Schuhbäck in Schwäbisch Hall

Unfortunately, I was served the worst beef goulash I have ever eaten. On the one hand, I have doubts as to whether it was really pure beef goulash because the pieces of meat clearly differed in color and consistency. On the other hand, the pieces were absolutely tough and everything tasted almost exclusively like tomatoes. For me, a piece of goulash has to be so soft that it can be split with a fork. This meal was miles away from that. It's incomprehensible to me that almost everyone at our table was served their food with a real load of panko flour on the filling side dishes. And respect for the bread dumplings: I have never seen "homemade" bread dumplings that were so uniform in shape and size. The chef seems to be a real machine. South Tyrolean top chefs, who are known for their excellent dumplings, should take an example. They don't get the "homemade" thing right. Irony off. Unfortunately, another negative point was the service. The answer to my complaint about the goulash was: I would pass it on to the kitchen. Nothing more was heard. Pretty poor in my opinion! Things then got interesting with the bill when the service employee wanted to charge me for a more expensive drink than I had and then tried to explain to me that the two drinks cost the same. He only reluctantly reissued the invoice. Because of all these circumstances, I was unwilling to pay a tip. The culmination was that the employee simply didn't give any change, but probably took tips for granted. This restaurant definitely doesn't get a recommendation from me.

For €30 you get half a portion that is worth maybe €10. We waited 40 minutes for it and the onions weren't cooked properly. The service only understands German poorly. The meat only tasted mediocre, if you can call it that. More like a piece of flesh. I will never enter here again.

We wanted to eat something and were received unfriendly so we left.

I'm thrilled! Rarely have I eaten such good German cuisine. The spaetzle and the sauce were simply unbeatable! The schnitzel was excellent and the value for money was simply top. Clear recommendation l.

Cozy restaurant with home-style cuisine and good service in the middle of the old town. Be sure to reserve. It is very well attended.

Bad experience. We spontaneously got a seat on a Friday evening and were looking forward to good home-style cooking at “Schuhbäck”. We left with the thought “never again”. No hospitality from the (presumably) boss, at least the lady in service was nice and helpful. Three fruit flies in red wine. Tap water filled into a bottle was billed at €5.50. (!) Turmeric in coleslaw and panko flour on dishes (spätzle and bread dumplings) are, at least for me, very inappropriate. The sauce for the beef goulash tasted predominantly of tomatoes. If it were advertised as a German-Indian restaurant, that would be appropriate, but not with "good home-style Swabian cuisine". The ambience is nice.

Food is good, the staff is friendly, the prices are a little higher, but still OK.

Hello everyone, Yesterday I had dinner at the Schuhbäck restaurant. I was able to easily reserve the table via Google. The restaurant was very easy to find and the service was very friendly. They gave us a great table by the window. For the meal there was a small salad cellar as a starter, which was really delicious and all the ingredients were very freshly prepared. Afterwards we ate an onion roast with hand-scraped spaetzle and Trollinger sauce and I have to say that the Trollinger sauce was really amazing and really tasty. At the end there were delicious apple fritters with vanilla ice cream, which were also beautifully prepared and tasted delicious. I can highly recommend this restaurant and of course we will come back.

We sat right next to the entrance door, when guests arrived the door was always open, we had to get up several times and close the door, my wife had her jacket on because it was uncomfortably cold. I had pork fillets that were totally tough, the sauce was totally bland and the sentences were far too little, all in all not recommended. The waiter seemed a bit annoyed, probably because he had to work on Christmas. All in all, we were not satisfied and cannot recommend the restaurant under the new management.

Food below average, the curry we ordered from the daily recommendation was even inedible (chicken tasted sour!!). Soup came lukewarm, but the beer wasn't cold. Nobody cared about our complaint and we were allowed to pay the full price. Never again!

We were here with a group of eight people, four of whom had restrictions. We got a nice seat even though it was pretty crowded. The service was friendly and flexible. My roast with Trollinger sauce and spaetzle was top notch, and the food from my neighbors at the table also looked very tasty and was, judging by the empty plates.

Very accommodating, friendly staff, the schnitzel was great, not too greasy and served hot. We felt completely comfortable. Good price-performance ratio. We are happy to recommend it.

Driver was nice, delivery time as stated. But Maultaschen were quite tasteless and the cheese spaetzle was drowned in cream. Not recommended if you want to eat typical Swabian food. The food wasn't worth the money.

We were personally looked after by the refreshingly friendly and committed boss as part of a birthday and although there was a lot going on, drinks, food, dessert, grappa etc. arrived on time. It also tasted great. Overall, a highly recommended location in Schwäbisch-Hall.

The butter chicken caused me diarhea. I would not visit again. Before, the Schubäck was an excellent traditional restaurant that offered very good dishes from the area. Not any more. The Schnitzel was deep fried. Never again!

