Fast service, expensive, hardly any vegetarian options

Today, Mother's Day, it was very well attended at 1 p.m. when we arrived. The staff both in the kitchen and in the service were constantly busy and yet after a good 30 minutes we received our meal. Everyone was extremely friendly, despite the stress! The food was plentiful and very tasty 😋 very nice atmosphere, we will be back. Note: So many people would like to climb the tower, but there was a lack of 1 euro/50 cent coins. A solution should be found here. You can now also pay with card at egg vending machines, it should be possible here too.

We are really very disappointed. We both had a salad with a side dish. Far too little sauce on the salad, burnt chicken and my fried potatoes were swimming in fat. Also, my Cola tasted like a cheap syrup. Far too overpriced for this performance, not recommended. Bad food and 2 drinks for almost 50€

As always: good food, delicious beer but stay away from the vegan potato soup, It doesn't taste like potatoes, just sour, that's not Saarland (based on coconut milk), it wasn't edible. Unfortunately, the offer of ice cream to compensate (vanilla or chocolate or strawberry) for the price of the soup of €7.50 was not very accommodating for us. Too bad

We sat in the "back" and didn't get any food. We could/were allowed to get drinks. We would also have picked up the food ourselves and paid for it straight away. But this was refused. There was also a return for dishes on the back so we can't understand that. So I didn't buy 2 Kaiserschmarrn or 2 apple strudel.

Beautiful mountain hut with a great view!

A large alpine hut with Saarland specialties. The Gefillde was certainly a convenience product, as quickly as it was on the table. Still very tasty and plentiful. Took the rest with us... The fries were really good! Overall, very relaxed atmosphere, very suitable for families with children. Friendly service. There is a beautiful playground outside and a magnificent view from Schaumberg over the Saarland. Ideal after a hike. But also easily accessible by car. Also perfect for the final beer in the evening sun after a day trip. Great beer garden. There is also cake. Not a gourmet temple, but just right for the purposes mentioned. And at absolutely fair prices.

Ambience is wonderful, staff was nice. The food is pretty average. You notice that there is more and more emphasis on quantity and the quality goes along with it. On the one hand understandable and also the way things are everywhere else. Among other things, we once had the dish “Alm Jause” with the following ingredients: "Black Forest smoked ham, cooked ham, homemade sausage, meatball, boiled dried meat, raw game meat regional hunting, Obazda, Bliesgauer cheese from Neukahlenberger Hof, radishes and two slices of homemade bread" There were exactly 0 of the radishes on the plate and we are still wondering in which universe these “two slices of house bread” are supposed to be (see picture). Either ONE slice was simply shared here or maybe. a master baker managed to bake half loaves of bread “without” a crust. Both versions are truly astonishing to me. Conclusion: The ambience is nice, you shouldn't expect too much from the food (the other dishes are also mostly ready-made products; e.g. Kaiserschmarrn (plan for 20 minutes is on the menu) comes to the table after 5 minutes... well :)

Great view, nice staff. The food is rich, the salads are delicious. We found the Saarland dishes a bit bland, but of course, it's never as good as grandma's. The prices are a little higher than in town, but you have a unique view and a beautiful children's playground.

The Schaumberg Alm is a beautiful place on the Schaumberg/Tholey. Very nice view of the beautiful landscape of Saarland. Hut feeling high in Saarland. Recommended!

Nice excursion restaurant. Unfortunately, it's rare to get a seat without a reservation. So nothing for spontaneous visits. Except later in the summer when the outdoor area is open

Unfortunately the food was too salty and we had to wait a long time for the conditions. Therefore we give it two stars for the restaurant's helpfulness as we didn't have to pay for the meal.

I've never eaten a currywurst like this before, cold fries were too salty and you had to wait 2 hours. Not recommended...

