Schaumburger Hof in Bonn

Website quote: (...) we offer an attractive selection of cakes (...). Whether for a light snack or a full meal, during your lunch break or for dinner – come and visit us (...). Reality: We arrived as a group of about 12 people in the early afternoon (2 pm). Since the organizer hadn't received a reply to her email inquiry, she reserved a table for coffee and cake by phone. Upon arrival, we were greeted with an unfriendly welcome and the owner/manager's barely concealed displeasure that we wanted to order and pay individually. There was a long wait before our order was taken (1-2 drinks per person plus cake/dessert, the "attractive selection of cakes" consisting of the uninspired choices of cherry crumble or plum crumble). A few minutes later, the owner appeared and snapped at the organizer in the most rude manner, stating that it was a restaurant and that we had ordered "food and drinks" – as stated in the email, which, according to the phone conversation, hadn't even been processed. During the phone call, we had reserved coffee and cake. Apparently, several guests had been turned away – we saw empty tables as we left – and they weren't even a coffee house. It seems the owner isn't familiar with his own website. Since we were treated so blatantly rudely, we gladly accepted the more or less explicit request to leave the Schaumburger Hof (in one sentence they said we could stay, in the next they said we could go). I will certainly never go there again – according to various other reviews, we didn't miss anything with the food, and there are several other lovely restaurants in Bonn where we received very friendly service in our group.

I would have loved to leave a review. But apparently, the restaurant doesn't need any customers. I tried to make a reservation by phone: answering machine. Please send an email. I did. NO REPLY. A few days later: still NO REPLY. Okay, I'll send another email. NO REPLY. Maybe they closed because they're rich? Whatever, I'll just go somewhere else. Thanks for nothing, Schaumburger Hof! PS: One star is still too much… PSS: You can easily make a reservation online at Bastei!

Food was amazing and a great view of the river.

Whenever we're nearby, we like to eat here. Great terrace right on the Rhine, excellent food 😋. The restaurant also has a very nice atmosphere.

Super super staff, location top breathtaking and menu varied

We celebrated a family celebration with 16 people at the Schaumburger Hof. The ambiance, with its historic building, the beer garden under linden trees, and the location directly on the banks of the Rhine opposite Petersberg Hill, creates a very harmonious and romantic atmosphere. Everything is very well-maintained, the service is very friendly and attentive, and the food is varied and deliciously prepared. For us, it's one of the best restaurants in Bonn for special occasions, but also always a worthwhile destination for a day trip or a cozy get-together.

We went there for a family meal, as we do every year. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has steadily declined over the past few years. The salmon was dry, the spinach quiche was completely oversalted, and the falafel bowl was dry and had very little sauce. We had to order drinks without a menu. The service was friendly and good. The prices are simply too high for supermarket quality.

Delicious food, excellent service and an exceptional ambience directly on the Rhine

After the funeral, we went to the Schaumburger Hof with a large group of guests. The atmosphere was super nice; we were able to sit in the beer garden right on the Rhine, where the table was already set. We had discussed fresh tomato soup with coconut milk, cold cuts, fresh mixed rolls, and to finish with apple crumble, butter cake, and cherry crumble. However, we still had to clarify this with the bakery. Unfortunately, we didn't get fresh tomato soup with coconut milk, but rather instant soup with a little tomato juice, without coconut milk, and sandwiches with the cheese and sausage already sweating. I can say that there were plenty of toppings on the rolls. Unfortunately, there were no cold cuts, so everyone could have added their own toppings. The cake was from a large bakery and ice-cold from the refrigerator. The service was super friendly and really made a lot of effort. High praise, with so many people, they always worked quickly; we didn't have to wait long. The initial consultation sounded great, but unfortunately it was a flop. Conclusion: Very good for the staff and food, satisfactory minus, poor for the execution of the initial consultation. He promised a lot but delivered little; at least he deducted 10% from the bill as an apology. A very great location, but, in everything else, there's plenty of room for improvement.

The ambiance is excellent, with a view of the Rhine and traditional decor. A lovely beer garden right in front of the restaurant on the Rhine side. But... the dishes were like serving ready-made meals from the refrigerated section. Mashed potatoes that had already formed a film, applesauce that looked very brown and was barely recognizable as such, the sauerbraten sauce more like jelly, dumplings that were probably from a packet, boiled potatoes that were hard and seemed reheated... it wasn't very appetizing. On top of that, the service mixed up the orders... The price-performance ratio is disastrous. If you value fresh food... probably not.

A very nice country hotel located directly on the Rhine with a lovely beer garden. Excellent food and drink selection. Reasonably priced considering the quality and portion size. Very friendly and attentive staff.

Overall, a really solid restaurant with a lovely beer garden, delicious food, and a great view, right on the Rhine. Unfortunately, I found the portions a bit small and the prices on the higher end.

Nice Location by River Rhone with perfect views of "Siebengebirge". Definetely worth a visit during summer time combined with a walk along the river. (My review is about the "Biergarten" I have not been to the restaurant. )

It's a nice little beer garden. The service was okay. But as it got busier, they seemed a bit overwhelmed. The food wasn't that good. The herring was extremely salty, lukewarm (which I find particularly alarming in summer), and had a strong fishy taste. I didn't want to risk an upset stomach, so I left it on my plate. The fried potatoes and salad were delicious. My husband's fries were also way too salty. After we told the waiter, the only response was: "Herring is always salty..." Well, we disagree. We won't be going back to this place.

