Hofbauernalm in Aschau i.Chiemgau

The hike to the Hofbauernalm was capped off by a delicious snack at the alpine pasture. The homemade cheese was particularly delicious. I'll definitely be back :)

Anyone who gets lost while visiting the Kampenwand and hikes over hill and dale for 45 minutes from the mountain station will not only be able to enjoy the flora and fauna of the Bavarian Alps and see an alpine pasture ruin, but will also find the (New) Hofbauernalm at the end of this moderately strenuous hike. This mountain hut is truly an alpine pasture and not an oversized luxury restaurant at 2,000 meters above sea level. Therefore, the mountain hut's priority is not the well-being of hikers with latent wanderlust, but rather that of the cloven-hoofed animals in the stable and the smaller species around the alpine pasture. Fanny the cow, for example, looks out from the mooing garage, and the billy goats Ignaz and Kasper stand behind the Maiensäss next to several raw chicken nuggets. Once the livestock, through which you also have to weave your way to reach the alpine pasture, has been taken care of, it's the turn of the human guests. Here, slowing down in its purest form takes priority. This rustic, or "griabige" (traditional mountain hut), as they say in Bavarian, stands out for its simplicity. On the sun terrace, with just two tables, you can enjoy the wonderful view of Bavaria and neighboring Austria. Flötzinger beer and other non-alcoholic beverages are also available. The menu on the blackboard hanging on the wall features small snacks and refreshments typical of this type of alpine hut, some of which are even produced on site depending on the season. Those who wander here want and get a back-to-the-roots experience and are more of a Bear Grylls type of hiker.

The alpine pasture is beautifully situated, everything is very well maintained, the cheese is handmade, and the milk comes from the cows that graze here. For those who only gave this place two stars: This is an alpine farm, not an inn. The dairymaid is primarily responsible for the livestock, including ensuring that the animals, mostly young ones, are not harmed on the extensive alpine pasture grounds. Secondly, she is responsible for processing the freshly milked milk. Anyone who talks to the dairymaid will quickly learn that it is hard physical work, with working days lasting up to 16 hours, 24/7. I greatly admire this, and I can understand very well that sometimes it's simply not possible to keep all the drinks chilled during a huge rush, not to mention that an alpine pasture like this doesn't have 300-liter refrigerators. So it would be great if those who aren't into country life would do some research first before they start throwing around bad reviews.

The 2025 Hofbauernalm season has begun. I was there yesterday, and the alpine pasture is open again and ready for summer. The dairymaid is so friendly with delicious snack platters, the view is sensational, and it's simply a highlight in the Bavarian Alps. 🤩 Perfect for lingering and enjoying 🥳☀️

Fantastic location and friendly Oimerer residents! Unfortunately, the restaurant isn't very attractive due to the catering restrictions (no hot soups, no glasses for drinks, and for years there haven't been enough parasols for the benches in front of the alpine pasture). The excuse of "typical alpine hospitality" is completely unknown in Austria/Tyrol. They take pride in providing guests with service and are interested in satisfied customers.

Google's opening hours are incorrect. I went hiking today because of the opening hours, like everyone else, and found myself in front of closed doors. Opening hours should already be maintained by the owner.

Nice little alpine pasture with very reasonable prices. Selection small but nice. Had the mixed bread, which was excellently prepared. Always worth a visit and is conveniently located on the way to the Kampenwand or Sonnwendwand

A really rustic alpine pasture, we walked from the Kampenwandbahn to the alpine pasture. Unfortunately everything was full and we sat behind the hut with the cows, but we still got a beer, the owners are flexible and friendly. It's definitely worth going there 👍

Nice alpine pasture, I was there by bike. The last 200 meters in altitude were difficult but it was worth it. Great views of the surrounding mountains.

Einfach nur schön da! Kleine gemütliche Alm mit wunderbarer Lage! Leckeres Käsebrot mit Liebe angerichtet! Der Weg von der Kampenwandbahn ist nicht so weit, aber doch etwas anspruchsvoll!

Der Welt und ihrem Trubel für einen Moment entfliehen. Tolle Bewirtung, leckere Brote.

Schönes Ausflugsziel im Chiemgau, ab vom Schuss, tolle Aussicht, sehr nette Leute.

Zugegebenermaßen bin ich hier noch nie eingekehrt, wofür aber die Alm nix kann 😉 Wer aber Die Zeit findet, für den lässt es hier sicher gut aushalten, z.b auf dem Rückweg von der Sonnwendwand.

Nette Bewirtung fernab des üblichen Touristentrubels. Es wurde sogar ein traditionelles Fitnessprogranm in vorm von Holzaufsetzen angeboten.

Unfreundlich, nicht jedem wird die gesamte Getränkeauswahl angeboten, und gekühlt sind die Getränke dann noch lange nicht.

One one starts posting, it won’t be a hidden gem anymore. Nevertheless, take the walk, enjoy the 2h hike away from all those going to Kampenwand taking the cabin. Small little Alm serving a few very tasteful things mostly produced by themselves. Wonderful place to enjoy the mountains and rest.

After a nice walk from the mountain station, we stopped here for a beer. Can recommend a dolls beer after a nice walk :)
