Schaumberg Alm in Tholey

Very cozy in a great location on Schaumberg. The food was inexpensive and delicious. The service was very friendly.

Beautiful alpine hut, friendly service, delicious, hearty food, and a fittingly rustic atmosphere. All in all, the concert was superbly executed. The outdoor area is spacious, with a playground and adjacent beer garden. Perfect for parents and children. Ample, free parking just below the hut.

I was pleasantly surprised by the food. The portions were larger than expected and tasted good.

A very beautiful mountain with a tower at the top that offers a beautiful view. It only costs €1. The Schaumbergalm hut right next door offers good, plentiful food and drinks. Although a bit dated, it's still very beautiful up here.

Yes, I can recommend it. The restaurant is very good value for money. Very friendly.

For the first and last time. We waited an hour, but the appetizers were forgotten. They didn't clear away empty glasses or ask for new drinks. The main course was lukewarm, the dumpling was overcooked, the sauce was so-so, and the sauerkraut tasted very sweet. It's a shame, actually, it's a lovely location and the staff is friendly.

Even though the store was busy, everything went smoothly. Ordering, drinks, food, payment. The food was of the usual very good quality.

The food was good. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was like being on vacation.

The food is rather carelessly presented and of okay quality, but you can tell it's a large kitchen and that many convenience products are used. There's little homemade food here. The ambiance takes some getting used to (they try to imitate an alpine pasture, but it has little to do with a real hut). The prices are too high for the overall package. A shame.

The Schaumberg Alm is highly recommended. Its cozy atmosphere and excellent food are truly deserved. It earns five stars.

Very good as you imagine an alpine pasture

We're always happy to come back! We were there yesterday with a dear friend and our children, too. The staff are super friendly, the selection of dishes is good and plentiful, and the portions are large for—from today's perspective—reasonable prices. The beer garden alone, with its shady playground, has been luring us here for years, but the conceptually coherent yet surprisingly designed interior is absolutely worth seeing. It feels very good, like you're on a little vacation on the Schaumberg with its alpine pasture. Our son loves the delicious child-sized schnitzel, and the "real" fries are always a hit. Keep it up!

Unfortunately, some dishes were unavailable because the menu was being revised. The service was reservedly friendly and inflexible when it came to criticism (the guest had to prove that the spritzer contained carbonation by stirring it with a straw, which the child refused to drink). Overall, the atmosphere at the Alm was cozy, if not...

Very nice ambience and great service and food

A great place with a viewing tower offering beautiful views of Sarland. You can walk along the gentle slopes and enjoy a meal and a drink at the foot of the tower. The staff is very friendly and helpful, despite their limited language skills. They seem to be reading your mind. What's more, they always have a smile on their faces. I recommend it.

A truly lovely restaurant high up on the Schaumberg! The food was delicious, and the alpine hut has Bavarian charm. I really liked it.

My order for a salad and a pork schnitzel plus two drinks, totaling €40, arrived relatively quickly after 10 minutes. Considering the food was obviously freshly prepared, I can't fathom how the fries could taste cold and dripping with grease. The schnitzel was very undercooked and required a lot of gum removal. The real kicker, however, was the sauce they chose for an extra €3.50, which was a ready-made sauce from a bucket. Such a bottomless nerve to slap a flavored lump of thickener on my schnitzel, and then for €3.50 extra. At this point, I'm lost for words. I forced myself to eat the schnitzel and left the fries alone. I will never visit this place again and will instead find someone who won't bombard me with chemicals for that price. The ambiance is beautiful, but the Alm can't be blamed for that, as the mountain itself is beautiful.

We visited twice during our stay. Once in the wonderful beer garden (self-service), and once in the cozy alpine hut. Delicious food, great atmosphere. The climb is short on foot (1.3 km) but steep (120 m), so the food is well deserved. :-)

I come here very often and I'm always impressed. I'm also inviting my whole family here for my birthday. The staff is so friendly, the food is very good, and the prices are reasonable. My dog is allowed inside, too. I'm looking forward to my next visit. Highly recommended. Afterwards, you can go for a lovely walk; there's a large playground. Lots of beautiful paths. ...

It's a busy place with a correspondingly long wait, but the staff is extremely friendly, the food is quite satisfying, the drinks are at a reasonable temperature, and the value is reasonable. I'd happily return occasionally, especially since the view over half of Saarland is truly magnificent.

Had chicken wings, never as bad as here. My companion had schnitzel with pepper sauce, tasteless... Substandard food. Chain restaurant... Never again.

