Romantik Hotel Schloss Rheinfels in Sankt Goar

An incredibly impressive hotel and a wonderfully charming and extremely ambitious hotel manager! The owners clearly live and breathe this hotel. A dream location and a gem inside and out. We'll definitely be back!

This was our third time staying at Rheinfels Castle, and we always enjoy coming back. I miss the Ripp family, but the restaurant staff are the same ones who were part of the castle back then. We were there last weekend, Friday to Sunday. The spa, restaurant, and breakfast buffet were all top-notch as always. This time, the room in the villa was simply amazing, and the view of the Rhine was unbeatable. St. Goar is very beautiful, and despite the train, boats, and traffic, it's very peaceful.

A beautiful hotel in a unique location with very nice, considerate staff who provide excellent service.

I wish if lift goes to all floors. Since I had carry up heavy luggages by steps from ground to the 1st floor and another steep steps ffom the highest floor for the lift on the 3rd floor to upper floor where the room was located, I twisted and injured my knee. Not serious I hope, but may take time to recover. Everything else was wonderful. Very good accommodation.

We spent three nights at the hotel. The entire property is very well maintained, and the location is excellent especially during meals, as the view of the Rhine is absolutely stunning. The spa area is on the smaller side. There are only four loungers in the pool area, and the sauna is also a bit small. The rooms aren’t extraordinary, but they are clean and well kept. The food menu is not extensive but everything we tried was very tasty. For a longer stay this could become a bit limiting, unless you don’t mind ordering the same dishes again. The staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive. Overall, I can definitely recommend this hotel for a short getaway.

We had a wonderful weekend there. We received a very warm welcome at reception and a complimentary room upgrade. Our room was spacious and had a fantastic view. The restaurant served a delicious dinner, and breakfast was also very good. We treated ourselves to a massage in the spa area, and the sauna was wonderful. It was a fantastic stay with everything we needed. Thank you to all the staff.

Fantastic views, good food, and a cozy spa area. Unfortunately, the castle tavern is closed for the winter, and dinner in the restaurant was relatively expensive. But overall, very relaxing and highly recommended for a restorative holiday!

A great hotel and restaurant in St. Goar on the Rhine. The room was large, clean, and modernly furnished. The view of the Rhine was beautiful, thanks to the hotel's elevated location on the hill. There is no elevator in the main building, so there are many stairs. The restaurant offers a well-balanced menu and a very wide selection of drinks. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very cozy. The food was fresh and delicious. The drinks were cold and served quickly. The staff was very friendly and helpful and even accommodated special requests. There is ample parking available at the hotel.

Everything was great, I'd gladly come again.

We had a fantastic weekend at Hotel Schloss Rheinfels in St. Goar! We were especially impressed by the spa area – the massages and facials were simply heavenly. The staff were incredibly welcoming and truly pampered us. The entire hotel is very clean and comfortable, and the view is breathtaking. The service was attentive and friendly throughout, and the hotel restaurant offers delicious meals and breakfasts. We enjoyed every minute. Highly recommended!

The rooms were very clean, and the hotel itself is designed with many details reminiscent of the adjacent castle. We felt a few things were missing to justify the price, such as lighting on the stairs so you're not standing in the dark when you get out of the elevator. We were also rather disappointed with the spa area because the steam function in the outdoor sauna didn't work despite several attempts, and the noisy ventilation in the indoor sauna didn't help us relax. Breakfast was good, but nothing special in our opinion.

Not recommended for families with children Anyone traveling with children should avoid this hotel. In my experience, it's not a family-friendly place, but rather quite unfriendly. The food is decent to good, but the overall experience suffers significantly when guests get the impression that they aren't welcome with children. We were repeatedly told that our children were supposedly too loud. The spa area and swimming pool are only open to children under 16 until 4 p.m., which is understandable in principle. However, we were treated very rudely there as early as 1 p.m., even though the children simply wanted to splash around. Overall, it seems as if the hotel prefers not to accept families for the sake of other guests' peace and quiet. In this case, it would be more honest to reject booking requests with children from the outset.

An impressive ruin surrounds a beautiful hotel with a magnificent view of the Rhine. The service and dinner were excellent. It was hard to say goodbye, but I'd love to come back.

