Saustall - Wetterburg in Bad Arolsen

The food tastes good, but the taste gave me the feeling of ready-made sauces. Roulades were good, schnitzels and medallions were okay, grilled vegetables and potatoes were not very seasoned. Service understaffed, but friendly. I'll stop by again but then order from the menu. The reason for my visit was probably unsuitable for the restaurant and therefore my rating is not entirely accurate.

My grandparents celebrated their diamond wedding in the (hall) with 25 people. The boss announced energetically right from the start: the door to the outside should remain closed and we should go out to the front to smoke etc. which we found surprising, well, the food was great, the service was great for the first hour, but then someone came every 45 minutes at most. The lady tried hard, but many people didn't have anything to drink for ages. The dishes from half past five were still there at half past nine. We're really disappointed, we've been to the mess a few times and weren't that happy, but today took it up a notch. We're not coming anymore.

We really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. Food was good, unfortunately the service was a bit overloaded and we noticed several times that not everything was going smoothly, but we were satisfied.

Highly recommended if the waiting time is about 45 minutes OK, but was ironed out by a free salad. The Schweitzer Leckerli dish is highly recommended. Service top.

Were there with a group of 8. Some of us had a small dog with us. Accordingly, we were directed to the back dining room where only people with dogs are allowed to sit. The food was ok. Rather average. Furthermore, it was probably very reluctant to ask for water for the dog. “If the dog is thirsty, he can drink in front of the door,” it was said. You can do it like that, but in my opinion it's not that great. If you are taken to the “dog salon”, you could also leave a water bowl there for them. Prices are ok.

Ate here three evenings in a row, the food is delicious and the portions are good. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is good.

Last night we waited over 2 hours for our food. After asking the waiter, she said that the chef was doing what he wanted and that he couldn't be talked into it. He just wouldn't feel like it today, unbelievable. Unfortunately it was too late to go to another restaurant. I can't recommend this restaurant. You won't see us there again. We were there this evening and had to wait 2 hours for our food. When we asked how long it would take, the waiters could only give us an answer: "We can't say, the chef doesn't feel like it today." Other guests in the room had also been waiting for a long time and then received the answer: "We're sorry, the chef has just stopped cooking again and it may take about 20 minutes until he starts again." We also asked for the boss and were told he wasn't there today. There was something going on, but not so much that it was justified to wait 2 hours for your food. It has to be said that the waitresses couldn't do anything about it. They were really super nice and visibly uncomfortable. In addition, payment is only possible in cash. There was no discount or anything for free like a drink or dessert! For us it was the last time.

This evening we waited two hours, in words TWO hours, for food because... According to the staff, the chef is in a bad mood today and doesn't feel like it and does what he wants anyway??? Unfortunately, at 8:00 p.m./8:30 p.m. it was no longer possible to switch to another restaurant. The right thing to do would have been to get up without further explanation and leave the restaurant as quickly as possible, which would unfortunately mean having to go to bed hungry! The staff was in distress and apparently completely overwhelmed by the situation! We will not recommend this “dirty stable” and will not visit it again under any circumstances!

Went to the restaurant on Saturday evening at 6:05 p.m. We were immediately told that it might take a little longer to eat. OK no problem. Enjoyed the beautiful ambience and then enjoyed 2 large beers. When, after 2 hours of waiting, the table next door received its food, even though it arrived later, and when we asked what happened to our order there was no concrete answer, we paid and left hungry. No reasonable excuse - nothing. Apparently the chef was in a bad mood and unpredictable. It's a shame for the beautiful shop. The waitress was overwhelmed by the situation.

Very quaint and rustic atmosphere. On my grill plate my meat was a little dry. The cream schnitzel and fries my wife had were great. Overall it fits. However, it is not contemporary that only cash payment is possible. I would like to see electronic payments here.

The service behind the counter is very nice and helpful. The quality of the food is tasty. Steak was on point, but with 4 small roasts the side dish is very minimal. We should be a little more generous in the future. Otherwise, of course, great atmosphere.

