Selçuklu Hatay Künefe Restaurant Fredenbaum in Dortmund

Yesterday, we went to Selçuklu Künefe in Hatay. Initially, we ordered only pita because the prices were quite high. Unfortunately, the pita was a disappointment. Normally, the pita is slightly crispy on the edges and well-baked on the bottom; however, it arrived soft, oily, and almost doughy, and the meat was flavorless. Neither salad nor appetizers came with it; we requested one later. The appetizer was brought later, without our request, so we thought it was free, but it was added to the bill. The künefe also arrived very late, so late that we just wanted to finish it instead of enjoying it. On top of all that, the bill came to €77, and when we checked later, we realized we'd been charged €8 more. Overall, the service was poor, the food was mediocre, and the price/performance ratio was definitely unbalanced. I don't recommend it. I hope the establishment takes these comments into consideration and improves.

My biggest challenge on my first trip to Germany was figuring out where and how to eat halal, reliable food. I came across Selçuklu Restaurant through reviews and hearsay. It was definitely the right place. I couldn't eat anywhere else except Selçuklu Restaurant. Despite staying at a decent hotel, I traveled miles just to enjoy the open buffet breakfast and dinner. Everything was delicious. Thank you for your service, generosity, and generous offerings. May God bless you with more.

Unfortunately, the portions were tiny. Some of the pieces of meat were burnt. The quality of the meat was below average. The classic Turkish çay had been cooked for too long, which was unfortunately noticeable. Therefore, I cannot recommend it.

Not a hit! Some opinions from our group: Turkish pizza tastes very good. The Tavuk Sis portion is large, but the flavor isn't that great and the slices are too big. It is a 5 star restaurant for family dining in terms of atmosphere but it is a restaurant that falls short in terms of service. We were there by chance and spontaneously. Since there was a wait for the à la carte menu, we were asked if we wanted to eat from the breakfast/lunch buffet. (Arrived around 1:00 p.m.). We opted for the extensive buffet and a seat in the quiet annex. The restaurant is clean. The surfaces at the buffet were wiped down frequently, so minor spoon spills were immediately undone. The staff is very friendly and quick. The food was very, very tasty! There were savory and sweet, cold and hot dishes. Refills were prompt. The meat in the display for the à la carte dishes looked fantastic and tempting! If the walk weren't so far, we would definitely come back! The price for the buffet is absolutely fair! What I would have liked would have been labeling of the dishes, ideally including allergens. But perhaps that's not even necessary for connoisseurs... Absolutely a thumbs up!

What a fiasco! Selçuklu Hatay Künefe has become a place that is definitely not preferred anymore, and should not even be passed by. This restaurant that we used to love to come to is now a complete disgrace. We ordered Adana kebab and chicken shish. The portions have become ridiculously small, there is no taste, no care. Adana kebab was not fully cooked, and the peppers were burnt like coal. Despite this poor quality and carelessness, we paid a high bill. We were literally disgraced with our money. However, the biggest scandal was about hygiene! The restaurant was full of flies. There were at least 15 flies on our table. We could not relax during the meal. A dead fly came out of the salad! It was either directly in it or one of the flies on the table fell into it and died. Hygiene is zero. This is an unacceptable situation. When we told the waiters, we got the answer “everywhere is the same, there is nothing to do”. In other words, flies are the general condition of the restaurant! It was also clearly stated that no pesticide was applied. This restaurant has either changed hands or has surrendered to a mentality that does not care about the customer. No service, no taste, no hygiene. Everything is a disaster. Serving food in this environment is clearly playing with human health. Definitely do not go! Do not throw your health and money away. It is scandalous that such a place is even open.

We waited an hour and a half for the food to arrive. The food wasn't cooked all the way through, and no server made any effort to fix the problem. This is a place whose quality and service decline with increasing popularity.

We went for the open buffet breakfast. We really enjoyed the Hatay palate. Everything was delicious, especially the pastries. The staff was attentive and friendly. The place is also stylish and comfortable. My wife got lamb chops. The service was fast, the meat was delicious. The service was plentiful. I recommend it.

We ordered kunefe for 4 people. We waited for the waiter for about 10 minutes. We waited for the kunefe for about 25 minutes. I think this waiting time is too long for such a place. There was no big crowd in the evening. Frankly, this affected my score the most. Kunefe was standard. Since I have eaten better ones, kunefe seemed average to me. I can say that the price is normal for such a place. The place is nice but the music is too loud. When you add the people's voices, it becomes a crowded noise. The waiters are insufficient and they cannot get everywhere, there is no organization among them. Everything comes either too late or out of place. The kellepaça soup we drank was not cleaned well, if you say kunefe, it was a complete DISAPPOINTMENT. The only thing we liked was the consistency of the meat and the ambience of the restaurant. We went for the first time and we did not like it at all, the price was high, the service was low.