Perfect location, exceptional facility

If you'd like to sleep in a castle, this is definitely the right hotel. The torture chamber 😉 the fitness room – it's still in working order. There's even a punching bag with gloves. The wellness area had to be adapted due to historic preservation regulations and is quite small. It can certainly get cramped here if the weather is bad. The relaxation room is far from the rest of the hotel. The restaurant is very nice. The three-course dinner was a delight, the view was dreamy, and the service was very good and especially friendly. The rooms are a bit dated. Unfortunately, our bathroom didn't have a window and was quite small.

Short stay while passing through on a motorcycle. A short-notice booking of a beautiful attic room was handled without any bureaucracy on the same day of arrival. Arrival at the hotel, information, garage for the motorbike – everything was perfect – professional and very pleasant. Dinner – very fine and great service, including expert wine advice... The wellness area was equally wonderful and soothing late in the evening. I'd love to come back.... Keep up the great work everyone at the hotel – a fantastic team... From the reception desk to the service at breakfast and dinner, room service, and sauna service, the entire experience is professional and unpretentious. The surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for every type of vacation.

We find the rooms and the hotel overall very nice, but with numerous drawbacks. Great view from the outside terrace. The breakfast is fantastic...sparkling wine is missing. The minibar/room is empty. The hotel bar was also closed in the evening, and there's nowhere nearby to stop for a drink...everything's closed. We can criticize: The expensive dinner, for example. Despite the starter, bread basket (okay), main course, side salad, and cheese platter (everyone), none of us were full. The landlady said there's no taxi service from St. Goar. A scheduled bus runs up and down right in front of the door every 30 minutes. The climb is long and steep, not for people with sore feet or disabilities! There are plenty of parking spaces at the top, free for hotel guests. The train station is also easily accessible. There's also a boat dock down in the village. The wellness area is the same...a relaxation room is accessible via numerous steps to the basement via the outdoor area. I would have moved the changing rooms and treatment rooms to the basement, since they don't need to be in constant rotation. The indoor pool was max 22 degrees (brrrrrrrr) The shower water was leaking...the lever mixer! There are only four loungers in the indoor pool. Children are allowed until 4 p.m. Great...since you want to get ready for dinner at 5 p.m. Apart from booking expensive treatments, several days of wellness in the winter are not really recommended. At least there is free fruit, fruit water, and teas. Unfortunately, wellness is not a protected term in Germany!

The beds are dreamy. The view from the restaurant is picture-perfect.

The best hotel in the area. The location is top-notch. One minor drawback is the empty minibar in the room. Why aren't there any drinks in the refrigerator? When we placed our order, one waitress dismissed us with the words, "I don't have time right now!" The very friendly manner of the other waitresses made up for this. It would be nice if there were a cozy bar in the main building where we could end the evening.

The breakfast was fine, as was the room. What was very strange was that the room wasn't cleaned after two nights, nor were the towels.

Hotel located in the Castle area

We went there for coffee and a piece of cake. The service was friendly and the cake was delicious, but the coffee would have been more flavorful with oat milk. Unfortunately, they didn't have any oat milk. Still, a good restaurant with a fantastic view.

We extended the room we booked by one day yesterday. Unfortunately, I had to cancel this morning for health reasons. Cold fish upset my stomach and intestines. But we still have to pay 80 percent.

The rooms were very clean, everything was very well maintained, the breakfast was extensive, and the food was very good quality and deliciously prepared. The staff was professional and helpful.

Breakfast was scarce, no eggs, no fruit, no water, takes 30 min for them to refill anything. No natural water, get yelled at for trying to drink or ask for anything at breakfast. Castle closed, was not notified as we are with a large group specifically for the castle when we all booked. Bar closes very early. Would not recommend. There are plenty of other nice places with friendly good service than here.

