Update Feb 2025: The hotel is now taking action against bad reviews. This review was initially removed and republished after an objection. Management's behavior is revealing. Original review: We stayed there overnight. The prices are outrageous and service is a priority here. When we bought a very expensive electric... If you forgot your toothbrush there, it was supposedly handed over to the cable car. But you never got it back. This shows again how much they didn't care. The location is great, but the management definitely needs to be replaced. Really a shame.

Not recommended from any customer and service perspective!

Disaster, never again! In my opinion, the Alm only benefits from its fantastic location! BUT: Service and food is incredibly bad! It was our second visit and definitely the last! After the first visit we gave it another chance. But even on the second visit it was a complete failure. By far the worst Kaiserschmarrn we have ever been served. With lemon ice cream and plum compote. What a joke! Other guests have already warned us that we would have listened... Every snack bar offers better taste, service and friendliness!

We had specially reserved a table with 3 (small) dogs - and were also confirmed that we would get one of the 3 dog tables. When we arrived, no one wanted to know anything about a reservation. In the entrance area there are 2 tables with very awkward chairs (as high as bar stools) for dogs. We were then assigned one of these tables. The waitress would have preferred us to sit on the terrace. But since we had planned to have a warm lunch, it was too cold and windy outside for us. But since there were only 3 deer dishes (neither soup nor salad or a snack) and buttered pretzels, we wanted to switch to coffee and cake. Unfortunately, Robert's much-vaunted cheesecake was also gone - there were only yeast dumplings left! So I was looking forward to the buttermilk from the region - although it is only available in summer, as the waitress said. All in all, a culinary disaster, as hardly any of the dishes that were on the menu (which can be downloaded with a QR code) were available! It's a real shame because the location is unique with a really great view! Conclusion: Bring your own snack and drinks and take a break on a hiking trail. There are toilets at the top and bottom of the gondolas. We can't say anything about the overnight accommodation as we went on a day trip.

Way too expensive, no choice in food. Slow staff even though there was nothing going on. Not recommended. It's better to take something with you yourself.

Overpriced. Wiener schnitzel from pork 27.50... children's food was out, even though there was hardly anyone there. Never again.... there is no such thing as a simple portion of pommes for children. Only with fish fingers... if the four of us hadn't gone up for 73.50, I would have left...

Unfortunately, after the hut that I actually wanted to visit was closed (even though the internet and the parking lot said it was open), I hiked to the Sonnenalm and couldn't believe my eyes when I read that only card payment was possible. It is unacceptable for restaurants, especially on mountains at this altitude, to deny guests food and drink because they do not accept cash. This is negligent!!! I don't even want to talk about the prices. What a disgrace!!! I cannot recommend the Sonnenalm

It's a real shame that the price and performance at this great location with a cinematic view are absolutely not right. When you eat, what you ordered is not served. If you point this out, you become a problem yourself. You have to pay for a breakfast for €23, which is included in the price according to the booking confirmation, the next day. When asked, the boss responded by explaining that the booking confirmation was incorrect. A discussion was not possible because afterwards she simply ran away. The buffet is not replenished, even though many guests are queuing hungry. Given this working atmosphere, it doesn't surprise me at all that the staff is sometimes unfriendly and not very committed. I was there for a party, the staff worked until 4 a.m. and again at 7 a.m. the next morning. There don't seem to be any legal rest periods on the mountain. I will not come back and will expressly not recommend the Sonnenalm.

Unfortunately the visit was a total failure. 2 mini schnitzels for 27 euros! The 3 mini nuggets came about 20 minutes after the schnitzel. I can't recommend it any further for these completely exorbitant prices...

Not recommended. Children's portion for 10€. 3 nuggets and a handful of fries. Only fries not possible upon request? Dogs are not welcome and must stay outside. Card only via QR code. But this doesn't matter because the courts don't exist anyway. Enjoy the view and bring something yourself 👌

You have a wonderful view from the SonnenAlm terrace. Unfortunately, the food and drink menu is quite atypical for a hut and some of the food/drinks were no longer available.