Cozy outdoor terrace, friendly service and a beautiful, stylish house.

The location is great; the beer garden is beautiful, especially in summer. But that's about it. The service is attentive, but mostly incompetent. What's really not good is the food, or rather the value for money. You get primarily poor-quality convenience food. Even the salad seems like it came from a bag, dry and poor quality. Everything has "chip shop" quality, but you get decent restaurant prices. It's a shame, such a beautiful location.

Great location right on the Rhein. The Schnitzel is the most popular dish but there's something for everyone on the list. We were there in summer so naturally sitting outside is ideal. Highly recommended 👌🏽

We've always been very satisfied when we've eaten here. Unfortunately, today we had to wait 1.5 hours (yes, no joke, 1.5 hours) for our food to arrive. Instead of telling us directly that they weren't able to provide service at the moment (for whatever reason), they kept telling us in short intervals that it would be right away. Of course, no apology or compensation. Unfortunately, it's outrageous.

I only know the beer garden, not the interior of the half-timbered house. It was relatively large and attractive, with a view of the Rhine. There were about a dozen parking spaces on the other side. The service was charming, sometimes a bit slow. The herring with fried potatoes for €18 was decent. A wheat beer costs €6.50.

We were there with a larger group and sat in the beer garden. The service was okay, and the food came relatively quickly, although sometimes the servers themselves didn't even know what they were bringing. The food itself was delicious, but the portions were mostly rather small and therefore a bit overpriced.

Top-quality food, great wine, great views and a wonderful beer garden

Auf der Terrasse über dem Rhein mit Blick aufs Siebengebirge ist schön sitzen. Bedienung und Service freundlich und schnell. Allerdings das Essen da ist eine arge Enttäuschung, angewärmte sogenannte Bratwurst, vertrocknete Spinat Quiche, nee, das geht nicht. Das Roastbeef mit Bratkartoffeln war ok, runde 25 € für die übersichtliche Portion dafür happig. Preis-Leistung also auf der schlechten Seite, außer man legt Wert auf Blick und schöne Lage.

Beautiful beer garden located directly on the Rhine. We were lucky enough to get a spot overlooking the Rhine. Delicious currywurst and good drinks. The price is a bit steep, but worth it for the view and the location! We've already eaten there in the evening. Highly recommended!

We are regular guests at the Schaumburger Hof and have never been disappointed

The asparagus is not recommended there. Six of us ate outside. The ambiance right on the Rhine is really nice. I ordered asparagus. The menu stated that they served 300g of asparagus. I got five thin stalks of asparagus that definitely didn't weigh 300g, and two whole potatoes. For €22, that's a disgrace. On top of that, the asparagus wasn't cooked all the way through. It's a real shame; I wouldn't go there again for more than a drink.

The waiter didn't suggest a table. I was alone; he was waiting for more people. I wasn't allowed to sit at the larger table, so to speak, even though there were tables for eight people where there were only two people.

Best location right on the Rhine, in the beer garden when the weather is nice. The service was a bit overwhelmed (closed company and restaurant with 3 waiters). Schnitzel was tasty and the portion was large, but the side salad and the salad on the plate were a bit dry.

We took a hiking break here. Ordered two delicious tarte flambées. Had a delicious beer with it. The waiter was very friendly and informative.

I come to this historic inn about once a year. Today, when the weather is nice, I order a Pinot Gris (0.15l for €6.50) and a burrata with tomatoes and beetroot for €16! What came was the wine and a small plate with half a ball of burrata, about 5 halved cherry tomatoes, tiny pieces of beetroot, dressing (tastes good) and a very clear bread basket with about 6-7 tiny slices of bread (size: thumb and index finger shaped into a ring). The service, which is not very present (3 people, approx. 12 guests), cannot cope with the prices charged (dialogue at the next table when bringing the order to the guests: “I managed to get a cod out of your ribs!”). It's always a shame that such attractive settings are handled so engagingly!

We always enjoy going here. It takes a bit of time to get the food on the terrace, but everything else is fine.

Tolle Lage direkt am Rhein und extrem nette Bedienung, wir haben Kaffee getrunken und ein sehr leckeres weihnachtliches Tiramisu gegessen. Absolut empfehlenswert.

The location of the Schaumburger Hof is very good. Directly on the Rhine with a view of the Siebengebirge. Outside you sit under large trees. However, it can get a bit windy. The food is not good in terms of price/performance. The dumplings advertised were out of the package. The mushroom sauce was rather watery. 20€+ for that is absolutely not justified. It was similar for me with the cheese spaetzle. They were just slightly cheaper. You eat expensively, not necessarily of high quality, but in a good location. Anyone who thinks the price is worth it will be happy at the Schaumburger Hof. The staff usually seems overwhelmed. Unfortunately, long waiting times support the impression. It's nice that young people seem to be doing their internships or training there. But that doesn't shorten the waiting time and the staff often seem helpless. It seems like an average level. Too bad.

