Schaumberg Alm in Tholey

We were there yesterday in heavy snow and were well looked after; there was plenty of choice for both adults and children.

Great restaurant, the food was delicious and the service was friendly!

I've eaten at the Schaumberg Alm several times and have generally been satisfied. The ambiance is truly lovely, and the service has always been friendly. However, several things struck me as negative during our visit today. While the peppermint tea was made with fresh mint, there was such a small amount that I had to ask for an extra bag. I found that disappointing. We arrived around 5:30 p.m., yet the Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake) was already sold out. I understand that it's busy on weekends, but it was Tuesday, and not yet late. In my opinion, they could easily have made more, especially since fresh batter is relatively quick to prepare. The beef soup, unfortunately, consisted almost entirely of broth and contained very few slices of pancake and no promised vegetables. That was disappointing. I had a similar experience with the apple strudel, which is no longer served with vanilla sauce and also seemed significantly smaller than before. I hope this feedback will be taken seriously. Under these circumstances, however, we will not be returning for the time being.

This is actually my favorite restaurant in Saarland because of the Schaumberg mountain and the cozy mountain hut atmosphere. However, I find it really disappointing that the price of Kaiserschmarrn has increased so much, even though the VAT has decreased. Unfortunately, I'll be eating there less often now. Please don't take this as criticism, but rather as helpful feedback to perhaps make some changes if possible.

We've been to the Schaumberg Alm several times. The staff is always very friendly, even when it's busy. Most recently, I had the Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle), which were delicious, along with the side salad with its really nice dressing. My husband has had the boiled beef twice now, and the meat was incredibly tender each time. I've also had the fried fish, which was also delicious with the potato salad. We'll definitely be back again.

Unfortunately, our visit was disappointing, even though we had already recommended the Schaumbergalm to friends. My portion was far too small. When I told the server, she asked if she could bring me something so I could feel full. She suggested Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake)... I was initially relieved that they were trying to resolve the issue. Then I noticed that the Kaiserschmarrn was listed on the bill for €15. :( On top of that, I sat at the table for about 40 minutes with an empty glass, even though the restaurant wasn't exactly packed. What a shame, it was a disappointing evening.

Cozy alpine hut with very delicious food and very friendly service

We had a wonderful celebration there with 30 people. The staff was very friendly, polite, and unobtrusive, but always available to take orders. A huge compliment on your excellent service! The food was truly superb. The beef soup with pancake strips, vegetable brunoise, and beef cubes had a wonderfully fresh taste, unlike anything I've ever experienced in a casual restaurant. The fresh potato pancakes (NOT frozen) were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The French fries were crispy and piping hot for all 25 of our guests. The schnitzels had the typical bubbly breading and were very juicy and delicious. The Kaiserschmarrn with plum compote and applesauce is highly recommended. I also had the Bienenstich cake, which was one of the best I've ever eaten.

A beautiful ambiance; the interior design is fantastic, especially during the Christmas season. The food is absolutely delicious. It's always busy, so it's a good idea to reserve in advance. The staff is incredibly friendly and comes to the table quickly to take your order. They also check in throughout the meal to make sure everything is alright. It wasn't my first visit, and it certainly won't be my last. Highly recommended. The view is also breathtaking.

The food was excellent. Freshly prepared and we booked well in advance. We had schnitzel with fries. This level of quality isn't always a given these days. The service was also superb. Always friendly and efficient. We'd gladly come back. Top-notch.

Everything was great, fantastic hiking and biking trails, and then a side trip to the alpine pasture. It's really worth it.

A beautifully situated restaurant on the Schaumberg mountain with a fantastic view. The ambiance is invitingly rustic, almost like being in a Tyrolean mountain hut. The service is friendly and efficient. The food is delicious and the portions are very generous. The schnitzel and goulash were tender and well-seasoned. The appetizer platters were also particularly appealing. We thoroughly enjoyed our Christmas party in these premises.

The price is reasonable for the quality. The dining room is a bit dark. I prefer the green room.

We stopped by briefly for lunch, for a meeting. It was rustic and charming, with very friendly service. The coffee and snacks were excellent. We'll definitely visit again next time. The view from there is beautiful.

We were at the Alm last night. The food was delicious and plentiful, and the staff was very friendly and attentive. The Schaumberg Alm musicians provided excellent brass band entertainment. Anyone who enjoys good food and great brass band music will be in good hands here. (The only downside: the band only plays on the first Wednesday of the month.)

