Since a new owner took over a few years ago, the food there has been excellent. I always enjoy going there.

I can't understand the reviews; we were served very quickly and our delicious food was also served promptly. The cake and baklava for dessert are highly recommended! We'll definitely be back!

Nice ambiance on a charming street. The food looks appealing, but doesn't quite match the taste. The burger bun was too hard for my taste, and the patty was a bit too compact. The fries were creatively shaped, but unfortunately not crispy and lacked salt. I would have preferred more falafel and less avocado on the Elephant plate. Service: The cutlery was forgotten, and the beer was automatically served in a 0.5-liter size – without asking for the desired size. Overall, the price was a bit too high for the quality offered.

We ate burgers and fries. Everything was fresh and extremely tasty. The staff was very nice and accommodating. We felt completely comfortable and would love to come back!

We sat outside and were not served. No problem, we let them know after 10 minutes inside. Then we waited at least 45 minutes for two dishes, one of which arrived lukewarm. I then literally had to convince the waitress that a lukewarm tagine was not okay. Heating it up in the microwave took another 10 minutes. A very annoying experience, especially for the price.

Unfortunately a disappointment across the board: Super inattentive and slow service: we sat outside and probably wouldn't have been served at all if we hadn't drawn attention to ourselves. Drinks took a long time, food then took forever - we waited about three quarters of an hour without the waiter even checking on us or letting us know that it would take a while. One of two dishes was almost completely cold, although it was warmed up after discussion, but then it was no longer a highlight. When paying, the same tragedy happened again: there was simply no service, we had to let them know again and then wait another almost 10 minutes. Definitely not a recommendation from us, it was ultimately an expensive waste of time, just a bad experience.

The service is also very friendly, it only took a long time to respond when we wanted to pay, even though there were only a few guests there apart from us. The restaurant is now run by fellow citizens of Arabic origin. We ate breakfast there. All in all OK but nothing special. No German rolls included with the classic breakfast plate. Coffee must also be ordered separately.

Not recommended for breakfast. Orders are taken incorrectly and drinks are sometimes forgotten. However, the atmosphere is nice and cozy. Therefore recommended for a café in the morning.

Service and ambience were really nice. We sat outside and the alley has a nice charm. Unfortunately we didn't like the food. The fish was great, but the mashed potatoes tasted a lot like cheese and I couldn't finish it. The side dish was a simple leaf salad instead of the beetroot specified in the menu, and this change was not discussed or mentioned. The salad contained so many mint leaves that it would overwhelm any other flavor. The tagine was quite good, but very bland and really not something I would go to a restaurant for. The vegetables in it weren't quite cooked either. It's a shame...

While strolling, I passed the red elephant. The restaurant and its selection of dishes (there are also many vegan dishes) appealed to me from the outside. Nevertheless, I continued on. After exploring conservative alternatives, I turned around, followed my instinct, or its magical attraction, and entered. Because everything in the very open, attractively furnished guest room was full and reserved before 6 p.m., I was kindly asked to go to the first floor. The space here is also super appealing. I chose the tabbouleh salad, which was simply stunning, fantastic in terms of both taste and appearance, and everything was freshly prepared and reminded me of the Syrian original, because I first got to know tabbouleh from refugees. The vegan elephant plate was an almost unbelievable experience in terms of taste and appearance. He forced me to stop and enjoy. Wonderful! The cakes are also addictive (be careful!)! Most of the Arabic restaurants I've encountered so far, which are also good, can't hold a candle to the elephant. The staff is open and in a very good mood, noticeably cares about the well-being of the guests, gives good advice and everyone is super friendly people who obviously always keep an overview without any stress. So on the second day I already knew where I was going to eat and was able to confirm my first impression again (with other serving staff). I can only recommend the Red Elephant with a clear conscience in terms of atmosphere, appearance, hygiene and taste. NOTE 1*

We waited an hour and a half, but the food just wouldn't come. So we paid for the drinks and went somewhere for a kebab. The restaurant lets in more guests than the kitchen can handle. That's annoying - you could also see it in many other guests who, like us, waited forever.

Four people spontaneously came over for brunch on Saturday morning. There wasn't much going on yet, so we were able to choose the spot ourselves. It wasn't a problem at all that we had a dog with us. The service staff were extremely nice. There are a handful of breakfast options, from classic to oriental. The selection of drinks is quite large and leaves nothing to be desired. The plates were really beautifully presented - and the food was also extremely tasty! Just a small note: it took a while to receive the food we ordered. This didn't bother us at all as we wanted to have a leisurely breakfast. But it could be tight for a quick meal in between.