We stayed for three days at the festival, so we only got to enjoy a fraction of the hotel's amenities. We had a room in Villa Rheinfels with a large balcony and a magnificent view of the Loreley and the Rhine. The room, with a double bed, safe, refrigerator, kettle, and a large bathroom with a combined bathtub/shower, was spacious and bright. The furnishings were in keeping with the overall building, which is a listed historic monument. Breakfast was plentiful, fresh, and appealing. Fresh salmon served daily and delicious, homemade, really fresh strawberry jam. Incredibly beautiful views included. The small but perfectly formed wellness area, lovingly run, was used intensively every morning. The "fitness room" (affectionately called the torture chamber) is very creatively designed with cable pulleys, a rowing machine, and a yoga mat. Probably more of a joke for fitness gurus, but I thought the idea was really great. The staff in all areas were very friendly and accommodating. There's nothing to complain about. Of course, if you're looking for something, you'll find something to bother you, but that would be nitpicking at a high level. We felt completely at home and were able to relax despite a strenuous three days. Thanks to the friendly team. I particularly appreciated the service after check-out. I had left a stuffed animal, which was very important to me emotionally, in the bed. A call the next day and Nobody was gently awakened and is now on his way home by mail. Thanks again to the team for this fantastic service. Conclusion: This historic hotel is definitely worth a visit. If you want to be treated like a lord and damsel of a castle, this hotel is highly recommended.

Comfortable and characterized by friendly professionalism.

Admittedly, the weather was very summery. The lack of air conditioning is understandable in such a historic building. But a fan in the room and a parasol on the terrace would hardly be a luxury. In the evenings, we always ate in the panoramic restaurant. It was, without a doubt, excellent. The service was always friendly and attentive, unlike the lady at the reception in the restaurant.

Hi, we were there for a week to hike and visit the beautiful castles, which was great from there. The staff was friendly and attentive. The prices at the Burkschänke (restaurant) were okay. The rooms don't have air conditioning. Free parking is available in front of the gate. The beds were far too soft and the shower a bit small. The spa area was okay, but I would have liked more organization and staff there occasionally (in the evenings), as some parents didn't follow the rules regarding noise and children's hours, which meant there was no time to relax.

A great facility. The room was tastefully furnished, with a balcony offering a stunning view over the Rhine. The only downsides were the safe, which I couldn't get to fly despite repeated attempts following the brief instructions, and the toilet was so low that it required a certain amount of athletic skill to use it. Considering the very attractive room, this doesn't deduct any points. The fitness room, decorated as a torture chamber, is a show. The pool is a wonderful place to cool off. The service was excellent, from check-in to departure. The four-course menu was delicious, although considering the quality of the hotel, I would have expected a bit more flair. Overall, a clear recommendation.

The location of the castle is unique and the handling of a complaint was very good

The room was okay, but the mattress was awful; you slept in a hollow. The same goes for the toilet. Very low and narrow, you had to tuck your shoulders in. On the first evening, I ordered beef fillet for €41. Two small, mushy potato patties, two small pieces of meat, and chanterelle mushrooms. When asked if everything was okay, I said the meat was very stringy and I'd return one piece. No response. Not good for the price and for a 4-star hotel. Breakfast was okay, but nothing more. You were full. Supermarket cold cuts, etc. When checking out, we were charged an energy surcharge, even though we had already paid via Check24. My husband was celebrating his 80th birthday there, and I had asked for a candle and a flower for the reserved table. The table was decorated with a wilted flower. The view from both restaurants is simply beautiful and worth the stars.

This is our fifth stay. Unfortunately, you can no longer sleep with your dog in the main house, but only in the adjacent villa. It's very nice and tastefully decorated, though.

Reception and service were very friendly. The restaurant's dress code is sure to please everyone in the evening. The rooms are very comfortable, and the ambiance is inviting. The restaurant offers a view of the water. A wonderful silhouette in the evening.

A breath-taking view and a perfect get-away along the Rhine River. The hotel majestically sits on the hill in St. Goar. I love the history tied to the entire premises - a once disputed castle now transformed into a beautiful hotel and museum. Every area is well maintained and cleverly upgraded to ensure comfort. There is a museum right next door that's accessible all week(with the fees paid in cash). My husband and I were well received by the staff. My appreciation to Lan (from the restaurant team) who had some lovely stories and special kudos to Jessica who gave excellent advise on which cruise we could take along the Rhine. You can start the day early and choose a full day cruise or simply take the 1 hour final option to Boppard. St Goar as a town is quaint with several shops, ice cream parlours and historical sites such as the world's biggest hanging cockoo-clock. You can easily navigate the town by foot or choose to connect to the hotel/museum via Bus 671 or 672. Area of improvement: Your cleaning team could make extra rounds to ensure rooms are cleaned in time or not skipped.

The food was good, the service seemed a little tired, but very friendly! The view of the Rhine and the landscape across the street was fantastic!

