The owner is really very accommodating. Today I ordered something to take away for the first time. While we waited there was a delicious mango lassi and various dips plus bread to try. The vegetarian dish tasted very good and I will use the delivery service in the future. The whole kitchen area was open and very clean, which was the most important thing for me.

It's very good that Indian cuisine is finally enriching the gastronomy in Herne. Shalimar offers a wide selection of vegan, vegetarian and other traditional Indian dishes. The dishes are freshly prepared. The portions are well sized and made from fresh ingredients. Very good price and performance ratio as well as friendly service. Always my pleasure.

A truly outstanding restaurant! We have rarely seen a catering operator who is so committed. Since the restaurant opened around the corner from us, we've found it difficult to go or order anywhere else. Simply delicious dishes in filling portions at a good price. Highly recommended!

As friends of Indian cuisine, we chose this (quick) restaurant on our trip to the Ruhr area. There is space for 12 people at four tables. Since the focus is on takeaway, we had no problems getting anything. All the dishes we tried were very tasty. There were also dishes that we didn't know from other Indian restaurants and we really enjoyed them. The service was very friendly. As is often the case for Indian cuisine, the prices are not necessarily bargains, but they are still reasonable and ultimately definitely worth the money (see photo of the menu from October 24). We can highly recommend this fast food restaurant.

Perfect food – highly recommended! I recently ordered biryani, naan and other dishes for the children. Everything was perfect! The food was incredibly tasty, freshly prepared and well packaged. The biryani was a real highlight – perfectly seasoned, tender meat and fluffy rice. The children's meals were also delicious. Everything is Halal, so you can enjoy it without any worries. Absolutely recommended!

Great Indian restaurant with delicious food and very nice service☺️ I recommend the Paneer Jalfrezi. We also tried the Mango lassi, Tandoori Mix, butter chicken and garlic naan. Overall all was amazing!

Very tasty, large selection, friendly people

The focus is certainly on “take away” and “have it delivered”. However, the seating inside is also quite nice. Service is super-friendly. The dishes were of very good quality and perfectly seasoned. First there were three papadums with three sauces. I then had mulligatawny soup which tasted exceptionally good. My wife had a small mixed salad - nice and colorful and crunchy and fresh. For the main course, my wife had a mild, vegetarian Malai Kofta (vegetable balls in cashew cream sauce with saffron and almonds). I chose a spicy Madras lamb with coconut (super tender meat). Both were very different and both mild and spicy were very well seasoned. Then there were 2 semolina balls with honey as a free dessert. Finally, I would like to mention that we are no longer able to eat large portions so well. The second half was nicely wrapped up for us to take home. We really enjoyed eating at Shalimar and will be back!

We were there for the first time today and took something with us. The waiting time on site was sweetened with a free mango lassi, which tasted very good. The food was very tasty and the portions were very generous. You can definitely eat it twice or you'll be very hungry. The large chips with the 3 dips, which are usually available as a free starter at Indian restaurants, are also included with the order. However, I think it's worth mentioning that you want spiciness, as the Butter Chicken was spicier (really not by much) than the Chicken Tikka Masala. The ambience on site is not necessarily intended for “going out for a fancy meal”. However, the main business is the delivery service, if I understood correctly. The staff are very friendly and we would definitely order/pick up food there again. We recommend.

Went there to eat, very good heavenly food. The staff very friendly and reliable. Price performance top! Everything freshly prepared can't be beaten for an express snack! For example, I called around 10 p.m. and got something to take away even though they were actually already off work. What can I say? If you're a gourmet, you're in good hands there. Thanks for everything and I'll be back... It's a shame that it doesn't exist in Wuppertal :(

This restaurant deserves more than 5 stars. The food is super delicious. Always delivered on time. If you order locally, they are always super nice and you don't have to wait long. Ps: their mango juice is very delicious

Very tasty food, good selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes. Very friendly service, small, clean interior, preheated plates. We felt comfortable and were well fed. We had Mushroom Masala, Tinda Masala and a portion of Garlic Naan.

We've been ordering Indian food here again and again since it opened and we're always impressed. Today we didn't order by phone, but directly on site. In addition to the really freshly prepared and delicious food, the friendliness and willingness to respond to requests was hard to beat. We will definitely come again and again.

Of course the ambience is not like a restaurant, but it's OK. It's just a fast food atmosphere. But the people there (especially the “waiters”) are extremely friendly and very attentive. The four of us felt super comfortable, somehow as if we already knew each other. The food was great, we had 3 different dishes and were all more than satisfied. We have often ordered food here and had it delivered or picked it up ourselves. The food tastes fantastic. Papadam and three sauces are added to main courses as a small starter. Totally great! And if you still have to wait when you pick it up, you'll be kindly asked to sit at a table and get a mango lassi on the house. Absolutely recommended!

I ordered for delivery: food was well packaged, still super hot, there were large portions, good quality of food and very tasty! I can recommend it.

