Our concern: Planning and booking our wedding reception. We were absolutely thrilled with the SonnenAlm. After hiking there, we've been there several times. The view is stunning and the location is super modern. We used the online configurator to plan our wedding. It worked perfectly. Our budget was about the price of a small car. The problems began immediately with communication: After entering all the information in the configurator, I didn't receive any automatic or personal confirmation. After a few days of waiting, I finally followed up by email. They offered me a date, and I asked if we could have it in two weeks, as I was on vacation in the area at the time anyway. This was confirmed. We arrived on time for the agreed date and invested just under €62 in cable car tickets for me and my family. Once we got there, we learned that the manager was running late because she had to take her daughter to the Tiersee Triathlon. For a binding business appointment, for which customers travel specifically and pay an entrance fee, this is absolutely unacceptable and disrespectful. On a positive note, the very competent and friendly team leader who represented them deserves special mention. She showed us everything and painstakingly handwritten all the data I had already entered into the configurator weeks before. When the manager finally arrived, the first thing she told me was that our desired date had been booked in the meantime. The disappointment was indescribable. Despite this outrageous treatment, I agreed to postpone the appointment by a week and request a quote. This quote corresponded to our discussion. However, I was missing the house rules and general terms and conditions to make a final decision. When I specifically asked, I received the unbelievable answer that there were no written house rules and that the general terms and conditions would have to be "searched for first." This statement was the final proof of the lack of professionalism. A look at the existing reviews confirmed my suspicions: There was a clear pattern of unreliability and poor organization. We immediately looked for a new location. Conclusion: Pretty from the outside, a chaotic operation from the inside. Initial communication falls flat, agreed appointments are not taken seriously, and essential contractual terms are not available in any tangible form. Unfortunately, the friendly team leader cannot disguise the failure of management. For such an important and costly event as a wedding, this is the worst possible basis. We found our dream location elsewhere and advise everyone to do the same.

There were 6 waiters on site, but the service was lacking. We had to wait 15 minutes until a member of staff was available, who told us we had to speak to the staff member in charge of our table. Another 10 minutes later, someone finally arrived in our area and took our order. The ice cream we ordered was the first to arrive after a few minutes, another 5 minutes later the drinks arrived (a water, a coffee, and an iced tea, unfortunately the wrong one and the only one in stock that day), and the cake we ordered never arrived at all. We noticed in passing that many orders were incorrect because they were sent back to the kitchen. If the Alm had been overcrowded, we would have understood, but it was only maybe half full. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment for us, and we won't be going there again.

The location and the view are truly fantastic, and the same goes for the decor. The restroom capacity doesn't quite match the restaurant's capacity (too little). This is especially true on a day when a mountain brunch is taking place. The quality of the food doesn't match the price. The quality and taste of the food are reminiscent of a large cafeteria or hospital. However, the prices are on par with an upscale restaurant. Even considering the location and logistics, the prices aren't justified in terms of quality. The service lacks structure. For example, we had to reorder an order four times before the order finally arrived after 45 minutes, and that was for drinks.

Beautiful surrounding and spectacular views. Unfortunately ridiculous price/value. 260€ for a double room with minimal space. Ceiling is 1.9m at the entrance for 20cm and then slopes down. Shared bathrooms only. AND NO DRINKING WATER! Be prepared to pay 7€ for a Liter of drinking water. Dinner and breakfast are included. Both were OK but very simple. A few veggies with rice and the soup from the starter poured over it for vegetarian option. And only bread roles cheese and ham and boiled eggs for breakfast. No cereals, fruit or anything else. Every cheap mountain hut serves better food. Nothing to justify the price.

Extremely overpriced restaurant/hotel, that makes you feel like you‘re paying off their debt for fancy furniture and terrace, that they should have invested in their actual services. We paid €260 for a double room, including dinner and breakfast. Our bedroom was clean, but very small, with a very low ceiling (husband could not stand up straight) and poorly aired. The showers and toilets were shared. Dinner was ok, but vegetarian option was a sad afterthought, half a courgette in tomato „sauce“ (really the soup we just had as a starter) and bland boiled bulgur that we were told was rice. Breakfast was ok, but options were limited. Only white bread rolls and no cereals. The worst thing was that the water from the taps is not drinkeable and that they shamelessly charge you €7 for a liter of water. Not only is this a disgrace for a place that claims to be catering to hikers, but it is against EU regulations too. If you‘re too cheap to install a filter, at least serve drinking water for free or at a service fee. All in all, we will never go again. Views are fantastic, but can also be admired standing next to the terrace. Don’t spend your money here, but learn from our mistake and book your accomodation in this area in advance so you can avoid this place that looks fancy but fails to deliver in every relevant aspect.

