Great, authentic food. Very courteous service. I'd love to come back

Taste was ok and service friendly but the portions are ridiculous, way too small for the price. 18 euros for a small chicken dish with a tiny bowl of rice is not justified, even taking into account inflation and vat rise. I usually go to 2 other chinese restaurants in Cologne and the portions there for the same food are almost double. The other thing is, you get the bill written by hand on a piece of paper. Not even an official bill. I was left disappointed and hungry.

We were there for the first time today May 24th and it tasted great. Tip to everyone: take peppers seriously. I took Sichuan-style beef and the waitress said it was spicy. She was right.

Tasteless, poor quality, and not value for money! I ordered a fish noodle soup. Pictured on the menu was noodles in a rich fish broth, with white fish fillet slices, preserved vegetable, and sichuan peppers. What came instead was noodles in soy-based soup that tasted like soy sauce in hot water, tasteless, and two small slices of smelly fried fish with bones, and bak choy. I brought it up with the waitress, and she completely dismissed it, saying the picture is different, that the dish simply says "fish noodles soup"! I asked about the sichuan peppers and preserved vegetables, her response was "sichuan peppers not nice, this is better". Well, it was not.

We had a really tasty meal and we highly recommend it.

Absolutely no go experience. The food was way too expensive and served in a small portion. Guys, don't be fooled by the glitz and fake pictures on the menu. In terms of taste - "everything just fried and cooked in oyster sauce?"...- impression. And the whole thing cost €64.30 🙈 Really bad...Never! I'll never come here again!!!

This restaurant is not recommended. The food is neither authentic to the Shanghai region nor is it well prepared or of high quality. The latter could definitely be expected given the prices. Unfortunately, the portion sizes are also extremely small. In the end you can only pay in cash and the bill comes to the table not electronically, but handwritten on a waiter's note.

It is an authentic Northern Chinese cuisine. It offers a wide variety of specialty dishes. We tried 4 of them and all was delicious. A neat restaurant to dine with friends and family. Friendly and fast service. Cash payment only.

The overall experience was pretty good. Until the time of checkout, the lady boss asked me to pay cash in a very inappropriate tone. I said I wanted to swipe my card, and the lady boss acted like a housewife, as if I owed her something. It's understandable to want to evade taxes, but forcing customers to pay cash is unreasonable.

The food is neither good nor authentic. The service wasn't good either and overall I wouldn't come again and it's not worth trying. A lot of things are too soft and overcooked, the Sheng Jian Bao (pan fried pork buns) weren't crispy on the bottom, and there was way too much batter. The soup dumplings had no soup and the meat was tasteless. The Hong Shao Rou (Red Braised Pork Belly) was too salty, swimming in sauce and tough. It says a lot about a Shanghai Chinese restaurant if they can't even get the basics of Shanghai cuisine down.

The food was good, but unfortunately the service wasn't entirely convincing. It took a while for the food to arrive (which the waiter announced), but overall the service was a bit impatient. The portions were okay. The service could definitely be improved. Since I have already tried a few restaurants in Cologne, I would rather spend my money elsewhere.

I don't know where the good reviews come from, we definitely couldn't enjoy any starter, soup or main course. Over-seasoned, burnt taste, wobbly.

Honestly, it wasn't good! One time, the pictures on the menu look nothing like the food that comes next...the spare ribs were so tough, I couldn't chew them, let alone eat them. We had the food returned immediately, then there were discussions... unfortunately our first date there went completely wrong!

The food was ok but the service was so bad. First of all, we weren't very hungry so we ordered a starter, a main course and two more rice. The waitress (or maybe the boss) looked at us strangely and asked if that was all. After the meal we wanted to pay by card and she said again, annoyed, "I'd rather use a card" even though they have a device for card payments. And then comes the highlight. She calculated everything and we had to pay 39 euros instead of 35 euros. Then I asked if that was correct and calculated it again in front of my eyes and it was correct at 35 euros. So never go back again.

Recommend an authentic Shanghai canteen~ The owner and his wife are in harmony and make money. The dishes are all delicacies that are not easy to eat in Shanghai. The fresh meat mooncakes and shepherd's purse wontons are fresh and delicious. The first day of the new year brings a smooth year ^_^

The food was very tasty! The only thing I wouldn't order again would be the “braised duck” starter because it was leftover duck. Otherwise everything was solid to very tasty and the menu and the shop give an authentic vibe. It's definitely worth a visit.

