Very friendly owner. The food was absolutely delicious. Spicy, though, really means spicy. We'll definitely eat there again next time we're in Herne.

Wir sind oft bei Shalimar, jedes mal waren wir sehr zufrieden, jetzt mit dem Buffet möglichkeit besonders weil man viel Auswahl hat. 100% recommended. Re-writing this review again because one review was not enough. It is the best Indian/Pakistani restaurant in Herne and their quality has never dropped, be it for service and most importantly the food. The owner is also very kind and has offered free Mango Lassi to us on various occasions. I highly encourage everyone to visit and have a taste of their tasty food.

We were there with a small group. The menu offers a wide selection. All of the group's drinks and food arrived at the same time. The food was hot and delicious. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The interior is functionally furnished. A bit more local decor would have been nice.

Since April 2025, there's finally been an Indian/Pakistani restaurant in our neighborhood. We've eaten there six times since then and are more than thrilled. You wish you could experience such hospitality in every restaurant. Every visit is simply very warm from start to finish, and the dishes are an explosion of flavors. Whether all-you-can-eat or à la carte, all dishes are freshly prepared, and you can tell you're doing something good for your body. I hope you stay with us for a long time, because you conjure up simply fantastic things in the kitchen. If I could give more than 5 stars, I definitely would. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for a delicious Indian dining experience. The detailed explanations to our questions made it even more enjoyable. Tasty papadums and dips were a lovely start. The creamy chicken soup was excellent. Our main courses were cooked to perfection and fresh with instructions on when to serve. Yes, according to the explanation, by an Indian chef (and the owner too). We were also surprised with a small sweet with fruit garnishes from the farm's own orchard. The price/performance ratio, as everyone always says, was fair. The service areas were clean and tidy. The restaurant was lovingly decorated and had a pleasant atmosphere. We always knew where we were and where we could go again.

We had the food delivered; it took a little over an hour for a larger order, which was perfectly fine. However, the order had stated an earlier time, so we called to confirm. Our order arrived shortly after. The food was delicious and the portions were more than adequate. Unfortunately, one dish was missing (out of seven), but it was replaced very quickly. We would order here again and highly recommend it.

We sat outside. The food is really very good and freshly prepared. They're currently running a special offer: the buffet is 9.99 on weekends, starting at 1 p.m. What I personally didn't miss was a selection of alcoholic beverages. There's a large selection of soft drinks, interesting spritzers, and even a delicious lassi. Very friendly staff.

The Indian food was a true taste experience! The butter chicken was incredibly delicious and the chicken was very tender, the naan was fresh and soft, and the mango lassi was wonderfully refreshing. Everything seemed very fresh and prepared with love. The service was friendly and attentive. Anyone who loves authentic Indian cuisine (or wants to experience it) should definitely stop by here. A culinary experience I will definitely repeat!

While driving by, I saw this place while looking for a restaurant open for lunch and tried it out. The appetizer platter for two with three different dips (spicy, fruity, and creamy-mild) was simply delicious! Be sure to specify the spice level for the main courses and/or ask for advice, because "spicy" is also Asian-style spicy!...but if you choose correctly, it's really, really delicious! A wonderful waitress, so friendly and attentive, and respectfully polite, which is really rare in the service industry. Communicative without being intrusive, thoughtful, and simply great! The dessert to finish was on the house: yogurt and coconut cream with raspberries and grapes. €45 for two people with drinks, which already seems too low to us! Another important addition: a fairly extensive menu with lots of dishes to try and a variety (and not just for show) of vegan and vegetarian dishes. A highly recommended little restaurant!

Great Indian food at Shalima Express in Herne! We ate at Shalima Express in Herne today – and it was a truly lovely visit. We really enjoyed the food, especially the samosas, which were a real highlight: crispy, well-seasoned, and simply delicious! 😋 The staff was super friendly and attentive, and we immediately felt at home. Restaurant is an exaggeration, food without expression and taste, bread like nan but of very poor quality and in the end Sunday lunch buffet 10 euros two people and two small Coca-Cola 2 euros per person, bill 28 euros, when asked why 28 euros and not 24 euros, the service was a common FRAUD, the man replied rudely that I only ate meat, I do not recommend this place to anyone, they are scammers, it is worth reporting to the tax office what is going on there

Very, very tasty. Just as delicious as their other snack bar in Herne. The outdoor ambiance here is even better in the summer. Thankfully, the food is exactly the same as at the other snack bar; it's top-notch. The only suggestion for improvement would be to offer wheat beer and regular beer, but it's not necessary.