Beautiful location. You sit directly on the Rhine in a great, cozy atmosphere. Despite the large number of guests, some of whom were queuing up to wait for free seats, the service was well organized and consistently friendly and we were regularly asked whether we needed anything else and whether everything was OK. The food tasted great and the portions were good. The price is high, I think you pay for the location and view, but for us it was a nice, delicious evening that made us feel good.

Despite the unchanged beautiful location, for which the current operator is not responsible, it is no longer a place to stay. You have to expect increased prices everywhere these days, but the quality and service is now subpar:( The unqualified staff is very inattentive and the food, which is actually not very difficult with currywurst and tarte flambée, is anything but tasty. It's a shame, it was different, which the current reviews also confirm.

Service was non-existent. We must have waited 10 minutes or more for a menu, even though they knew we were there because we had announced our arrival in advance. When still no one came, I went in and asked if you had to take the tickets yourself. The only answer that came was that the colleague would be coming soon and we should wait a moment. I was given a card anyway. When we looked at these, we noticed that the prices were outrageously expensive. 19€ for a salad??? Over €20 for schnitzel? 14€ for a currywurst... After another long wait, 2 boys with aprons came. Both went to a table that was there after us and asked the guests what they could do for them. They asked for a card. The boys' answer: "We'll have to ask about that." ..??? Nobody came to us. The woman who gave me the card came out at some point and picked up a table that had come after us and the other, newer table near us. We then left because we were afraid that the food would take longer and with the prices you at least want to be served reasonably. I work in the catering industry in the service area and making guests wait so long for a menu is an absolute no-go. Above all, there wasn't much going on, because then I would have understood the waiting times, but like that? Sorry, but I won't go there again, even if the view is nice. There is a nice chip shop near the passenger ferry. Good prices, equally beautiful views and nice staff.

Actually a very nice place. But it's better not to go if you have food allergies. Despite her declared lactose intolerance, my friend had a cream sauce put on her plate. We noticed it too late, the result was accordingly. Insight from the restaurant is zero.

We were there after a funeral. The room was very attractively prepared, the food was very good, starting with a tomato soup, followed by quiches and finally warm cake. Everything in attractive small sizes and tailored to the number of people at the table. Very friendly service that was very attentive.

Pretty Riverside location is the best thing it has going for it. Meals were very slow to arrive with long delays between different members if our group getting their meal. Also took 15mins+ between ordering a drink and it arriving. Such slow service spoilt what should have been a lovely evening.

Unfortunately we didn't like it. The Käsespätzle taste more like cream than cheese. They're probably not homemade either. The stewed onions that are on the menu weren't there either. It seems that way, so you would rather relax in the beautiful location and save on the food. But the prices are too expensive for that. We also found €8.50 for a bottle of water to be relatively high. Our waiter was very nice.

Unfortunately very expensive, we waited almost 2 hours for the food, the food was lukewarm at most, the fries were still raw inside, the service was totally overwhelmed. Very unfortunate. That was completely different.

Had an alcohol-free Weizen and a soup of the day here this afternoon. Nice terrace, excellent service, but I had just paid and on the way to my bike I vomited the entire dish again. Cause? No idea. Fortunately, 6 km further to my campsite Drachenfels Blick. Luckily I'm doing better again.

The salad costs €12 without chicken strips and €19 with it. That's 4 dry chicken, it's not worth it. There was also so much Parmesan in the salad that the salad was quite dry. The quality of food among my friends was similar.

+++ View top, service flop+++ You don't even need any training to say "Hello" as a greeting. Drinks are simply slammed on the table without greeting. There is chaos, long waiting times. Inside, three employees are overwhelmed at the bar, outside you have to wait to sit at a free table. Individual courses are forgotten, drinks take forever. The bill came surprisingly quickly. Once and never again. The view is very pleasant, the food is acceptable, but definitely nothing special. I was there twice... It's still just a beer garden.

Rustic and pleasant atmosphere. Food is also appealing and reasonably priced. Only a few parking spaces on site. Not far from the cemetery on the Rhine, where several parking spaces are available.

The location right on the Rhine is really fantastic. The food is okay, but the prices are quite high. There were 6 people in the beer garden. Unfortunately the service was very poor even though it wasn't busy. We sometimes had to wait 20 minutes for drinks, one meal came about 30 minutes later than the other dishes and in the end we were charged twice for two drinks. Luckily we were able to correct that.

Beautiful Gasthaus with views to the Rhein river. We had dinner there, the food was very good (I ate the semmelknödel which where excellent) and the staff was kind and efficient. I would definitely go there again. As they would say in German: 1A.

We have recently had dinner here. The food was served in time, some meals could have been a bit bigger (Liver with mashed potatoes) whereas for example the salmon was excellent in quality and quantity. But: after ordering dessert, it took almost an hour and several requests until we got what we've ordered, and still the coffee was missing. When asking for the bill, the total amount was named and also "if we want to pay the exact amount or round up". Considering the poor service, this behavour is unacceptable. Next time there's other nice restaurants around the Rhine.
