Unfortunately, the only thing worth mentioning here is that the location is perfect. A beautiful mountain view in clear weather. Unfortunately, the service and the food are absolutely not recommended.

It's a shame that on the holiday (11/01/24) the team had to prepare a big event. In the most beautiful sunshine, there were masses of visitors on the Kampenwand. The rush to the Alm was enormous. But, there were only three dishes! The staff was totally overwhelmed in view of the masses, but still friendly. It's a shame, maybe it will work next time.

The view is nice, but the restaurant is overpriced and you can't get anything without a menu! Feels more like a scam than hospitality. I definitely won't go in there again. It's better to eat your own snack in nature.

Very friendly and fast service. The Kaiserschmarrn is very tasty and sufficient. There is also pistachio iron and plum jam. The view is breathtaking.

Today after the hike I went to the Sonnenalm to get something to eat. Yeast dumplings and a small cola. The yeast dumpling wasn't even lukewarm and there was almost no vanilla sauce on it. When I asked the waitress she didn't respond. I then brought the whole thing back into the kitchen myself and no one asked me if they should heat it up. It was then simply canceled when paying. Not to mention the prices. A 0.2 liter Cola 4, 20 euros. The service inattentive. A guest received food but no cutlery. He complained about it but nothing happened. He then got one himself at the next table. Apparently everyone is overwhelmed or doesn't feel like it. There are completely different huts there. They won't see me again

Perfect location a few steps from the mountain station with a beautiful view of the mountain panorama. Unfortunately there was only coffee, no cappuccino or anything like that. I didn't eat anything because the prices were totally exorbitant. You can already see this on a board at the entrance. Menu via QR code, which didn't work for me despite being connected to WiFi. The service was friendly, but I had to wait a long time before I could pay. Conclusion: Enjoy the view on the bench in front of it and hike for 15 minutes to the next hut.

The service in the Sonnenalm is a disaster! We waited 40 minutes for a piece of cherry pie to be brought to us. When some guests had legitimate complaints, they were addressed by the waiter. You should be calm and not be annoying. But the main thing is that everything is very stylish.

You can only pay by card. OK for me, maybe not for others. A bit inflexible with food. The prices are high, perhaps a little too high for what is on offer. A (!) Viennese with roll was 6.90. Check out the prices beforehand.

Too expensive with very unfriendly service. When you arrive in hiking clothes and a backpack, you get strange looks. Apparently the only way to get here is to get dressed up and get off the gondola directly from Munich...

The view was perfect and the staff was friendly and quick. Nevertheless, after five hours of hiking, you couldn't get any food there without being announced, which disappointed me. The beer glass was also only half full.

The SonnenAlm on the Kampenwand is a beautiful and modern restaurant with a beautiful view. However, not everything that glitters is gold: - Menu only available digitally (QR code) - no attention from the service staff, we showed our gratitude several times, but to no avail - Drink order was only taken after about 25 minutes - Food came after 20 minutes and after 45 minutes - We were denied another drink order - Even for the bill we waited more than 20 minutes In summary: great on the outside, poor on the inside - then it's better to continue hiking for 10 minutes to the next alpine pasture

I've been there a few times, unfortunately always waiting forever. Prices are also overpriced. Completely understaffed and disorganized on a sunny Sunday at lunchtime. All food was out at 1:30 p.m., drinks took more than 30 minutes. Will be avoided in the future - you just have to be annoyed. Addendum on 10/26/24: Been there again for years because the hungry son insisted on immediate Kaiserschmarrn. 😂 Conclusion: 17.90 euros for biscuit dough from the tray. At least it tasted exactly like that. When asked, it was said that it “was always sizzled out fresh in the pan”. (I'm just wondering how the chef gets the nice square pieces). Either way: not a hit in terms of taste. Most of the staff still have a bad attitude and zero happiness on their faces. Maybe it's the lack of salary or the tips because only card payment. It is and remains an overpriced tourist hut that is best avoided.