New brooms sweep clean… After a guaranteed 20-25 visits, the latest one was also the last for now. Why? The reduction of the old menu is manageable if you don't absolutely need the Alm Bowl. Raising prices while simultaneously reducing portion sizes is no longer acceptable. Ideally, the price of the farmer's salad will be a good example.

The food is fine, the portions have become smaller and now a new menu and then immediately more expensive, now the prices are like in the restaurant then you can also eat otherwise, staff consistently friendly

The food was delicious and generously portioned. Salt and pepper on the table would have been nice. Hot food served all day. Service was prompt and friendly. The atmosphere was excellent, quite unexpected for this location.

We were at the Schaumburg Alm with seven people and enjoyed a variety of drinks and food. The schnitzel was great, as were the spaetzle - the fried potatoes weren't so good, the fries were okay, and the portions were a bit small for larger eaters.

Five of us stopped by the self-service area for an afternoon rest during our motorcycle tour. We were able to park near the hut, so the motorbikes were safe. The view was fantastic, and the food and atmosphere were actually very good. The price/performance ratio was good.

We had a drink here, which was good. We didn't eat here, so I can't comment on that. This beer garden/restaurant with a terrace is located at the highest point in Saarland. You have a beautiful view of the surrounding area from here.

We were invited to a wedding here. The view is breathtaking and perfect for photos. The view from the side room reserved for us was also perfect, and we had a bit of privacy away from the business. The value for money was absolutely excellent, and special praise goes to the young waitress. She was friendly, always present, but never intrusive. That's how a celebration should be. Highly recommended.

Beautiful alpine hut, friendly service, delicious, hearty food, and a fittingly rustic atmosphere. All in all, the concert was superbly executed. The outdoor area is spacious, with a playground and adjacent beer garden. Perfect for parents and children. Ample, free parking just below the hut.

A very beautiful mountain with a tower at the top that offers a beautiful view. It only costs €1. The Schaumbergalm hut right next door offers good, plentiful food and drinks. Although a bit dated, it's still very beautiful up here.

Yes, I can recommend it. The restaurant is very good value for money. Very friendly.

For the first and last time. We waited an hour, but the appetizers were forgotten. They didn't clear away empty glasses or ask for new drinks. The main course was lukewarm, the dumpling was overcooked, the sauce was so-so, and the sauerkraut tasted very sweet. It's a shame, actually, it's a lovely location and the staff is friendly.

Even though the store was busy, everything went smoothly. Ordering, drinks, food, payment. The food was of the usual very good quality.

The food was good. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was like being on vacation.

The food is rather carelessly presented and of okay quality, but you can tell it's a large kitchen and that many convenience products are used. There's little homemade food here. The ambiance takes some getting used to (they try to imitate an alpine pasture, but it has little to do with a real hut). The prices are too high for the overall package. A shame.

The Schaumberg Alm is highly recommended. Its cozy atmosphere and excellent food are truly deserved. It earns five stars.

Very good as you imagine an alpine pasture

We're always happy to come back! We were there yesterday with a dear friend and our children, too. The staff are super friendly, the selection of dishes is good and plentiful, and the portions are large for—from today's perspective—reasonable prices. The beer garden alone, with its shady playground, has been luring us here for years, but the conceptually coherent yet surprisingly designed interior is absolutely worth seeing. It feels very good, like you're on a little vacation on the Schaumberg with its alpine pasture. Our son loves the delicious child-sized schnitzel, and the "real" fries are always a hit. Keep it up!

Unfortunately, some dishes were unavailable because the menu was being revised. The service was reservedly friendly and inflexible when it came to criticism (the guest had to prove that the spritzer contained carbonation by stirring it with a straw, which the child refused to drink). Overall, the atmosphere at the Alm was cozy, if not...

A great place with a viewing tower offering beautiful views of Sarland. You can walk along the gentle slopes and enjoy a meal and a drink at the foot of the tower. The staff is very friendly and helpful, despite their limited language skills. They seem to be reading your mind. What's more, they always have a smile on their faces. I recommend it.

A truly lovely restaurant high up on the Schaumberg! The food was delicious, and the alpine hut has Bavarian charm. I really liked it.