A very, very great hut, very modern and equipped. Location right next to the cable car. We were here a few years ago, unfortunately little has changed since then. Staff wasn't really interested in actively approaching us as guests, 7 waitresses were bored. Food very high quality and expensive, selection of dishes very limited, payment only possible by card. In my opinion, good Bavarian affordable cuisine would be the right way. The owner/tenant has to decide for themselves

Landlord HATES cash! The prices are at the upper pain limit. For a beer €4.90, for a cup of warm chocolate €5.10. This gets the most out of customers. The ambience of the mountain house is pleasantly alpine-style. But this is also because the previous building burned down completely. The insurance company apparently paid lavishly for the damage. The service staff is very friendly and quick, the Maxlreiner beer is tasty and the toilet facilities are clean. However, we were horrified when we found out that in the inn at an altitude of 1500 m you can ONLY pay with a cash card. Is the innkeeper deserted by all good spirits? It promotes the abolition of cash, which many woke politicians are pushing for. 80% OF GERMAN PEOPLE DON'T WANT THAT. YOU DON'T WANT EVERY FINANCIAL TRANSACTION, NO matter how small, to be traced by authorities, the tax office, politicians, employers, health insurance companies, curious neighbors, WIFE OR HUSBAND. At least you want to have the choice, whether cash or card. What happens when you trust the STATE with data is what we are currently experiencing with the EPA electronic health record. As expected, the STATE did not handle the data in a trustworthy manner. All patient data, all illnesses, from cancer to diarrhea, allergies, drugs or tobacco consumption, everything, everything, can now be viewed worldwide by anyone about every German whose data has been or is being hacked. Insurance companies and employers have always dreamed of this. Finally finding out what risks the insurance customer has or what addictions the employee has. SONNENALM saw me for the last time.

The location of this alpine pasture and the design of the building are very beautiful. But that was it. The service was a huge mess when we were there. The wrong food was brought or food was forgotten several times. The prices are steep (okay for the location), but unfortunately the quality of the food is disproportionate to the prices.

Per: Sunny, great view Good coffee Cons: Absolutely unsuitable for people with intolerances. The allergen menu is as of 2018, the menu with the app filter doesn't filter really reliably, I have a gluten intolerance and all beers were still shown to me. For me the standard would have been salad with fries. There was no salad that day and the fries are only sold in conjunction with another dish. Quote from the waitress: the boss doesn't like it when the fries are sold separately. The waitress wanted to ask the boss, but she probably forgot. So there was only a coffee and what I had brought with me. At least no one had anything against it or probably no one noticed. You can only pay by card, but that's one of the smaller disadvantages. From what I heard, the food here was cold, although I didn't eat any because there was nothing for me. The coffee was sufficiently warm.

Waitress was friendly, that was it... this place was underground.

Nice location but… Very manageable menu that can only be viewed via mobile phone by scanning the QR code. This requires an internet connection, which is not available. WiFi is provided, but it is completely overloaded. The service seemed overwhelmed and uncoordinated. About the menu: there are four main courses, a soup and a salad. That's it. All of this at completely exorbitant prices when you see what you get for it. The goulash we ordered (for €27.50) was okay, but not a highlight. The schnitzel Viennese style (for €27.50), which was definitely not homemade and tasted subterranean. The children's menu is also very manageable with two dishes. The food for our child came at the end, as did the other two dishes, about 5-10 minutes apart. So eating together was not possible. Admittedly, it was very crowded. However, that shouldn't be the guest's problem. The division of the tables is also rather impractical. Around 10 people, or even more, can fit at one table. So, as in our case, the table was shared with two other families. A real waste of money.

We actually wanted to order something to drink. After being ignored for 20 minutes we left again. Great view, service clearly room for improvement.

Location and vintage train very nice. Service is far from on point. Food ok - but clearly overpriced. Drinks price/performance ok.

The location is great but everything else is more of a disaster. The prices are also a disgrace for what you get. Then go to the Steinlingalm, which is only 30 minutes away.

The view is nice, but the restaurant is overpriced and you can't get anything without a credit card! Feels more like a scam than hospitality. I definitely won't go in there again. It's better to eat your own snack in nature.

