Sala Thai Restaurant in Hamburg

I would say that this restaurant is one of the best Thai Restaurant in Germany ever. I love everything since I walked in until I walked out from the restaurant : the service, food and atmosphere are totally good. The restaurant and toilet are clean and smell good. The decorations are vibing along with Xmas theme but still stick with Thai style culture. To anyone who is in Hamburg or have a plan to visit Hamburg, I would love to recommend this restaurant.

Nice friendly restaurant, a bit noisy but the food is worth it

Nice atmosphere and good quality of food, but unfortunately everything is completely tasteless. The diversity of Thai cuisine and its spices did not take place. What if the food is served just 5 minutes after ordering? The Maitai also has nothing in common with traders, it only tasted like pure sugar syrup.

Terribly nice service and a very approachable, polite way of dealing with guests. For me, however, the price-performance ratio of the main courses is not right. There were 3 pieces of meat in the chicken curry. Otherwise the pot was filled with potatoes and pineapple (which I wouldn't have expected in the Massaman curry). Potatoes do cost a bit less. Drink prices also at the upper end. Is it due to the central location near the main train station? Otherwise a really very pleasant evening.

Had the opportunity to eat on October 22, 2024. Ordered stir-fried pork with basil to serve as a side dish. Soon there would be a separate bowl of rice, chicken tom yum and drinking water. Total price was 20 euros, which is very good taste. The price is compared to our home. If compared to the food here, I think the prices are normal. Just seeing the fish sauce chili brings tears to my eyes. If I have a chance, I will definitely stop by again. ❤️

This makes me mad and upset. Ordered a takeaway Tom yum soup and got this (I haven’t even started eating). Seriously? Not to mention, very small bowl for 15 euros

Nothing to complain about - we were there for lunch. Prices are very reasonable and in return you get very good quality. I can't judge its authenticity - but we enjoyed it very much (we both had a variation with duck meat). Service was good.

Food has changed somewhat compared to before, around 10 to 20 years ago. Portions smaller, fewer vegetables, hardly any cashews, less meat and overall not as tasty as it used to be, even in the old rooms. So the conclusion: the quality has changed a bit, but it's still ok and tasty, but nothing particularly special or out of the ordinary anymore. Vegetarian 5 course menu for just under €49 per person. It was very tasty. However, we didn't quite finish the main course because it was a lot. There was red coconut curry with tofu and vegetables, baked sweet and sour tofu and a salad that also had tofu with peanut sauce. All in all, a little too much tofu in the menu or in one course. Otherwise it was delicious and cozy. Next time I would put my dishes together myself. Highly recommended is the vegetable sate, where you can “grill” your own vegetables or meat skewers on the open flame. A real highlight together with the delicious peanut sauce. The only course that wasn't so premium was the soup, because it could have had a little more flavor and the tofu floating in it could have been at least a little seasoned, because unfortunately it didn't taste like anything.

Overall a nice restaurant. The food was OK. But it works better. Prices are, well, bearable.

The best Thai restaurant I've ever been to outside of Thailand! Sala Thai is a really authentic Thai restaurant. As soon as you enter, you can feel the Thai flair through the furnishings with lots of plants, wooden decorations and typical Thai decorations everywhere. The owners are also Thai and greet you in a very friendly manner. We ended up here by chance on our trip to Hamburg and couldn't have found a better restaurant for our first evening here. We have spent most of the last 5 years in Southeast Asia, mainly in Thailand, which of course taught us to love typical Thai cuisine. Back in Germany, it was very difficult to find a good Thai restaurant, let alone one that tastes almost exactly like Thai food (understandable, of course). We were more than impressed by the Sala Thai Restaurant. The food here tastes simply excellent, almost like in Thailand itself. We had a massaman curry with tofu and beef with Thai basil as well as mango sticky rice for dessert. And everything was simply divine! I haven't eaten so well for a long time. Not only is the food here first class, but also the whole ambience, the service and the staff. Almost as if we were really in Thailand. And best of all, the Sala Thai Restaurant has even been recognized by the Thai government and certified as authentic Thai food from Thailand. The numerous certificates and awards hang on the wall downstairs. I can't praise this restaurant enough. For anyone who loves authentic real Thai food, I can wholeheartedly recommend Sala Thai. It's the best I've eaten in a long time. 5 stars and more!

Very tasty food. Soup of the day, nice and spicy and tasted excellent. The selection of dishes for lunch is very large. Beef with bamboo shoots was great. Dessert is very large, the scoop of ice cream is the size of three normal scoops. Absolutely top value for money. Service best, friendly, attentive and competent. No long wait for food and drinks, it goes quickly. We would love to come back here. Best recommendation!

