Saigon in Jena

Saigon offers truly excellent Vietnamese food at moderate prices, from appetizers (coconut-spiced soup, salad) to main courses (curries, spring rolls) and even dessert (mochi with ice cream). Everything is delicious and beautifully presented. We especially appreciated the wide variety of noodle dishes. The selection of vegan options is also extensive. The service was consistently friendly, and we felt very comfortable throughout.

A very cozy Vietnamese restaurant with wonderful lanterns hanging from the ceiling. The decor was also very artistic. The highlight, however, was the food. Even just seeing the dishes being carried past made my mouth water. We had gyoza and summer rolls. Juicy, fresh, and flavorful. For dessert, I had fried rice noodles with fried shrimp, and my companion had udon with crispy chicken and sesame sauce. Delicious. We finished with mochi cake and ice cream for dessert. Yummy. The service was friendly but unobtrusive, and always readily available when needed. Even when I was looking for my phone case, they immediately helped me find it. Helpful and attentive. When we're back in Jena, I know where to go again.

Fantastic food, fantastic service, and very fair prices. Tip: Order the Evil Wok (#37) with vegan duck; you'll never want to eat "regular" duck again.

I would give zero stars if I could. Three staff members were working, but none of them were actually doing anything. Guests were consistently ignored, as were any subsequent complaints.

I was there three years ago and the food was delicious, unfortunately I was there a year ago and the quality of the food was definitely worse, it wasn't as tasty, I don't know if the chef has changed... I'm a vegetarian and I was surprised by the selection of vegetarian food, which is definitely a plus. That's what happened the first time I was there. I ordered vegetarian duck and it was so well prepared that I thought it was real duck.

We were here for the first time on Saturday. We didn't have a reservation and still got a great table. The food was so delicious that I'm still thinking about the duck two days later.

The restaurant is super nice, and you can always find a seat. We found the food to be mediocre. Most dishes come with a "side salad" consisting of pre-shredded lettuce and no dressing. Unfortunately, this seems a bit uninspiring, and we didn't know what to do with the salad. The main components of the meal (curries, sauces, vegetables, and meat (or meat substitutes)), however, are incredibly delicious. We were also pleased that almost every dish offers various vegan alternatives—duck, fried or baked tofu, etc.

Delicious and very nice ambiance, food came quickly, and portions were generous. All in all, very good value for money.

What a wonderful experience! The service was great, very friendly staff. There was live music playing and the atmosphere and lights were magical. I was shocked that there were 3 full pages of vegan food offered on the menu! I had the vegan Tom Kha. It was one of the best dishes I have ever had. Overall, I am very impressed. 5/5 stars!

We went to the Vietnamese restaurant for lunch yesterday for the first time! We really enjoyed the food. The service was friendly, and we liked the ambiance. It's also nice that you can sit outside. We would go back!

We ate here based on many other recommendations. We generally enjoy Asian food. The family ordered several dishes. They looked great, but one or two didn't taste as good as they appeared. The main courses didn't come together, and we even had to ask where the remaining two were. It's a good thing we pre-ordered, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to get a seat for several people.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it. The service was completely overwhelmed. Our order was forgotten, so we ended up waiting 1.5 hours for our food. After a quick opportunity to get our attention and ask what was going on, it arrived 20 minutes later. Quite good food, but also relatively expensive!

🌟 5 stars – Simply fantastic! We went to the Saigon Restaurant in Jena two days in a row – it was so good! The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel at home immediately. The tea was delicious and served with style. The food was also wonderful – fresh, healthy, and very flavorful. We were particularly impressed by the tofu dish with crunchy vegetables. Both times we paid around 40 euros for a complete meal including drinks – a very fair price for this quality. A real highlight in Jena – we'll definitely be back!

Truly excellent food. The peanut sauce, in particular, is extremely aromatic and second to none. The breaded, fried tofu was also absolutely delicious. The portion size is perfectly acceptable, in my opinion.

The food is very good, the portions could be a little larger. The staff is super nice and the atmosphere is great. The chairs outside could be a little more comfortable 😄 I will go back and eat there, definitely recommended!

I don't usually write negative reviews, but this place was very disappointing. This place is too crowded. congested and noisy--even on a Monday evening. That does not make for an enjoyable meal. The food is not something to write home about either. The Pad Thai I ordered was probably the worst meal I have eaten anywhere! It tasted like boiled rice noodles in soy sauce. I love Thai food and eat it at least once a month at different restaurants in the U.S, most of which are amazing and operated by real Thai people. This place (Saigon) is a fraud, merely trying to deceive the local Jena population who may not have experienced authentic oriental cuisine. Their cocktails are OK though. Worst of all, the service is very poor. I had to wait 40 minutes (yes, 40 and not four!) for the server to bring me the bill even after requesting it following my dinner. And it took three attempts at nudging them to finally get it on my table. Furthermore, they ahd the audacity to ask me to include a tip. That was outrageous and totally unacceptable!

We would like to thank you for the excellent food, it is the best Asian cuisine that we were able to get to know in Germany. The atmosphere is very inviting and the service is very good. Thank you again, we'll be back.

Great Food, very kind service, genuine food, fluent in English. If you like it more spicy, ask for fresh Chili. We had different spring rolls, I recommend the fried ones.

Very good Vietnamese restaurant located near stadtzentrum Jena. The decor and ambience with the paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling is magnificent. They make some lovely cocktails such as the wild berry sour. My favourite dishes here are the five spice crispy duck platter and also the clear chicken soup when I am feeling under the weather.

The food looked promising, but my stomach had a different opinion immediately afterwards. If you're looking for an unforgettable (and unpleasant) experience, you've come to the right place

I'm currently in the restaurant with my university excursion group from Tübingen. I ate the #46 peanut curry with crispy duck from the menu and that was the best Asian dish ever. The duck was super crispy and exceeded my expectations. I would come here again just for the court. I tried the vegan meat version from my friends. It wasn't bad by any means, but it wasn't my cup of tea. I'm excited to see how the dessert turns out... …..the baked banana was simply heavenly. I can only recommend it!

Probably the best Asian restaurant in Jena. The variety of vegan dishes is great and so far everything has tasted great. The drinks are also so nicely prepared. The service is attentive and courteous and everything happens very quickly. There are blankets outside on cold days but it's also so cozy inside, we especially liked the great lanterns. Super super beautiful!! Can only recommend it to everyone ☺️

The Vietnamese restaurant is a little more expensive than others, but in my opinion that is justified. It says a lot when all the tables are full on an early Wednesday evening. The competent service quickly arranged us for two free places. The map is nicely structured, even if the transparent paper notes seem rather snacky and in need of an update. The rest is correct: the ambience foregoes modernist influences and has a rustic, clichéd Vietnamese feel, but without falling into kitsch or trash. A good eye was particularly evident when selecting the lamps and lanterns. And what matters is that everything was done right when it came to eating. The “wok in hell” was subtly spicy, seasoned to perfection, and had absolutely nothing to do with hell. The portions are large and satisfy larger appetites, but the prices are extremely moderate.

Loved the vegan options and freshness

It was a day trip to Jena to visit a friend. The first thing we did after my arrival was lunch. I ordered a Red Roasted Duck Curry. It was not that red at the end but was spicy enough. I took the special lunch deal which is cheaper than their normal menu and also got an ice tea for free. The food was tasty for me atleast. Num num! The service was friendly and the atmosphere was enjoyable.
