Romantik Waldhotel Mangold in Bergisch Gladbach

Very nice, idyllic hotel. Parts of the hotel are a bit old. But everything was clean and tidy. Nice owner and very friendly breakfast staff. We had a classic room and were very satisfied with the furnishings and size.

Had a great weekend, would love to come back, service was great!

We booked an overnight stay at the Romantik Waldhotel Mangold for Valentine's Day, combined with a visit to the Mediterranean spa. This highlight is offered by the hotel. And what can I say? It was a unique experience. The Mediterranean thermal spa boasts 16 saunas, several restaurants, and delicious cuisine. You can enjoy alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails and other treats, or relax on a variety of loungers. You can also book various massages, making for an unforgettable day. In the evening, we drove to the nearby hotel (1.6 km) and enjoyed an exceptionally delicious three-course meal. The chef is simply fantastic. The hotel is not far from Cologne, but you're in complete peace and quiet there. A breakfast buffet rounded off our visit. Our four-legged friends are also warmly welcome and well looked after. We highly recommend the hotel and its friendly staff.

I highly recommend this hotel and the restaurant. I can't comment on the rooms; we stayed in the attached RV park. However, if you're in the mood for some fine dining, this is a great place to stay. The ambiance is just right, and the chef is truly talented. The dishes are all handmade and lovingly prepared. I've never tasted such a good sorbet. It's worth it for that alone. They also cater to special requests. Especially in our case. 😉

A very nice hotel with a family atmosphere. We felt very comfortable. Service was great - every wish was fulfilled. Highly recommended as an event with the MEDITERANER sauna voucher! (4-point room only, as there was a bathtub without a shower option [no glass wall, etc.])

Price-performance ratio good. You felt very comfortable thanks to the staff/owner. We'll be back.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! Stayed here for 8 days. Clean rooms, very quiet and peaceful! Breakfast area had everything I needed and was asked each morning if I would like eggs, how many, and how did I want the prepared. Maybe I am just tired of the sterile corporate atmosphere of every other motel chain I have been in but this motel staff made this place a home for me. I enjoyed the actual human interaction with the staff and the way I was treated. Restaurant food was AMAZING! When my wife arrive at day 5 she asked if we could stay the next 3 days while we toured Cologne. LOVE THIS PLACE!!!

Driven by the good reviews, we made a reservation for the weekend and a visit to the nearby sauna and thermal spa world at the “Romantic Hotel” Mangold. It wasn't until we arrived that we realized that "Romance" only stands for the name of a chain, because the room assigned to us had little to do with romance. We were accommodated on the 2nd floor of the hotel's annex building ("in the south wing"), which in the past seemed to have been a kind of nurses' dormitory or former accommodation for hotel staff, or at least that was the atmosphere. There is no elevator. When we arrived in the room, we were initially greeted by an unpleasant smell and then the unpleasant overall composition of the room as such. An old armchair, an old table, the room itself is quite small and half of the bed is behind a niche where the daylight doesn't fall, everything carelessly put together. The bathroom, in contrast, is the complete opposite. Walk-in shower, bright, modern, as you wish. I'm not usually like that, but in this case I dared to complain to reception. We were given the opportunity to look at another room, which also took some getting used to, but was at least significantly brighter. However, after we were told that we had to pay another 20 EUR per night for this room, we simply didn't care. The fact that the shower money in the bathroom ran out with the first shower and the bulb in a bedside lamp was defective just fit into the picture. I then replaced the bulb myself with the one on the worn little table. The breakfast is ok, but nothing more. At least there is a fresh egg dish that you can choose from every morning. The internet, on the other hand, was really great for a hotel WiFi. Overall very disappointing. We paid 360 EUR for two nights, so 180 EUR per night. If we had known what awaited us in the 4* "Romantik" Hotel Mangold, we would have preferred to pay another 50 EUR per night and stay at the nearby Grand Hotel. What we expected had very little to do with the pictures displayed for the room category we booked. Certainly fine for conference guests and trade fair visitors. But anything but “romantic” for a couple’s visit.

Actually a very nice hotel, but in need of renovation... Broken doors, TV only worked 1 channel, broken lamps, heating doesn't work, shower water runs onto the tiles/leaking shower. Breakfast was good. I expect a little more from a 4-star hotel...

Great fine dining, professional team! Beautiful location, in the countryside, close to the forest. Small-scale events can be celebrated well there. You can sit outside. Reasonable price-performance ratio.

An ideal location for meetings and excellent cuisine

We were there for the confirmation. A fantastic hall for the entire family. We'd love to come back.

Unfortunately I was only there for one night. Very quiet hotel within walking distance of the castle and a forest (perfect for a walk). The facilities and rooms are partly old, but in good condition. Rooms very clean and comfortably furnished. Breakfast was varied and there was enough of everything. E-charging station (Type C) at the house. Extremely friendly and service-oriented manager with whom you can have interesting conversations (always in a good mood). I felt very comfortable and would be happy to come back at any time. But then longer.

I posted a two star review a year ago. Today I received a complaint and query from a lawyer via Google. I was a guest in the hotel with my partner from January 1st to 2nd, 2023 and can prove this. My review was fair and accurate. I have reported the positive and negative aspects and my impression has not changed. It was supposed to be a surprise for him and I was disappointed.

The two of us spent the Mediterana weekend. It was a very nice stay. The breakfast leaves nothing to be desired, the room was spacious and very quiet. The owner and the staff are very friendly and made the stay enjoyable.

We had a great stay in this very clean, cozy and quiet hotel. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The kitchen in the associated restaurant is in a league of its own - absolutely recommended! However, we would have liked a kettle in the room so we could make tea. We would like to come again!

The first phone calls with Mr. Mangold were super nice and accommodating, which was absolutely confirmed on site: a cheerful, uncomplicated owner with a good sense of humor as well as professional advice regarding Mediterana and in the evenings with dinner and matching wine. We would love to come back here.