Hello, We were at the Schaumberg Alm today, Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, and had made reservations for 4 people shortly beforehand. The reservation was confirmed for 12:00 p.m. Despite the fact that the large dining room was at most 1/3 full, we were turned away. The reservation would not be valid because it is automatic and the restaurant would be fully booked. Even a friendly request had no success. For us: Schaumberg Alm never again. That doesn't reflect well on Saarland. We have been traveling from Saxony to a different area in Germany every Easter for over 30 years. This has never happened to us before. Many greetings Steffen

No service, self-service, but food ready quickly. Price-performance ratio for the food is okay, a bit more expensive but good portions. Offer is super diverse, also for the children. There is a nice children's playground and a nice part of the forest for the older ones to play in.

In the beer garden there is a wonderful view when the weather is good.

Food was delicious! Service very friendly. Price/performance fair. I don't normally think much of dogs in restaurants, but there I can understand and accept it...many come from hiking and walking. The Alm itself is quite nice, but a bit dark inside. We'd love to come back.

We went there for lunch after a nice walk. Even though we arrived well before the reserved time, we were greeted very warmly. The food was delicious and the “giant stuffed” was a feast for the eyes. The service staff was extremely nice, even when our dogs took up a lot of space. A big “thank you” for that.

It's always beautiful here. The ambience, the food and the location are unique in Saarland. We just love being here.

Update: In the beer garden: Good except for service. Self-service, regardless of this, the service (at the counter) can clearly be improved. Inside: Ambience very nice. There are waitresses inside who are very friendly, unfortunately everyone feels a bit slow/tough. Although there wasn't that much going on. The child only had food 5-10 minutes after the adult had eaten, which of course is not possible. The food is delicious, for me there could be more sauce with the cream schnitzels.

A very beautiful alpine hut. Wonderfully located with a fantastic view. Plenty of seating inside and outside. A playground is available. Parking is about a 2-3-minute walk away.

The Schaumberg Alm is a true highlight! Great ambiance, super friendly service, and delicious food—the Saarland specialties are especially delicious. The view from the beer garden is simply breathtaking. A definite recommendation; we'd love to come back! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Something different, just not something special to eat. Location top. Staff could be a little sharper, when ordering drinks, wait 15 minutes for the drink to arrive.

Unfortunately our visit yesterday was very disappointing... Due to the beautiful weather yesterday, Sunday March 9th, 2025, we decided to pay a visit to the Schaumberg Alm. The weather was absolutely brilliant and the location of the Schaumberg Alm is simply sensational. But unfortunately we couldn't enjoy it this time...after queuing for 20 minutes at the outside counter to place our order, we were told that we couldn't eat on the terrace today. The reason for this is a lack of staff. It's a shame when you consider that this is a destination for hikers, motorcyclists and many others who want to enjoy the weather on the terrace on such a sunny Sunday day. (you should plan staff accordingly technically) When I asked if there was anything available inside the restaurant, they just said: "I have no idea." A little annoyed by the answer, we still checked to see if we could get a place for two people because we were very hungry. We were immediately greeted in the restaurant with the urgent warning that it could take at least an hour to prepare the food today. After confirmation from us, we were seated at a table. We then waited at the table for about 15 minutes so that someone could come and take our order. When the waitress came to our table, we wanted to order passion fruit iced tea, a shandy, spinach dumplings and currywurst. Unfortunately, the passion fruit iced tea and the spinach dumplings were “out” according to the waitress. Accordingly, we chose an iced lemon tea and the Alm Bowl as an alternative. When our food was brought after 50 minutes, i.e. actually almost an hour's wait, we discovered that the Alm Bowl didn't contain avocado and beetroot, even though it said so on the menu... unfortunately it was also "out"... we weren't informed about it, instead they simply added falafel and coleslaw to the bowl. In my opinion, simply putting something else on the guest's plate and not telling them about it doesn't work at all. In terms of taste and quality, the food was still absolutely fine. Because of this, we ordered a dessert after dinner, but here too it was the same as with the Alm Bowl... We ordered the nougat dumplings, which were to be served with vanilla ice cream and vanilla sauce. Here we got our nougat dumplings with vanilla ice cream, but the vanilla sauce was missing and 3 large heaps of cream were added on the plate (cream was not on the menu) During our entire stay, we also noticed several times how many other drinks and dishes we had ordered were labeled "out" at the neighboring tables. (We heard non-alcoholic wheat, blackcurrant spritzer, etc.) Since the Schaumberg Alm is a place that thrives on good weather and the location, one would have thought that on a day like the Sunday in question, a corresponding amount of staff would be planned and the products would also be available. It seems that something went wrong when planning for the weekend.... It's a shame, because we came from near Forbach specifically to enjoy the afternoon and were unfortunately rather disappointed. No idea if we will come back

We were there for dinner in the afternoon (2 people). Unfortunately we were told at the door that the kitchen would be closed for a few hours because there were too many guests. The main hall was half empty... After a drink we went somewhere else to eat.