I really can't understand negative reviews. We tried everything from appetizers to desserts. The service was friendly and willing to provide information. The food was freshly prepared, sufficient, very tasty and hot, which of course entails a waiting time. The price was absolutely reasonable for the quality. The ambience could use some work, but that's a matter of taste. The offered card payment and a proper invoice were a matter of course. We'll definitely come back when we're in Colonia again.

I originally wanted to try Shanghainese food, but I met a middle-aged female employee. I asked her if I could swipe my card. She said you can only swipe your card if it’s over 20 euros. I said I couldn’t afford 20 euros for lunch by myself. She said I could order anything for 20 euros. The nearby restaurants all cost 20 euros. Then I said I wanted to see if I had enough coins to order a 7 euro xiaolongbao. She probably misheard and left. She said 7 euros would make it even more impossible for you to swipe your card. I was very confused why. Isn't it normal for a restaurant to look down on its guests and be insulted if they don't want to pay 20 euros for lunch? Overall, a very mixed to rather negative experience. The service was not very friendly and the waiting time was extremely long. The dishes differ greatly from the pictures on the menu, especially when it comes to the size of the portions. Luckily we had ordered several dishes otherwise I wouldn't have been full. The food tasted good so far. Asking about paying in cash before ordering, which has already been mentioned several times, is absolutely not appropriate.

Almost zero vegetarian options, food is expensive and not so worth it. Service is very poor. The waitress was rude and very impatient. She told us that it was cash only but then we saw a table paying by card and when I asked to pay with card as well she literally treat us badly. Never going back again, there are plenty of better restaurants just across the street.

Mega delicious authentic food. Nice and spicy, perfect for winter. The plum wine was very tasty. The Mapo Tofu, pork belly and Sichuan beef are definitely recommended.

I just ordered here for the first time. Already eaten on site. I'm pausing the first movie I've watched in months to write this review. What a treat. German tongues are flooded with Europeanized “Asian” food, but “Shanghai Küche” along with “The Great Wall” keep the standards high for good Chinese food in Cologne. I was in China once and still dream about the delicacies I was able to try there. Thank you, Shanghai Küchen, for making it possible for me to dine at such a high level here in Cologne.

Wir haben dieses Restaurant ausgesucht, weil ich unbedingt einmal Xiao long baos probieren wollte :) Im Restaurant angekommen, wurden wir freundlich begrüßt und zu einem großen Tisch geführt - dieser war hinter/neben der Kasse, um die Ecke. Wir waren etwas (positiv) überrascht dass es noch einen zusätzlichen Raum gab. Der Platz hat für uns gereicht das Ambiente hatte seinen eigenen Charme. Es wird viel traditionelles mit modernen vermischt - mit Absicht oder nicht, kann man nicht genau sagen :D Wir waren zu fünft, und haben uns verschiedene Gerichte zum Teilen bestellt - darunter natürlich auch Xiao Long Bao. Da ich keinen Vergleich habe, war es schwer zu bewerten, aber geschmacklich begeistert war ich leider nicht. Ansonsten waren alle anderen Gerichte auch lecker, aber für mich persönlich recht durchschnittliches chinesisches Essen. Kein Gericht hat besonders hervor gestochen. Die Kellnerin war sehr nett, wirkte etwas hektisch, aber stets freundlich. Als wir alle Gerichte bestellt hatten, sagte sie uns, dass es zu wenig sei, und wir davon sicherlich nicht satt werden würden. Wir haben darauf vertraut und noch mehr bestellt, was aber leider am Ende zu viel war, sodass wir auch zwei Gerichte zum Teil mit nach Hause nehmen mussten - das war also nicht die beste Beratung (aber wohl lieb gemeint). Zu 5. haben wir bestellt: 1x Xiao long bao, 2x Sheng jian baozi, 1x geschmorter Schweinebauch, 1x MaPo Tofu, 1x Auberginen + Kartoffeln, 1x Crispy Chicken auf Gemüsebett. Reis gab es noch dazu. Insgesamt fanden wir den Besuch nett, aber es war leider nichts Besonderes für uns. Preis-Leistungsverhältnis finde ich noch im Rahmen, aber die kleinen Gerichte könnten meiner Meinung nach auch etwas günstiger sein. Pro Person haben wir am Ende inkl. Getränke ca. 27€ bezahlt.

Sehr schlechte Erfahrung. Das Essen hat überhaupt nicht geschmeckt.