We took the little cable car up since it was already mid-afternoon. When we arrived, the crowds were manageable. After our tour, we felt like having a coffee, but we couldn't get one. After sitting and waiting for 30 minutes to be served, and being assured that someone would come, we left. The place was moderately busy, the waitresses were hopelessly overwhelmed, and drinks and food were constantly being returned. We decided to leave, which was a shame. We didn't have a room! On the other hand, the gondola staff were very friendly and accommodating, with a smile on their faces.

Unfortunately, I don't recommend it. We were booked for lunch with a group of about 50 people. The food arrived 45 minutes late. The portions were rather small, average in taste, and expensive. The service staff were clearly overwhelmed. A meeting was planned afterward, but the room wasn't really prepared because the previous guest's dishes were still lying around. Due to the delay in the meal, we couldn't use it to its full potential as planned. My objective feedback was met with a disappointing response in which the responsibility for the problems was shifted entirely onto our group. There was no concession, such as a waiver of the room rental fee. Very disappointing, and in our opinion, not a professional way of dealing with guests.

The "Alm" has nothing in common with an alpine pasture in terms of character. It's more like a restaurant. Menus are only available via QR code on mobile phones, and card payments are accepted only. The decor is modern. Dogs are not allowed inside. Upon request, we were allowed to sit with our small dog in a corner by the entrance. Those who didn't ask could also enter with a large dog. The food was good, but neither the staff nor the kitchen knew what was in the dish. The cheese breakfast was served without bread and eggs, and the roll and pretzel were extra. Bread was unavailable at 11:30 a.m. The staff were friendly and tried to arrange everything to our satisfaction. A rustic alpine pasture, the "Steinlingalm," is just around the corner.

The view is magnificent and the food delicious. The drinks leave nothing to be desired. The prices are quite high, but understandable considering how everything has to get there. So sometimes something might go out, which I think is absolutely fine. But... There are only online menus, and while you theoretically have the option to reject cookies, the button doesn't work. This means that the menu is only available online, and without cookie acceptance and a smartphone, you have no chance. The service staff... left me absolutely speechless. It was very busy and you were stressed, which wasn't a problem at first. But even when there was some breathing space, you were met with disrespect. Whether you were standing or sitting, you didn't get served for a long time. All the tables were still full of people who had come before you, even though half of them were no longer occupied. No wonder the two waiters have no idea who is new and who isn't. The man at the bar and the woman who served there were friendly enough, but apparently they weren't allowed to do much inside. The colleague in charge, who was only allowed to take the cash, or so we were told, oh man. He's constantly talking to the guests about other guests. A complete no-go! I think next time I'll eat at one of the other three mountain huts right next door. They also have a nice view and perhaps better staff.

So, that had nothing to do with Italian food. The main course of risotto and fish, spinach and cheese gnocchi, a thin, dry shred of beef with a strip of bacon on every fifth slice, was not to my liking. The desserts were also only a visual highlight, but the taste left a lot to be desired. The homemade lemonade tasted like water. Mother's Day with a Difference – or: How to Successfully Scare Off Locals We had reserved a table online – or so we thought. When we politely inquired at the entrance, we received the charming reply: "Just sit somewhere where no one is sitting." – Wow. No "Hello," no "Grüß Gott," no trace of hospitality. Maybe we'd simply forgotten to take off our invisible cloaks. The waiter who took our order was a real experience. His mood probably wouldn't have been right at home even in a disused mine in Timbuktu (no offense – but anyone who enjoys their job so little should perhaps seriously consider changing careers). One of my absolute highlights was the notice at the next table: For an empty plate – yes, really empty! – there's a 1 euro surcharge. For what exactly? For air consumption? The children's menu listed three dishes – an ambitious number, considering that two of them were already gone before we could even order. Perhaps the dishes were merely symbolic, like the service. Speaking of prices: The menu – neither a culinary highlight nor imaginative – is obviously only priced for tourists. 27.40 euros for a modest portion of schnitzel... We're locals and wanted to spend a nice Mother's Day – instead, we got a concentrated dose of unfriendliness, unprofessionalism, and rip-off at its finest. The drinks, by the way, came... eventually. You shouldn't be thirsty then either – it could be dangerous. And then the crowning glory: The waiter pointedly stopped while I paid by card, visibly waiting for me to offer him a tip. I took this moment to politely but firmly decline – you don't want to set the wrong incentive. Conclusion: If you're looking for genuine service, friendliness, and a pleasant dining experience, you'd better move on. Maybe you'll find a restaurant somewhere that still understands the concept of hospitality. This one is definitely not one of them.