Nice mountain inn with friendly staff, good menu and great views

We booked a mountain brunch. 69€ is a proud sum, which unfortunately the food didn't do justice to. The view is fantastic and the service is ok. Unfortunately it wasn't worth €69 in my opinion, as even the ups and downs are still on top. Expensive fun for a “time out”.

We were there to eat, the Kaiserschmarren is highly recommended, combined with the view it was worth the trip. Thanks for the experience.

The view is of course beautiful and the service was good too. But it wasn't extremely busy either. However, the prices are grossly overpriced! I didn't eat anything because I don't understand paying €19 for a sausage salad.

Food like it comes from a gas station at completely absurd prices. Schnitzel TK for 25€. Again...

We stopped there after hiking. We drank coffee and ate cake. The cheesecake is highly recommended! We found the Sonnen Alm very cozy, wonderfully bright and very comfortably furnished. The waitress was also very nice. We can't rate the rooms/hotel because we didn't stay there overnight. I would always go up there just to have a coffee, it's definitely a great view. We had fog that day. All in all, you have to experience it!

Apart from the location there is nothing good to say about the restaurant. Not suitable with children, there is a children's meal, fish fingers with chips. The service staff are so inflexible that you can't even cancel the fish fingers. We ordered 3 dishes and they came 15 minutes apart. Which restaurant please doesn't bring the order to the tables in a bunch. If you don't like Adelle, you can look forward to constant sound from the artist. I've only ever seen waitresses in sweatpants here. We won't see this restaurant twice.

We ate there today after a cable car ride. The restaurant thrives on its monopoly and its location in exactly this spot. The view is fantastic and everything is modern, unfortunately with a few catches and negative experiences that we had. It's nice if you make the map available purely digitally, but if your home's WiFi is extremely slow and cell phone reception is close to zero, that's of little use. The reference to a hand-written sign on which the menu could be read doesn't help much; after all, you don't want to have to walk across the restaurant several times to order if in doubt. The food itself was poor in selection, extremely steep in price and average to poor in taste. The sausage salad was swimming in vinegar, the fries had never touched any salt, the yeast dumpling was off the shelf. With prices of over ten euros for one of the two children's meals and upwards of 16 euros for the main meals (not really much choice), that's less than not enough. The staff can't score either. We never experienced any friendliness; the waiters didn't smile much, seemed rushed and didn't seem like they enjoyed working there. Nor were they all sufficiently proficient in the German language. The fact that in the end there was only card payment as an option is almost the least of the problems, but also a factor. At least we weren't asked to give tips - the restaurant didn't deserve any. Actually a star. The second was only for the view, the modern furnishings and the cold drinks.

The Alm is in a beautiful place, but in my opinion it is completely overpriced for what you get. Card payment only and no paper menus available. The menu has to be accessed with your cell phone using a QR code, but logically there is no network up there... so you have to log in to the alm's WiFi. But it's so lame that it feels like it takes forever for the map to appear. I just wanted a portion of fries for my daughter, but this wasn't possible, so I had to take the children's dish (only one on the menu). This dish consists of fish fingers with fries…. There is no vegetarian alternative and I can't order fries individually either. If I want fries, do I have to take fish fingers with fries?! We won't come back again, more of a flop after a long hike...

Unfortunately, my first visit will also be my last. I have to say: "unfortunately there is no self-service!" We first sat down in an area that was subsequently closed off, "No service is served here!" We then sat at a table with nice people and sat there for about half an hour until the waiter came to the table for the first time. At the table, a single lady should have paid for two Kaiserschmarrn. The predecessors at the table had ordered the second one, but never received it and left. Since we were just thirsty, we just wanted to order drinks. The waiter refused to take the order, saying he had to “take care of guests” first. The others at the table paid for their food as soon as it was received. Only possible with card! The waiter wanted the tip in cash. Unfortunately there was not the slightest regret from the waiter, so perhaps one could be understanding. Of course we left, as did two other empty tables at the same time, and ended the day downstairs in the beautiful Café Pauli. Conclusion: completely overwhelmed, non-existent service and unfriendly at the same time, you don't need that. This would-be Alm has nothing in common with the numerous other rustic, family-friendly huts in our region.