We went for St. Nicholas brunch, the food was okay - although you can expect more for the price. But what I found much more unpleasant was the icy cold in the dining room. They assured us several times that the heating had now been switched on. The radiator was still cold at 2 p.m. and most of the guests sat eating with hot tea and blankets. Even if the restaurant was previously closed, a room of that size must be heated a day in advance. The decoration was very attractive, but not a single candle was burning and the fire was out. Not satisfactory for the price.

Very good ice creams, to be enjoyed on the terrace, with a view of the surrounding mountains.

A nice trip to the Kampenwand would be crowned with a Swiss meat salad and a white wine. The staff doesn't speak much German and the word itself is a bit grumpy, as is his wife. She complained loudly about the staff in front of the guests. You don't have to do it. The food was good. The wine chilled. And I was full. The view and the peace are simply heavenly and the bells of the cows underline this even more.

What can you say? For me it was a challenge going up there because I'm afraid of heights. Once I made it, it was beautiful. I'm so proud. You have to go up there if you're nearby. Simply great 😃

The Alm is modern and beautifully furnished. The view is incredible. The “rest”: catastrophic. Were there 2 weeks ago. The prices are completely excessive, service is non-existent and long, very long waiting times. Then just card payment and the menu via QR code. There is another hut 15 minutes away...

12.00 euros for a small apple strudel with 3 tablespoons of vanilla sauce - that even exceeds all prices in the Arlberg, Kitzbühel and Obertauern 😢 When I settled the bill, it was clear to me why there were no cards on the table 😉

After half an hour there was no service

It's a shame that on the holiday (11/01/24) the team had to prepare a big event. In the most beautiful sunshine, there were masses of visitors on the Kampenwand. The rush to the Alm was enormous. But, there were only three dishes! The staff was totally overwhelmed in view of the masses, but still friendly. It's a shame, maybe it will work next time.

Today after the hike I went to the Sonnenalm to get something to eat. Yeast dumplings and a small cola. The yeast dumpling wasn't even lukewarm and there was almost no vanilla sauce on it. When I asked the waitress she didn't respond. I then brought the whole thing back into the kitchen myself and no one asked me if they should heat it up. It was then simply canceled when paying. Not to mention the prices. A 0.2 liter Cola 4, 20 euros. The service inattentive. A guest received food but no cutlery. He complained about it but nothing happened. He then got one himself at the next table. Apparently everyone is overwhelmed or doesn't feel like it. There are completely different huts there. They won't see me again

Very friendly and fast service. The Kaiserschmarrn is very tasty and sufficient. There is also pistachio iron and plum jam. The view is breathtaking.

The service in the Sonnenalm is a disaster! We waited 40 minutes for a piece of cherry pie to be brought to us. When some guests had legitimate complaints, they were addressed by the waiter. You should be calm and not be annoying. But the main thing is that everything is very stylish.

Perfect location a few steps from the mountain station with a beautiful view of the mountain panorama. Unfortunately there was only coffee, no cappuccino or anything like that. I didn't eat anything because the prices were totally exorbitant. You can already see this on a board at the entrance. Menu via QR code, which didn't work for me despite being connected to WiFi. The service was friendly, but I had to wait a long time before I could pay. Conclusion: Enjoy the view on the bench in front of it and hike for 15 minutes to the next hut.

You can only pay by card. OK for me, maybe not for others. A bit inflexible with food. The prices are high, perhaps a little too high for what is on offer. A (!) Viennese with roll was 6.90. Check out the prices beforehand.