After the change of ownership, we were unfortunately disappointed. The hotel itself has a lot of potential and a stunning location directly above the Rhine, but the service is unfortunately no longer what it used to be. We used to come here often for brunch or to use the sauna area, but this was then discontinued for non-hotel guests. Brunch is now available again, but it's not as good as it used to be and is also significantly more expensive. Even when we inquired about lunch there for our wedding, we were only sent a menu upon request, with no prices at all.

Nice clean rooms and a breakfast that is truly amazing

The location on the grounds of historic Rheinfels Castle is simply magnificent 🤩! A unique ambiance. We'd often read in previous reviews about shortcomings in the staff and service. We couldn't agree more with our stay! Immediately after checking in at the reception, the friendly staff member rushed outside to carry our luggage up the stairs to the elevator! After returning from a concert at the Loreley, we were served a drink in the restaurant shortly before 1:00 a.m. Everyone was very attentive, friendly, and accommodating - definitely 5 stars 👍🏻 The breakfast was also at 4-star superior level - a good selection of cheeses, good baked goods, and very good coffee; it was constantly freshly refilled, so even guests arriving later still had plenty to choose from. The wellness area is certainly a bit dated. Nevertheless, there was a pleasant, clean pool area with pleasantly warm water. The panoramic sauna is also very nice, although the automatic steaming device is a bit slow... Beautiful outdoor area, nicely planted, all with a unique panorama. The standard room was simple, but without any major flaws (the safe didn't work 100%). Sleep quality was good, and the soundproofing wasn't particularly bad. Plenty of parking is available and is provided free of charge to guests. Overall, a very positive stay at this very special place 🫶👍🏻

We booked the castle experience again, and as always, we felt completely at home from the very first moment. There's such a warm atmosphere everywhere; everything is simply beautiful: great service, very nice rooms, delicious food, lovingly prepared, a beautiful Rhine terrace, and views of the Rhine from the restaurant as well. We spent one night there and were absolutely thrilled. The staff is super friendly and does everything to make you feel comfortable. In the evening, we ate in the restaurant and even got a table by the window – with a beautiful view of the Rhine, Katz Castle, and a few vineyards. Since we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, we were even offered a private room – we didn't take advantage of it, but the gesture was really thoughtful and sweet. We opted for the 5-course menu – and it was simply fantastic. The flavor was amazing and beautifully presented. The service was also excellent: friendly, attentive, and with a good sense of timing. We especially liked that they asked us if we wanted a break before the main course – you don't experience that often. The next morning, there was a delicious breakfast (from 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.) with everything you could need – fresh rolls, fruit, cheese, cold cuts, sweets, and hot dishes. Beautifully presented, with great attention to detail, and once again, very friendly service. All in all, a great stay that we will definitely remember fondly!

Unfortunately, our visit to the restaurant at Schloss Rheinfels in St. Goar was a huge disappointment. After being seated, we had to wait about 20 minutes before anyone even took our drink order. Another 15 minutes later, the drinks finally arrived. The wait continued with the meal: After 45 minutes, the food arrived – but my schnitzel was completely missing. They promised to bring it back "quickly," but another 20 minutes later, a half-cooked schnitzel arrived, still raw and red inside. After I complained, it was "recooked," which apparently meant it was completely over-fried – resulting in a tough, dry shoe sole. Unfortunately, not only was there a lack of organization, but also a lack of quality and customer service. For a restaurant in such a location and with such prices, this is unacceptable. We will definitely not be coming back.

People with a migration background are not welcome. Very unfriendly management! I received a massage as a gift. The lady at the massage had mixed something up, so we had to clarify it at the reception. We were treated very unfriendly there! I can't recommend the hotel! The "suite" was also very old-fashioned.

Vi fikk ikke bord ute som vi ønsket selv om det var ledig. Vi fikk bestilt drikke men ble helt oversett da vi ønsket å bestille mat. Vi gikk derfra uten å spise og da vi skulle betale forsøkte han å ta betalt for dyrere drikke en vi hadde bestilt. Overlegne sure keldnere.