My order for a salad and a pork schnitzel plus two drinks, totaling €40, arrived relatively quickly after 10 minutes. Considering the food was obviously freshly prepared, I can't fathom how the fries could taste cold and dripping with grease. The schnitzel was very undercooked and required a lot of gum removal. The real kicker, however, was the sauce they chose for an extra €3.50, which was a ready-made sauce from a bucket. Such a bottomless nerve to slap a flavored lump of thickener on my schnitzel, and then for €3.50 extra. At this point, I'm lost for words. I forced myself to eat the schnitzel and left the fries alone. I will never visit this place again and will instead find someone who won't bombard me with chemicals for that price. The ambiance is beautiful, but the Alm can't be blamed for that, as the mountain itself is beautiful.

We visited twice during our stay. Once in the wonderful beer garden (self-service), and once in the cozy alpine hut. Delicious food, great atmosphere. The climb is short on foot (1.3 km) but steep (120 m), so the food is well deserved. :-)

I come here very often and I'm always impressed. I'm also inviting my whole family here for my birthday. The staff is so friendly, the food is very good, and the prices are reasonable. It's a busy place with a correspondingly long wait, but the staff is extremely friendly, the food is quite satisfying, the drinks are at a reasonable temperature, and the value is reasonable. I'd happily return occasionally, especially since the view over half of Saarland is truly magnificent.

Had chicken wings, never as bad as here. My companion had schnitzel with pepper sauce, tasteless... Substandard food. Chain restaurant... Never again.

Not anymore. Unfortunately, the parking spaces for motorcyclists at the top were removed and relocated lower down. We bikers probably won't be able to get here anymore. No one trudges up the hill in full gear. Whoever thought of that obviously doesn't like motorcyclists or doesn't drive themselves. It's a shame, we'll be staying away from there.

Update 2025: The motorcycle parking lot has been completely closed and relocated downhill. Therefore, we will no longer be visiting Schaumberg almost weekly as we used to, because walking up the mountain in motorcycle gear and leaving the bikes unattended at the bottom is out of the question. We'll just drive to Petersalm, where motorcyclists are still welcome. Sad. ---- We always enjoy spending time on our motorcycles at the alpine pasture in the summer, sitting comfortably in the beer garden and eating something. There's actually a special motorcycle parking area there, but it's currently closed due to construction work. It's convenient self-service outside, the menu offers a great selection (also for vegetarians), and the food is consistently delicious, the salads super fresh, and everything is prepared without long waits. Highly recommended!

Since the motorcycle parking spaces up on the plateau have been closed at the express request of the Schaumbergalm tenant, as quoted by the mayor, we will visit other beautiful spots with our motorcycle friends. Thank you for the kind gesture.

A fantastic view combined with great food! There's also a children's menu for the kids, and there's a playground on the restaurant grounds. Plenty of beer is available for the adults, too. I ordered a boiled beef main course and the nougat dumplings for dessert. A few minutes after ordering, it was ready. The boiled beef was very tender, the fried potatoes on the side were typical Saarland fare, and the portion size was reasonable for the price. - Definitely recommended. The nougat dumplings are also great. Three hot dumplings filled with nougat cream (unfortunately, Nutella, not homemade) with a scoop of ice cream on the side. The hot/cold contrast isn't for everyone, but it's worth trying! Seats can also be reserved quickly and easily via the Alm's website.

We visited the Schaumberg Alm in January with friends from Indonesia – and it was a complete success! The ambiance is very cozy and inviting, typically Alpine and designed with great attention to detail. The service was attentive and warm, making us feel completely at home. The food also impressed us: regional, fresh, and delicious. A great place to show guests from abroad a taste of German hospitality.

It's a great place to sit. Access by car is easy, with parking just below the hut. The rest of the way is on foot, up the hill. You can ride all the way up by motorbike, although one vendor (left) complains about the motorbikes not being in the way. However, they are already regulars. The food and drink are good, and the prices are fair. There's no table service; everything must be picked up from the hut itself.

A great place to stop with kids. The food is excellent. Great value for money. The view, especially when you sit back under the shade of the trees, is fantastic. We tried different dishes over several days. All were delicious, from simple to elaborate.

Good day to all 🙋🏻‍♂️ I have been to dinner for the second time with 8 people, we sat down at the table and wanted to eat and drink, he gave us menu cards to order the food and then told us we could order drinks until we looked at the menu card, then everything was fine, got the drinks after 7/8 minutes, and then we wanted to order food, then he told us that the kitchen had closed, why didn't he say so straight away 😑 and I don't know how long it will take, 🤬 if the customers can't get any food, we have to inform them beforehand and then we won't get any drinks 😶👈🏻 it's just a money-making scheme, a rip-off and this is the second time already, I'm sorry but we will never be going there again, thank you very much, and the others have to do exactly the same until they get the place under control 😡