Als erstes ist zu bemerken, dass es zu dieses Restaurant zweimal auf Tripadvisor gibt. Anscheinend hat man einen zweiten Account angelegt, da die Bewertungen bei dem ersten so schlecht waren...leider können wir diese auf diesem auch nicht besser machen... Wir hatten eigentlich einen schönen Ausflug auf die Kampenwand geplant bei herrlichstem Herbstwetter und sind mit wunderbarer Laune gestartet. Um die Mittagszeit am Gipfel angekommen, entschlossen wir uns zu einer Einkehr in die Sonnenalm und haben Platz genommen. Erstmal waren wir schon nicht amüsiert darüber die Speise- und Getränkekarte nur mit dem Handy über das Scannen des QR-Codes lesen zu können. Auf einem Berg ist meist das WLan nicht so prickelnd und wenn das Kundenklientel nicht zwangsweise ein Smartphone besitzt, auch etwas schwierig. Die nächste Hürde, die man als Gast nehmen muss, ist die Bezahlung: Eine reine Kartenzahlung finden wir an Veranstaltungsorten schon nicht besonders gut, aber in luftiger Höhe sehr grenzwertig. Trotzdem ließen wir uns bisher noch nicht die Laune verderben und haben uns eine Brotzeit ausgesucht. Nach ca. 15 Minuten des Wartens kam ein Herr (wir schätzen mal, dass das eine Bedienung war) der den Gästen höflich mitteilte, dass es heute nur eine eingeschränkte Speisekarte gibt und alle verfügbaren Gerichte auf der Tafel am Haupteingang stehen würden...naja, auch merkwürdig, aber ging immer noch. Leider machte der Herr keine Anstalten unsere Getränkewünsche oder sonstiges aufzunehmen und zog wieder von dannen. Immer noch mutig und hoffnungsvoll machte sich mein Mann auf zur Tafel am Haupteingang, die leider sehr schnell gelesen war. Aufgrund der fehlenden Auswahl entschieden wir uns nur eine Heiße Schokolade trinken zu wollen. Die Minuten verstrichen und endlich kam eine junge Bedienung zu uns an den Tisch und fragte sehr unfreundlich und völlig genervt mit einem Gesicht wie sieben Tage Regenwetter, ob wir denn schon bestellt hätten (bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt hatte noch niemand von den umliegenden Gästen bestellen können...deswegen fanden wir die Frage schon sehr seltsam...). Wir bestellen dann endlich unsere Heiße Schokolade...Yipiiehhh...dachten wir, endlich am Ziel und den wunderschönen Ausblick genießen!...aber leicht gefehlt...Die nun noch unfreundlicher werdende Dame teilte uns mit, dass es aktuell nur Tee, Kaffee...gäbe, da die Schankanlage gereinigt würde...was die Schankanlage mit heißer Schokolade zu tun hat, wissen wir bis heute noch nicht und wer schon in der Gastronomie gearbeitet hat, weiß, dass man auf gar keinen Fall zur Mittagszeit die Schankanlage reinigt...insofern...naja, das wars dann von unserer Seite und wir verabschiedeten uns dann von der Dame, die dann richtig pampig wurde, weil wir gingen...hier war dann leider auch unsere Geduld zu Ende und wir machten der Dame klar, dass das ganze Verhalten nicht besonders geschäftsfördernd ist. Kurz und knapp: Den einen Punkt erhält die Sonnenalm für den herrlichen Ausblick, wofür die Gastronomie aber eigentlich nichts kann. Der Rest ist so unterirdisch kundenunfreundlich (digitale Speisekarten, nur Kartenzahlung möglich und das Personal) dass wir empfehlen sich lieber selbst eine Jause mitzubringen und nicht in die Nähe des Lokals zu gehen, da einem hier ein toller Ausflug richtig vermiest werden kann.

Too expensive with very unfriendly service. When you arrive in hiking clothes and a backpack, you get strange looks. Apparently the only way to get here is to get dressed up and get off the gondola directly from Munich...

The view was perfect and the staff was friendly and quick. Nevertheless, after five hours of hiking, you couldn't get any food there without being announced, which disappointed me. The beer glass was also only half full.

Ate delicious goulash soup and the service was very friendly, despite it being very busy.

Bad service and mediocre food. However, prices are the same as in Munich city center. 60 minutes for fish fingers with fries - even if a child is hungry after the hike. All this on a Monday!!! Simply continue on to the Steinlingalm.

Unfriendly, overwhelmed staff and very expensive. Map can only be accessed via cell phone - if you guessed that you have to connect to the WiFi (no cell phone reception). Card payment ONLY! All without words… (actually).