Not anymore. Unfortunately, the parking spaces for motorcyclists at the top were removed and relocated lower down. We bikers probably won't be able to get here anymore. No one trudges up the hill in full gear. Whoever thought of that obviously doesn't like motorcyclists or doesn't drive themselves. It's a shame, we'll be staying away from there.

Update 2025: The motorcycle parking lot has been completely closed and relocated downhill. Therefore, we will no longer be visiting Schaumberg almost weekly as we used to, because walking up the mountain in motorcycle gear and leaving the bikes unattended at the bottom is out of the question. We'll just drive to Petersalm, where motorcyclists are still welcome. Sad. ---- We always enjoy spending time on our motorcycles at the alpine pasture in the summer, sitting comfortably in the beer garden and eating something. There's actually a special motorcycle parking area there, but it's currently closed due to construction work. It's convenient self-service outside, the menu offers a great selection (also for vegetarians), and the food is consistently delicious, the salads super fresh, and everything is prepared without long waits. Highly recommended!

Since the motorcycle parking spaces up on the plateau have been closed at the express request of the Schaumbergalm tenant, as quoted by the mayor, we will visit other beautiful spots with our motorcycle friends. Thank you for the kind gesture.

Always nice...good food...I'd love to come back

A fantastic view combined with great food! There's also a children's menu for the kids, and there's a playground on the restaurant grounds. Plenty of beer is available for the adults, too. I ordered a boiled beef main course and the nougat dumplings for dessert. A few minutes after ordering, it was ready. The boiled beef was very tender, the fried potatoes on the side were typical Saarland fare, and the portion size was reasonable for the price. - Definitely recommended. The nougat dumplings are also great. Three hot dumplings filled with nougat cream (unfortunately, Nutella, not homemade) with a scoop of ice cream on the side. The hot/cold contrast isn't for everyone, but it's worth trying! Seats can also be reserved quickly and easily via the Alm's website.

We visited the Schaumberg Alm in January with friends from Indonesia – and it was a complete success! The ambiance is very cozy and inviting, typically Alpine and designed with great attention to detail. The service was attentive and warm, making us feel completely at home. The food also impressed us: regional, fresh, and delicious. A great place to show guests from abroad a taste of German hospitality.

It's a great place to sit. Access by car is easy, with parking just below the hut. The rest of the way is on foot, up the hill. You can ride all the way up by motorbike, although one vendor (left) complains about the motorbikes not being in the way. However, they are already regulars. The food and drink are good, and the prices are fair. There's no table service; everything must be picked up from the hut itself.

A great place to stop with kids. The food is excellent. Great value for money. The view, especially when you sit back under the shade of the trees, is fantastic. We tried different dishes over several days. All were delicious, from simple to elaborate.

Good day to all 🙋🏻‍♂️ I have been to dinner for the second time with 8 people, we sat down at the table and wanted to eat and drink, he gave us menu cards to order the food and then told us we could order drinks until we looked at the menu card, then everything was fine, got the drinks after 7/8 minutes, and then we wanted to order food, then he told us that the kitchen had closed, why didn't he say so straight away 😑 and I don't know how long it will take, 🤬 if the customers can't get any food, we have to inform them beforehand and then we won't get any drinks 😶👈🏻 it's just a money-making scheme, a rip-off and this is the second time already, I'm sorry but we will never be going there again, thank you very much, and the others have to do exactly the same until they get the place under control 😡

Very nice view over the entire Saarland region. The food was good, but too expensive, and the wait times were very long. Despite the pager not working.

We always enjoy being there. Always very satisfied. Just one idea for the playground - it would be great if the few meters by the forest could be fenced off so that the kids don't run down the slope into the forest and fall on the slope. Otherwise, everything is great.

A very beautiful, rustic alpine hut with a mountain hut atmosphere. The food was served quickly, the portions were very generous, and the food was truly delicious. Just the right refreshment after a hike.

We were there today...great! The staff was super friendly and efficient. All the young ladies always asked if everything was okay and were courteous. Everything was clean and well-maintained. The food was very good, and the salad was also delicious. The prices were also good and reasonable. We'll definitely be back.

Fast service, expensive, hardly any vegetarian options

Today, Mother's Day, it was very well attended at 1 p.m. when we arrived. The staff both in the kitchen and in the service were constantly busy and yet after a good 30 minutes we received our meal. Everyone was extremely friendly, despite the stress! The food was plentiful and very tasty 😋 very nice atmosphere, we will be back. Note: So many people would like to climb the tower, but there was a lack of 1 euro/50 cent coins. A solution should be found here. You can now also pay with card at egg vending machines, it should be possible here too.