We went there for dinner on Saturday at 6 p.m. We sat inside and were almost alone. Unfortunately, we weren't so lucky with the waitress. When we arrived, it took a while for her to even come over to us. Then she asked if we had enough time and took our order. After 45 minutes, she still hadn't returned, even though she checked several times. And everyone else who came after us had already finished eating. We then asked a colleague. Unfortunately, he barely understood us and didn't answer her or come back to us himself. After another 15 minutes, we finally got her to our table, and she asked if we hadn't eaten yet? And why we hadn't said anything. We should have said something much sooner. Then she said she forgot to give the order to the kitchen. We then got lukewarm Kaspatzen (cheesecakes), and when we asked for a drink because we'd had to wait forever and our drinks were now empty, she consulted the bar twice and first offered us a shot?! And then said she didn't want to pay €10 for it herself. And then she got even louder and said, annoyed, that she'd already said it was her mistake. Wow. We then got one apple spritzer divided between two glasses. And when we were finally able to eat, she came and wanted to take the money so she wouldn't forget it later. Incredible!!! Never again.. Oh yeah.. Of course, no one came back to ask if we liked it or if we needed anything else. The table wasn't cleared either.. Service was beyond awful!!! Almost nonexistent...

An outrage! Never again on the Kampenwand cable car for the solstice! We were at the solstice fire on the Kampenwand on June 21st – a truly wonderful experience that was completely ruined by the organizer's disastrous management. Before and after the event, the gondola ride was a complete disaster: 1.5 hours up, 3 hours waiting down, crowded against the barbed wire fence, with hundreds of other people, in the dark, with toddlers, children, elderly people, and pregnant women. The organization was simply nonexistent. We were left to our own devices – no clear information, no announcements, no coordination. The situation was dangerous at times, absolutely unacceptable, and, in our opinion, negligently poorly planned. One had the impression that the only goal was to sell as many tickets as possible – and after that, the guests were completely on their own. The fire in the valley was certainly larger and visible much further. Conclusion: If you want to save yourself and your family many hours of chaos and frustration, you should stay well away from this event.

We attended the solstice celebration at the Sonnenalm and on the Kampenwand. It could actually be a super event. However, the venue was completely overwhelmed by the influx of people. The waitress at the Sonnenalm, a young woman who served the hotel guests, did a great job serving the guests. She hauled and hauled drinks and food. All of this was done in a timely manner. Our waiter (we were just "regular guests") wasted time explaining how and in what order he would take orders. This resulted in one guest at our table actually receiving a wheat beer within four hours. After a corresponding wait for the order, the food came very quickly. There were no more drinks until the end of the event. This made sense, too, as the line in front of the women's restroom (four of them) had grown to about 50 people. The descent was also an adventure because everyone, who knows how many people, wanted to go down. With goodwill and patience, this event can be brought to an end. We don't need that anymore. We've been there twice now. The first and the last time.

If the beer tap only produces foam by 5 p.m. on what is probably the busiest day of the year (the solstice celebration), I, as the proprietor, would get a mobile beer tap from the basement or, in the worst case, organize one from the valley. Instead, the employees were forced to spend the entire evening pouring the tapped foam back and forth between mugs to produce "beer," which was shamelessly served to the guests at full price. Bottled beer would have been available at a stand outside with a gigantic wait, but that also ran out after a short time, leaving you with the choice between overpriced Spezi or stale beer from the foam machine. The rooms were also a disaster. Six beds crammed into a space comparable to a storage closet, where you could only stand upright directly in front of the door. There was exactly one restroom per gender for the entire floor in the hallway. With an estimated capacity of 44 people, that was almost criminally low. The breakfast was solid, but there was no water on the buffet. You could have purchased it for a mere €6.50. This place presents a sad combination of unprofessionalism and greed.

