We ate here with the family. Really good food, we were very satisfied.

Absolutely recommended. The cheese spaetzle are simply divine—perfectly seasoned, creamy, and made with love. I'd also like to particularly highlight the salad dressing—a truly dream dressing that's so rare to find! The service is warm and attentive, and you immediately feel welcome. An all-around successful visit.

First of all, the restaurant deserves a special star for its continuous kitchen hours! Almost all other restaurants in the surrounding area close at 2:00 PM. Furthermore, we received very prompt and extremely friendly service. The food selection is down-to-earth but extensive. Our three meals were delicious and each had a very decent portion size. Conclusion: highly recommended!

We were at the Roter Ochsen again today with six people. As always, everything was great! Good, friendly service and excellent food!

For a self-service beer garden with a long line, no main course costs less than €20—sorry, a bit misguided for a family museum. So, I stuck with just one drink.

My Wiener Schnitzel had more breading than meat, and the breading wasn't great either. Combined with the fact that it's self-service, I think it's too expensive. Even though it was a real Wiener Schnitzel (veal schnitzel).

The roulades and roasts are really good. Stay away from the bratwurst (the children's portion); they serve old and spoiled Nuremberg bratwurst. The fries were really good, but the sausages were inedible...

It was always my favorite beer garden. The sausage salad was perfect! The family platter for four (€50) was also great! Both have been removed from the menu. They've replaced them with main courses priced between €19.80 and €29.80. We're still in a beer garden, but now a family of four with average incomes can almost only get fries. Such a shame!

The food isn't expensive, but ridiculously overpriced. A portion of Kässpätzle costs €21, making it the cheapest main course on the menu. Is that even possible? A normal-sized portion costs less than €2.50. This is unacceptable, especially for a beer garden. They're clearly trying to rip off their customers. I sincerely hope that museum visitors will learn from this and refrain from eating there until normal prices are offered. Other restaurants can do it for less than half the price, and with good quality.

The food felt like it was from yesterday, so it wasn't fresh anymore. The cheese spaetzle is way too expensive at €20 and tastes artificial, apart from the spaetzle, which tasted stale. The hunter's schnitzel was also a 3/10. The sauce was pretty much the only thing that tasted good. Here, too, the price of €25.90 is way too high. NOT A RECOMMENDATION!!!

For a beer garden, the prices are unrealistically high and unjustified because the food was not tasty and is truly a disgrace. The quality left a lot to be desired; it was not tasty at all. No food was under €20, which is unacceptable when you serve it yourself. No light meal like a salad or a small snack... Rouladen is fine as a Sunday meal in a restaurant, but not in a beer garden... Jägerschnitzel was a lightly breaded schnitzel with spaetzle, which who knows how many...

Great! Quick, good, and plentiful

The food is okay but certainly not outstanding. The staff there are polite, but it's self-service. The ambiance is nice, of course, BUT the prices are, in my opinion, outrageous. If you're already paying admission to the open-air museum and then want to stop there for lunch, you'll have to dig deeper into your pockets than you'd like. A good portion of cheese spaetzle for over €20, which doesn't taste particularly good, plus self-service, I find pretty cheeky! Considering that spaetzle with sauce for kids costs €5.80, and two portions of that are roughly equivalent to a portion of cheese spaetzle, I really wonder what it's for? For the oven, the cheese, and the fried onions? Schnitzel with fries for €28?! Please reduce the prices! Cheese spaetzle can cost €13/14, but surely not more than €20? I know... You don't have to eat there, and I won't in the future either. The restaurant and the food fit perfectly, and you'd love to eat there... but listing prices like that would ruin it very quickly! We were there on a long weekend in May 2025. Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture of the menu... but it should be updated when I see the menus here on Google. They're no longer suitable.

Excellent food, friendly staff, wonderful beer garden...highly recommended!!!

Since May 9th, 2025 I can only warn against ordering food there at 3:00 p.m. Although we were told on the first floor that there would also be outdoor service, no one came to take the order. We moved on hungry and angry.

We ordered 1 menu for 2 people. It was naturally served on two plates. No extra charge. That left a positive impression.

You can't really expect too much from such "places"/tourist attractions. BUT... The food quality was outstanding. Since we sat outside, it was self-service - with exceptionally friendly service (not in the least self-evident). Both our meat dish and the vegan dish were outstanding. We're glad we didn't just order a snack. Very nice garden atmosphere.