Nice and tasteful setting, cozy Asian atmosphere and possibility of eating seated (illusion because there is a hole in the ground to pass your legs through) Well prepared and quality dishes, not elaborate enough for my taste and given the price at the top of the range: vegetables roughly cut, but this is a very good table: varied menu: nothing to complain about

Moin Folks, die meiste Zeit in meinem Leben begleitet mich das Sala Thai hier Brandsende.👍🤩 Schon 1989 war ich dort zum Essen eingeladen, geschäftlich auf dem Eck tätig und damals ein paar Meter näher zum Georgsplatz, damals mit Brücke über den reißenden (Lache gerade in mich) Bach/Strom. Nun aktuell hier und heute ein geiles Gedicht. Beifolgende Bilder sagen auch etwas besonderes aus, hier war schon Otto um mal einen zu nennen, es ist nach vielen Jahrzehnten „Megageil“ und das in jeder Hinsicht. Die außergewöhnliche Freundlichkeit beim hereintreten und geile Portionen und wahrlich geile Speisen, Danke es war ein Hochgenuss. Leckerschmecker, wir erscheinen wieder.

The ambience of the restaurant is absolutely authentic, Thai. Sitting at Thai tables is also possible. The selection and quality of the dishes are second to none. Everything is fresh and you can immediately taste the freshness of the ingredients used. It should be emphasized that you can express your wish regarding the spiciness, which will also be taken into account during preparation. This means you can choose individually how spicy or not the dish you choose should be. You can also get information about the “basic spiciness” of the dishes on offer by looking at the chili peppers displayed in the very extensive menu. A lunch menu is offered during the week. Everything is really right here... Great atmosphere, authentically Thai, including friendly service staff and extremely good Thai cuisine in a central location. Absolutely recommended.

The Thai restaurant impresses with an inviting ambience in which you can sit comfortably and enjoy the atmosphere. The food was served quickly, almost a little too quickly for my taste. In terms of taste, the food was quite good, even if it wasn't necessarily exceptional. The service was polite, but without any particular enthusiasm. Overall, a solid visit that still has potential for improvement.

I have a visitor from Thailand who also had a birthday during his vacation time. We visited several Thai restaurants in advance to find the best for this particular one. Sala Thai Restaurant not only offers a charming ambience, but also perfect service and, most importantly, authentic cuisine. Having been to Thailand several times, I would like to say that I can say this, but if my visitor tells me that he feels at home when he enjoys the food, then I can't be so wrong. Try it out and give your feedback. 😀

In my opinion: Its really good for the price your paying. We really enjoy the food specially the dessert. We ended up coming the next day after eating here for the first time. I recommend it if you are into thai food. We will definitely coming back. Staff are also very friendly and nice.

After 6 years we finally managed to eat there again and loved it as always. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

We come here every now and then, usually for special occasions. We used to always be very satisfied. Now, after a gap of around three years, it was time to get back here. I was really looking forward to duck with pineapple and quickly found it on the menu, Then came the food: Basically very tasty, but in the past there was always plenty of sweet, juicy and fresh pineapple cubes. Now I was able to find 3(!) canned pineapple pieces in my food, which were so small that together they only made half a slice. Aside from that, they had an extremely bland taste even for canned pineapples. I immediately asked the waiter for an explanation. He just kept asking me if I wanted another dish. No, I didn't want to, so I asked if I could get some fresh pineapple cubes from the kitchen in the food. At least that worked in sufficient numbers. They weren't sweet or ripe, but they were better than canned pineapples (which I don't normally have any problems with). The other food was, as usual, well seasoned and very tasty. Unfortunately, at the end we waited in vain for the warm washcloths and the peppermint candies. It's a shame, the restaurant has gone extremely low. It remains to be considered whether we will have to take the long journey with high parking fees in the future (I have mobility problems, getting there by public transport doesn't work well thanks to the constantly broken elevators).

Nie wieder,so schlechtes Essen und so schlechter Service unglaublich. Servieren eine schlechte stinkende Ente und sind dann noch pampig wenn man sie darauf aufmerksam macht.kellner beschimpft dich auf thai und droht mit all möglichen. So was hab ich in 52 Jahren nicht erlebt. Werde Gesundheitsamt und Ordnungshüter vorbeischauen.

Perfectly Thai tastes (from a Thai perspective). Totally recommended for anyone who wants to taste the authentic Thai food.

Staff are welcoming and food is good and big portion but expensive

The food was delicious and the service was friendly and attentive. I particularly like the beautiful presentation of the dishes. The seafood salad in particular was very tasty. Hot, crunchy, sour. I liked. Filling portions. The price is reasonable for it.

Delicious Thai food (preferably spicy) in a nice atmosphere and with friendly, courteous staff. Price-performance ratio overall acceptable, although in the upper range (as is common in the post-Corona era, especially in large cities).