Bei Ankunft um 14:30 Uhr mussten wir sofort für die beiden Nächte bezahlen, das ist uns noch nie untergekommen, das Zimmer erhielten wir allerdings nicht, es war strikt erst um 15 Uhr fertig. Wir haben aber auch mit bekommen, dass andere Gäste das Zimmer sofort erhielten und nicht voraus zahlen mussten. Ja , wir wären sicher auch besser mit unserem Porsche vorgefahren, aber wir laden das Auto nicht draußen parken, deshalb sind wir eben mit einem unserer anderen Autos gekommen. Es ging aber noch weiter, die Dame an der Rezeption sagte uns, es würden keine Busse zum Konzert fahren, die wären alle ausgebucht, der Weg zu Fuß ist zu weit, das stimmte, 5 km steil den Berg hinauf. Sie machte viele Leute im Hotel deswegen verrückt und die Konsequenz war , dass viele das glaubten und mit dem Auto mit der Fähre hinüber gefahren sind und ein einziges Chaos entstanden ist bei Konzertende . Übrigens sind wir einfach rüber gefahren und bekamen auch sofort das Ticket für den Bus . Wer die Dame wohl gekauft hatte ? Das Taxiunternehmen ?

The room is beautifully located with a stunning view of the river, just as we had imagined. The food is excellent, and the service is also outstanding. We felt very comfortable.

We actually wanted to have a drink on the castle terrace! Neither of the two waiters spoke to us within 10 minutes, even though they saw us! I'm used to service differently! We then decided to leave!

The location is very nice. The restaurant (when open) is quite good. Unfortunately, it's closed on Pentecost.

Wonderful view from the room, very nice spa with, among other things, a great outdoor sauna with a view of the Rhine and very nice and original furnishings, very nice restaurant with excellent food and corresponding accompanying wines from the area - we were completely satisfied and would be happy to come back!

Check in was very professional and accommodating. The location and view from the terrace are simply magnificent. The service on the terrace was attentive and friendly. The service at the sumptuous breakfast was quite arrogant. Some things are due to the structural conditions, e.g. very small bathroom. But that's no justification for the two totally worn out chairs in the room (probably recycled from the restaurant). The mattresses were also very worn out, i.e. hammock level. Hotel beds in deepest Africa are worlds better (e.g. Interconti in Nairobi or Hilton in Sudan). The toilet is mounted so low that you almost have your knees under your chin. Overall, unworthy of a 4 star hotel. If that is the advertised Lohbeck quality standard, well. Too bad, won't come back.

After 15 days of vacation at the Schlosshotel Rheinfels, we unfortunately “had to” leave again. We would have loved to stay longer. Many thanks to all employees. They are a really great team. Beautiful location, excellent facilities and friendly staff. I travelled by bike with my family and they offered us a locked place to store the bikes overnight which is a big plus. The view from the restaurant and the terrace is stunning. Highly recommended!

Top location and fantastic views. Employees mostly friendly. I would have expected a little more sophistication from the breakfast buffet. But everything you needed was there. The rooms in the villa are definitely in need of renovation. The wellness area is small but nice. The employees at the Rheinterasse were extremely friendly. Absolutely recommended for a short stay.

Location location location! The view of the Rhine from the room was sensational. Otherwise: The room was ok, but there was no mini-bar, which I find inappropriate in a 4-star hotel. The staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast was “good” in terms of selection and quality. Location location location! If you don't just want to look at the place, but also do something/stroll there, you have to walk steeply down from the hotel and up again using quite a lot of stairs. Keeps you fit...

I spent a short vacation in this hotel and experienced excellent service, always friendly and courteous staff and a wonderful feel-good atmosphere. The hotel is tastefully decorated and the style fits in very well with the castle ruins. The food in the restaurant is highly recommended. The breakfast is rich and the dinner leaves nothing to be desired. Here I could also rely very well on the recommendations of the staff. The impressive view from the panoramic window rounded off the enjoyment for me. This hotel is highly recommended.

Great hotel, great service, great breakfast. A glass of champagne for breakfast would be the cherry on top. I wish there was a slightly better selection for dinner, but that's complaining at a high level. We'll be back.

A very nice hotel on the Rhine with a fantastic view of the “Maus” and “Katz” castles. We chose the hotel for our honeymoon weekend and stayed there in the junior suit. The suite looked exactly like the pictures and we were not disappointed. The Happiness package did exactly what it promised with the 4 and 5 course menu. The whole thing was rounded off by the friendly staff. We will definitely come back again.

In a beautiful setting you can e.g. Spend a relaxing weekend in the vineyards. Very nice service and great food. Definitely worth a stay.

The hotel is just really nice. Great wellness and delicious food. The view from the restaurant is unique.