We were there for lunch (buffet) on Boxing Day with nine people. The buffet was set up in the hallway, through which the waiters also had to run back and forth. When the buffet was very busy, it got a bit chaotic. Unfortunately, the food was only lukewarm, and the ice-cold plates meant it got cold very quickly. We had to move our used plates to an uncovered table so we had room for our plates again for the second course. Green leaf salad, carrot salad, and coleslaw is a rather limited selection of salads for a buffet in my opinion. So we were all the more looking forward to dessert. Unfortunately, it was also a bit disappointing. All in all, this wasn't a meal for a festive occasion for us! The value for money here was not right at all. What a shame.

Old inn with delicious food. Regional dishes.

Wonderful, old-fashioned inn on the museum grounds. Very good selection on the menu. Everything tasted great. Large portions. Service and the operator were very nice. Absolute recommendation.

Had four children's meals here in between because our children were complaining. Some of the worst food I have ever eaten in a restaurant. And yes, it was sometime in the afternoon and not at "normal" meal times, but if you can't sell decent food, you can also admit that the kitchen is closed.

Absolutely unfriendly gentleman (probably it was the boss himself)!!!! Also not able to sit guests together at tables...probably doesn't want to make any money! And the kitchen closes at 8 p.m. even though there is a night event in the museum!

I have eaten here several times with my family - each time to complete satisfaction! The food, the service as well as the ambience and the service are excellent. We have already tried different dishes and desserts and are always thrilled! We'll definitely be back.

Today we had dinner with the family at the Rotes Ochsen, it was perfect and delicious, we can recommend it with a clear conscience.

Small selection for a lot of money

Delicious food, very good service and a special, rustic atmosphere. The Stohlmann family cooks really well and creates a great ambience for the guests. We also had catering, which was also of the best quality, clear recommendation!

We enjoy being regular guests at the Roter Ochsen and have also enjoyed the catering for events. We can only warmly recommend the Red Ochsen. The food is absolutely gigantic, you actually have to look for a long time for something comparable. The ambience is also unique, plus very good service. The Stohlmann family and the team do something very special there; as a guest in the museum or as a local resident, you should definitely take the Red Ox with you as a culinary highlight. I was there on Sunday August 25th, 2024 and I ordered Jägerschnitzel with spaetzle! Upon request, they were even available as a senior plate! There was still a lot of space in the beer garden, the disadvantage was self-service, but it was very quick! It tasted super good! If someone comes with children, they can let them play in the adjacent playground! The staff was very friendly and gave good advice!

I was there on Saturday for the class reunion. Prices are high for self-service and clearing. Had a schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce for a whopping €23.50. The meat was fried to death (dry) and the fries were so hard that all three of them fell onto the table with the first stab of my fork. They tasted like they had been warmed up three times. Never eat there again!!!! Nice beer garden, but with a little love you could do a lot more with it. All in all, the price-performance ratio is not right. OK for a drink, but definitely nothing more.

I have never eaten such a delicious roast with homemade spaetzle! Medium fried to perfection - the sauce is homemade, of course! The onions are slightly caramelized and overall a dream!!! Great value for money for this quality. Always happy 👍

The open-air museum is an interesting place

Never eaten such disgusting cheese spaetzle before. Self service only and very expensive.

Käsespätzle were terrible, we were in the beer garden with self-service and horrendous prices.

I'm in a school class at the open-air museum and go there every Wednesday. The price for a large portion of fries is €5.50 (I think it's too expensive). I would definitely be happy with a class discount for my school class.

Great old inn. I can't say anything about the food, the prices are a bit steep. A coffee should be enough and then a bratwurst from the Ständle.

Rip off! Simple food in mini portions at completely exorbitant prices. And that too with self-service. The only thing that scores points here is the beautiful ambience and the wonderful beer garden.

I have never eaten such carelessly wanked poop. Food is dry, it's probably been sitting around for days, if you want to eat well then please give this heap of misery a wide berth.

Food good, but nothing special. Price: 190% VAT was added. At least there is a salad with the dishes. That puts the prices into perspective somewhat.

The food was fantastic. But the dessert was the best. Service very friendly. Rounded off our visit to the museum.

Ge-(Schwindel) that's what they should call themselves. Keine Geschwister!! Perhaps the food here is good, but the attitude of employers to employees is debatable. Certainly it cannot be said that they treat employees from Eastern Europe honestly, and there are about 40% of their staff here - cooks, kitchen helpers, dishwashers. So the quality of the food depends on these people. The norm here is that the employee is hired on a "verbal contract", and after 2 days he is dismissed as "service". It is not honorable in such a civilized country as Germany. But here it is probably in "good tune".

