Definitely not recommended for the solstice celebration!

Unfortunately, we haven't been served for about half an hour. Not even after asking at the counter. The tables are almost all empty. But the entire staff is in an internal meeting regarding the solstice celebration. What a shame and disappointing!

Great view, good food – but more toilet paper, please! The Sonnenalm really has a lot to offer: stunning views, delicious food, and a cozy atmosphere. But one thing simply has to be mentioned: The restrooms were completely out of paper during my visit – and this in a busy day-trip restaurant. Especially after a good meal, there shouldn't be any toilet paper left on the quiet side. A suggestion: Three rolls per stall would be a solid basic setup. Anyone who's ever found themselves with 50% phone battery and 0% toilet paper knows what I'm talking about. 😉 Still: I'll be back – but next time with extra paper in my bag.

Delicious food, friendly service and amazing views 😊 I'm glad I didn't read all the negative reviews before visiting this place, because they would have definitely put me off.

The food is terrible. Many dishes on the menu are unavailable. The waiting times are exceptionally long. No cash payments accepted! The waiter spilled a wheat beer on our clothes without apologizing. Of course, we had to pay for it. The cost of cleaning our clothes is still pending. That was our one-time visit to the Alm.

We were very disappointed: Little selection, very expensive, no cash payments, menus only available via QR code, and the food wasn't great either. The ambiance, however, is very nice.

We didn't stay overnight. We took a day trip.

The worst value for money I've ever experienced at a "mountain hut" (you shouldn't really call it that). Tomato bread with egg costs 19 euros – really cheeky. Please go to another mountain hut; we shouldn't support commercialism.

A cable car ride that's well worth it. A 15-minute ride up, with a stunning panoramic view. Once at the top, you'll be greeted by the jingling of cowbells. The hike to the summit cross is doable, but proper footwear is essential. If you're feeling a little peckish, stop in and enjoy a Kaiserschmarrn (sweet pancake) or apple strudel with vanilla sauce—only if you like sweets, of course. Those who prefer savory dishes can choose something delicious from the menu. The friendly staff will give you plenty of good advice. By the way, if you go up to the Kampenwand in brilliant sunshine—you've hit the jackpot!

Great view, no question. However, we received our meals 20 minutes apart. Considering that each meal costs €20-30, the service wasn't good for me. Likewise, coffee and cake arrived at other times, 20 minutes apart. You want to have them together. The staff isn't very attentive.

We had the mountain brunch for €75. The view was absolutely fantastic and the food was good, too. However, it's pretty cheeky that still water isn't even included and you're forced to buy a bottle of water for €9. A water carafe is included with every simple hotel breakfast.

Menus and payment are only available electronically, but orders can only be placed with the waiter. Somehow illogical.

We were here for brunch on Whit Monday! The price is high. Service is very good, the food is delicious. Coffee and sparkling wine are included, and one orange juice is included. Unfortunately, the water isn't included and is very expensive, which is a shame. Otherwise, everything was perfect. The view is unique. The gondola ride and parking are extra. The total is €100 per person.

I found the food overpriced and nothing special. The schnitzel arrived very late, after everyone else had already finished eating. The salad arrived after we asked the waitress.

The view and ambiance are very nice. The wait was a bit longer, but we were there at around 12:00 PM, prime time, so it's still bearable. However, the food is average at best (!) and an absolute disgrace for the price. Just hike to the nearest alpine pasture and eat there...

Great place with a fantastic view. Staff very friendly and humorous. Drinks and food are delicious and plentiful. The view is breathtaking and it's worth taking a stroll around, admiring the nature, and letting yourself be intoxicated. See for yourself.

The staff preferred to be on their phones rather than attending to incoming guests. Ultimately, we had to order at the counter because all attempts to attract attention failed. However, no German was spoken behind the counter. Drinks or other requests were not requested during our stay. There were no suitable options for small children. Prices were very high.

Terribly bad service. Even though we had a reservation and the restaurant had been open for over an hour, they were still cleaning and setting the remaining tables. The staff calmly served breakfast. We had difficulty ordering drinks, but afterward, we were completely ignored. There were no other guests present. We decided to pay and have breakfast somewhere else. We even had to chase the staff to pay.

Unfortunately, we had to stay outside. Payment is only possible by card; cash is not accepted.

