Shikara in Hamburg

We were once again at Shikara, Bahrenfeld with our family. It’s our favourite restaurant in Hamburg. The food and service are excellent. All the staff are so friendly and efficient. Very good value for money. Sue

Tucked a tiny corner pretty close to the S-Bahn Ottensen, this restaurant has the best to offer in terms of price and quality of indian food. I find the flavors are excellently done and Mr. Manilal and team are doing an excellent job of making this long standing place a permanent part of the Indian food scene in Hamburg. Highest recommendations !

A wonderful place with great hosts and excellent service. The Palak Paneer is particularly recommended. The absolute highlight is the wonderful garden / summer holidays / terrace, which is wonderfully cozy and quiet in a backyard. Another real insider tip.

One of the best Indian food you can find in Altona. The head chef Romi Ji is a master cook. Ask for Panner Makhni. It is to die for.

An enchanting evening: the food was fabulous, pure soul food, the drinks were excellent, the service was extremely pleasant - attentive, competent, quick, unobtrusive and courteous - the atmosphere was inviting, the Indian pop in the background was a pleasure and the whole atmosphere was so cozy and relaxed at the same time that we would have liked to move in there. And when I asked 2 and a half weeks later if they had found my lighter, which I had lost, they had even refilled the petrol. All we can do is to ensure that this oasis remains intact for a long time.

The first and oldest Indian restaurant in Hamburg completely fulfilled my expectations: a great, very pleasant atmosphere with courteous, always polite staff. The buffet was small but nice. There were different dishes and there was still enough choice... fresh, warm naan bread was always brought. We really liked it 😊

Great dinner, with very friendly service. We tried both the buffet and à la carte. The chef Chinta Mani even came directly to our table and brought us extra daal and naan. We will be happy to come back.

We were also there for a Jochen Schweizer candle light dinner. Unfortunately, despite having made a reservation, we were not allowed to sit in the winter garden like other guests. Instead, you were given a small, rickety table just to the right. There was no tablecloth, but there were cards that had to be sorted out. Obviously there are differences between guests and “Jochen Schweizer” dinners. I wouldn't recommend it for dinner. As a guest I cannot leave a review. We're definitely not coming back. The visit was May 2023. I had given the prices for 2 and not for one person and corrected this. The contribution has therefore increased and corresponds to our visit 05/23.

Really delicious! The naan bread was particularly amazing. Super nice service and totally relaxed atmosphere. My tip: try the Yogi tea after eating – it relaxes your stomach and head! ;) Back soon.

Mega Indian – absolute insider tip! I was traveling in Hamburg for work and just wanted to grab something to eat. What I got then completely surprised me: for me, one of the best Indians ever! The dishes are not run of the mill like you would expect from any other Indian. There's real creativity here! The papadum is prepared in a special way - not just crispy, but served with a special shape and sophisticated filling. The chutneys are also homemade and have a unique taste. I have e.g. B. experienced a chutney with coconut milk and yoghurt for the first time - simply brilliant! The food stands out clearly, with a clear unique selling point. Service? 1A – friendly, fast, attentive. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Hamburg!

A feast for the senses – incredibly delicious food! As soon as I entered the restaurant I immediately felt at home. The atmosphere was warm, the decor tasteful and the smell of the spices immediately made you want to eat. I chose the lamb biryani – and it was just perfect! The rice was fluffy, fragrant and full of flavors, the lamb was buttery tender and the spices were just right. The combination of cardamom, cloves and a hint of saffron made the dish a real taste experience. A refreshing mango lassi was served with it - creamy, fruity and with just the right amount of sweetness. It was the perfect complement to the spicy biryani and provided a great balance. The service was excellent - friendly, attentive and with a lot of knowledge about the dishes. You immediately notice that the cooking here is done with love and tradition. A wonderful evening with great food - I can highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to my next visit!

A culinary experience with heart and tradition I was in this Indian restaurant for the first time yesterday – and it was an absolute highlight! As soon as I entered I was warmly greeted and I immediately felt the family atmosphere. You can tell that this restaurant has been run with passion for decades. The menu offers a great selection of traditional dishes and I chose a butter chicken with fresh naan. What can I say? Simply delicious! The chicken was tender, the sauce creamy and full of flavor. The homemade naan was also perfect – slightly crispy on the outside, soft and warm on the inside. My companion had a vegetarian dish that was also fantastically seasoned. The service was attentive, friendly and always there with a smile. You don't feel like a guest here, but almost like part of the family. I will definitely come back – absolute recommendation!

We went there for the buffet and received a very friendly welcome. The buffet is small but nice, and everything is delicious. There's a good selection of vegetarian dishes, including a few vegan specialties, plenty of dips, and fresh bread. We felt very comfortable and will definitely be back!

I was recently at Shikara in Hamburg and I absolutely loved the Indian tapas! The garlic prawns in particular were perfectly prepared and full of flavor, while the paneer honey offered a great sweet and spicy combination. The service was super friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was very pleasant. If you like unique tapas in Hamburg, you should definitely try Shikara! Stylish, fine ambience will give you a try at the evening buffet

I am from the North of England so I am used to a good curry, I decided to try Shikara in Altona, Hamburg since I was staying for the week. I was completely impressed with the welcoming staff and the food was amazing, they also serve Kingfisher which is a great bonus and goes very well with a Chicken Jalfreizi. I would highly recommend this place, the staff and food are top class!!!!!

Simply a great Indian restaurant that has always tasted delicious for years. Lately the food has gotten even better. The new buffet concept is also a great innovation for many guests, as they can now try out different dishes in one evening. Service exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Top! We were at Sternschanze a long time ago and by chance we were at Shikara Ottensen today. We were very positively surprised, unfortunately people often leave a positive review and are disappointed, but here we were actually surprised at the 4.3. The Shikara has probably been around for 38 years and that is reflected in everything. You can tell the atmosphere and the team is working hard.

A culinary highlight! By a lucky coincidence, I ended up at Shikara with a friend today - and what a hit! Although I have tried many Indian restaurants in Berlin and Hamburg, none have impressed me as much as this one. The chicken saag was to die for – perfectly seasoned and incredibly tender. The starter and the refreshing drinks were also absolutely convincing. The warm atmosphere, attentive service and authentic flavors make Shikara a place I will definitely visit more often. If you love Indian cuisine (or want to learn to love it), you should definitely stop by here!
