for this place. The food was not good enough if you compare food quality and prices. I have ordered beef fillet medium done and it came very well done on the top and raw inside. The french fries were like in Mc Donalds- getting cold in a few minutes and no taste at all. Salad was not fresh. The garlic bread was not home made. There is no option to choose a home made lemonade. The location is great. Wont visit for second time.

Argentijns restaurantje in een 'pijpenlaatje' aan het Schillerplatz. Het restaurant is heel erg gehorig, dus rustig zitten is er niet bij als er aan een lange tafel acht luidruchtige mensen elkaar zitten overschreeuwen. Het voorgerecht salade in een kommetje dreef op ongeveer een centimeter azijn. De bestelde steaks waren dan weer wel heel goed gegrild. Bijbehorende stukken knoflookbrood hebben we wel eens beter gehad. Voor een snelle hap wel geschikt, maar niet om uitgebreid te dineren.

We were in Mainz quite spontaneously and also spontaneously went to the restaurant because we were really hungry. “Steak” was in the name of the restaurant - so let's go for it! Nice service, cool location in the middle and yet basically in the park... That's about it for the positive. Ordered 2x steaks (for 30€ each!!!) medium rare - both partly raw and one completely stringy and hard - therefore very difficult to eat. Potato wedges seasoned too strongly. Chicken wings (too strongly seasoned - not suitable for the little ones) and fries were okay. It wasn't worth €100 for 2.5 portions (couple with child). At least we know where we won't be going any time soon. Too bad

Wir sind hier am Ende unseres Stadrundganges spontan eingekehrt und waren sehr angetan. Die Sitzplätze unter den Bäumen in der Nähe vom Fastnachtsbrunnen sind vor allem an warmen Sommerabenden zu empfehlen. Unsere Gerichte waren sehr lecker und die Bedienung freundlich und aufmerksam.

I was in Mainz for the first time at the end of May 2024 and had dinner in the restaurant. The selection is excellent and the meat is also excellently prepared. The staff is friendly, quick and the location of the house is also very good in my opinion. The food was sufficient and the price was okay for me. The restaurant appears clean, which can be seen in the toilets. Space capacity is limited, which doesn't have to be a disadvantage if you know it in advance. In my opinion, the restaurant is definitely a recommendation.

A cozy place with outdoor seating (in summer) and a nice atmosphere on the square. Steaks were super good and wine was outstanding. The service was polite and attentive, but made some small mistakes (we had to open the wine ourselves and were not given clean cutlery after the salad). All in all a really good experience.

Very good steak restaurant in Mainz. The menu is small, but what is on offer is top notch. Our steaks were very well prepared, the starter and dessert were extremely tasty and we were both very enthusiastic about the orange mustard sauce. The shop is very small, so you should make a reservation to be on the safe side. In the summer when the outdoor area is usable, it's certainly a little easier. I haven't eaten such a tender and delicious fillet in a long time. Also perfectly cooked to medium rare. And that pepper sauce for the potato wedges... a dream! It wasn't a problem to get another bowl.

An altogether forgettable experience. I booked a table for two almost 6 hours before the scheduled meal time. When we arrived we were greeted in the most inhospitable manner, and forced to.move tables three times, apparently because the restaurant was overbooked The final insult however was when the reservation book was brought to our table so that I could "prove" I had a reservation! Not being willing to accept further bad service, or indeed bad manners, we promptly left.at this point Even hunger was more attractive to us than remaining. I can honestly say that I have never experienced such poor guest service ever before.

Wir haben die Orange-Vinegrette gewählt, welche sehr lecker und erfrischend ist. Die Steaks hatten den gewünschten Gargrad und sind überaus lecker gewesen. Mei. Rumpsteak war richtig zart und hatte ein fantastisches Grillaroma, wie es selten der Fall ist. Ich werde hier definitiv nochmal kommen, wenn wir Lust auf Fleisch haben.