We are here for the first time today, I had the pork medalions with pepper sauce and fried potatoes. My husband had the onion schnitzel with fries and salad. Both were delicious and we were completely satisfied. The friendly service staff also fulfilled all of our wishes, thank you!! We will definitely come back 👍😉

Dogs are apparently not welcome here: we had reserved a table and also indicated the dog. Were still treated extremely unkindly by the owner. Instead of a greeting, he just bleated through the restaurant “with his dog.” When guests sat down at the table next to us, he asked them if the dog was bothering them and if they would like to sit somewhere else. Meanwhile our dog lay peacefully under the table! Otherwise the gentleman sat around more like a guest. The waitress didn't offer a second drink and we felt ignored. Then it would be better to say straight away that dogs are not allowed in this restaurant. Strangely, this is our third experience with unfriendly service in Wetterburg. Our conclusion: We will never go here again!

Were there for Christmas. The food was very expensive in relation to the quality. The boss just said that he didn't feel like it anymore and that he would be retiring soon. Do you have to mention this to guests?

My mother had reserved a table for our family at the Saustall restaurant for Boxing Day. Not only that my poor 83 year old mother was left standing with us in the entrance area. There was also no common table at which we could sit together. When we asked the innkeeper, Mr. Landau, he reacted incredibly angrily, saying he couldn't cut a table out of his ribs. When asked about the reservation, he said that we were just unlucky. We then decided to leave the restaurant immediately, knowing full well that we probably wouldn't be able to find another restaurant with this group size and that our Christmas dinner, for which we had traveled to Wetterburg with the family from Kassel and Göttingen, fell through. We didn't want to stay alone in this unfriendly environment for a second longer. Unfortunately you can't give zero points to the review, so I'm giving the one necessary review star. The pigsty, which rightly bears its name, gets full marks and its owner, Mr. Landau, gets full marks for his unreliability and unfriendliness. Warmest recommendation to give this restaurant a wide berth!

Brilliant atmosphere. The food was very tasty and well prepared. The premises are different from normal restaurants and encourage you to look around and be amazed. Can only recommend it. You should see it in person and you will understand what I am writing about.

After a hike around Lake Twiste with our three kids, we were hungry and looking forward to lunch. Unfortunately, we were turned away at 1:30 p.m. - an hour before the kitchen officially closed - because they were no longer taking orders. So our lovely trip ended with a lot of frustration... It's a shame.

Oh well! If the landlord throws you out at 9 p.m. because he doesn't have any service staff, it's pretty embarrassing. Sorry, then the boss has to be there himself and entertain his guests.

We were registered for dinner at 7 p.m. with 20 people. In the afternoon we were informed by phone that the restaurant would close at 9 p.m. due to staff illness. This was accepted by us and we were there in time for dinner. When someone in our group wanted to order a last beer at 8:40 p.m., the landlord appeared in our dining room and shouted loudly, repeating several times, that he would close at 9 p.m. in a completely inappropriate manner that seemed threatening. This strange "appearance" was completely unnecessary since no one questioned his intention to close at 9 p.m. Our attempts to calm him down were unsuccessful. When we left the restaurant, promptly at 8:57 p.m., the innkeeper was sitting at the counter, his head turned away and not even able to say "Goodbye" or "Thank you for your service to get a "visitor" on your lips. Poor... absolutely poor! Nobody in our group criticized his intention to close at 9 p.m. We all understood that sometimes there is no other option when there is a lack of staff. But no guest who behaves politely and correctly deserves this nasty behavior.

We, my wife, and I were in the pigsty for the second time and were simply thrilled!!! Service and food are great. . . THANKS

Wanted to eat at 1:30 p.m. Was told the kitchen was closed and only guests who had reserved. It's a shame for people who want to go out to eat spontaneously

Show kitchen hours until 9:30 p.m. and then at 8:06 p.m. there are 4 hungry potential guests, some of whom have traveled over 20 km, who you are no longer willing to cook for. It's really poor what you've become.

My Jägerschnitzel was a mix of Jäger and Wienerschnitzel. Far too little champion sauce. The schnitzel was only 1/4 covered with champion sauce. Next time the order will be returned immediately. Good taste.

