The best Indian restaurant in the west of Hamburg! Very nice service and a cozy and tasteful atmosphere! We are regular guests at Shikara!

Mega Indian – absolute insider tip! I was traveling in Hamburg for work and just wanted to grab something to eat. What I got then completely surprised me: for me, one of the best Indians ever! The dishes are not run of the mill like you would expect from any other Indian. There's real creativity here! The papadum is prepared in a special way - not just crispy, but served with a special shape and sophisticated filling. The chutneys are also homemade and have a unique taste. I have e.g. B. experienced a chutney with coconut milk and yoghurt for the first time - simply brilliant! The food stands out clearly, with a clear unique selling point. Service? 1A – friendly, fast, attentive. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Hamburg!

A culinary experience with heart and tradition I was in this Indian restaurant for the first time yesterday – and it was an absolute highlight! As soon as I entered I was warmly greeted and I immediately felt the family atmosphere. You can tell that this restaurant has been run with passion for decades. The menu offers a great selection of traditional dishes and I chose a butter chicken with fresh naan. What can I say? Simply delicious! The chicken was tender, the sauce creamy and full of flavor. The homemade naan was also perfect – slightly crispy on the outside, soft and warm on the inside. My companion had a vegetarian dish that was also fantastically seasoned. The service was attentive, friendly and always there with a smile. You don't feel like a guest here, but almost like part of the family. I will definitely come back – absolute recommendation!

A feast for the senses – incredibly delicious food! As soon as I entered the restaurant I immediately felt at home. The atmosphere was warm, the decor tasteful and the smell of the spices immediately made you want to eat. I chose the lamb biryani – and it was just perfect! The rice was fluffy, fragrant and full of flavors, the lamb was buttery tender and the spices were just right. The combination of cardamom, cloves and a hint of saffron made the dish a real taste experience. A refreshing mango lassi was served with it - creamy, fruity and with just the right amount of sweetness. It was the perfect complement to the spicy biryani and provided a great balance. The service was excellent - friendly, attentive and with a lot of knowledge about the dishes. You immediately notice that the cooking here is done with love and tradition. A wonderful evening with great food - I can highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to my next visit!

We went there for the buffet and received a very friendly welcome. The buffet is small but nice, and everything is delicious. There's a good selection of vegetarian dishes, including a few vegan specialties, plenty of dips, and fresh bread. We felt very comfortable and will definitely be back!

The staff was very friendly and welcoming! The ambience was good, everything was very clean and modern. It could be more Indian. The starter was extremely tasty, the rice as the main course was okay - but that's a matter of taste.

I was recently at Shikara in Hamburg and I absolutely loved the Indian tapas! The garlic prawns in particular were perfectly prepared and full of flavor, while the paneer honey offered a great sweet and spicy combination. The service was super friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was very pleasant. If you like unique tapas in Hamburg, you should definitely try Shikara! I am from the North of England so I am used to a good curry, I decided to try Shikara in Altona, Hamburg since I was staying for the week. I was completely impressed with the welcoming staff and the food was amazing, they also serve Kingfisher which is a great bonus and goes very well with a Chicken Jalfreizi. I would highly recommend this place, the staff and food are top class!!!!!

Simply a great Indian restaurant that has always tasted delicious for years. Lately the food has gotten even better. The new buffet concept is also a great innovation for many guests, as they can now try out different dishes in one evening. Service exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Top! We were at Sternschanze a long time ago and by chance we were at Shikara Ottensen today. We were very positively surprised, unfortunately people often leave a positive review and are disappointed, but here we were actually surprised at the 4.3. The Shikara has probably been around for 38 years and that is reflected in everything. You can tell the atmosphere and the team is working hard.

A culinary highlight! By a lucky coincidence, I ended up at Shikara with a friend today - and what a hit! Although I have tried many Indian restaurants in Berlin and Hamburg, none have impressed me as much as this one. The chicken saag was to die for – perfectly seasoned and incredibly tender. The starter and the refreshing drinks were also absolutely convincing. The warm atmosphere, attentive service and authentic flavors make Shikara a place I will definitely visit more often. If you love Indian cuisine (or want to learn to love it), you should definitely stop by here!

On some days (I think Friday and Saturday) the Indian buffet is particularly delicious, with salads and delicious starters, several delicious warm main courses, fresh bread and desserts, which are available on small plates... The whole thing for €25 , which in my opinion is completely fine for the quality. Worth a visit if you have something nice to celebrate with friends.

This was our first time at Shikara. It is a beautiful restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere. The food tasted excellent. I can recommend the “Butter Chicken”. The dessert was also very tasty. The waitresses were very friendly and funny. Hospitality across the board. Great value for money. ☺️

Typical old building shop in Ottensen, ok, but also getting old. We were there as a group on New Year's Eve and a buffet was offered. I'll keep it short: Two "main courses" to choose from, the rest, which were on the left and right, were not very appealing and so I didn't take any of them or try them. The dishes were ok, nothing more and nothing less. I could hardly see what it was about and the small boards, which were filled out by hand, hardly seemed informative, let alone appealing. For dessert there was rice pudding, which was very good, and some piece of cake or something like that. The store was only moderately busy, but no one came by to ask if everything was okay. Even when the order was taken at the table, there was no eye contact and I had to call after them. And there wasn't even a thank you when paying, perhaps he thought his tip wasn't enough. But I was annoyed that I had given the four euros at all - because the food was far too expensive, far too little choice, zero courteous service with a manageable operation and then there was no thank you... phew, so I'll never be an Indian again. ✌️

We went to dinner with some colleagues who come from India and they told us that the food is quite authentic for an Indian restaurant in Germany. The waiters were very kind to us and helped us choose the dishes. The food for my taste was excellent. Highly recommended if you pass through Altona.

Last week we were able to spend a wonderful evening at a candlelight dinner in this wonderful restaurant. We drove 180 km to eat and enjoy in this great restaurant. Everything was perfect: the service, the staff and of course the food. We can recommend Shikara 1000%.

Food was delicious, with generous portions and tasty Chicken tikka masala, Dal and Butter Naan. Incredibly friendly staff, some of the nicest I’ve met in Hamburg. This place has definitely become my go to spot whenever I’m in the Ottensen area. Highly recommended

Ordered for New Year's Eve dinner with 40 people, coordinated several times by phone, discussed twice on site. On December 30th At 9:00 p.m. I wanted to reserve another appointment for mid-January. He had forgotten everything. Apparently I would never have said yes. Seating, food and prices AND arrival and duration until 8:30 p.m. were discussed. They almost ruined our New Year's Eve celebration. Thanks for NOTHING!!!!

We spent a lovely evening here in the cozy outdoor area. The food was delicious, there is a buffet at the weekend with a good selection for around €24 and the menu also offers a lot of good selection. The service was really great! We'd love to come back