The location itself was nice and the service was friendly. However, we were served dessert first instead of our starter. In total we had to wait over 1½ hours for the food, which arrived cold. When we waited for our dessert (again + half an hour wait) we were told that it was unfortunately no longer available!! Waited almost 3 hours in total and was only disappointed.

There are things you only have to see once. Unfriendly service(s), coffee really subpar, fries totally over salted... of course you have to praise the view but nobody can do anything about that.

If you don't have too high demands on the food, you're in a cool location as a guest. We were there with a larger group and had different dishes, currywurst, fries okay, unfortunately the side dishes such as fried potatoes were minimalistic with salad or meat, which I don't think is necessary. There shouldn't be any savings on this. Dessert was great, I can especially recommend the nougat dumplings

It sucks!! You order straight away and after asking several times you are told it will arrive straight away. Adding to this is that half an hour after us a family of 10 arrived and got their food way before us. We were here with 6 people and as an alleged apology we got 2 Kaiserschmarrn... Definitely not recommended 😡🤦 PS our food wasn't complete when it finally arrived. One schnitzel was not completely cooked through and the other was burnt!!!! Also, the applesauce tasted like water. Never again at Schaumberg Alm

We were welcomed very nicely 👍🏻 The service was good. There are enough children's chairs and the Alm is generally very family-friendly. The food was great, the kids also enjoyed it 🙌🏻 The prices are great, you can't say anything about that. So we would like to come back again 👍🏻

Unfortunately I cannot give a review for food and drink After our hiking tour, we wanted to have a drink in the beer garden and didn't receive a drink. The announcement was, we have no staff. It's best to take food with you or you'll die of thirst

Had dinner there today, I have to say I haven't had such a terrible meal in a long time. All the food comes from a commercial kitchen. All salads come from glasses and the schnitzel comes from the deep fryer. Doormat in front of the hut door didn't look very inviting (totally dirty) Absolutely not recommended ☝️😉

The restaurant is very quiet and authentic. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The menu is authentic and sources many items directly from the region. Unfortunately, the kitchen lacks a bit of pizzazz.

Very easy to reach even with a wheelchair and everything is good in terms of space.

It was great weather, so it was full, unfortunately there wasn't enough staff. I wouldn't have complained because I noticed the conditions three times, and the registrar cashed in right at the table next to me, but unfortunately also ignored me. I would understand if she had had her hands full by now or at least said, "I'm coming right away." No, she just cashed in on the neighbor's table and went through the middle. We then left immediately and went somewhere else.

Really a great location with a good service team. We received a friendly welcome and even though it was quite full, we were still able to find a table where we could sit down. Our order was taken very quickly and delivered just as quickly. The Kaiserschmarn was really very good. Same with the apple strudel. The only small negative point was the quality of the meat. The meatball had a very high fat content and the meat was ground very small. I had a currywurst in the summer and the quality was similar. I would also be happy to pay more if the products came from a good butcher 👍 All in all, a great place with nice people and a great place to stop off.

There's too much going on when it's open for me. Price performance doesn't necessarily match. If the beer garden is open, I would recommend this, it's nice and shady under the trees.