It's a shame about the fantastic view from the alpine terrace. The pseudo-Bavarian modern style has nothing to do with a cozy mountain hut atmosphere. The terrace is very nice, but unfortunately, the staff is very inattentive. Menus are only available via QR code, and payment is only possible by card. This doesn't go down well with older guests. And the prices are completely overpriced by Chiemgau standards compared to other mountain huts. After waiting, we left and went to the cozy alpine hut located a little lower down.

Just steps from the Kampenwand cable car. Large glass windows, magnificent views of the mountains and Lake Chiemsee. The food was disappointing: the Kaiserschmarrn was too fatty, with too few eggs, but with nuts (!!) added. Side dishes included ice cream (!!) and unsweetened fruit compote.

Price performance is not right.

The prices are terrible. It's understandable that you have to pay more on the mountain. But almost €25.00 for a snack plate is outrageous. Two slices of salami, one slice of ham and some cheese. One slice of bread and one pretzel. If you want an extra slice you have to pay extra, of course. It has to get more expensive every year even though the quality hasn't improved. It's absolutely outrageous. But the tourists pay for everything. I don't. The wheat beer, at almost €6, is also extortionate. Think about why most people only eat cake and only have one drink. If the prices were better people would definitely consume more. Luckily the service was really friendly and understood us.

QR code menu and only card payment, they have shit in their brains

The prices are exorbitant. Kaiserschmarrn for over €20 is outrageous and not tasty. And there aren't even individual fries for kids. It's better to walk a few meters further for authentic mountain huts.

Pleasant café – ideal for cakes, less so for hot meals. The daily special (risotto, €15.20) was a bit bland, and the portion was rather small. The bread basket was dry. At least. The cheesecake was excellent and lovingly presented. The staff was polite, but seemed stressed and not entirely cohesive. The interior is stylish, with plenty of light – good for a coffee break. Rather disappointing for a hearty lunch. No Wi-Fi. Complete. Total bill: €58 for two daily specials, two cakes, and two sodas

A solid café with a beautiful location, but probably not our first choice for lunch. The spaghetti (€14.90) was okay, but lacked any particular flavor or refinement. The salad was fresh, but quite simply presented. Positive. The cappuccino was very good, and the drinks arrived quickly. The service was attentive, but slightly overwhelmed when the place was full. The interior is cozy, and the terrace invites you to linger – perfect for coffee and cake, less so for a long lunch. No Wi-Fi available. Total. Total bill: €55 for two main courses, two drinks, and a slice of cake

The prices are more than high. The location is beautiful. It's the first place to stop after the gondola ride. That's probably why the prices are affordable.

Stylish restaurant with a fantastic view. The staff was very friendly. The prices are quite steep. One latte, one latte, and one Kaiserschmarrn for €30.50. The Kaiserschmarrn was plentiful and very tasty.

A great attraction for hikers and mountain lovers. A magnificent view of the mountain range. The SonnenAlm is very cozy with a large sun terrace. A downside is the digital menu and card-only payment.

Perfect location with a fantastic view of the Alps. A quick glance at the menu revealed the best prices of our vacation. Nevertheless, we would have liked a drink. Unfortunately, the service ignored us. So, we didn't, and we ate down in the valley.

The service is poor, the dishes are overpriced, and the quality of the food doesn't match the prices. The Kaiserschmarn tastes like it was cooked in the same fat as a schnitzel (that's how it was perceived by six people). I don't recommend visiting this restaurant!

The view and the restaurant are really nice, but the food and the prices are unfortunately the opposite. The waiter mixed up our orders (more than once), the asparagus soup we had was cold and more like pudding because it was far too thick, and the flavor was quite bland. The apple strudel was far too sweet, and the vanilla sauce was also pudding-like. We also had to wait quite a long time, even though it wasn't busy.

In short: disappointing food and service. Will choose a different hut next time.

Bad food and totally overpriced.

The waitress barely spoke German and didn't know the menu. After three questions and 30 minutes after ordering, my ice cream with hot raspberries arrived.

We wanted to stop at the Sonnenalm today. Unfortunately, the menu is only available digitally—that is, via a QR code. But when you can't see anything in the sunshine and with a weak signal, it's practically impossible to order anything. It would be so easy to hang up some printed menus... The fact that they only accepted card payments was the last straw for us, and we left without anything.