The surroundings are, of course, stunningly beautiful, and the idea is good on paper. But a solstice bonfire on the Kampenwand doesn't really make sense. At least not with the cable car. You either arrive many hours in advance and spend the afternoon on the mountain (which certainly has its advantages), or you wait an hour and a half for the ride up. Once you get to the top, the hut is completely overcrowded, and you wait an inordinately long time for drinks, food, and the toilet. There's really only enough space to find a spot near a fire and then stay there as long as possible. The average wait time in line for the gondola ride down to the valley is two to three hours, maybe even longer. Meanwhile, everyone else is trying to move closer and closer to the fire, fighting over each other for the best spots near the heat. No matter how you look at it, you basically spend your entire time on the mountain waiting in lines. So, in that sense, it might even be a German's wet dream 😂 But honestly, the whole thing only makes sense with the ascent and descent on foot, a picnic blanket, self-catering, and warm clothing. But I can have that somewhere else with fewer crowds. The fire isn't anything particularly special either. Sure, it's nice with the alphorn players, but it's really not worth the effort. Oh yeah, and then there's the €55 fine for parking on the grass verge because it's hopelessly overcrowded. It all just doesn't make sense, somehow.

05/22/25 We went to the Sonnen Alm yesterday for the solstice bonfire. Even on the way up with the Kampenwand cable car, we waited in line for an hour and a half, even though we had online tickets. Around 7:00 p.m., we finally arrived at the mountain pasture, and it was so crowded that we had to constantly push our way through the crowd. Far too many people for this mountain pasture. There were only four women's restrooms for the several thousand people. There was only one place to buy drinks outside the restaurant. That meant waiting in line for at least half an hour. The solstice bonfire was okay! Then around 9:45 p.m., we went back to the cable car, stood in a tight, crowded line, and finally reached the valley around 11:30 p.m. Conclusion: Far too many people allowed on the mountain pasture! Poor organization for drinks and food. Waiting over three hours to get to the mountain pasture and back was absurd. Once solstice fire on the Kampenwand and never again!

If wheelchairs could fit on the Kampenwandbahn cable car, even paraplegics could make it unaided to the alpine inn, located 1,500 meters above sea level. The climb from the mountain station to the very generously dimensioned terrace of the relatively new building is that easy. Here, you'll find comprehensively optimized, perfectly timed high-alpine romance à la 21st century. What's on offer at the tables is reminiscent of Back to the Future. On normal hikes, you'd make sure you quickly grab a few coins from the last ATM before the overpriced parking lot in the valley, but that's not the case at the Sonnenalm. Here, you connect to the Wi-Fi before starting the via ferrata. And not just because the Lidl Connect app is exhausted again, but to scan the menu with the QR code at the table. If you take a photo of this, you'll see that the mountain inn no longer accepts cash. Payment logic in Germany has been completely turned upside down, but apparently no problem for digital mountain enthusiasts. The only thing is that their bank cards no longer have to jam. Scrolling further down the menu reveals, in addition to breakfast and snacks, hearty inn classics, as well as cakes and ice cream for those with a sweet tooth among the mountain enthusiasts. All this is best washed down with a local Heller from Aschau or Bello Giovanni iced tea. For whatever reason, the currant soft drink is called Italian here. If you want to eat cheaper than at an alpine hut like this, you're better off bringing a Tupperware container that you haven't given back to your mom since 2008. What is surprising, then, are the white sausages at €11.50. Although they are smaller than elsewhere, they are served in four portions with a pretzel and sweet Händlmaier mustard. The spectacle of the year at this panoramic hut is the solstice celebration in June. The next day, the staff are still a bit tired, but they cover up their resentment from the previous day with a lighthearted joke.

We were at the summer solstice celebration at the mountain pasture yesterday and were able to get a seat inside (there were five of us). Although it was busy, most guests were outside at the food and drink stands. Since almost everyone preferred to sit outside in the nice weather, the stress "inside" was kept to a minimum. The waitress – presumably the landlady herself, judging by the name tag – was very unfriendly. She only took two drink orders at a time, insisted on immediate cash payment with the correct amount, and categorically refused to give change: "I need the correct amount, otherwise there won't be any drinks." When we briefly considered how to resolve this, we were impatiently pressured with the words: "Please be quicker, if it takes so long for everyone." When we suggested ordering food at the same time, she brusquely rejected the idea: "No food here today." She didn't even respond to our further inquiry, instead taking the two unpaid drinks back and simply leaving us standing there. Luckily, another waiter – "Willi" according to the name tag – took over for us. He was extremely friendly, attentive, and professional. He was able to exchange money and took our entire order, including the food, without any problems. Apparently, his real name was "Hamed" – if he was forced to work under a different name, that would be more than questionable. Conclusion: Words are lost on the "landlady" herself – it's shameful how she treats guests and staff (she even shouted at her staff in front of the guests!). This beautiful alpine hut definitely deserves different management and cannot be recommended.