The selection is huge and the dishes have their own character. The size is also filling. The location on the main street is of course not that comfortable. But the food is so fantastic that I prefer to go to Shalimar Express when I have visitors. There is always delicious papadum with three sauces as an appetizer. We are always treated very courteously and hospitably. Dogs are also welcome. I have had good experiences with the delivery service so far. :-)

This Indian restaurant is a delight! There are a variety of dishes - vegetarian, vegan, chicken, lamb, fish and seafood - plus many starters and side dishes. I placed my order on the spot and took two main courses plus starters. The food was very tasty! There are three sauces for the starters, all of which are delicious, but the yoghurt mint sauce is simply fantastic! To sweeten the reasonable waiting time, I even got a delicious mango lassi on the house! Very friendly staff, fairly large portions and a reasonable price-performance ratio complete the enthusiastic impression! The parking space is a bit tight, but with a little searching you can find something on the side streets. A restaurant absolutely recommended for ordering, picking up or eating on site in the small dining room.

Super nettes und freundliches Personal, dazu mega leckeres Essen. Serviert wird auf eine tolle Weise und ich empfehle jedem es auszuprobieren. Das Ambiente wird kalt und nicht sehr einladent, was aber das gute Personal und das Essen deutlich weg macht. Wir sind zufällig dort gelandet und das Lokal ist für uns ein kleiner Geheimtipp

Welch angenehme Überraschung! Zufällig mit der Google-Nahbereichssuche gefunden! Das Ambiente erinnert an einen Inder wie man sie aus Großbritannien kennt: sehr schlicht und einfach. Aber der freie Blick in die offene Küche schafft dafür Vertrauen. Eine super lange Speisekarte. Jede Richtung wird dabei bedient. Auch die Vegetarier kommen nicht zu kurz. Das Kimar Mattar war köstlich. Die Garnelensuppe hervorragend und die Portionen sind groß!

Das Essen war hervorragend! Wir hatten die Zwiebelringe, Samosa, Garlic Naan, Butter Chicken und Mater Paneer. Alles sehr lecker, angenehme Schärfe und super abgeschmeckt. Der Reis war wunderbar locker, das Essen heiß und das Fleisch sehr saftig. Der Fahrer war super nett und freundlich! Es war unsere erste Bestellung, aber definitiv nicht unsere letzte!

Wahnsinn! Unser erstes mal parkistanisches Essen und es bleibt nicht das letzte Mal. Es war so lecker, dass wir planen die Karte durch zu probieren und diese ist riesig. Für den Lamm-, Fisch-, Hähnchen- vegan- und vegetarisch essenden Liebhaber ist alles dabei. Achtung: Keine Kartenzahlung möglich! Das Essen: Kurz zusammen gefasst: Ein Gedicht. Wir hatten beide Hähnchen. Zum Einen Chicken Tikka Masala und zum Anderen Chicken Jakhni. Die Portionen waren groß, dazu gab es leckeren Basmatireis und bei uns Knoblauchbrot. Vor jedem Hauptgericht werden Pamadam ( kleine getrocknete hauchdünne Brotscheiben) mit dreierlei Saucen serviert. Zum Abschluss gab es noch einen Gruß aus der Küche mit hausgemachten Grießbällchen. Der Service: Das ganze Team ist sehr aufmerksam, sehr zuvorkommend und sehr freundlich. Wir haben uns wie Zuhause gefühlt. Danke dafür. Das Ambiente: Für einen Eckladen hat man mit vier Tischen versucht einen geeigneten Platz zum Essen zu schaffen. Die Parkplatzsituation: Wir sind sicherlich 100 Meter gelaufen, aber es war jeden Meter wert. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder und freuen uns einen Ort mit so viel Herzlichkeit und Köstlichkeiten gefunden zu haben.

Sehr freundlich empfangen worden, während des Wartens gab es einen sehr leckeren kostenlosen, Mango-Lassi. Das Essen (Chicken Jskhni) wurde frisch zubereitet. Es war sehr lecker, allerdings war das Hühnerfleisch nicht sehr hochwertig, schmeckte ein wenig nach Discounterware. Das ist wahrscheinlich dem Preis des Gerichtes geschuldet. Für mich hätte es etwa schärfer sein dürfen, habe ich bei der Bestellung aber auch nicht gesagt. Für knapp 16€ gab es eine Portion, die für mich zwei Tage reichte, dazu gab es Naan Brot und drei leckere Dips. Da ich zum Mitnehmen bestellt habe, bewerte ich das Ambiente nicht. Das Ambiente ist Kategorie Imbiss, als Restaurant würde es für mich nicht durchgehen.

Ich bestelle immer mit Lieferung. Es ist immer warm, verdammt lecker und frisch. Heute gab es sogar ein Dessert umsonst dazu! Wenn ihr etwas leckeres, schnelles und "Mal was anderes" wollt sie ihr hier direkt richtig! Es ist mittlerweile mein Favorit und danke nochmal für das gratis Dessert :)

I've been looking for a restaurant to try indian cuisine in Herne. I came across this restaurant on maps and was surprised to see the ratings. I decided to try out the food. And I can say that it was worth each penny I spend there. I've tried the best garlic naan like here. Apart from food the service was amazing. Plates are served hot, which never experienced anywhere else. I'd recommend if you're looking for the small restaurant to try indian and Pakistani cuisine. They also deliver.
