A wonderful end to our time in Berlin, with hearty and delicious food (roast pork with a perfect dark beer sauce and Königsberger Klopse). Not a tourist trap, but a very welcoming and charmingly rustic restaurant. We'll definitely be back on our next visit to Berlin.

The food was truly excellent, worthy of its long-standing reputation. I visited Berlin on business and visited numerous restaurants over the course of a week. While I'd expected to find more restaurants serving Haxen, Haxen was by far the most delicious among those near the Kaiser Wilhelm Church. The duck dishes, currywurst, and goulash were average, so I highly recommend Haxen. I personally enjoyed it so much that I visited twice.

Not my thing. With a roast, I expect a crust. None. Lots of tourists, entire buses are probably brought here, hence the tense atmosphere. As I said, not my thing.

Authentic German food experience- tasty

I was looking for a German cuisine restaurant to have lunch with my mom today and decided to go to Schildkröte. We ordered Brastwürstchen with a side of Grillgemüseè (grilled vegetables) and Berliner Schinken Knacker. The grilled vegetables added even more flavor to the mashed potatoes and the sausages, same with the sauerkraut and the potatoes and the sauce. Really happy with the orders. The staff was also very friendly. We were there around 2-3pm and it wasnt too busy. It was nice to sit, eat and talk. If u just got to Berlin and want to try some German food, this is a good place. Highly recommended.

Fantastic, wholesome German food, great local beers

It's one of the few authentic German restaurants left, with its wood decor and deep red stained glass windows, beautifully preserving its old-school atmosphere. If you're Turkish, there's Selver Bey, who can easily communicate and explain the dishes to you, eliminating the need to decipher the German menu. He'll even tell you what meat you prefer, such as beef and pork, but you won't have to worry about it. Everyone is so cheerful and chatty. Even Cem Yılmaz visited on tour. As a Turk, we highly recommend it.

This place offers authentic German cuisine and is an awesome old world place to enjoy it. The schnitzel and crispy pork knuckle were delicious! Pork slices were moist and tender. Highly recommend this long standing establishment.

The potatoes are so chewy. The land, sea, and air are going crazy. Eat the duck and Schweinshaxe, two or three times. The portions are huge, so you'll be full, but!!!! I went here on a recommendation, and if I hadn't gone, I'd be in tears. Turtle House!! Please remember... Oh! By the way, the inside corners are incredibly hot. There must be a reason everyone wants to sit outside!

We happened to be at the Schildkröte today, after reading their review... We had the currywurst with fries and the bratwurst with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. Well, what can I say about the food? It was tasty, but it didn't blow you away... The Schildkröte's ambiance was quaintly Berlin. However, due to the weather (32°C), we preferred to sit in the seats outside the restaurant. Overall, the ambiance was absolutely fine, but it did have some highlights... I do have one highlight, though, because the restrooms have obviously been recently renovated and are definitely worth a visit during your stay. The service was nice and friendly. There's not much more to say. We might come back again if there really was nothing else to do... I know that the author always writes about the review in a one-sided way and is influenced accordingly, but I tried to describe the "turtle" quite openly here.

This Restaurant with authentic German food, is without doubt the best I have visited. The Pork Knuckle is the best I have ever had. The staff are welcoming and attentive and work very hard. The place was really busy, but they never had any problem keeping up with the orders. Give this place a try I promise you won't be dissapointed

Very impatient and rude waiter, however the atmosphere is very cozy even if this impression was unfortunately spoiled by the hasty and unfriendly behavior of the waiter!

Really nice German restaurant... Friendly staff, ready to explain menu and drinks. Portions are more than enough, and food is really tasty. I enjoyed the Schildkrötenteller with a good beer.

Visit 1: I had the crispy pork knuckle and dark beer. It was a huge portion which we didn’t finish, but it was delicious, and according to my companion, it was quite authentic. We did not have a reservation for dinner so they sat us in the back at a table that was connected to another table where two people were already dining. There was only about 6 inches of space in the back of both of our adjoining tables for the couple that had been Sitting when we arrived to squeeze through and use the restroom or depart obviously, this is not ideal and is my only complaint about the restaurant. We received a typical German greeting, which wasn’t friendly, despite my German speaking companion. However, our waiter was attentive (for this I gave the restaurant five stars). Note, the restaurant does NOT serve tapwater because according to the waiter, the pipes are old. ⭐️Bring your own water or you’ll have to buy a bottle. Visit 2: I had the Königsberger Klopse (meatballs). Will update soon!

The haksen is incredibly delicious! The menu is written in English, so it's easy to understand and explains popular dishes. The portions are generous!

Found this place through Google while searching for an authentic German restaurant around Kurfürstendamm area, as we were in the area for some window shopping. The restaurant has a charming, old-school bar feel, with lots of celebrity autographs on display. The decor really made us feel like we were transported to another world. Service was prompt, especially since we arrived before the crowd started to come in. The food was interesting and quite satisfying. We chose a set meal for my wife, which came with the chef’s soup or salad. There were 5–6 main course options, and she went with the schnitzel with potatoes and mushrooms. For dessert, we had the apple strudel. I chose the Schildkrötenteller, which was a mixed platter of sausages, pork knuckle slices, sauerkraut, and potatoes. It was delicious—though my wife felt it could have used a bit less salt. The apple strudel was nicely done, filled with apples and served with cream. Overall, a great experience with tasty food at an affordable price—around €10 to €20 per person. Looking forward to trying the full pork knuckle next time!