Baozi sind Hefeteig Bällchen aber was ich gegessen habe war ein halbgekochtes Weizenmantel. Banana Nachtisch war gar nicht knusprig und Honig fehlte. Extra Reis ist vergessen worden. Nur das Kungpao ähnliches Gericht war ok. Wontonsuppse war auch ok. 50€ rausgeschmissenes Geld.

A weird place I would say! When came in, the lady at the bar just stood there, not talking to any customer, not serving dishes or drinks, not leading new customers to their tables… It took longer for them to bring ur dishes than other restaurants normally. The spicy beef dish I ordered looked so different from the picture in the menu. The beef they gave to me was like a dark soy sauce beef! And I found hair in my chicken as well. Oh, and they allow white customers to pay by card, but if you are Chinese, they will ask you to pay by cash. We all know what this is about, don’t we? Overall, terrible experience. Update on 20/11/2023 after the merchant’s reply: I have added their reply to my review as the last picture. They clearly know what they are doing is both unethical and illegal. I never asked to pay with WeChat as I don’t have any money in WeChat. Nor did the Chinese customer sitting in the same area as me in the restaurant that night either. What happened was, after taking orders, the waitress came to us and asked us if we can pay by cash without saying anything! And she didn’t ask this to the white couple who was sitting between us. Instead, when that white coupe asked for the bill, the waitress brought card machine together with their bill to their table. Shanghai kitchen, stop lying!

Das Essen war geschmacklich ganz lecker, allerdings sind 2 Gerichte lauwarm bis kalt gebracht wurden außerdem waren die Portionen relativ klein. Der Service sowie das Ambiente sind waren gut.

Das Essen war sehr lecker. Nur leider haben wir da gegessen und anstelle von 40,90€ mussten wir 45,30€ bezahlen. Dies ist leider ein sehr übler Beigeschmack. Gehen dadurch da definitiv nicht nochmal hin!

A good Chinese restaurant but adapted to the local tastes, in my opinion.

Though the food was immaculate, the experience was completely ruined by an incompetent waitress. Such a pity.

Preis/Leistung hat nicht wirklich gepasst. Wir haben mit drei Leuten ca.70€ da gelassen und ich war nicht satt. So besonders hat es auch nicht geschmeckt.

Lange nicht mehr so schlecht chinesisch gegessen!!! Die meisten Sachen waren völlig versalzen… lieblos zubereitet nicht wirklich authentisch, -es sei denn man verortet TK-Dim Sim und Tütensuppen nach Shanghai. Nie wieder.

We came here with a group of colleagues. Service was extremely unfriendly, food took an hour to be served, the actual dish looks nothing like in the menu. I was the only German-speaking person in the group, and I felt extremely embarrassed for the poor service. Definitely cannot recommend this place to anyone!

Autentisk stemning og svær meny. Vi var 14 i selskapet og smakte masse forskjellig. ALT VAR GODT!!! Lite utvalg av drikke, men alt-i-alt en god opplevelse.

Das Essen ist einfach genial! Die Vorspeisen haben mir am besten gefallen und die Hauptspeise ist auch richtig richtig gut! Die zwei Damen, die uns bedient haben waren super nett und hilfsbereit und es hat richtig spaß gemacht hier zu sein!

Xialongbao also known as soup dumplings were very disappointing and no soup at all. The service lady was annoyed at us for wanting to try only a starter. Not a great experience.

The ribs were not freshly cooked and in a lot of sauce and the schezuan beef was a soup. Is it for German taste as it is totally different in the Uk. They did not offer to make me a chicken version so again not freshly made. I was charged €40!! They did not accept visa. Absolutely stunned.

Waren zum ersten Mal da ,Vorspeisen waren frisch und lecker die zwei Hauptgerichte waren sehr schmackhaft und die Bedienung sehr freundlich Wir kommen gerne wieder 👍🏻

Eine weitere negative Bewertung muss ich hier lassen. Ich hatte Rindfleisch mit Zwiebeln etc. - einfach ungenießbar (Kostenpunkt 17 €). Ich weiß nicht was mit dem Fleisch veranstaltet wurde, aber das Fleisch war weich wie Kaugummi und nicht genießbar. Fast gar kein Gemüse. Mini Portionen....Reis wurde extra brechnet, das hat man am Anfang auch nicht erwähnt. Eistee aus Tetra Pack ohne Früchte für 4,90 € anzubieten ist unterirdisch. Die Telleroptik/-größe einfach grauenvoll. Und das wird als Restaurant verkauft. Da platzt mir der Kragen. 0 Punkte!