Was disappointed with this location. First point, no printed menu. Not everyone walks around with a cell phone. Second point, no cash payment. ???? Third point, overpriced. Apple strudel €11.80, Kaiserschmarrn over €17. Too bad. During my holiday in South Tyrol I ate very good apple strudel and Kaiserschmarn at several huts and mountain pastures, but it was a third cheaper and there was more on the plate.

The service was very unfriendly. 3/4 of the dishes were not available. As an allergy sufferer it was not possible at all to adapt a meal. A request to simply get fries would be rejected. You have to take a whole menu. Although you can't eat half of it. The drinks size was a joke. A Sprite 0.2 was 3 euros

We stopped there after our hike. The service was very attentive. However, our meal took a while and we were forgotten. After a short inquiry, our food arrived quickly. My husband really enjoyed the tomato bread with fried egg. My Kaiserschmarrn was also very tasty. The only thing I was missing was the raisins and the bowl of plum compote contained one plum and a maximum of a tablespoon of compote, which I found to be too little for the price.

Simply horrible for a facility in such a wonderful place! If all the employees are like the two who "served" us, nothing surprises me anymore, not even the reviews so far! Unfriendly, arrogant and contempt for customers are not exaggerations! And at the end, put a board down to remember to tip! It's cheeky to "demand" a tip after such service! "Most of the guests are not regular customers and only come once anyway, so the friendly service up there doesn't have to be so necessary" is roughly what an employee of the Kampenwand Bahn said! We certainly wouldn't go there again if we visited this great area again!

4 people on Wednesday, October 9th, 2024. 3/4th occupancy when we left. 1/4th when we came. The service is OK. The prices are high. The Kaiser Schmarrn was edible, but not that sparkling. It had a more cake-like taste. I know it differently, but I don't know what was missing. 17€ for it: 😳 Card payment only. no problem. Toilets are clean. View is 👍. Cappuccino is okay. Beer too.

A wonderful place!! However, the fact that you can only pay by card in this beautiful location is an outrage!! It's a shame, they won't see us there again!!

Unfortunately my visit to this restaurant was a huge disappointment. The service was virtually non-existent and the staff was extremely rude. What was particularly unpleasant was that the waiter insisted on a tip even though I could only pay by card. My suggestion to charge the tip to the card was rejected. The quality of the food was also disappointing. The cocoa tasted watery, the apple strudel was cold even though I specifically ordered it warm, and the Kaiserschmarren was extremely dry. Although the view is nice, I absolutely cannot recommend this restaurant. The prices bear no relation to the service offered - simply an outrage. Also proof that I was there too (see pictures)

We sat down for a cookie and coffee. First I wanted Orangeschorle, but it wasn't so I asked for coffee. I wanted a cookie, which is why the waiter came back to tell us that unfortunately it was sold out, so we ordered Kaiserschmaren, but the waiter came out again to say that we had Apfelstrudel, which was very delicious. Because of this, the service was a disappointment, but the view and the cookies made up for it. I would have been happy if the menu was not only available online, because we didn't have enough space.

Shortage of staff and therefore large parts of the outdoor area closed. In order to get a seat you had to stand in a queue and wait for a very long time. The food and service are not evaluated here.

I would like to describe my very ambivalent stay (with an overnight stay) at the Sonnenalm on the Kampenwand, which unfortunately coincides with what others left as an impression and which I find very sad. If you arrive when the weather is good and the sun is setting, the dining area is really impressive and very high quality and Tamara was a wonderful hostess/waitress who had time for us due to the few guests, even though there was still a lot of preparation to be done and she was alone! This is important to me to say! Now comes the big “but”: I paid over €250 for a small double room (WITHOUT my own toilet!) for single occupancy, which is quite a sum. So I also expected what I saw downstairs in the room upstairs in the guest rooms in some form. What really impressed me below simply disappointed me above. The rooms are okay, but nothing more. There are two shower foams in the hallway, each with two showers and two toilets, one for men and one for women. To make my point very clear: One night before I was able to book a simple but very comfortable and beautiful four-bed room in the Hochrieshütte for single use for around €60.00 WITH its own toilet/washroom and everything was new! I thought the idea of ​​the Sonnenalm with the double rooms under the roof with a view of the stars (as advertised) was very nice, but it wasn't more than an idea. The small roof window directly above one half of the bed (so no looking at the sky together!) showed obvious water damage and was not clean, the “chamber” (double room) was rather carelessly designed and was really extremely narrow (no space for anything ) and there wasn't even a night lamp by the bed. Total contrast to the equipment below! You can't spend more than €250 a night for something like that (despite half board). But the price is set by the owners, okay. Seems to be working. My clear recommendation would be something else: take a hike on the Kampenwand, stop at one of the other alpine pastures along the way or a little further up and then back down into the valley. Overnight guests and hikers just don't seem to be the focus of this cabin. Maybe just leave it alone and focus on optimizing the catering industry.