A really nice place for local dishes from Berlin! The portions were huge and tasty. I had the Knuspriche Schweinhaxe and it was delicious!

I ordered a Schweinehaxe meal with sauerkraut and kartoffel. It was too big for me so I had to take some home, but the combination with the sauerkraut was delicious! The staff are a bit on the quiet/serious side than cheery. They do serve great pilsner as well!

Pure tradition. This small, quaint restaurant near the Ku'damm serves mainly typical home-style cooking and Berlin dishes. The portions are generous. The fried potatoes are top-notch. Pan-fried, well-seasoned, crispy but not greasy. We ate there twice in a row, and all the dishes were excellent. The waitress had a typical Berlin attitude but wasn't unfriendly. We'd be happy to return and highly recommend the Schildkröte.

Great unpretentious German food, plain but good sized portions, and great ingredients. Interior of the pub is brilliantly old school (has been there since 1936) and feels a real slice of old Berlin.

Really enjoyed this place, especially the schweinshaxe & the soups. Only one dark beer, but it is very good, and a Berlin Luft to finish. If you eat dessert, the milchreis is also very good.

Overall excellent. Ordered a three-course dinner menu. The main course (Knusprige Schweinehaxe an Schwarzbiersoße) is a must try for tourists. The skin was crispy and meat tender. The addition of sauerkraut creates a balance of flavors. The staffs were friendly and helpful. My requests were answered very quickly.

The food was okay, the atmosphere was okay, and the staff was friendly and quite attentive. Nothing outstanding, but worth a visit if you're hungry and thirsty, provided you're in the area.

Such incredible food we wound up going back the next day for more. The eisbein is truly delicious, as is the duck, the knödel, the red kraut, the schnitzel— and most likely everything else we didn’t have enough stomach space to try! The staff are also incredibly friendly and the restaurant is very cute. Highly recommend!!!

It looks very unassuming from the outside, but as you walk in, you're immediately greeted by the aroma of good, home-style cooking. Pleasant atmosphere and good food.

We had basically 7 dishes and everything was delicious. The roasted knee, apparently a local specialty, was literally great, the roasted crispy skin...just be careful to order the right one, they also have boiled ones, but this roasted one is on another level. Good beer, pleasant service

Stopped by for a meal and tried the boiled pork knuckle, which was good, and the roast pork, which was also quite decent. The dishes were well-cooked and served in generous portions. Nothing particularly outstanding, but a solid option if you’re looking for classic German fare.

The restaurant is beautifully located near Uhlandstraße. There's a nice outdoor seating area. The service, however, is a bit slow. The food is rather disappointing. The chicken soup starter was too salty and lacked any chicken pieces. The main course was currywurst—well, the sausage itself wasn't a real currywurst, the sauce was bland, and the fries were too salty. The schnitzel my neighbor at the table had was a bit tough. It could have been better. Overall, unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it. There are other ways to enjoy good German cuisine.

A small, quaint, old Berlin restaurant. I haven't had such good boiled potatoes in a long time; the food was still steaming when it was served. Old Berlin cuisine, such as pork knuckle, meatballs, or bratwurst. You can also order a schnitzel or a salad, for example. We did have to wait a moment for our beer, even though we were sitting across from the bar, but the service was always extremely attentive and always had a casual joke on their lips. It was in a slight Berlin dialect, but always very friendly. If you're looking for a great Berlin restaurant, you should go there. I'll definitely be back.

If you want to be genuinely insulted because you didn't finish your plate, this is the place for you! Cheeky, friendly landlady and waitress who know who you are and when you were last there by the second time. Wonderful collection of photos and Zille drawings. Autographs from prominent guests from the past 70 years. Oh, and by the way: the food was delicious, but I can only manage half portions ;)

The Turtle Restaurant is an original Berlin restaurant. The map is very good but not overloaded. What's great is that you can combine dishes here to create a 3-course menu. We were very enthusiastic about the food. The employees were also very nice and very attentive. We can only recommend the restaurant!

The food itself was fine, but the service was disappointing. The waiter was cold and unwelcoming, and the Apfelstrudel was overpriced for what it was.

The only thing worth it was the beer which was from Prague Beef schnitzel, the worst I've ever eaten and they even charged 30 euros for it And the rest of the dishes indifferent.. And the worst thing was that we also ran into a Greek waiter who worked for us normally saying that the food was the best there is in Berlin .. instead of sending us somewhere else to eat .. and even accused others of allegedly making fun of the people

I didn't like the presentation of the plates. The knife was in the knuckle. The Berlin liver was not a highlight in terms of taste. All I had was an apple ring and very few limp onions. The mashed potatoes were poorly seasoned. The air in the back room was extremely bad and very warm.

We went there for dinner in 2017 and it was really great back then. Unfortunately we have to say that it wasn't good this time. My wife had the crusty roast, my junior had the schnitzel and I had the meatballs. The meatballs were good, the other two dishes were really not good quality. Unfortunately, the service didn't have the best day either (annoyed and stressed). The ambience is still very nice.

Good German cuisine, tastes good and is good value for money. The layout of the restaurant is a bit unusual, but quite well done. Gladly again!