Cozy alpine hut with lots of typical charm. Our ordered drinks and schnitzel came quickly. Everything tasted really good, the portions were generous. There was a coloring picture to keep the little guests busy. Great! 👍🏻

Bitte alles im Verhältnis sehen! Wir waren mit 2 Familien auf der Alm essen. Das Essen kam prompt, es war gut und ausreichend. Ein Kinderschnitzel mit Pommes kosten aktuell 4,50€, das Schnitzel war buttrig und lecker und die Pommes ebenso. Dir Bedienung war super freundlich. Wir kommen gerne wieder. Man muss einfach beachten, dass man auf eine Almhütte essen geht und nicht in ein Sternelokal und dass man unter Umständen zu Stoßzeiten weggeschickt wird. Finde ich besser als lange aufs Essen zu warten. Wenn ich das Essen mit lokalen Brauereien vergleiche ist es um Welten besser! Das Ambiente ist einfach urgemütlich und liebevoll dekoriert.

Ich war öfter mit meine Familie hier essen. Wir können nur weiter empfehlen 👍👍👍👍

Unfortunately, our visit to the Schaumberg Alm in Tholey on December 26, 2024 was a bitter disappointment. The ambience is undoubtedly the restaurant's biggest selling point. The furnishings and overall atmosphere are harmonious and the chosen motto was implemented excellently. You immediately feel at home and can only praise the loving design of the restaurant. But unfortunately the food wasn't convincing at all. The schnitzels were a real low point: some of them were badly burnt, while the other half was barely fried and drenched in oil. The impression was that some schnitzels were simply kept warm for hours - that's what they looked like and that's what they tasted like. The cream schnitzel was particularly disappointing, as the sauce was very sparse. Ironically, only the completely burnt schnitzels had a little more sauce, probably to disguise the burnt taste. The salad consisted of a ready-made product, the kind you might buy yourself if you're in a hurry. In addition, there was hardly any dressing available. It almost bordered on being cheeky - what little flavor the dressing had was at least edible. But overall the salad was also a big disappointment. In addition, I cannot understand why, with so few guests, everyone present is pushed into a corner. There was hardly anything going on for the size of the restaurant, but all the guests were crammed so tightly together that they sat back to back with others. That was unpleasant and took away any comfort from the stay Conclusion: The Alm in Tholey is by far the restaurant where I ate the worst in 2024. Despite the size of the restaurant, there were only a few guests there, which completely rules out the impression that the kitchen could have been under stress. It probably speaks for itself that we got a table for ten people at short notice for December 26th. The ambience is excellent - unfortunately the food is the exact opposite. A visit is only worth it if you value a nice atmosphere and can neglect the food.

War ein schöner Abschluss des Ausflugtages am 27.12.24 bei schönem Winterwetter mit unserem Besuch, denen das Ambiente und das Essen sehrgut gefallen hat, nartürlich uns ebebnfalls. Der Service war super freundlich und schnell.

We had ordered a table for 10 people for December 26th, 2024 at 6 p.m. and were looking forward to a great, cozy evening with friends. The location and location itself were reason for us to spend Boxing Day there. The atmosphere was also very cozy and promising. We were given a table, or two tables in the middle, where some of us had to sit back to back with other guests. At first we thought that this could be because the restaurant was fully booked, but this wasn't confirmed within an hour. Most of us ordered schnitzel with sauce (you can't really go wrong), others a salad plate. The schnitzels were definitely NOT FRESHLY BREADED, but pre-breaded in a refrigerator for 1-2 days!! 3 portions were slightly charred, they also had excess sauce, 2 portions were so pale that the sauce was saved. There is NO side salad in this restaurant, which in retrospect wasn't the end of the world since 2 people ordered salads. These came from a mixed bag, as singles know them. That alone is bordering on cheeky, as a salad like this costs over €12 here. There was also some salad dressing, but the two dollops tasted good! I told the waitress (mouthpiece of the kitchen staff) our displeasure, which was denied and discussed. They wanted to serve us an espresso each as "compensation" (we couldn't have sipped that much espresso). The toilets, nicely decorated in BLACK so that you don't see any impurities, is a good idea, but the color doesn't cover up the smell (similar to previous train station toilets). Conclusion: In the end, reviews of such excursion restaurants are not of interest because they know that there is nothing else in the immediate area. Or the staff is constantly changing. We definitely won't be coming to eat anymore

Food was terrible, schnitzel full of fat and cold, you couldn't see that it was fried, it looked like it came from the microwave and the fries were over salted, there is a better schnitzel at every chip shop, even motorway rest stops do it better. Not recommended. Too bad. I won't eat anything there anymore.