We are really very disappointed. We both had a salad with a side dish. Far too little sauce on the salad, burnt chicken and my fried potatoes were swimming in fat. Also, my Cola tasted like a cheap syrup. Far too overpriced for this performance, not recommended. Bad food and 2 drinks for almost 50€

As always: good food, delicious beer but stay away from the vegan potato soup, It doesn't taste like potatoes, just sour, that's not Saarland (based on coconut milk), it wasn't edible. Unfortunately, the offer of ice cream to compensate (vanilla or chocolate or strawberry) for the price of the soup of €7.50 was not very accommodating for us. Too bad

We sat in the "back" and didn't get any food. We could/were allowed to get drinks. We would also have picked up the food ourselves and paid for it straight away. But this was refused. There was also a return for dishes on the back so we can't understand that. So I didn't buy 2 Kaiserschmarrn or 2 apple strudel.

A large alpine hut with Saarland specialties. The Gefillde was certainly a convenience product, as quickly as it was on the table. Still very tasty and plentiful. Took the rest with us... The fries were really good! Overall, very relaxed atmosphere, very suitable for families with children. Friendly service. There is a beautiful playground outside and a magnificent view from Schaumberg over the Saarland. Ideal after a hike. But also easily accessible by car. Also perfect for the final beer in the evening sun after a day trip. Great beer garden. There is also cake. Not a gourmet temple, but just right for the purposes mentioned. And at absolutely fair prices.

Ambience is wonderful, staff was nice. The food is pretty average. You notice that there is more and more emphasis on quantity and the quality goes along with it. On the one hand understandable and also the way things are everywhere else. Among other things, we once had the dish “Alm Jause” with the following ingredients: "Black Forest smoked ham, cooked ham, homemade sausage, meatball, boiled dried meat, raw game meat regional hunting, Obazda, Bliesgauer cheese from Neukahlenberger Hof, radishes and two slices of homemade bread" There were exactly 0 of the radishes on the plate and we are still wondering in which universe these “two slices of house bread” are supposed to be (see picture). Either ONE slice was simply shared here or maybe. a master baker managed to bake half loaves of bread “without” a crust. Both versions are truly astonishing to me. Conclusion: The ambience is nice, you shouldn't expect too much from the food (the other dishes are also mostly ready-made products; e.g. Kaiserschmarrn (plan for 20 minutes is on the menu) comes to the table after 5 minutes... well :)

Great view, nice staff. The food is rich, the salads are delicious. We found the Saarland dishes a bit bland, but of course, it's never as good as grandma's. The prices are a little higher than in town, but you have a unique view and a beautiful children's playground.

Nice excursion restaurant. Unfortunately, it's rare to get a seat without a reservation. So nothing for spontaneous visits. Except later in the summer when the outdoor area is open

Unfortunately the food was too salty and we had to wait a long time for the conditions. Therefore we give it two stars for the restaurant's helpfulness as we didn't have to pay for the meal.

I've never eaten a currywurst like this before, cold fries were too salty and you had to wait 2 hours. Not recommended...

Hello, We were at the Schaumberg Alm today, Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, and had made reservations for 4 people shortly beforehand. The reservation was confirmed for 12:00 p.m. Despite the fact that the large dining room was at most 1/3 full, we were turned away. The reservation would not be valid because it is automatic and the restaurant would be fully booked. Even a friendly request had no success. For us: Schaumberg Alm never again. That doesn't reflect well on Saarland. We have been traveling from Saxony to a different area in Germany every Easter for over 30 years. This has never happened to us before. Many greetings Steffen

No service, self-service, but food ready quickly. Price-performance ratio for the food is okay, a bit more expensive but good portions. Offer is super diverse, also for the children. There is a nice children's playground and a nice part of the forest for the older ones to play in.

In the beer garden there is a wonderful view when the weather is good.

Food was delicious! Service very friendly. Price/performance fair. I don't normally think much of dogs in restaurants, but there I can understand and accept it...many come from hiking and walking. The Alm itself is quite nice, but a bit dark inside. We'd love to come back.

We went there for lunch after a nice walk. Even though we arrived well before the reserved time, we were greeted very warmly. The food was delicious and the “giant stuffed” was a feast for the eyes. The service staff was extremely nice, even when our dogs took up a lot of space. A big “thank you” for that.

It's always beautiful here. The ambience, the food and the location are unique in Saarland. We just love being here.

Update: In the beer garden: Good except for service. Self-service, regardless of this, the service (at the counter) can clearly be improved. Inside: Ambience very nice. There are waitresses inside who are very friendly, unfortunately everyone feels a bit slow/tough. Although there wasn't that much going on. The child only had food 5-10 minutes after the adult had eaten, which of course is not possible. The food is delicious, for me there could be more sauce with the cream schnitzels.