Das Restaurant was sehr leicht zu finden und auch überraschend lecker. Wir hatten Gyoza und Xiao Long Bao welche wirklich köstlich waren. Der Service war ebenfalls sehr zufriedenstellend und wir wurden warm empfangen. Das Restaurant in einem ist wirklich zu empfehlen.

Vegetarian noodle soup was incredible! Sour and rich, tons of veggies, absolutely delicious. I wish I could have eaten the whole thing!

Wenn man die Speisekarte anschaut, sehen die Gerichte toll aus, aber das tatsächliche Gericht weicht extrem von den Bildern ab. Etwas enttäuschend. Geschmacklich teilweise ok, aber teilweise auch zu salzig.

Phantastische Suppen, beste Peking-Ente in Köln

Nicht sonderlich lecker. Vorspeise nicht durch, Hauptgang wurde spontan zu einer mittelmäßigen Suppe gemacht.

Essen stark abweichend von de Schaubildern und kleiner in Natura. Hatte die kalte Ende, welche sehr zäh und fettig war. Das einzige was gepasst hat, war die Schärfe. Reis zum Hauptmenu kostet extra. Vieles ist nur mit Schweinefleisch.

Pekingsuppe war ungenießbar, ganz komische Zutatenzusammenstellung. Rindfleisch mit Ingwa, das Fleisch roch nicht gut und auch hier waren die Gewürze irgendwie komisch zusammengestellt. Dazu kommt noch, dass ich für Getränk, Suppe und ein einfaches Hauptgericht 30€ bezahlt hab. Also ich werde weiter um die Ecke zum King Wah gehen ;)

Authentisch wie in Shanghai. Richtig gutes chinesisches Essen.

Der Tipp kam von Freunden. Und ich wurde absolut positiv überrascht!! Service und Essen waren sehr gut.

Mein Freund sah, wie eine Maus unter dem Schrank in die Küche rannte, was den Gesamteindruck völlig verdarb. Das Essen war gut, aber für meinen persönlichen Geschmack etwas zu fettig. Ich habe in Shanghai viel bessere chinesische Küche probiert. Der Service war seltsam, obwohl das Personal höflich war, näherten sie sich unnötig oft unserem Tisch, nahmen die Teller, als wir noch nicht fertig waren, und fragten etwa 20 Mal, ob alles in Ordnung sei. Ich hätte 4 Sterne gegeben, aber die Maus hat alles zerstört.

Vor ein paar Jahren war ich mal hier und fand das Essen gut. Daher habe ich ein paar Freunde mitgebracht, die auch alle lange in China gewohnt haben. Diesmal waren wir sehr enttäuscht — keins der Gerichte war nach unserem Dafürhalten auch nur annähernd authentisch oder sonst irgendwie gut. Schade.

Das Essen ist o.k., laut Karte ohne künstliche Geschmackverstärker, was ja sehr zu begrüßen ist, aber es fehlt teilweise auch das Aroma. Das Sprechen mit der Bedienung war ähnlich dem Deutsch der Speisekarte. Für den Kölner gab es die "neue" Kölsch-Marke "Sino" zu entdecken - vielleicht doch Kölsch aus Shanghai...?

Ich hatte Tisch reserviert, Trotzdem musste ich 1 Stunde auf Platz warten, dananch 30 min auf Bestellung gewartet und am Ende genau 70 min aun meine Essen!!! Niemals wieder, niemals

Awful. They brought us a bowl with a hair inside. And after we report that they disposed the hair and they refuse to accept it. The behaviour of the staff was really bad and the food was nothing like pictures in the menu. Not recommend at all

The staff did explain that they had more guests than usual, but we must have waited an hour for our order. We pointed at the whole duck in the menu, but got the plate in the picture with just a layer of duck meat above vegetables. This wasn't that unexpected for the price, however. Overall the food tasted nice, and I liked that you can order dishes to share with people, which is like eating at home instead of in a restaurant.

Jedoch sind die Gerichte etwas kleiner als wir gedacht haben, ist die Sauce ganz typisch Shanghai Style! Mir gefällt auch das gastfreundliche Team;) Daumen hoch!

Very unfriendly and arrogant waitress. 之前几年一直很喜欢去他们家，然而他们家新来的服务员明明是中国人却中文捉急且态度恶劣。 不止一次在电话预定的时候出现沟通障碍。尽管我和我的朋友在电话中反复跟她确认几次，而且她也说了自己听懂了，等我们到店之后却还是一团乱麻。 最恶心的是，我们跟她指出错误，她还一直甩锅，不愿意认错道歉！

Sehr leckeres Essen und toller Service. Mein letzter Besuch ist leider schon ein paar Monate her, ich werde aber auf jeden Fall wiederkommen. Mir wurden tolle Gerichte vorgeschlagen und ich fühlte mich sehr gut aufgehoben :)

Wir waren zu dritt , hatten auch Vorspeisen und haben beim anderen probiert . Es war absolut köstlich , ein wahrer Gaumenschmaus !!!