Very good service, I have rarely seen anything like it! Unfortunately, I was given the wrong food when I ordered. After a call, this mistake was impressively corrected. Thanks for the delivery, the food was delicious as always.

Delicious Indian food, fast, friendly and very courteous service, despite the fact that we came on an evening of open-air plays without a reservation. Excellent!

So, we were at the restaurant on a Friday with a group of 13 people. In the restaurant, unfortunately. We had reserved weeks in advance and were hoping for a table outside, but we had to go to a warm place. There would have been room outside, but that wasn't possible, we were told. The restaurant was well attended and it has to be said that two waiters were quick and nice, the rest unfortunately not. Drinks were consumed quickly and arrived quickly, but the food took a really long time. We chose the restaurant specifically because, firstly, we were here years ago and it was great and secondly because we wanted to go straight to the stairs to the theater afterwards. The food came after 7pm! That really took forever and when I asked, all I got was "yes, it's coming in 10 minutes." A lady in our group then asked if we could please order drinks again. Then after 5 minutes someone came. A pity. The food was good and everyone enjoyed it and there was plenty of it. Then the paying, a disaster. We asked for the bill several times, but nothing happened. Yes, it said 5 more minutes and so on. Time was running out and so we went to the counter one after the other to pay. Very chaotic and you weren't asked which table and that then became a problem. So, the ambience is okay, outside would be nicer. The food was sufficient and tasty, but unfortunately the service was chaotic and very careless and everyone blamed it on the other. A really, really nice toilet.

- Wait 20 minutes before being served - too long • Food came after another 40 minutes - that was ok - said that we wanted to pay and waited forever until we could finally pay - Food fills you up, but unfortunately nothing more + fresh mushrooms in mushroom gravy, well seasoned palak paneer - good - too much rice compared to the palak paneer - Toilets ok, but who puts a carpet in front of urinals? + Hand cream and toothpicks are available in the toilet

The Schuhbäck restaurant in Schwäbisch Hall advertises that Goethe's Dr. Faust spent his last years here and often dined in the "Schuhbäck", as can be read on the facade. What you don't immediately notice from the outside: The traditional establishment was taken over by operators of Indian origin who are trying to combine Swabian cuisine with Indian and Italian influences. There is no clear line, but the concept is fundamentally feasible. The outdoor furniture was originally adapted to the sloping position of the surface, which is a positive thing. The tangled cables hanging on the facade, which could be better concealed, are less successful. The Indian food was OK but not outstanding. The lamb, served on a sizzling clay pan, looked good but was quite dry. The portions could be larger, especially considering the prices. Non-alcoholic drinks cost over 5 EUR for 0.4L, which is quite expensive.

From the outside you can't really tell that it's an Indian restaurant, so we were very surprised when the smell of curry hit us when we entered. The service is extremely friendly and the atmosphere is totally cozy. The Indian dishes as well as the typical German food were delicious! Of course it has been somewhat Germanized, as the curry is not as intense and not as spicy as I know it. Everything was super delicious! Definitely worth a visit 😍

From the outside it wasn't obvious that it was an Indian-German restaurant. Food mediocre. Portions small and expensive. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

If you are looking for a cozy restaurant with great service, this is the place for you. Those who like Indian food can eat Indian food and those who prefer German cuisine are also catered for. The service was attentive without being intrusive. I haven't felt so comfortable going out to eat in a long time.

We had different curries and they are all great. They are authentic Indian made. I’d come back if I have a chance to visit the town.

Einfach super (knorke). Rumpsteak und Sauerbraten kann ich empfehlen. Ein sehr gutes Essen. Service sehr aufmerksam. Hat alles gepasst.

Wir waren heute mit 10 Personen zum Essen dort. Wir waren alle sehr zufrieden. Das Essen, Indiesche und Deutsche Küche war sehr gut 👍 und reichlich. Auch der Service ist sehr freundlich. Der Schuhbäck ist sehr zu empfehlen.

Die Suppe war nicht der bringer, da haben mehr Augen reingeschaut, wie raus

Der Zwiebelrostbraten war geschmacklich wirklich sehr gut. Sehr kräftige Soße, ist man so gar nicht gewohnt und die roten Zwiebeln oben drauf waren sehr grob geschnitten und lecker. Auch die Spätzle haben gut dazugepasst, aber hätten gerne noch ein paar mehr sein dürfen. Der Service war leider nicht ganz so gut, man hat ganz schön warten dürfen, um etwas zu bestellen. Ambiente war auch schön, aber leicht ungepflegt. Die Kronleuchter waren von Spinnenweben eingedeckt, nicht sehr appetitlich. Aber alles in allem ein sehr nettes Restaurant.

Nice place. The food was okay. Expect around 30€ per person. We had meat but since it is Indian themed it has lots of Vegan options.

Essen war sehr lecker, wir sind richtig satt geworden. Nur Kleinigkeit - Cappuccino ist zu stark!

