The three of us at Shalimar Express enjoyed a small but excellent buffet. The food was fresh and deliciously seasoned. The chicken was tender, and there was a variety of sauces and dips to suit every taste (from fruity to spicy). A definite insider tip!

Nan roti is looking like afgan roti , what you can buy from Turkish supermarket. Garlic butter nan didn’t test proper. I didn’t got proper test in tandoori also.

We ordered from there for the first time yesterday and were absolutely thrilled. The delivery was super fast (even at lunchtime!), and the food was piping hot and stayed that way for a long time. The customer service over the phone was also very friendly, which immediately made a positive impression. Everything tasted delicious, the spices were authentic, and the spicy food really is spicy, which we love. We were especially delighted with the complimentary mango cream – absolutely delicious, a lovely touch. It was our first time ordering – but definitely not our last. The food was unfortunately disappointing for the price. We often eat Indian food and therefore had higher expectations. The butter naan didn't taste anything like naan, but more like a store-bought flatbread from a kebab shop. What a shame!

We ordered a chicken biryani, a special biryani, and a lentil soup. It's served with crackers and dips. How nice! The lentil soup was delicious. The biryani dishes are generous, well-filled portions and truly outstanding! The meat is tender, deliciously seasoned with herbs and a very slight spiciness. The special biryani is a mix of saffron rice, tender pieces of lamb and chicken, shrimp, vegetables, and pieces of paneer (a type of delicious white cheese). It's topped with tasty almond pieces. The chicken biryani is the same, only with only tender chicken pieces. It also came with a delicious raita, a refreshing yogurt dip. The restrooms were clean. You can sit inside or outside, or order takeout/delivery. The staff is incredibly clean, friendly, and helpful. Any leftovers we had were neatly packaged and given to us upon request. Payment was cash at the time, so that's good to know. All in all, a wonderful pampering visit and definitely worth repeating!

Authentic, fresh, and simply delicious! I really didn't expect the food to be this good; I highly recommend it! I had Butter Chicken (No. 87), Chicken Tikka (No. 151), basmati rice, papadum with three sauces, and a mango and yogurt lassi. Everything was perfectly prepared, as authentic as in Oman or the Emirates. The sauces (tamarind chutney, yogurt raita, and mint chutney) were incredibly fresh, finely balanced, and suited to every taste, from mild to spicy. The Butter Chicken was creamy and aromatic, the Chicken Tikka tender and juicy, and the Mango Lassi was truly the best I've had in over 15 years. A true taste experience, 10 out of 10. If you love authentic Pakistani/Indian cuisine, you absolutely have to eat here!

Naan bread is delicious and served in generous portions. The butter, mango, and chicken jalfrezi are highly recommended, as is the tikka mazala. It looks unassuming from the outside, but it's just as cozy inside and out, and I highly recommend it.

We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Korma, and Butter Chicken, and everything was delicious! If you like something sweeter, I especially recommend the Butter Chicken and Chicken Korma. I was just there for the first time and was given a friendly welcome and a delicious drink. I ordered a curry box to try it out and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. The chicken pieces were beautifully tender and the curry with the rice was just as I imagined it. I will definitely be back 👍🏽

We wanted to eat in, but card payments aren't possible. I can't comment on the service/ambience. We ordered through Lieferando. Delivery time was one hour. We ordered palak paneer and chicken curry. Both were packaged in sealed containers, like a ready meal. This is fine for hygiene and transport reasons. The food, however, was a disappointment. There was neither savory nor any spice in the food. Then they say each dish comes with a piece of bread and three dips. Only one dish came with three dips and half a taco for dipping. But that wasn't enough either.

Re-writing this review again because one review was not enough. It is the best Indian/Pakistani restaurant in Herne and their quality has never dropped, be it for service and most importantly the food. The owner is also very kind and has offered free Mango Lassi to us on various occasions. I highly encourage everyone to visit and have a taste of their tasty food.

Since April 2025, there's finally been an Indian/Pakistani restaurant in our neighborhood. We've eaten there six times since then and are more than thrilled. You wish you could experience such hospitality in every restaurant. Every visit is simply very warm from start to finish, and the dishes are an explosion of flavors. Whether all-you-can-eat or à la carte, all dishes are freshly prepared, and you can tell you're doing something good for your body. I hope you stay with us for a long time, because you conjure up simply fantastic things in the kitchen. If I could give more than 5 stars, I definitely would. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for a delicious Indian dining experience. The detailed explanations to our questions made it even more enjoyable. Tasty papadums and dips were a lovely start. The creamy chicken soup was excellent. Our main courses were cooked to perfection and fresh with instructions on when to serve. Yes, according to the explanation, by an Indian chef (and the owner too). We were also surprised with a small sweet with fruit garnishes from the farm's own orchard. The price/performance ratio, as everyone always says, was fair. The service areas were clean and tidy. The restaurant was lovingly decorated and had a pleasant atmosphere. We always knew where we were and where we could go again.

We had the food delivered; it took a little over an hour for a larger order, which was perfectly fine. However, the order had stated an earlier time, so we called to confirm. Our order arrived shortly after. The food was delicious and the portions were more than adequate. Unfortunately, one dish was missing (out of seven), but it was replaced very quickly. We would order here again and highly recommend it.