A disgrace, the idyll deceptively bad food! Fresh flowers, olive trees, and a dream view. We had reserved in advance for a company outing and were the only table. The wait staff were really grumpy, only to be told they only offered to download the menu digitally (not really possible with Wi-Fi or mobile), only to then learn that there was only a choice of three dishes (for breakfast). We agreed to that; the view was fantastic, and we were still in a great mood. But then things got really bad… 6 drinks (as the only guests) took forever and arrived way behind schedule! The food was even worse… the eggs (scrambled or fried) with fresh herbs were too old for the chives. The additional slices of bread we ordered were all stale, and the pretzel was at least two days old (totally soggy), and that with really high prices and small portions. And when there's a big event coming up, you think, what will they eat? I also witnessed an argument at the next table, where the customer was served extremely rudely. No cash – only card payments. No matter how beautiful the location is, give it a wide berth. Not worth a cent. Unfortunately. This place urgently needs to invest in fresh produce and better service, because otherwise the place makes a good impression both inside and out.

Were there for Mother's Day brunch. Unfortunately we were really disappointed here, especially because of the price/performance ratio. The brunch itself costs €75 per person (excluding the uphill/downhill journey). For this price you actually expect a lot more than what you get. Unfortunately, the buffet was far too small for the number of guests. In addition, you only get baked pretzels/rolls, half a glass of orange juice from the Tetra Pak, only 2 jams to choose from, condensed milk from the small containers at the table, the asparagus also ran out super quickly and there were guests who didn't get any and then you had to wait quite a long time for a refill. You also pay an extra €6.50 for tap water. Completely incomprehensible and rather outrageous in our eyes. Unfortunately once and never again. Very unfortunate. Our service employee Willi, on the other hand, was very attentive and made an effort.

Went to the Sonnenalm Kampenwand today. I ordered a snack plate. Some of it tasted miserable and I paid €25 for it. The bread and pretzels that came with it were also a few days old. Never again.

We only had one beer, but everyone else ordered lots of delicious things that were really nicely presented.

Unfortunately the brunch buffet was a failure. Price-performance is not right at all. The presentation of the food is more like a canteen. Unfortunately, nothing was made from the basic products, some of which were good. Location is great, modern and beautifully decorated, a carafe of sparkling water was ordered and two large waters were charged. If there is no lively water in the carafe then it should be said when ordering.

I can highly recommend this place. The location is fantastic, there are enough staff, the food is beautifully decorated and extremely tasty. Even the price-performance ratio is ok.

A mountain pasture to run away from… We wanted to stop here for lunch on a beautiful sunny day but we didn't even get to eat. On the Alm itself, only card payment is possible, there are no menus... everything only digitally via QR on your cell phone. This wouldn't be a problem in itself, but with regard to older people (two seniors at the next table fought with the QR code for 20 minutes) WiFi was available, but the connection didn't work and so it took forever until we could finally open the menu. Sometimes the classic version is the best... After a waiter finally took pity on taking our order, the big disappointment came. Half of the menu is not available at all!! Even cola and specials are not available and that at lunchtime! So we just had a drink and left. Given the exorbitantly high prices of the food (no dish under 20 euros), that was the better idea. The entire staff was consistently annoyed and demotivated. The only nice thing is the view, which doesn't make up for the whole series of negative aspects about this alpine pasture.

Menu via QR code, pay only by card. It will be Mokirt if you want to pay Ymit money. Excessive prices. Never again.

We took the cable car up for breakfast. The view over the mountains is a dream. The breakfast was ok.

Unsuitable for an alpine retreat. If you're looking forward to a snack after the climb, you might lose your appetite given the heavily salted prices on the menu. We were happy to leave the restaurant without having achieved anything.

Never again!!! The buffet is set up on a small table, 2 meters long and 40 cm wide, for 50 people. The waiting time in line was 19 minutes. Four people sit together on each side of the table. Everyone has to get up several times because it is also a bench and not chairs. The prices...they're totally crazy. E.g. a cup of tea costs 8 euros. Interior with lots of wood, looks very nice. The view is great. But for the money, definitely not again!!!!!!

Discriminatory access, price-performance completely disproportionate: In this inn, children and seniors learn: Cash doesn't count, only the (charged) cell phone is important: only digital payments are accepted. The menu can only be read using the QR code and only with consent to the data being passed on! Alcohol is better because it is cheaper than the juices and water on offer.

The only positive thing is the outlook. The prices are totally overpriced. There isn't much choice and you can't change an order. You can't order fries extra, only with chicken nuggets. And then you get 2 nuggets for €11.80. I only give 1 star because you can't give 0. Service totally unfriendly. I will never visit this Alm again.