Left again after 10 minutes because I was annoyed. - Only card payment possible - Waited 10 minutes for waiter - Drink not filled to the full - expensive food - Map online or on a board (when asked if it had the same food on it, the answer was “ACTUALLY” 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️). - Weisswürste only until 11:30 although it wasn't obvious with all these wannabe modern art. Conclusion: you can do without me in the future. You probably want just one star ⭐️ 😉

The SonnenAlm on the Kampenwand is a beautiful and modern restaurant with a beautiful view. However, not everything that glitters is gold: - Menu only available digitally (QR code) - no attention from the service staff, we showed our gratitude several times, but to no avail - Drink order was only taken after about 25 minutes - Food came after 20 minutes and after 45 minutes - We were denied another drink order - Even for the bill we waited more than 20 minutes In summary: great on the outside, poor on the inside - then it's better to continue hiking for 10 minutes to the next alpine pasture

I've been there a few times, unfortunately always waiting forever. Prices are also overpriced. Completely understaffed and disorganized on a sunny Sunday at lunchtime. All food was out at 1:30 p.m., drinks took more than 30 minutes. Will be avoided in the future - you just have to be annoyed. Addendum on 10/26/24: Been there again for years because the hungry son insisted on immediate Kaiserschmarrn. 😂 Conclusion: 17.90 euros for biscuit dough from the tray. At least it tasted exactly like that. When asked, it was said that it “was always sizzled out fresh in the pan”. (I'm just wondering how the chef gets the nice square pieces). Either way: not a hit in terms of taste. Most of the staff still have a bad attitude and zero happiness on their faces. Maybe it's the lack of salary or the tips because only card payment. It is and remains an overpriced tourist hut that is best avoided.

Nice mountain inn with friendly staff, good menu and great views

We booked a mountain brunch. 69€ is a proud sum, which unfortunately the food didn't do justice to. The view is fantastic and the service is ok. Unfortunately it wasn't worth €69 in my opinion, as even the ups and downs are still on top. Expensive fun for a “time out”.

The view is of course beautiful and the service was good too. But it wasn't extremely busy either. However, the prices are grossly overpriced! I didn't eat anything because I don't understand paying €19 for a sausage salad.

We were there to eat, the Kaiserschmarren is highly recommended, combined with the view it was worth the trip. Thanks for the experience.

Food like it comes from a gas station at completely absurd prices. Schnitzel TK for 25€. Again...

Apart from the location there is nothing good to say about the restaurant. Not suitable with children, there is a children's meal, fish fingers with chips. The service staff are so inflexible that you can't even cancel the fish fingers. We ordered 3 dishes and they came 15 minutes apart. Which restaurant please doesn't bring the order to the tables in a bunch. If you don't like Adelle, you can look forward to constant sound from the artist. I've only ever seen waitresses in sweatpants here. We won't see this restaurant twice.

We stopped there after hiking. We drank coffee and ate cake. The cheesecake is highly recommended! We found the Sonnen Alm very cozy, wonderfully bright and very comfortably furnished. The waitress was also very nice. We can't rate the rooms/hotel because we didn't stay there overnight. I would always go up there just to have a coffee, it's definitely a great view. We had fog that day. All in all, you have to experience it!

We ate there today after a cable car ride. The restaurant thrives on its monopoly and its location in exactly this spot. The view is fantastic and everything is modern, unfortunately with a few catches and negative experiences that we had. It's nice if you make the map available purely digitally, but if your home's WiFi is extremely slow and cell phone reception is close to zero, that's of little use. The reference to a hand-written sign on which the menu could be read doesn't help much; after all, you don't want to have to walk across the restaurant several times to order if in doubt. The food itself was poor in selection, extremely steep in price and average to poor in taste. The sausage salad was swimming in vinegar, the fries had never touched any salt, the yeast dumpling was off the shelf. With prices of over ten euros for one of the two children's meals and upwards of 16 euros for the main meals (not really much choice), that's less than not enough. The staff can't score either. We never experienced any friendliness; the waiters didn't smile much, seemed rushed and didn't seem like they enjoyed working there. Nor were they all sufficiently proficient in the German language. The fact that in the end there was only card payment as an option is almost the least of the problems, but also a factor. At least we weren't asked to give tips - the restaurant didn't deserve any. Actually a star. The second was only for the view, the modern furnishings and the cold drinks.