Great restaurant, large selection of food and drinks. Had the filled toilet, it was hard to handle but incredibly tasty. Service has everything under control and is very friendly.

The Alm and the Christmas market 🌟🌲✨⭐ were really very nice 🌟I ate a cheese board that wasn't that good🤔no special cheese and also very little. The salad as decoration was like straw (without a bit of dressing) and no mustard honey dressing plus (or something similar) for almost 13€ very expensive 🤷‍♀️

Not recommended at all!! Unfortunately not a good visit for the second time... After the first mistake we thought it could happen... and then we were back. Unfortunately, another total mistake... Waited ages until you were allowed to occupy a table in an empty room... The portions have become significantly smaller for the price explosion and the taste has become poorer...the prices are crazy for what is served. Unfortunately, criticism is not handled well here... In the future, the service should no longer ask at the table whether everything is okay. After we told the waitress in a really careful and friendly manner that the food was really not good or edible, we were left sitting there with the statement that they would continue to serve it... And that's exactly how it stayed, no more communication with us . Until we were allowed to pay (full price, of course) and were briefly left sitting back with a “bye”. Something can always go wrong when the food is served... as a rule no one takes offense. But given the way we deal with visitors/customers, that was definitely our last visit.

I really liked the Schaumberg Alm next to the Schaumberg Tower in Tholey. I've known her for a long time and have been there several times. This is a popular excursion destination of mine, especially in summer, and can be easily reached from Merzig in about three quarters of an hour. The food was always excellent and I enjoyed it, with reasonably large portions. I also had no complaints from the service staff. I'm sure I'll be there again soon, apart from today. 😉

Was there at lunchtime with several work colleagues. Several dishes were ordered and served at the same time in a reasonable amount of time. 👍 The taste of the food was good to very good.😋 Prices and performance were right! A note: A small refill of sauce was charged €3.00 extra. Maybe it should be part of the service. 🤔

Uriges Ambiente in einem Holzhaus. Einfache und nicht zu große Speisekarte mit lokalen Gerichten. Meistens sehr schnelle Bedienung. Und sollte es mal länger dauern findet sich immer eine Lösung im Interesse der Kunden. Hunde erlaubt. Absolut gemütlich und sehr empfehlenswert.

Das Lokal war zu Beginn sehr gut besucht. Bedient wuden wir anfangs dennoch zügig. Auf das Essen haben wir eine Stunde gewartet, was ich als unüblich, aber nicht dramatisch empfand. Die Qualität der Speisen war rundum zufriedenstellend. Die Aufmerksamkeit des Services ließ immer weiter zu wünschen übrig. Statt sich um Gäste zu kümmern, wurde zu dritt gequatscht, oder am Handy gespielt. Es ist sehr deutlich dass kein geschultes Personal vorhanden ist,und auch niemand der Verantwortung trägt. Die Gastgeber Rolle zu übernehmen geht anders.

So we were there on the occasion of our 24th wedding anniversary. We had reserved there. The welcome was friendly and the atmosphere was Alpine hut-specific. The weather that day left a lot to be desired (foggy, cold and wet), but the hut was warm due to the crowd. The service was friendly and attentive. Our choice of food was okay. Starter soup (Saarland beef soup and grumbbeer soup), both delicious. The main course was a bit rushed. All in all it was okay. Would come again in better weather.

We were there yesterday for our friend Christian's birthday party and felt very comfortable. We were absolutely thrilled by the location and the rustic ambience of the alpine pasture; the waitresses were attentive and quick. And then the food: Large portions and super tasty. Our special recommendation is the “largest gefillte in the world”. We would love to come back and look forward to more experiences with the extensive selection of dishes. Elke & Werner

We came after swimming in the Schaumbergbad. We were able to order quickly and received our food relatively quickly. The prices for the children's menus are super fair. Nice enough portion and super tasty. The salad was particularly good