Bad service, unfriendly, food miserable and expensive.

Since 2003 we have been traveling to the Kampenwand and thus up to the Sonnenalm once a year. It has been modernized again and again over the years and has constantly improved. The prices for food and drinks have not increased exorbitantly either. A visit is always worth it. We like being here. We traveled here again in 2024, but this time we were disappointed. Although a lot has been done and improved in the outdoor area, the service has declined significantly. Many older people missed the printed menu. The waitress didn't give the impression that she enjoyed working here. Only a nice young woman who served us gave the Alm some of the sunshine. The food, on the other hand, was subpar, the schnitzel was fried to death and had no taste at all, the fried meat turned out to be fried chicken nuggets. In addition, the iced tea and duck brawn that were offered were not available at all. Last but not least, you have to say that the prices for such terrible food are not justified.

Went to the Sonnenalm today...The salad with the baked mushrooms...well: you could have stuck a wooden handle in and hammered nails into a wall. Totally hard. And the Kaiserschnarrn didn't knock me off my feet either. Waiting time 40 minutes. And then there was something that was very “brown” and tasteless on both sides. Normally the egg whites are separated and folded in. Then it becomes fluffy. It was definitely out of the bag...

The restaurant can be reached either by cable car or on foot. Overnight stays are also possible. The name actually says it all. Large umbrellas provide some shade on the terrace. In winter you are happy about it. Once you get to the top, the mood is unfortunately dampened by high prices, card payment only, little/slow service, long waiting times for food and drinks and a limited selection of food. The menu can only be opened via a QR code. Unfortunately it is no longer what it once was. Unfortunately, it's no consolation that everything has to be transported up the mountain first and neither is the view.

Right off the bat: To just drink a beer - okay, nothing more! Were there today for lunch with 3 people... -not much going on -long waiting time -Everyone got their food one after the other, so everyone had to eat for themselves -The waiters wait at the counter for the bartender or kitchen to complete their orders, while other guests are allowed to continue waiting -The food is way too expensive for the quality and quantity -Two waitresses were asked about the bad timing of the meal: The first simply walked away during the conversation, the second waitress was sorry but she couldn't help it... Later, a third waitress (or boss?) actually came and politely apologized for an error in the system and took a beer off the bill. There were also three schnapps on the house, although I was assured that the schnapps only had a few revolutions, given that I still had to drive. But they couldn't tell me how much % because the schnapps comes from a great private distillery... If you read the other Google reviews, my experience seems to be more commonplace and good experiences are really the exception. That's why I don't put much stock in apologizing. For me this is a pure tourist rip-off, as it is located right next to the lift and is the first alpine pasture to be seen. Like probably 90% of the other guests, we will never go back here! In short, to put it literally: Hui on the outside, ugh on the inside!

Great view, but unfortunately we didn't stay long enough to be served. Everything outside was full so we had to sit inside. Unfortunately, the focus was completely on the people outside and we were apparently "overlooked". You can only view the menu via QR code, which doesn't work very well with poor internet on the mountain. We then left without having accomplished anything and returned to the hut a little further down the path. 🤷🏼‍♀️

It doesn't work at all. 60% of the visitors to the restaurant are older people who may not be able to scan a QR code for the “menu”. Then only pay by card. Are you crazy? When I wanted to pay, the friendly service lady said: “You have to come to the restaurant”. I stayed seated until a young man came with the card payment device. The prices are at the upper limit, but you should accept that given the top location. The gondola costs €30 there and back. We are true that as Upper Bavaria we have never been at the top, but it is enough now. This restaurant didn't give us the finishing touch to a beautiful day.