The Alm is in a beautiful place, but in my opinion it is completely overpriced for what you get. Card payment only and no paper menus available. The menu has to be accessed with your cell phone using a QR code, but logically there is no network up there... so you have to log in to the alm's WiFi. But it's so lame that it feels like it takes forever for the map to appear. I just wanted a portion of fries for my daughter, but this wasn't possible, so I had to take the children's dish (only one on the menu). This dish consists of fish fingers with fries…. There is no vegetarian alternative and I can't order fries individually either. If I want fries, do I have to take fish fingers with fries?! We won't come back again, more of a flop after a long hike...

Unfortunately, my first visit will also be my last. I have to say: "unfortunately there is no self-service!" We first sat down in an area that was subsequently closed off, "No service is served here!" We then sat at a table with nice people and sat there for about half an hour until the waiter came to the table for the first time. At the table, a single lady should have paid for two Kaiserschmarrn. The predecessors at the table had ordered the second one, but never received it and left. Since we were just thirsty, we just wanted to order drinks. The waiter refused to take the order, saying he had to “take care of guests” first. The others at the table paid for their food as soon as it was received. Only possible with card! The waiter wanted the tip in cash. Unfortunately there was not the slightest regret from the waiter, so perhaps one could be understanding. Of course we left, as did two other empty tables at the same time, and ended the day downstairs in the beautiful Café Pauli. Conclusion: completely overwhelmed, non-existent service and unfriendly at the same time, you don't need that. This would-be Alm has nothing in common with the numerous other rustic, family-friendly huts in our region.

Service and organization absolutely bad. The beautiful autumn weather was announced and everyone was still overwhelmed. After waiting for 30 minutes, you can't even order a drink from the waiter...

Was disappointed with this location. First point, no printed menu. Not everyone walks around with a cell phone. Second point, no cash payment. ???? Third point, overpriced. Apple strudel €11.80, Kaiserschmarrn over €17. Too bad. During my holiday in South Tyrol I ate very good apple strudel and Kaiserschmarn at several huts and mountain pastures, but it was a third cheaper and there was more on the plate.

The service was very unfriendly. 3/4 of the dishes were not available. As an allergy sufferer it was not possible at all to adapt a meal. A request to simply get fries would be rejected. You have to take a whole menu. Although you can't eat half of it. The drinks size was a joke. A Sprite 0.2 was 3 euros

We stopped there after our hike. The service was very attentive. However, our meal took a while and we were forgotten. After a short inquiry, our food arrived quickly. My husband really enjoyed the tomato bread with fried egg. My Kaiserschmarrn was also very tasty. The only thing I was missing was the raisins and the bowl of plum compote contained one plum and a maximum of a tablespoon of compote, which I found to be too little for the price.

A great place, with a beautiful sun terrace. You need a cell phone to view the menu and only card payment is possible. Food was very good, price performance was right. Staff very friendly.

4 people on Wednesday, October 9th, 2024. 3/4th occupancy when we left. 1/4th when we came. The service is OK. The prices are high. The Kaiser Schmarrn was edible, but not that sparkling. Simply horrible for a facility in such a wonderful place! If all the employees are like the two who "served" us, nothing surprises me anymore, not even the reviews so far! Unfriendly, arrogant and contempt for customers are not exaggerations! And at the end, put a board down to remember to tip! It's cheeky to "demand" a tip after such service! "Most of the guests are not regular customers and only come once anyway, so the friendly service up there doesn't have to be so necessary" is roughly what an employee of the Kampenwand Bahn said! We certainly wouldn't go there again if we visited this great area again!