I was a guest with a friend. We sat in the area where you sit on the floor without shoes (barefoot or in socks) and your feet dangle under the table. That was very nice and pleasant. The food was generally okay, but you have to be careful with intolerances (gluten and histamine). Therefore I won't come back. I had a histamine flush while eating. Soy. Vinegar. Hot sauces. Unfortunately, this is counterproductive.

I recently had dinner here with a business partner. The staff was very friendly and the food tasted good. The portions were not overly large but absolutely sufficient. Food Drinks were served to us very quickly. What I found a bit unfortunate was the fact that, despite empty glasses and a manageable number of guests, no staff was seen for a long time. All in all, a recommendation!

As I'm originally from Thailand, this place is my favorite Thai restaurant in Hamburg. Recommend!

Truly an excellent Thai cuisine restaurant in the center of Hamburg. Brand new and very clean and well-kept environment. Very fast and courteous service. The dishes we ate were very good and of original Thai traditions. I highly recommend it.

Extraordinary dishes, intense flavours, mice staff - we had chicken curry & spicy beef with Thai basil leaves and mango sticky rice, all amazing... but so were the prices🤭 a 0,75ml water bottle was 10€. The beef was 25€ & the chicken 24€. Just Keept the good memories and delicious taste😁

We visited Hamburg for another time and we looked for dinner after a long day with the Deutsche Bahn which brought us from Switzerland to Hamburg. We like Thai food. The menu looked very delicious with a lot of flowers and vegetables. However the taste of the food was boring and would not meet the level of the look of the dishes.

Anyone who doesn't know Sala Thai in Hamburg has definitely never been to the Thai restaurant. I have remembered this restaurant for over 35 years, a bit out of town but on the same street, and I like to come back again because of tradition. The Tom Ka Ghai is a must, the portions are not generous, authentically seasoned, a bit overpriced, but the restaurant is very well decorated and the ambience is great, location ideal for business customers or shopping in the city.

Eigentlich kann man doch bei Thai Küche nichts falsch machen…..aber es war unterirdisch: Zwischen Elbjazzkonzerten gabs eine kurze Pause, die wir für ein leckeres Essen nutzen wollten: 4 typische Gerichte bestellt, Sate Spiesse, rotes Curry, Fisch Curry….alles nicht essbar: Das Geflügel war kein anscheinend kein Hähnchen sondern Truthahn, der so schlecht war…, die Saucen katastrophal (was kann man da eigentlich falsch machen?), der Fisch mit scharfer schlechter Sauce…und dann kostet das auch noch richtig Geld, Hauptgericht für mindere Qualität fast 25€…..jede Streetfood in Bangkok 1000mal besser. Einzig positiv: Es gin so schnell, dass man schon gewusst hat, dass hier nichts frisch im Wok zubereitet wird. Schämt Euch dieses Restaurant gut zu bewerten.

Decent curry, but rather mild even though I tried to get them to put true Thai heat in it. The other entrees were also a bit lacking in the heat department, but the flavors were great!

Lunch on a rainy Wednesday at prime dining time. Both the soup and the main course, Pad Gra Prao Pla Muk (squid with chili and Thai basil), are steaming in front of me in no time. In terms of taste, both are a poem! The staff is warm and very attentive. In addition to stylish crockery and cutlery, the special Thai tables also contribute to the authentic ambience. Another positive thing is that my little dog was welcome.

Highly recommended if you want to enjoy Thai food in a cultivated atmosphere.

I’ve been coming to this restaurant for 12 years The food has been good, but on a few occasions, a bit inconsistent I was here on Tuesday and I ordered larb gai . It was delicious Ordered it again on Thursday it was a late order at about 10 o’clock at night (dine in) Food arrived but was amazingly substandard no taste no flavour and was very clearly rushed so that the team could go home on time I explained to the waiters that the food was not good and did not have any taste to which they just laughed at me and walked away. Spoke to the manager and explained this was the situation to which he denied all responsibility of any service and proceeded to say the bill had already been printed and it was nothing they could do Unacceptable really disappointed given my patronage of 12+ years Out of principle, I will no longer come to this restaurant to eat and I won’t recommend it either Don’t bother because they don’t understand customer service and the food is inconsistent and they’ve really annoyed me after 12 years of patronage

A very nicely and comfortably furnished restaurant, friendly and attentive staff, delicious dishes & starters, very freshly prepared with fresh fish, ginger, lemongrass and fresh pepper. It was a pleasure with all the freshness Ingredients and delicious Thai cocktails, you felt a little like you were on vacation in Thailand!

There is wonderful, authentic Thai cuisine here, with friendly staff in a quiet and very nice atmosphere 😊 Everyone enjoyed their dishes. I had the Massaman curry with chicken and rarely had such tender meat. The curry was very aromatic and had a pleasant spiciness to me. Not all dishes are listed on the menu, but the staff is very friendly and helpful. There is also a separate vegetarian menu that you can ask for. What I can recommend to everyone is the Thai iced tea. We taste very good as it comes, but you also get condensed milk, which makes the tea even better.