The premises are nice. The times it takes for someone to come and for you to receive your food after ordering are too long. It's better not to count the ice cream scoops in your iced coffee - otherwise you'll find out that you only get 50%. No cash payment, menu preferred online (the guests at the neighboring table without a smartphone had to ask for a menu 3 times) Overall, even with few visitors, it seemed overloaded.

Unfortunately not recommended. The service was grumpy and not service-oriented. Questions were rudely dismissed with reference to the map instead of being answered. There were no vegan options - not even fries (although as a side dish to a dish on the menu) could be ordered separately. According to my companion, the quality of the food was disappointing and too expensive for what was offered (e.g. Kaiserschmarrn with a distinct schnitzel fat taste for €17.90). The culinary offering was neither that of a traditional mountain hut nor that of a restaurant that could justify its high prices with appropriate quality. In addition, only card payment is possible and the menu can only be accessed via QR code, which is problematic if reception is weak. Anyone who follows a modern concept should also consistently implement this in terms of variety of food and service. Our group will definitely not visit this restaurant again.

Completely overpriced disaster.

Absolute impudence. Only benefit from the location and the fact that they are the only open hut. Prices are crazy! We then decided on a snack platter (€25). Had to wait 45 minutes for this. And what's more, the record was just a joke and had nothing to do with a Bavarian snack!

We went for a bite to eat in the morning at the start of the hike into the valley. The ambience and the view are good. The quality of the food too But: Completely exorbitant prices! A snack bed with 2 slices of salami, 1 slice of cooked ham, 20g of liver sausage and 2 mini pieces of cheese for €24.50 is almost extortionate... Even though there wasn't much going on, we had to wait almost 30 minutes for the food.

We've been coming here for 7 years. For the last time. We waited 1 hour for 2x Kaiserschmarrn and 1x gnocchi. We asked, then the Kaiserschmarrn came and we had to wait another 10 minutes for the last dish. The restaurant wasn't fully occupied. The gnocchi were good, but not great in taste. But the joke is that there should be asparagus stalks in it: 2 pieces of approx. 1cm each. The third, even smaller piece was returned to the kitchen as a greeting. For €21.80... ok, great view, tourist season, staff costs, but no, not like that.

The view is crazy as are the prices for the food. That was my most expensive Kaiserschmarrn ever! Just under 20 euros. Our waitress was very nice, but I noticed how another waitress reacted to guests' request to sit alone at a table. The lady was really annoyed and clearly showed it. But she later apologized. In the future I will research in advance which hut I will stop at.

Unfriendly service and bad food at completely exorbitant prices. The Kaiserschmarrn for just under €20 was by far the worst I've ever eaten and incredibly fatty (vegetable oil, no butter). The schnitzel for just under €28 was tough, greasy, tasteless and the breading was limp. The waitress largely ignored us even when we asked politely, even though there were hardly any guests there, and was only friendly when paying at once.

Absolutely disappointing. The prices are outrageously high for what is on offer. The service? Unfriendly and rude. A simple question about the choice of tea is brushed off with an annoyed “It’s on the menu” – customer friendliness looks different. The menu is extremely poor, especially for vegetarians. If you don't like asparagus, you have exactly one option: Kaiserschmarren. However, it tasted suspiciously like schnitzel - probably from the same pan. No understanding of special requests, no smile, no welcome. For me it's a clear case of: once and never again.

Service not very attentive, food very expensive (schnitzel with fried potatoes for €23.90, which you can get at other huts with cable car access for around €17.90). Schnitzel was not of high quality (limp) but the potatoes were very juicy! The view is of course great! Hence 2 stars. Note: you can tell that this hut is not designed for hikers, but for a more affluent day clientele.

Small, narrow and low room. The food is good.

We stopped off after hiking or sat on the terrace because dogs are not allowed inside. Soup (Flädlesuppe) for €12 is quite an announcement and unfortunately much too cold. Prices at other huts that don't even have a cable car next door are lower, so I was very surprised at the prices here. There was no vegetarian choice either. Too bad.

A wonderful place with beautiful views and good food.

The restaurant is a real putri, if you can call it that. The selection is also larger in my home fridge. It's good to have a little view, that's all. The prices do not reflect the quality. There are better places than this. If you have paid the expensive parking meter, you can take the kettebahn, which also does not treat your wallet well. A family of three should be prepared in such a way that they will leave a few memories there and the experience will be unforgettable.