The reviews are extremely divided for a variety of reasons, which is why I would like to share my experiences so far. I've been coming here for almost 1 1/2 years when we're in Dortmund. The location is very clean and large, i.e. even if you don't have an appointment but you can find a place in 5-10 minutes (depending on the number of people because of the size of the table). On-site parking is available. When it's busy it's a bit tricky at the beginning, but by the second visit you'll know very close alternatives. The staff is always courteous and if a meal at the table does not meet expectations, in terms of heat of the dish or consistency, it will be taken care of. I like the food from the rice to the meat and of course the künefe. I usually prefer Kavurma, Adana or chicken as the volume of the grill plate is too much for me. Pleasant ambience due to quieter melodies, but usually a very high number of guests. The prices are justified, it's not fast food and it's also Helal, which in my opinion is not always a given when eating it outside. If you like, you can pray here before/after eating, just speak to one of the staff. Make up your own mind. Tastes differ. As a guest you are in very good hands here. You wait for a sign at the door, then someone picks you up, takes you to the hall, and delivers it to someone else at the door of the hall. It's a comedy. The food is cold, but the service is too hot to be eaten under fire under roasting hair. It was still boiling when it arrived and it took 15 minutes to arrive. They don't give napkins, 3 people used one napkin, they don't give us sugar for tea, I think it's a sin, there are no wet wipes to wipe our hands, we waited for appetizers but there were no appetizers for lahmacun, so don't eat lahmacun, they don't give you tea, sugar or napkins.

The food was good, but there were several issues. The waiting times were extremely long (30+ minutes), even though we paid extra due to Ramadan and there were only six menu options available. According to the menu, we were supposed to receive dessert, but we had to wait a long time for it as well. Since we were among the last guests in the room, we were even asked if we wanted dessert, despite it already being included in the menu. Additionally, the mixed grill platter was disappointing—what was supposed to be pirzola (lamb chop) turned out to be mostly just a piece of bone, as you can see in the pictures. The service was friendly, and the food was tasty, but overall, it was slow and inattentive.

Unfortunately, the quality of the food is not of the same standard as it is known outside of the month of Ramadan. There were also serious errors in the process. It is understandable that you try to enable every guest to eat at the same time. However, the appetizers set in advance and the soup served would be sufficient for this. When you get to the plated meals, it would be more effective if you worked through it group by group. It is not possible to have all the guests at the same time, and even the attempt is more likely to be met with a lack of understanding, which the waiters have to iron out with conversation. The idea of ​​the restaurant was to bring out the most ordered dish (grilled plate) first, then the next dish, etc. This automatically creates a large gap at each table. 60% of our table was finished eating by the time the last of us even had a plate. The quality also doesn't seem good due to the self-made "lack of time" (because of the desired process). Some of the meat was raw, some was charred. The plates looked like they had come out of a food-throwing competition. The starters served were a small side salad, 4 dates, 3 spoons of dips with bread (divided between 4 people) and a soup. The main course depending on your order and then a small sweet dish as dessert. The prices are already set in the higher range. Due to the quality and the process, it's a shame to spend so much money on it. Unfortunately our dessert was not included in the price. Unfortunately, the full surcharge was charged without taking into account or at least offering the free dessert. The next day we were reprimanded via WhatsApp message because we allegedly didn't make our reservation. (Paid receipt amounting to €1,200 presented as proof) It was a somewhat sharper tone that was met with a lot of incomprehension. We hope that this restaurant returns to its old quality, but then we probably won't be a guest again.

Wer ein stressfreies und respektvolles Iftar genießen möchte, sollte definitiv woanders hingehen!

Went there last night to break the fast, it was impressive how well everything was organized. The restaurant was completely full and EVERYONE got their food at the same time. Selcuklu is very beautifully decorated. You are also greeted very friendly. But I don't understand how prices can be so exaggerated on Ramadan of all days!? It's just too expensive. When we made a reservation for iftar, we saw that they had reserved a table for us in a glass section. When we sat down, it was very cold and it was incredibly cold from below. If you are opening the glass section in winter, you need to provide appropriate heating and insulation. At the same time, we wanted to order when we went, but they said you can only order from the Ramadan menu. I ask where the menu is, they say there is no physical menu. They said to check the website, but it is not on the site. They don't even know where it is :) Only the prices were written on the tools in the hands of the waiters. Unfortunately, it was only announced on site that the current menu was not available for breaking the fast. This was exchanged for a Ramadan card - which had 6+1 menus to choose from and at exorbitant prices. (e.g. soup, two skewers and dessert - 36€) At least the staff was very nice.

Even in the 2 star restaurant you get better food than here! That was our FIRST but also our EVER LAST visit! Guys, you can save yourself a visit, not everything that looks great from the outside also tastes delicious 😂

Don't understand the 4 stars. Was here during Ramadan and very disappointed despite the optimistic initial expectations. There were a few menus to choose from. In other words, you would have to choose one of these. The restaurant was full and you couldn't get in without a reservation. My selected menu cost 35 euros, salad was a small plate for 2 people. I didn't like the soup and stayed there (lentil soup), the meat was okay and the fries were a bit dry. The dessert Kadayıf was very dry and I couldn't finish it. The black tea also didn't meet my expectations. The separate prayer room gave me great pleasure and the service was very friendly and tried hard, which deserves praise. Came from over 100 km away. Even the künefe, for which the shop is supposed to be known, was a disappointment: soggy, without any real taste and definitely not freshly prepared. The service was just as bad - unfriendly and disinterested. I really expected more, but I absolutely cannot recommend this restaurant. Never again!