We attended the solstice celebration at the Sonnenalm. Judging by the way the event went, you'd think this was the first time they'd organized something like this... The sausage stand forgot the adapter for the second grill, but it didn't matter because they ran out of sausages after two hours. (The event runs from 6 p.m. to midnight.) There were far too few/unexperienced waiters at the alm (they couldn't see the guests, carrying trays was difficult...); it took 45 minutes for anyone to come to the table. In that time, the table could have been staffed a second time, or at least the next round of drinks could have been sold (lost revenue?!). The food was very good, but the portions were small and expensive (two mini dumplings with mushrooms for €18.50). There were five dishes (schnitzel, dumplings, cheese spaetzle, and two other meat dishes to choose from). The crepe stand, the salmon grill (€16.50 for a mini portion of salmon with half a potato), and the drinks stand: the queues were completely chaotic. Everyone was asking each other who was in line for what, where, and everyone had to go to the same cash register first. The crepe line therefore had to make a detour, and those who wanted drinks had to leave. The girls did their best, but two crepe ovens were simply not enough. They waited in line for 1-1.5 hours, during which time it was sunset and the fire was lit (which burned down after 30 minutes). Each person could easily serve two ovens at once. And signs/barriers indicating where to line up for what would be helpful. Even a single drink dispenser/return counter would increase sales revenue.

The food is terrible. Many dishes on the menu are unavailable. The waiting times are exceptionally long. No cash payments accepted! The waiter spilled a wheat beer on our clothes without apologizing. Of course, we had to pay for the spilled beer. The reimbursement for the cleaning of our clothes is still pending. This was a unique visit to the Alm.

Great view, good food – but more toilet paper, please! The Sonnenalm really has a lot to offer: stunning views, delicious food, and a cozy atmosphere. But one thing simply has to be mentioned: The restrooms were completely out of paper during my visit – and this in a busy day-trip restaurant. Especially after a good meal, there shouldn't be any toilet paper left on the quiet side. A suggestion: Three rolls per stall would be a solid basic setup. Anyone who's ever found themselves with 50% phone battery and 0% toilet paper knows what I'm talking about. 😉 Still: I'll be back – but next time with extra paper in my bag.

The worst value for money I've ever experienced at a "mountain hut" (you shouldn't really call it that). Tomato bread with egg costs 19 euros – really cheeky. Please go to another mountain hut; we shouldn't support commercialism.

A cable car ride that's well worth it. A 15-minute ride up, with a stunning panoramic view. Once at the top, you'll be greeted by the jingling of cowbells. The hike to the summit cross is doable, but proper footwear is essential. If you're feeling a little peckish, stop in and enjoy a Kaiserschmarrn (sweet pancake) or apple strudel with vanilla sauce—only if you like sweets, of course. Those who prefer savory dishes can choose something delicious from the menu. The friendly staff will give you plenty of good advice. By the way, if you go up to the Kampenwand in brilliant sunshine—you've hit the jackpot!

It's a shame about the fantastic view from the alpine terrace. The pseudo-Bavarian modern style has nothing to do with a cozy mountain hut atmosphere. The terrace is very nice, but unfortunately, the staff is very inattentive. Menus are only available via QR code, and payment is only possible by card. This doesn't go down well with older guests. And the prices are completely overpriced by Chiemgau standards compared to other mountain huts. After waiting, we left and went to the cozy alpine hut located a little lower down.

The prices are terrible. It's understandable that you have to pay more on the mountain. But almost €25.00 for a snack plate is outrageous. Two slices of salami, one slice of ham and some cheese. One slice of bread and one pretzel. If you want an extra slice you have to pay extra, of course. It has to get more expensive every year even though the quality hasn't improved. It's absolutely outrageous. But the tourists pay for everything. I don't. The wheat beer, at almost €6, is also extortionate. Think about why most people only eat cake and only have one drink. If the prices were better people would definitely consume more. Luckily the service was really friendly and understood us.

Pleasant café – ideal for cakes, less so for hot meals. The daily special (risotto, €15.20) was a bit bland, and the portion was rather small. The bread basket was dry. At least. The cheesecake was excellent and lovingly presented. The staff was polite, but seemed stressed and not entirely cohesive. The interior is stylish, with plenty of light – good for a coffee break. Rather disappointing for a hearty lunch. No Wi-Fi. Complete. Total bill: €58 for two daily specials, two cakes, and two sodas