The service at this place is extremely slow and the staff is rude. I waited for 45 minutes. All the waitresses kept telling me that someone else would serve me. Eventually they started ignoring me. It didn't just happen to me, but to other people around me who started leaving without ever being served. I do not recommend this place, the food is too expensive for the bad service they give. The only good thing about this place is the views.

Nach 2 1/2 stündiger Wanderung von Aschau hab ich mich auf Kaffee und Essen gefreut. Denkste: nur Kartenzahlung möglich. Hier kriegt man nix für gutes Geld.

Service a disaster. We were 4 adults with 4 children, people exhaled in annoyance when we entered the restaurant with the children. Our children sat at the table well the whole time. Staff seemed annoyed that we were even there. The conditions were grumpy and unfriendly. We had ordered schnitzel with potato salad from the menu, but without saying anything we received fries. Only when we asked were we told that the potato salad was empty. It's not a problem for us if something is not in stock, but a note when ordering would be very helpful. The view is breathtaking and the only positive thing about the SonnenAlm.

The view and the service are wonderful. And the price-performance ratio is great, so I can say that about the drinks because we didn't eat anything :^)

We didn't stop at the restaurant so I can't rate the service. The views from there are very tempting to stop at least for a coffee. The queue service was very nice :)

The location is great... Service is okay... At this time of year, it's absolutely not worth visiting the Sonnenalm. There's virtually no food selection. Three different soups, fries, fish sticks, and yeast dumplings. That's it! And the staff aren't particularly motivated either. You don't feel welcome!!

Insanely great view just great and very friendly staff

It's a shame that the side dishes can't be changed. So, you can only order fries with fish sticks, but not a portion of fries on their own. The boss seems very strict. Otherwise, the view is very nice, and the service is very friendly. Only card payments are accepted.

Great view. Unfortunately, the alpine pasture has a very limited menu, and there were no snacks, which is something you'd expect at an alpine pasture. Still, it's still recommended.

The mountain brunch is far too expensive. Far too little for the money. Very disappointing. Never again.

I can only agree with the other (bad) reviews...I've rarely experienced anything like this. We and our neighbors were looking forward to Kaiserschmarrn, the kind you'd normally find at any mountain hut, but no chance...it wasn't available, we were told without giving a reason. As consolation, we were offered a schnapps, but even that wasn't available. According to the waitress, "the machine is broken," we can just let it go.

Update February 2025: The hotel is now taking action against bad reviews. This review was initially removed and republished after an appeal. The management's behavior is awful. Original review: We stayed there overnight. The prices are outrageous, and service is underrated. When we left a very expensive electric toothbrush there, they supposedly left it at the cable car. But we never got it back. This just goes to show how indifferent they were. The location is great, but the management definitely needs to be replaced. It's a real shame.

Not recommended from any customer or service perspective!

A disaster, never again! In my opinion, the Alm benefits solely from its fantastic location! BUT: The service and food are incredibly bad! This was already our second visit and definitely the last! After the first visit, we gave it another try. But even on the second visit, it was a complete disaster. By far the worst Kaiserschmarrn we've ever been served. With lemon ice cream and plum compote. What a joke! Other guests had already warned us, but if only we had listened... Every snack bar offers better taste, service, and friendliness!

We had specifically reserved a table with three (small) dogs – and had also been confirmed that we would be given one of the three dog tables. When we arrived, no one wanted to hear about a reservation. In the entrance area, there are two tables with very awkward chairs (as high as bar stools) for dogs. We were then assigned one of these tables. The waitress would have preferred us to sit on the terrace. However, since we had planned to have a hot lunch, it was too cold and windy outside. Since there were only three venison dishes (no soup, salad, or a snack) and butter pretzels, we decided to switch to coffee and cake. Unfortunately, Robert's much-praised cheesecake was also sold out – they only had yeast dumplings! So I was looking forward to the local buttermilk – although, as the waitress informed us, it's only available in summer. ``` All in all, a culinary disaster, as hardly any of the dishes listed on the menu (downloadable with a QR code) were available! A real shame, because the location is unique with a truly amazing view! Conclusion: Bring your own snacks and drinks and take a break on a hiking trail. There are restrooms at the top and bottom of the gondolas. We can't comment on overnight accommodations, as we only made it a day trip.

Overpriced. Wiener schnitzel from pork 27.50... children's food was out, even though there was hardly anyone there. Never again.... there is no such thing as a simple portion of pommes for children. Only with fish fingers... if the four of us hadn't gone up for 73.50, I would have left...