As a starter I had a vegetable soup with chicken, there were 3 small pieces in it and yet very little for €10.90. For the main course I had lamb with figs, which was really delicious but is now very expensive.

Som altid skal vi forbi Sala Thai når vi er i Hamburg. Igen super lækkert og velsmagende mad 😊 Grunden til kun 3 “stjerner” er at vi syntes det er begyndt at være lidt småsnusket derinde. Støvranker rundt på tingene derinde, og kanten rundt ved gulvet hvor vi sad, var heller ikke rent. Servicen: ved bestilling den samme utrolig venlig Thai herre, men en så knap så venlig Thai kvinde, og så holdte de slet ikke øje med vores bord, og, ja vi fik ikke købt de ekstra drikkevare som vi gerne ville have, så ikke noget ekstra salg der. Yderemere så havde vi bestilt bord online, men det havde de slet ikke styr på 😔 Men maden lækker som altid !

We were the penultimate guests in the restaurant for dinner on October 24th, 2023 around 9:30 p.m. 2 x duck, the ducks were skinless, the side dishes consisted of raw vegetables and 2 half tomatoes. The beer was stale and old, the wine diluted. The waiter picked his tooth with one hand and carried a plate with the other. A restaurant below every level, the leftovers probably had to go. Inferior quality of food and drinks, inferior service. A warning to any late guests, you will only be ripped off there. If there were minus stars, the restaurant would have earned -5 stars.

Here you can order “extra spicy” and get extra 🌶️! In my case with the “crispy duck breast”

The ambience is appealing. I was here about 25 years ago. The quality of some dishes (vegetable baskets, Hors D'Oevre Sala Thai) is disappointing, too much dough, doesn't really seem to be homemade but rather industrially prepared). In terms of taste, only the chicken-soy-bamboo dish was appealing to good, but unfortunately it was served without a warming plate, so the dish was no longer warm the second time I ate it. However, there were warm plates to eat with). I was in Thailand in November 2023, where without exception all the dishes tasted better and were fresher than here in Sala Thai. - Overall, unfortunately disappointing and also too expensive. Can't understand the positive reviews here and on Tripadvisor and co. There are better ways to enjoy Thai cuisine in Hamburg!

Unfortunately, the food is not Thai, as the dish uses sweet/sour European vegetables.

I was traveling for two weeks in Scandinavia, I was tired of burgers and hot dogs, so I really wanted soup and something homemade, and since I have a transfer in Hamburg and a three-hour wait, I decided to find a place where I could eat soup. it is not far from the train station, 500 meters to walk, the establishment surprised me with its atmosphere, the service staff is very friendly, they all understand what you want, they can even give you a hint, I am so pleased that I came here, thank you to the restaurant that you embody the consumer's wishes so well. I recommend

Ordered chicken with cashew nuts (Gai pad med Mamuang). It was okay, but I've had it tastier and more plentiful elsewhere.

Lunch 12-3 p.m., super friendly service. Good vegetarian/vegan selection. Pad Thai Gai is also possible vegetarian/vegan upon request. Delicious food with a nice spiciness.

The food is fresh, tasty (note: normal hot is really hot), it is clean and tidy, the waitresses are nice and friendly. Lots of choice at lunch too. Yes, not cheap, but worth every cent. The reservation platform also works well. Always my pleasure.

We had dinner at Sala Thai last night and had high expectations based on the reviews and prices... While the food was tasty, it wasn't particularly unique for the price. The chicken dishes hardly had any meat in them, almost only vegetables. But you can get more food and more courteous service elsewhere. We spent €95 for two people and that WITHOUT wine or anything similar. There was no nightcap on the house and no one asked whether we liked it or whether we would like to drink something else. We probably won't come back again...:(

Wir hatten eine hervorragende Suppe als Vorspeise, aber waren überrascht das es keine Auswahl an mehreren Vorspeisen gab. Die Suppe hat uns aber mehr als überzeugt. Auch unsere Hauptspeisen hatten den richtigen Biss und Schärfe. Der Service war super und mehr als bemüht.

Sehr hübsch,netter Service,Gerichte lecker aber eingedeutscht.Die Cocktails hatten aber ordentlich Wumms und schmeckten köstlich.

Wir hatten von der überaus preiswerten Mittagskarte, und waren beide extrem zufrieden mit Geschmack und Schärfegrad und Preis unserer jeweiligen Bestellung. Gerne demnächst wieder.

Schönes Restaurant mit netter Ambiente. Essen ist wirklich lecker und sehr schmackhaft. Empfehle das Rindfleisch mit Chilli & Thai-Basilikum. Haben auch Menü mit Allergieliste und ein Menü für Vegetarier. Lohnt sich.