Absolutes Chaos! Bedienung nett aber überfordert, sehr lange Wartezeiten, 20-25 Minuten für unser Getränke und nochmal 50 Minuten aufs Essen. Gerichte sind teilweise sehr schmackhaft, teilweise fad. Viele frittierte Gerichte was schwimmt in Fett und Salat mit verschimmelten Blättern. Preis- Leistung ist beim machen Gericht sehr Fragwürdig! Dekoration und Ausstattung erinnert and einem Mischung von Flohmarkt trifft Orient. Was mich persönlich sehr genervt hat, das Geschirr und die Bestecke waren sehr fleckig und schmierig! Heute Tage sollte sowas dank Spülmaschine keine Problem sein!

Super delicious food - something for everyone, regardless of whether you want to eat meat or prefer vegan/vegetarian! Highly recommended is the vegan “elephant platter” with falafels and very good hummus as well as the vegan kibbeh. The staff is also very friendly. At the end we were given free baklava, which wasn't just a visual eye-catcher. We were definitely not there for the last time!

We spontaneously wanted to go to dinner today and chose the Red Elephant! If you like something unusual, this is definitely the right place for you! Although the portions were plentiful and the quality of the food was high, the prices were in the mid to high range. The café could do with some improvement here. Overall, it was a nice visit and we can definitely recommend the Kaffee Roter Elefant for a cozy breakfast. We hope that the price-performance ratio will be optimized somewhat in the future. The red elephant is a real culinary highlight in Erfurt. Centrally located, in a quiet side street. We had, among other things, the vegan “Red Elephant” platter – an absolute dream. The super nice service gave us perfect advice. You feel really comfortable straight away. We sat comfortably outside - but we also immediately liked the inside ambience. Be sure to stop by here when you are in Erfurt.

We were looking for a cozy, quiet atmosphere - and found it :) Very tasty, oriental food - wonderfully seasoned (handmade), with many vegan dishes :) Really recommended!!

Unfortunately, catastrophic service. Had reserved for 7 people for their birthday. We arrive, no room for us. Sent up and down again. Then luckily a table became available. Then we waited 1.5 hours for the starter. The drinks alone took forever. The food doesn't come together, but one person gets it, then you wait another 15 minutes. It's a shame, since you want to eat together. In addition, things were always missing. It's difficult to explain this to the waitress because she really doesn't speak any German or English. The food is good but for the price I expect a lot more in terms of taste and quantity. Everything has been eaten much better elsewhere. We also had a stone the size of a cotton swab in our food! When we paid we still had drinks on the bill that we never ordered. Unfortunately the whole thing was disappointing and I wouldn't go here again.

The vegetarian burger wasn't particularly good, the one with meat tasted okay, the burger buns were unfortunately cold and only the patty was warm. Fries (€6.90) with ketchup (€2.50) for almost 10 euros is a disgrace. The prices for the remaining dishes are also significantly too high. We waited over an hour for the food. I wouldn't recommend the restaurant.

Delicious, varied food at a slightly higher price. The "new" red elephant offers African - European fusion cuisine. The service was great, only the kitchen was a bit slow (1 hour 10 minutes on a Saturday evening). The rooms are beautifully designed with attention to detail and are not too noisy.

Unfortunately the food wasn't good. The vegetables were clearly warmed up - the same piece of mushroom very cold at one end and hot at the other end.... Ox cheeks with mashed potatoes quite boring (and I actually ordered a lamb shank, but it was probably written down incorrectly...). The hummus was extremely bland and the wines were completely overpriced. All in all, far too expensive for below average quality. A pity

Knappe Stunde Wartezeit auf eine Vorspeise. Sitzbereich im Erdgeschoss eher ungemütlich, Kellner freundlich aber leider unorganisiert. Blick in die Speisekarte macht ratlos, Burger 10 €, Steak ein hunderter, angeblich Wagyū-Rind. Dazu eine Flasche Wein im mittleren dreistelligen Bereich. Restaurant Können wir leider nicht empfehlen.

Visit on a Tuesday: Full house, so everything took a while to arrive. It took almost an hour for the food to arrive, but it was very tasty! Service and ambience were good. 👍🏼

We followed the advertising after the change of ownership. The service was friendly, if unfocused. The cause was apparently the obvious bad mood between the service ladies. We had to wait a good 1 1/2 hours for our food. Freshly cooked takes longer, but that was clearly too long. The oriental dishes were tasty and hot, the portions were rather small. The Erfurt burger had the right components, but unfortunately it was completely cold. It was still eaten in frustration after the long wait. At the end of the evening there was no question as to whether we were satisfied. You certainly knew why. For the rather simple and rustic atmosphere, the average service, the long waiting times and the manageable portions, the prices are quite high and do not justify themselves. Unfortunately we will no longer visit the restaurant.