Sonntag im Biergarten - unser eigenes Abenteuer in der Warteschlange! Nach über einer Stunde kam das Essen, aber der Beilagensalat fehlte, als wäre er im Zeugenschutzprogramm. Die Bedienung schickte uns zur Küche im 1. OG, wo wir den Koch überraschten. Er schien weniger begeistert, als hätten wir eine Überraschungsparty in seinem Reich geschmissen. Mutig holten wir den Salat und entkamen ohne Spuren zu hinterlassen. Ein Erlebnis für die Annalen, aber nächstes Mal nehmen wir lieber Seile mit!

wir waren gestern beim Backofenfest und sind beim Roten Ochsen sehr gut essen gewesen. Ich habe einen sehr guten Zwiebelrostbraten mit Spätzle bestellt, der Rostbraten war wirklich sehr gut. Der Service war sehr schnell und freundlich mit dazu. Ein großes Lob an das ganze Team, ich komme sehr gerne wieder. Diese Jahr waren wir wieder da, und es hat wie immer grandios geschmeckt. Danke an das Kochteam 👍🏿🙏🏾

Zum Essen kann ich nichts sagen, da wir nur das kühle Bier vom Fass verköstigt haben. Es war sehr erfrischend und süffig.

Waren am Sonntag 17.9.23 mit dem Fahrrad unterwegs.Biergarten ab. 11 Uhr geöffnet es war kurz nach 11auf die Frage ob man was zu tr haben kann bekommt ein Nein.

Schöne alte Gaststube, leider nicht Rollstuhl möglich da Treppen, für ältere Menschen mit Gehbehinderung eher schlecht. Aber ansonsten klasse, Biergarten ist auch einer da.

Wir sind hier am Samstag zufällig im Biergarten gelandet. Vom Essen waren mein Mann und ich restlos begeistert. Wir haben uns wohl für das Richtige entschieden, karamellisierter Ziegenkäse auf Gemüse und Rostbraten. Ein Gedicht! Bitte unbedingt genau so auf der Karte behalten!!!! Ansonsten Personalmangel wie überall, deshalb Selbstbedienung, was uns jetzt nicht gestört hat. Vielen Dank für die leckeren Gerichte!

Sehr authentischer Gastraum, eingerichtet wie vor hundert Jahren. Essen und Service waren ganz hervorragend. Das Rumpsteak und der Ziegenkäse ein Gedicht. Spätzle und Sauce hausgemacht. Das Gasthaus kann auch ohne Museumseintritt besucht werden. Absolut zu empfehlen.

Sind regelmäßig dort Essen. Schmeckt immer einwandfrei, der Service und alle vom Personal inklusive Chef sind in allen Situationen freundlich und zuvorkommend. Freundliche Hunde sind jederzeit herzlich willkommen und werden gut versorgt ♡:) Rundum kann man den roten Ochsen nur empfehlen!

Essen ist mengenmäßig durchaus o.k. Ich hatte Wildbratwurst, war ziemlich fade und der Kartoffelsalat kam mir vor wie aus dem Grosshandelseimer, Meine Frau hatte Kässpätzle, Menge o.k aber ein Minimum an Käse, unser Sohn hatte ein Schnitzel mit Pommes, daran war nichts auszusetzen, klar die Geschmäcker sind verschieden, aber bei der Preiskategorie erwarte ich echt mehr....zu dritt mit Getränken über 55 Euro ausgegeben und doch nicht ganz zufrieden...

Sehr schönes Restaurant mit historischem Ambierente, auch mit sehr schönem Außenbereich mit Möglichkeiten für die Kinder, sich zu beschäftigen. Leckeres Essen zu angemessenen Preisen und sehr freundliches Personal.

Es gab ein Event im Museum selbst, daher war der Zugang zum Gasthaus schwieriger als gewohnt. Essen kam reibungslos, aber da wir insgesamt 3 Bedienungen hatten gingen Bestellungen teilweise ins Leere. Der Burgunderbraten war unfassbar trocken. Die Soßen waren handwerklich gut, aber durch ein Gewürz nicht mein Geschmack

Essen war sehr gut und reichlich. Bedienung sehr freundlich.

Essen ist sehr gut, leider stimmt die Kommunikation zwischen Küche und Ausgabe nicht immer. Kommunikation ist das A&O.

Der Biergarten ist total schön zum Sitzen, das Essen war in Ordnung muss ich aber.nivht nochmal haben.