Hier hat alles gestimmt, Service, das Essen und das Ambiente. Ein bisschen in einer kleinen Gasse gelegen ohne viel Publikum außen rum. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und geschmeckt hat es auch.

Das Ambiente ist gut, der Service aufmerksam aber beim Essen ist man doch eher im Mittelmaß gelandet. Ungewöhnlich, dass die Karte indische und schwäbische Gerichte bietet. Das tut aber leider den schwäbischen nicht wirklich gut. Sie sind zwar okay, aber nicht mehr.

Ich hatte eine Linsensuppe und Spinatknödel mit Pilzrahmsoße. Beides war super lecker und gut abgeschmeckt. Von den Portionen wird man auf jeden Fall satt. Alle Servicekräfte waren sehr freundlich. Gerne wieder :)

Freundlicher Service. Das Essen ist leider durchgefallen. Geschnetzeltes mit leicht wässriger Soße. Kaum Geschmack, lediglich die Pfefferkörner taten hier etwas dazu, das Fleisch an der Grenze zu trocken. Käsespätzle leider einfach nur grieselig und auch geschmacklich kein Erlebnis. Waren so leider nicht essbar. Ob die Spätzle selbst gemacht sind bleibt fraglich, absolut nichts besonderes. Salatteller war einfach ein großer Beilagensalat mit Hüttenkäse, dieser war leider sehr krümelig/trocken und kaum essbar. Keinerlei Cremigkeit. Wurstsalat war in Ordnung sehr gute Blutwurst, ebenso die Bratkartoffeln, bei denen lediglich ein wenig Salz fehlte. Dies hat man allerdings am Tisch, auch wenn die kleine Mühle mit angetrockenten Essensresten bestückt war, was das Bild ein wenig getrübt hat. Für uns eventuell noch einmal ein Versuch mit einem indischen Essen, allerdings wurde die hohe Messlatte von früher mit den gewählten Gerichten leider deutlich unterschritten. Der Service ist nicht unfreundlich, wirkt eher schüchtern und zurückhaltend.

Es war ok, mehr nicht. Leider keine hausgemachten schwäbischen Gerichte (Spätzle aus der Tüte). Die laut Karte angebotenen regionalen Getränke scheint es auch nicht zu geben, die Schorle war jedenfalls definitiv keine Hohenloher. Schade, an sich ist das Konzept interessant, aber so funktioniert es zumindest für mich nicht.

Sehr gewöhnungsbedürftige Karte. Obwohl wir keine Fans von diesen Lieferdienst ähnlichen Zusammenstellungen sind, haben wir es versucht, aufgrund der guten Allgemeinbewertung. Der Campari-Mango, exotisch, aber gut. Das indische Essen wird mit einem sehr deutschen Salat serviert ( unter Anderem Kartoffelsalat), passt leider überhaupt nicht. Das indische Essen war okay. Das Deutsche leider durchgefallen. Geschnetzeltes (viel zu dicke Stücke, allerdings zart), in einer Päckchen-Pfeffersosse gepimpt.

Hervorragendes Essen und guter (bodenständiger) Service. Kein Schnickschnack und keine aufgesetzte Freundlichkeit, sondern Authentizität 😉 Der Zwiebelrostbraten ist sehr zu empfehlen! Wir waren mit einer großen Gruppe im Schubäck und wurden zugig bedient. Allen hat es gut geschmeckt! Sollte ich wieder nach Schwäbisch Hall kommen werde ich bestimmt wieder hier her zum Essen kommen!

Angeblich hat Goethes Dr. Faust seine letzten Jahre in Schwäbisch Hall verbracht und öfter im "Schuhbäck" gezecht. So steht's an der Fassade. Da muss man rein, klar. Innen geht's eher bieder zu als historisch. Man staunt beim Blick auf die Karte: indisch, schwäbisch und italienisch? Das kennt man vom Lieferdienst. Leider ist das Ergebnis ähnlich durchwachsen. Gute indische Vorspeise, gefolgt von schwachem Beilagensalat. Die Hauptspeise ist ein gewagtes Experiment: Maultaschen mit Basmatireis in einer Art Tikka Massala Soße. Kann man machen. Muss man? Nicht sicher. Die Weinkarte ist extrem dünn, nur offene Weine. Lemberger mit oder ohne Trollinger und ein italienischer Wein - ohne weitere Angaben. Das kennt man aus der Studentenkneipe. Auf Nachfrage erhalte ich auch eine Flasche Wein, die entpuppt sich auf der Rechnung als Überraschung. Das bestellte Wasser ohne Kohlensäure kommt mit. Der Service ist super freundlich, aber an einigen Stellen doch eher noch bemüht. Mein Rat wäre: wenn der Chefkoch aus Indien kommt, setzt konsequent auf indische Küche. 😉

Waren heute zum Essen im Schuhbäck. War wirklich sehr lecker, und sehr freundliche Bedienung. Kann man nur empfehlen.