The food is excellent and lots of it. The combination of spices was so unique. The teas are freshly prepared. It was a brilliant evening. The service was courteous and incredibly kind. Thanks :)

Don't let the Instagram video lure you (like we did) 😁. Were there yesterday, prices are a bit excessive, the map isn't really informative if you're there for the first time. I had the starter plate with 3 kibbeh, 4 fried dumplings and two more fried things that I couldn't identify, plus 4 dips (you don't know what they are exactly) and some baguette (18€) and we thought we had to wait 1 hour for it For a very long time, my friend had ox cheeks, which she said were good, but the price wasn't justified either. The waiter was very nice and apologized for the delay. There was a family with 2 children sitting at the next table, we ordered at about the same time and their food still hadn't come after an hour, so it's best not to go there with a hungry stomach and plan your time. For us it's nothing.

1. Reservation 1 month ago forgot to write down. So, although we were very cramped, we still managed to get a place. (The two tables opposite remained empty the whole evening even though they were supposedly reserved) 2. Map absolutely incomprehensible and selection very limited. 3. Every order was taken twice because something always didn't fit. 4. Waited about 2 hours for the food. 5. Burger unfortunately cold 6. The dishes apart from the ox cheeks weren't really particularly seasoned. 7. With 2x ozi there were 2x different things on the plate... and the ozi itself was 1x with and 1x without raisins 8.When paying, asked how you want to pay the tip. All in all, unfortunately we really didn't have a nice evening and probably won't go there again.

Five of us had dinner at the Red Elephant. Had an appetizer platter and kippeh beforehand. And then everyone has a main course. We all enjoyed the food very much. Some of the prices are a bit high but they are of good quality. Unfortunately we had to wait a long time for the starters, we were so hungry that we basically jumped on them. Since you had to come to the counter to pay, there was always a lot of hustle and bustle around our table.

Der Rote Elephant ist eine Institution in Erfurt. Seit Februar hat ein neues Team übernommen und setzt eigene Akzente. Die vorher stark an vegetarischer und nachhaltiger Kost orientierte Speisekarte zeigt sich mit orientalischen Leckereien aufgefrischt. Eine der liebgewonnenen Klassiker bleiben aber auch auf der Karte um der ausgeprägten Stammkundschaft weiterhin die gewünschten Leistungen bieten zu können. Das Ambiente wurde größtenteils übernommen. Gemütlich, rustikal - entspricht sehr dem Charakter einer gutbürgerlichen Kneipe/Gaststube. Das Team war am Abend unseres Besuches leider ein wenig unkoordiniert und wirkte aufgeregt. Da sie den Elephanten aber auch erst kürzlich übernommen haben, spielt sich das sicher noch ein. An Freundlichkeit mangelt es nicht. Die Speisekarte ist wie bereits gesagt eine Mischung aus einheimischen Klassikern und orientalischen Spezialitäten. Die Portionen sind in einer vernünftigen Größe. Das Baba Ganoush war sehr leicht gewürzt und hätte mehr Bums vertragen können. Auch die anderen Speisen ließen es ein wenig an Raffinesse vermissen. Die Wartezeiten waren andererseits überschaubar. Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis ist in Ordnung, kein Highlight.

I heard that the actual chef had just become a father and was therefore absent from time to time, which would explain the few negative reviews here. But now he's back and doing excellent work as ever :)

Diverse cuisine. Greatly prepared. Ate steak. Just a dream.

We became aware of this extraordinary restaurant through Instagram and were unfortunately disappointed. The service was a bit chaotic right from the start and we had to wait over an hour for our food. Despite the higher prices, nothing special in terms of taste. The dishes are also not described in detail on the menu.

Thanks to Instagram and a great video, we curiously reserved a table at the Red Elephant. I highly recommend the homemade citrus mint lemonade, but we had to wait over an hour for our food and the service was unstructured. The explanations of the dishes on the menu were very brief. My dish had half the plate filled with tomato and cucumber salad, which wasn't mentioned. It's a shame if you don't like one of them. Basically my dish (Ozi) was ok and the dip tasted good. The dishes were all a bit more expensive. The concept in the restaurant should be revised again. Unfortunately we won't be going there anymore.

Four of us went there for dinner. The tables are very small (about 90 cm long), so it was difficult to sit comfortably with 4 people. One had the feeling that as many tables as possible should be accommodated. The service was quite quick. Unfortunately, we waited over an hour for our cold starter platter for €19.50 and were kept put off. The taste was okay, but in our opinion it was completely overpriced. The main course, we had a burger, was unfortunately only lukewarm and the patty was completely fried. A pity

Due to the good reviews and after the change of ownership, we tested the restaurant. The food was generally okay and nicely presented, but definitely not a highlight. The hummus was very bland, the tofu in the banana leaf was also rather tasteless. The vegan tagine saved it in terms of taste, although it was a little overpriced for the contents. There was a misunderstanding with the service with the starter, we specifically asked for vegan kibbeh on the starter platter, we got kibbeh with meat and vegan kibbeh extra (at the normal price)...we mentioned this straight away and it was rather annoying Lack of understanding. We should first cut the kibbeh open and see what's inside... These were also included on the bill, but when asked, they grumpily removed them. For the starter there was also a “typical” baguette, instead of pita, flatbread, lavash,... We didn't understand that. Price-performance was a bit over. All in all, no recommendation at all.

