Unfortunately we didn't get to eat. After other tables we arrived at at the same time had already been served, we were completely ignored. The waitress just stared blankly and we left after 15 minutes. The others' food looked good. The ambience is something different and like an old diner... But I can't say anything more about it. Real diner atmosphere in the middle of Essen's commercial area. The food is plentiful and good. Price-performance absolutely harmonious. The staff is nice and accommodating. In my opinion, however, the shakes are worth the price

America vibe comes through. Operation and service was very good. Food tasted okay, the blue cheese burger was filling and tasty, the fries were well seasoned. The milkshake felt like it was just ice cream, but maybe I'm just not the type for "real milkshakes" Would go there again, but probably more for the ambience.

The ambience is mega. The service was also very attentive and friendly, but the food looked like I was taking the burger out of the fridge at Netto. Getting a burger for €15.40 that is almost burnt and where the lettuce is mush is very critical. It tasted normal but for almost €16 I expected a little more. Nevertheless, the milkshakes were great.

I go there at least once a year. Whenever it's my birthday... the staff is always super nice... only the burgers were smaller than usual this year

Great photo backdrop, friendly service, very tasty sauces (dips), but unfortunately only industrially manufactured inferior pattis, worse bans than at the well-known burger chains. Some burnt potato wedges. For the high price (approx. €17), I expect fresh meat and ingredients and more toppings. M. M. Wrong concept and more appearance than reality. It would be better to increase the price to €20 and prepare much better quality and freshness. Possibly reduce the size of the menu in order to offer better quality with fewer raw products and storage. Also improve the cleanliness of the sinks/toilet. But I'll still try out the more promising shakes when I get the chance. Conclusion: If you want to save yourself a visit to the Deutsches Museum München or Movie Park for the 50s diner flair, you should see this place once. Unfortunately, in the long term you won't be able to win regular customers with the poor price-performance ratio of the burgers. Actually, it's a shame!

After we tested all the burger providers in Essen in detail with the staff, the Star dinner is by far the best American dinner in Essen

Food was great so really top service is very young and sometimes a bit overwhelmed, we sometimes asked twice what we ordered

The food is okay. Personally, I wouldn't go there specifically for that. The patties take some getting used to and it's quite loud when it's full. The service was friendly and there were no long waiting times.

We were actually looking forward to the evening. When the four of us came in, the waitress behind the counter simply asked if we had reserved. That wasn't the case but there were still a few tables available. She then billed the 10 customers individually, which took over 10 minutes. She then assigned us a table that was obviously free. After another 10 minutes, 2 more guests sat down next to us. Shortly afterwards they received the menu and shake card. Only when we asked whether we could order something did a young man come and hand us the menu. He had embezzled the shake card. When we wanted to order, we wanted to know which dishes were gluten-free. The waitress probably heard this for the first time and had to ask accordingly. Only the salad without meat (contrary to the label on the menu) was the statement. Not even the fries were gluten-free as they were prepared in the same deep fryer as all the other dishes. It's a shame, perhaps we should move with the times and offer a few dishes not only to vegetarians but also to allergy sufferers. The ambience was again very loud and busy/restless.

I have been your guest for many years but today is the first time in 2 years. I think you've slowed down, you're still good!! And the price-performance ratio is still ok, it's nice to sit with you and take a leisurely break. Will come again, for sure!!

Great store, absolutely friendly staff. We wanted to test whether it might be worth ordering 1 kg of steak. So I ordered the small 300gr version. Conclusion... you can try the 1 KG😎👍

Basically, we love coming and are always very satisfied.. we are always happy to recommend others.. we have done that very often in your case. However, it wasn't that great today... you basically have such a great reputation... not only do we love your food, but the staff is always very great and we really appreciate it. Today we unfortunately have to say that we were very pissed off. Once is not once... but twice, once is too many... One of the young men in service should perhaps think about a change. The first time we don't say... but today it was easy... You're a great shop .. easy going .. relaxed, personable .. but the brat... nope... the way you hand the card... we were sitting at table 14... somehow over the counter... At After we picked up the drinks, we also wanted to order the food... he just ignored that... another very nice young man brought us the drinks and then asked if we wanted to order. Of course we really wanted to do this... and noticed that the first colleague didn't do it for whatever reason... the first one was standing at his counter and mine was standing at an angle from there... Yes, what do you want? ??? We then replied...please don't do that. Annoyed, he then managed to come to the table to take the order. Thereafter there was absolutely no further service from him. However, he let us loudly participate in his conversation with a colleague, in which there were a lot of expressions that, in our opinion, shouldn't necessarily be used in a dining room... and certainly not directly 50 cm from the ear of the guest who is still eating. It didn't take long until he started the next thing... we were in the middle of a conversation which he brazenly interrupted by chatting in between. Table cleared... no further service... we would have liked to have had something more... but oh well. . the young man from before came by and asked if we had another wish.. . This was the case... we asked for the shake menu.. friendly and motivated he ran off... bang the waiter, who wasn't that nice to us... again just over the counter without comment... A shake TO GO was ordered... it came in a glass... We gave the tip directly to the nice young man.. I thanked him for the super friendly service and said in clear words that his colleague was a bottle tongs.. I was then admonished at the checkout by a half-naked young lady works there... that word doesn't belong in the store... I would have easily apologized for that... but when the staff thinks they're talking about pissing in corners next to the guests... I think I was putting it very nicely. Have a nice evening everyone...