Were rudely expelled from the house because you can only come with a reservation. (Inn was almost empty). However, it doesn't say anywhere that you have to make a reservation. Very disappointing…

Visited based on recommendation and good reviews, but received an impersonal response when I tried to make a reservation online and then no response. Luckily we were able to get a seat when we visited directly, but were completely ignored by the innkeeper when we entered. Chicken nuggets with black corners from the oven, cheap thin fries from the wholesale market, ready-made herb butter not even from a good brand, salad dressing edible, gypsy sauce stretched with corn and water and schnitzel breaded with virtually no reduction. Waiting 15 minutes for the bill when there are few visitors, setting up tables and taking drinks is probably more important. You also wait in vain for a thank you when paying and a farewell. The 2 stars are only for the beautiful location, the medium fried rump steak and the schnitzel was at least tender.

Two very tasty meals, friendly employees and a very fair price for what you get. The only thing you have to take into account is that you can only pay with cash, not with a debit card or credit card. This is indicated in the restaurant.

Found this quaint restaurant near the Twistesee motorhome parking area (approx. 1 km). Nice and attentive service with good home cooking! Definitely recommended! wasn't here for the last time!

A really very nice restaurant! Everything is beautifully done in the style of an alpine hut, inside and out! The food and the service were "quite good" but not as great as would be fitting for this great restaurant!

Tasty at reasonable prices, fast service

Our first visit was a few days ago. We ate very well and tasty and were satisfied with the price/performance ratio. We'll be back tomorrow and assume things will be fine again. 👍🤗

Lots of moderate schnitzel variations and very cozy furnishings in South Tyrolean style. Be sure to try the 54% Saustall Spirit. He can do something. Reservation situation was a bit difficult as it was quickly booked out on the terrace, but something was always possible for house guests.😉 Recommendation!

Even though we didn't reserve, we still got a spot. That was very nice. The food was very tasty, baked with cheese - schnitzel and pork medallions. The meat was very good. The cheese wouldn't be necessary. Next time without cheese if possible. Fried potatoes were very good. Specials were good. The waitress pointed out to us that the plates were very hot, which was very attentive. The atmosphere was very nice. Should be reminiscent of South Tyrol. Definitely worth a visit, but you should make a reservation otherwise you risk not getting a seat, especially in the evening.

Very good economy. The food was very tasty, although I didn't get the Swiss (loin) with spaetzle I ordered because the waitress noted pork steak. Listen, understand, write... 🤭. But the pork steak was also very tasty, unfortunately with fried potatoes instead of spaetzle. But overall everything was very tasty and the drinks were fresh. I ordered cola with soda, unfortunately there was no carbonation. I ordered schnitzel with mushroom sauce and fries. It would be better if you served the sauces in a separate bowl so that the breading of the schnitzel doesn't get soft and the bottom fries don't get soggy. But the schnitzel was very soft 😀.

The service was very friendly, the food was solid and the outdoor area was completely fine. We had a schnitzel and a steak. Steak was really well cooked and there is nothing to complain about. The side dishes were nothing special and the sauce tasted more like it was in a bag than homemade. But that's not reprehensible. We will definitely be back on our next vacation!

Friendliness of service, well Schnitzel, asparagus with hollandaise sauce and swanked potatoes. There is no demand for fried potatoes 🙈. There are no vegetarian Maultaschen 🙈 and there are 2 vegetarian dishes. The ambience is very nice but doesn't go well with just a few dishes. So if you want to eat schnitzel and nothing else, this is the place for you.

We wanted to eat there and had been sitting there for 20 minutes when the waitress came and said that she was alone and that she could only accept guests who had reserved because they were having a golden wedding anniversary. Well, I'm of the opinion that if you're having a golden wedding anniversary then you already know it beforehand and you make sure that you have enough staff. Everything was empty and you could have served two people. For us it's never eaten again. I'd rather go to the cowshed.

We ate there based on a recommendation. We had reserved, but it wasn't recorded correctly. After a 10-minute discussion, we were finally able to take a seat. The waitress was completely annoyed. Brought a schnitzel to our table, which was not ordered. The waiter's comment: Now they don't even know what they ordered!! In the kitchen it turned out it was for another table. Since we didn't particularly like the food we ordered, we won't be coming back here.