I think it's a shame that it's not possible to make a large portion of fries for one child. There always has to be schnitzel or something similar. Who came up with that? I don't think he has any children. I also think it is discriminatory if the menu can only be read as a QR code. Older people often do not have a cell phone or debit card. This needs to be changed!!! I think the view and the atmosphere are beautiful. Our staff was friendly and quick. It would be nice if the points mentioned above would change.

Brunch is not recommended! We were pressed arm to arm with strangers at a table that was too small. The food is cold and unfortunately doesn't taste good. The service is impossible and reluctant to fulfill customer requests. Unfortunately a very disappointing experience. 0 stars.

Unfortunately service was absolutely bad!! First they wanted me to put my baby away in the stroller because it was "getting in the way!!" - pushed all the way to the edge! Menu is only available online. Although feasible for young people, we had older people at the table who would have been very lost without us! Payment is only possible by card. We had a voucher that would have easily covered our consumption! After repeated references, it was still only billed by card!! So the voucher was taken into hand but billed for cash!! Location is just awesome! We were lucky that the cloud cover only reached the tree line and we had great weather from above! Love the pictures! Service, well, you have to read the card using the QR code and you can only pay with a card... Well, I don't think it's that great, even if it sounds old-fashioned. You could know in advance... this is pure tourist fun because of its easy accessibility. Very clear menu and almost half of it couldn't be ordered. I would be able to cook and prepare what was delivered better with my two left hands. Prices are of course in the upper segment given the location, it is also on the mountain and it may be good for flip-flopping tourists. They don't get anything else from the mountain. I will no longer visit this location. It's probably 5 minutes further on the Möslarn Alm. It deserves a try.

Waren zu viert zum Mittagessen dort (werktags). Zwei Dinge haben den guten Eindruck versaut: Im Herren-WC hat jemand neben die Schüssel gesch... Es stank fürchterlich und die Zelle war nicht mehr nutzbar. Wir haben die Mitarbeiter informiert mit der Antwort 'wir schauen gleich nach' => nach einer Stunde war der Zustand unverändert.... Zweites Ärgernis: es wurden 4 Mahlzeiten bestellt, 3 kamen relativ zeitnah. Die vierte Mahlzeit kam erst sehr spät nachdem wir den Keller erinnert haben - Drei waren mit dem Essen fertig bevor der vierte überhaupt beginnen konnte. Wie kann das passieren - das Personal nutzt modernste Technik => nimmt Bestellungen digital auf!???

Today we went to the hut to have lunch after a gondola ride. Afterwards we wanted to walk back down. Besides the view, which is worth the first star for me, the food was really good. The Kaiserschmarrn was fresh, the ice cream was (probably) homemade, the fish fingers were homemade and the iced tea was really chilled tea and not some sweet pastry. Therefore - star 2 is really deserved. Star 3 - Service Shortly before 12:00 p.m. we ordered 2 Kaiserschmarrn, 1x nuggets with fries and 1x fish fingers with fries. The feedback came in good time that the nuggets were out - that can happen. I couldn't understand why we couldn't order fries individually (except because they aren't on the menu, although there are only two children's meals on it). But well, our little child was persuaded to have an ice cream (2 scoops with Smarties). At around 12:10 the fish fingers arrived... at around 12:18 2 ice cream sundaes with a scoop of ice cream and Smarties arrived (they were exchanged without any problem) and around 12:25 my wife's Kaiserschmarrn arrived... mine didn't come... When we had finished eating, I asked for the bill and the waiter noticed that a main course was still missing. He was visibly embarrassed by that, so he invited us over for a round of drinks (although it wasn't possible to do anything more than iced tea, since we were there with two small children and wanted to go - they were actually really pretty, unlike the first two decorated…). However, he should order the Kaiserschmarrn (mine) in the kitchen, we want to go... and I honestly didn't want to pay for it anymore because I was already a little tired. He arrived 2 minutes later... and still had to be paid... In my opinion there was enough service staff today and the house wasn't full - the fact that 4 dishes came spread out over 30 minutes shouldn't have happened! —> no star for the service Star 4 - price… I paid almost €17 for the Kaiserschmarrn, almost €7 for 2 scoops of ice cream and almost €10 for 3 fish fingers with fries. There are also 2 iced teas for just under €6 each... (I'll post pictures later) I think the dishes don't do justice to the prices. Even if supplying a restaurant on a mountain is more difficult (apart from the fact that the cable car that supplies it is 50m away and access by truck is also possible), the prices are overpriced. Star 5 - would I come back? No, the service was too impressive for that. Especially in the area where they couldn't make a plate of fries because they weren't on the menu... at that moment I was really stunned for a moment and afterwards I'm annoyed that I didn't get up and leave.