Unfortunately my visit to this restaurant was a huge disappointment. The service was virtually non-existent and the staff was extremely rude. What was particularly unpleasant was that the waiter insisted on a tip even though I could only pay by card. My suggestion to charge the tip to the card was rejected. The quality of the food was also disappointing. The cocoa tasted watery, the apple strudel was cold even though I specifically ordered it warm, and the Kaiserschmarren was extremely dry. Although the view is nice, I absolutely cannot recommend this restaurant. The prices bear no relation to the service offered - simply an outrage. Also proof that I was there too (see pictures)

We sat down for a cookie and coffee. First I wanted Orangeschorle, but it wasn't so I asked for coffee. I wanted a cookie, which is why the waiter came back to tell us that unfortunately it was sold out, so we ordered Kaiserschmaren, but the waiter came out again to say that we had Apfelstrudel, which was very delicious. Because of this, the service was a disappointment, but the view and the cookies made up for it. I would have been happy if the menu was not only available online, because we didn't have enough space.

I would like to describe my very ambivalent stay (with an overnight stay) at the Sonnenalm on the Kampenwand, which unfortunately coincides with what others left as an impression and which I find very sad. If you arrive when the weather is good and the sun is setting, the dining area is really impressive and very high quality and Tamara was a wonderful hostess/waitress who had time for us due to the few guests, even though there was still a lot of preparation to be done and she was alone! This is important to me to say! Now comes the big “but”: I paid over €250 for a small double room (WITHOUT my own toilet!) for single occupancy, which is quite a sum. So I also expected what I saw downstairs in the room upstairs in the guest rooms in some form. What really impressed me below simply disappointed me above. The rooms are okay, but nothing more. There are two shower foams in the hallway, each with two showers and two toilets, one for men and one for women. To make my point very clear: One night before I was able to book a simple but very comfortable and beautiful four-bed room in the Hochrieshütte for single use for around €60.00 WITH its own toilet/washroom and everything was new! I thought the idea of ​​the Sonnenalm with the double rooms under the roof with a view of the stars (as advertised) was very nice, but it wasn't more than an idea. The small roof window directly above one half of the bed (so no looking at the sky together!) showed obvious water damage and was not clean, the “chamber” (double room) was rather carelessly designed and was really extremely narrow (no space for anything ) and there wasn't even a night lamp by the bed. Total contrast to the equipment below! You can't spend more than €250 a night for something like that (despite half board). But the price is set by the owners, okay. Seems to be working. My clear recommendation would be something else: take a hike on the Kampenwand, stop at one of the other alpine pastures along the way or a little further up and then back down into the valley. Overnight guests and hikers just don't seem to be the focus of this cabin. Maybe just leave it alone and focus on optimizing the catering industry.

Bad service, unfriendly, food miserable and expensive.

Since 2003 we have been traveling to the Kampenwand and thus up to the Sonnenalm once a year. It has been modernized again and again over the years and has constantly improved. The prices for food and drinks have not increased exorbitantly either. A visit is always worth it. We like being here. We traveled here again in 2024, but this time we were disappointed. Although a lot has been done and improved in the outdoor area, the service has declined significantly. Many older people missed the printed menu. The waitress didn't give the impression that she enjoyed working here. Only a nice young woman who served us gave the Alm some of the sunshine. The food, on the other hand, was subpar, the schnitzel was fried to death and had no taste at all, the fried meat turned out to be fried chicken nuggets. In addition, the iced tea and duck brawn that were offered were not available at all. Last but not least, you have to say that the prices for such terrible food are not justified.

Went to the Sonnenalm today...The salad with the baked mushrooms...well: you could have stuck a wooden handle in and hammered nails into a wall. Totally hard. And the Kaiserschnarrn didn't knock me off my feet either. Waiting time 40 minutes. And then there was something that was very “brown” and tasteless on both sides. Normally the egg whites are separated and folded in. Then it becomes fluffy. It was definitely out of the bag...

Beautiful view. Unfortunately we couldn't enjoy anything. Only card payment is accepted. Too bad. We were able to eat and drink in the Möslhütte without any problems. Also good. Cash payment no problem.

That was an absolute failure, the card could only be read via the QR code...not possible for my older companions. Pay only by card...an absolute turn-off on the mountain. Someone probably wanted to be particularly innovative again. Food is small but prices are huge...never again