Unfortunately, the last two visits were more than disappointing. We always enjoyed coming, but now we would rather go to Gelsenkirchen. Recently, the citizen rolls have been flattened and charred on the contact grill. The meat has become less. The service is underground. Unfriendly, it takes forever to get noticed and once you've eaten, no one comes to see if you want anything else or if everything is ok. When we wanted to take our shakes with us from the children, they simply gave us cups to refill. Normally this was always done at the bar. It's a shame but the price/performance ratio is no longer right here if you know what it was like before.

Our burgers were both very good. We often lack sauce, but here there was enough. Service friendly and quick. Atmosphere in typical diner style.

Unfortunately, two of two burgers fell through. One came to the table with a hair... the other had a horrible party (meat)! Totally chewy and gristly. The one with hair was replaced by service. There was a beer on the house for it. Anyway. The best thing about our visit was the garlic dip with the potato wedges.

Within a year, the quality of food had become so poor and it was thrown carelessly cold on the plate. The taste is on par with the train station snack bar...but at least the prices are like a big one... We probably won't go here anymore.

The food was fantastic, the staff was friendly and it really has the charm of an American diner. I'd love to come back.

Hello, You wouldn't think so, but we were here for the very first time last Sunday. It was quite a warm day, but it was pleasantly cool inside. We had the original Betty Boop Burger and the American Klassik with an extra fried egg and 5 slices of bacon .We also shared a coleslaw. It was super delicious and the quantity was more than enough. We'll be back, that's a promise!

Unfortunately the overall food was very poor. You have to look for salad on the burger, the meat was very dry because it was fried for far too long. The prices have been increased considerably. It's a shame it was the last time we were there.

The burger tasted like it came from Aldi and was warmed up in the microwave. And then with the "all you can eat" schnitzel you have to wait over 30 minutes for the next schnitzel so that you are full by then.

We come here more often. Usually late in the evening. Just like yesterday. Spontaneously and shortly before midnight we got a delicious burger. A big thank you to the staff who made a late-night birthday surprise possible for my husband. I think we are in America! The food was simply great, super tasty and large portions, the milkshake (chocolate banana) was very tasty, is by far the best milkshake I have ever had, the ambience gave us an oasis of well-being as if we were really in America. The waitresses were very friendly. All in all, highly recommended and we will eat there often. 🙂

Was there a long time ago and everything was actually good. But unfortunately I was pretty disappointed with the burger on my last visit. As always, I took the Betty B. with extra cheese, but the meat patty was really not good this time. When I asked, I also asked whether it was or was a frozen patty. My wife and I often go to Star Diner and there has never been a dish that we didn't like. The ambience is what you would imagine a diner to be like. Classic American. The staff is always super friendly and also very attentive and accommodating. Keep it up! Anyone who appreciates good food should definitely pay a visit to the Star Diner.

Child friendly, great food, great service, but when you pay it's best to check the bill straight away! We first did it at home because my sister had paid for everything and I wanted to give her my share, then I noticed that the bill wasn't correct. Almost 4 euros more were charged (the children's drinks are actually included in the kids menu, but were charged individually) doesn't sound like much, but plus the tip it's not really... a real shame. As I said, the waiters were all super great themselves.

Neither the burger, nor the potatoes, nor the milkshake were tasty. I've been to places where the same burger is 3 euros cheaper and a million times tastier. French fries - I tried them and continuing to eat them was life-threatening. Milkshake - there was sugar crunch in the ice cream. I hope this review will help the establishment correct its mistakes and not alienate visitors.

Went to the all you can eat today, delicious ribs. Unfortunately the wrong milkshake came, thanks to my nut allergy I was able to end the evening, go and live with the itchy pain that luckily subsided. I had to pay for the ribs, the drinks were on the house and the wrong milkshake too. The mistake could have caused someone worse injury. "Sorry your Pepsi was free" is a lousy excuse, I'll avoid the store from now on. P.S. Backwards, ribs with Pepsi and hazelnut milkshake taste like Smacks, and I won't eat those again for a while. Thanks for ruining your birthday party. Blocking bad reviews is cowardly. Even if they are already a few years old. Nothing seems to have changed.

Very pleasant dinner. I was there before Corona times and always discovered something on the menu that I wanted to try. The diner is still visited today. It's also worth going there just for a shake.

The service here is incredibly attentive, fast, courteous and extremely friendly and in the mood for jokes, which really lightens up the atmosphere. The food is as you would expect from a typical diner. The burgers here are super juicy, well seasoned and fried to perfection. At the same time, the portion is really generous, which makes the price-performance ratio unbeatable. The diner itself is also wonderfully cozy. But if you love shakes so much, you'll get your money's worth with a large menu. The Buddy Holly Shake is particularly recommended!