OH NO ! Wer weiss wie Leckeres essen schmeckt sollte definitiv NICHT dort hin. Nicht mal 1 Punk möchte ich geben In den Edemames waren kleine Fleisch und Reis reste drinne und komischer weise auch teils mit zimt drauf. Fast alles hat nach essig geschmeckt. Gezwungen nett war das Personal. Besteck dreckig. Kassenbeleg wird wurde nach Anfrage vergeben.

Shocked at the blatant racist attitude the female waitress is having. First she shushes me away from a table which was (really not obviously!) reserved for others, like I am a dog. Then she tells me to "Go out! Look!", when I asked her about the midday menue, AGAIN like I am a homeless person asking for free food. It was ridicoulus the way she treated me. Then, when the food that I ordered was ready, she brang it to my table asking me (in very poorly understandable german) If "I could eat even with chopsticks." Every bit by it's own would've been okay to not take it personally, but after a chinese person walks in, taking the "reserved" place without asking, allthewhile she hastily moves over to remove the poorly placed "reserved" marker. As if it is no matter anymore, that this place is reserved, I snapped. I spoke to my table neighbours, asking if this is the normal way. They said I shouldn't take it personally, but also said the waitress is really special and her bad german might account for the seemingly arrogant and rude way. She could hear me ranting and looked our way as I was clearly pointing her way. So weird to see that this is the moment where she suddenly could ask me if I needed anything else.... all in all a terrible experience from the moment I walked in. Food might be nice and traditional, but i would take any other place in Cologne than this one!

All of the dishes exceeded expectations. We started with simple hot and sour soup, but with a noticeable black pepper flavoring and meaty chunks of mushroom, it proved to be a great enhancement. That was followed by incredibly flavorful cumin beef, followed itself by pork belly so tender that the fat melted in your mouth while the meat delivered rich burst of flavor. Excellent.

Update: I had originally given then 4 stars, but recently after multiple orders their quality has unfortunately gone basically to 0. I inquiried the restaurant multiple times whether their chef is changed or something but didn't get a proper answer. Wouldn't recommend for the time being! The food is authentic and delicious, and you can tell it's made of good quality material. The taste is usually mellow, no ingredient to stand out with a after taste of sweetness which is specialty of Shanghai. The ambience is old-school however, I would recommend take out.

Einfach lecker! Mein Lieblingsrestaurant in Köln und immer einen Besuch wert. Ich empfehle hier insbesondere den Geschmorter Schweinebauch sowie das Mapo Tofu, aber unterm Strich waren alle Gerichte hier lecker bis deliziös!

Manche Gerichte erinnern an Auftauware aus dem Supermarkt, keine Qualität für den Preis. Einige Nudeln sind etwas zu salzig, aber immer noch akzeptabel. Das Schlimmste ist der Service, die Kellnerin hat keine Geduld und behandelt die Gäste ohne Respekt. Ich und meine Freunde wurden plötzlich von der Kellnerin ohne Grund angeschrien. We hebben hier heerlijk gegeten. De menu kaart is wat verwarrend doordat hoofd en voorgerechten door elkaar staan. Bediening is vriendelijk maar niet altijd oplettend.

Wirklich chinesische Küche hier. Alles sehr schmackhaft, teilweise aber mit Sicherheit gewöhnungsbedürftig für europäische Gaumen. Stichwort: Schweinebauch. Wer gefragt wird, ob es "scharf" oder "normal scharf" sein soll, sollte weise entscheiden.

Unprofessional + unfriendly. When we walk in the worker just show us the table with her nose, and it was not cleaned. I asked politely to clean the table for us.I read inpatient feedback from her eyes, seems I asked too much Service. And we Wait 10 minutes to clean the table. And another 10 minutes later they asked us to change a table. Because they need to serve bathos table to other guest, but We did with pleasure, and Wait Another 10 minutes later nobody to table ask anything. Seems two person for dinner is absolutely not interested for them… so I just left without saying goodbye. Hahahahah with this attitude I don’t think their dish would be delicious. Never recommend!

Delicious dim sum. A bit expensive though.