I haven't experienced anything so boring and without mastering the technology in a long time! Return to the rotating cash register or ball cash register. That would be ideal for you. And then maybe you'll become friendly again!

Unfortunately not good food. In my two years in Bavaria, it was the worst food offered to me. That's a real shame, because the Sonnen-Alm is attractively decorated, clean, and friendly staff. But if the magnificent view is supposed to justify cheap frozen meat dishes, no thanks! Every down-to-earth, simple alpine farm and its cuisine that I have been able to visit so far deserves the Bergsternchen more than the Sonnen-Alm currently does. But perhaps most people have lost their sense of taste in recent years...

The service was generally friendly, the food was good, but: on the menu there were fries with schnitzel and fries with fish fingers - but it wasn't possible to just get fries without everything. Our suggestion to simply leave out the fish fingers because no one wanted to eat them couldn't be implemented either. In order to get fries, we had to order fries with fish fingers and got both. Additionally, the main course menu said “fried egg, tomato bread,” which we couldn’t order because it was after 11:30 a.m. However, the dish was served at another table much later when we left. Nothing dramatic at all, but still a bit immobile and strange... The view makes up for the question marks in your head ;-)

Unfortunately you can't give zero stars... Paid 140€ for 2 people... for the fact that we were pressed into a table with 4 other STRANGERS (even though no other table was already occupied, let alone reserved), had to share a small (!!!) breakfast platter with people we didn't know and that Buffet was ice cold... In addition, the drinks were of course charged extra... For 3 normal drinks 18€… I wonder what the whole thing cost 140€+ drinks and the extra charged gondola ride (60€ for 2 people)?! The whole thing is, in my opinion, a very bad joke. The staff doesn't speak any German and had to use their hands and feet to point where the toilets were after repeated inquiries because the staff barely understood us and the other guests... unbelievable. NOT recommended at all…!!!!!!! 140€ for cold food in minimal quantities which has to be shared and extremely poor service...! Plus the extra charge for drinks... Even if these were included in the price... the whole thing in life is not worth 140€...!!!!

Good food, great view, highly recommended. Information that you can only pay with a card can already be found at the cable car valley station. I'm very surprised by the previous reviews.

We wanted a nice trip with a good breakfast. In the SonnenAlm our dream of a good breakfast was taken away! Unfortunately zero stars is not possible! Service: I'd rather not write anything so as not to offend you! Never!! SonneAlm again!! I'll pass it on to everyone! Too bad! Very sad!!

Brunch is not recommended, the service is very bad! The food was already cold when it was served. You are put together in a very small space. The food for us had the motto "France", the only French thing about it was the baguette and the croissant for breakfast (it wouldn't have been bad if other food had tasted good). Drinks are exorbitantly expensive, especially still water!

We stopped there for dinner after the hike. Very tasty food, friendly service and a great view.

So, we were in very good hands and were very well looked after.

Didn't have a room, just stopped in after a hike to the Kampenwand. Food relatively expensive, but good. Schnitzel, Kaiserschmarrn and salad are recommended.