Today I ate at the “Roter Elephant” restaurant. Unfortunately, I have to honestly say that it was a failure. I found out about the restaurant through Instagram. The food looked really good on Instagram. I had reserved a table, initially didn't know the conditions and was very unfriendly. Afterwards she offered us a table. I live in Berlin and was visiting Erfurt. I have to say that the service staff were very unfriendly, so of course I didn't pay a tip. The restaurant has a good chef, but the surrounding area was really bad. It's honestly the worst restaurant I've been to recently and I eat out a lot and visit different restaurants. Unfortunately I have no recommendation at all. I won't eat there a second time.

Apparently the owner changed. We had a weird experience with the service, as they tried to provide reasons why staying might not the best idea, like kitchen is closing, bar is about to make a break and so on. After they couldn't accept a tip via card, and I didn't have any cash, they were not even able to return our goodbyes. Sorry, but there's a lot of better opportunity in Erfurt.

Basically the food was delicious. Unfortunately, the processes don't work at all. The waitress tried very hard, but unfortunately was overwhelmed. For her protection - she was alone (with an assistant) and the restaurant was full. However, it is not possible for the dishes not to be served together so that the first person has finished eating before the last person has had their meal. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio is also not right. So currently - unfortunately - no recommendation.

We wanted to try this restaurant because of the good reviews. Unfortunately, it was an almost complete failure. It's open at lunchtime, but only a fraction of the menu is available to choose from. I had a burger that basically wouldn't have been bad had it not been FLOODED in a yellowish, cheese-like sauce. I should have taken a picture, it looked like the chef had dropped the lid while spraying it. Nobody believes that. Also very expensive. And only cold water in the toilet. This is of course really great in winter.

We wanted to try out the new owner in the red elephant, the food was very tasty and freshly prepared, the drinks came quickly and the entire evening was very nice. We will definitely come back!!! 🤩

The restaurant changed ownership a few weeks ago. The map has also changed accordingly. There are some oriental dishes on the menu. The main meal was very tasty. The food is beautifully prepared. Unfortunately the dessert (cake) was moldy. Can happen. The service was alone in the restaurant and took a very long time.

Köstliche orientalische Gerichte, aber auch regionale Fleisch- und Fischgerichte! Alles mit frischen Zutaten super zubereitet! Ein kulinarischesr Gewinn für Erfurt! Und der Service sehr freundlich und nett! Sehr gerne bald wieder!

Top³!!! Bewertungen schreiben wir normalerweise nicht so oft... meist ist man dazu geneigt, wenn etwas besonders schlecht oder etwas besonders gut war.. Hier definitiv das Letztere .. Zuvorkommende Bedienung und ein gemütliches Ambiente - Mitten in Erfurt. Die Karte in einer auf den ersten Blick gewagten Kombination aus orientalischer und traditioneller Thüringer Küche. Wir haben beides probiert: Kibbeh und Oberweißbacher Ochsenbäckchen - absolute Geschmacks-Highlights und liebevoll angerichtet!!! Nach Wechsel des bisherigen Restaurant-Konzepts ein echter Geheimtipp.. wahrscheinlich nicht mehr so lange. Vielen Dank!!

Lecker essen, sehr interessant. Weine sind leider etwas hochpreisig, weiß nicht ob das angemessen ist. Wo wir leben wäre das Niveau nicht zu halten.

Leider trotz Reservierung des Hauses verwiesen worden, da wohl großes Chaos in der Organisation.

Das lokal ist absolut unterirdisch Service total überlastet unfreundlich und getränke werden auf den Tisch geknallt kein bitte kein danke essen war auch nach 1,5 Stunden nicht da deswegen keine Bewertung über essen habe mein bier bezahlt nie mehr wieder !!!!!vielen dank für die schnelle Antwort ich bin wirklich froh das ich nicht mehr zu ihnen kommen muss und sie haben die beste Werbung viel erfolg

Essen war gut aber leider kalt und der Service ist unterirdisch. Man wird nach dem bezahlen beleidigt obwohl die Bedienungen voll kommen überfordert sind. Das Bier wird einem auf den Tisch geknallt und es gibt kein bitte oder sonst irgendwas. Ein absolutes No-Go. Es Zeugt von einem niedrigen Niveau was sie als Besitzer darunter schreiben. Keine Angst wir kommen nie wieder,aber so findet man keine neue Kundschaft weiter so.
