It was another wonderful stay at the Kieler Kaufmann! The rooms are spacious, stylishly furnished, and the view is breathtaking! Breakfast overlooks the Kiellinie. The buffet is extensive, imaginative, and delicious. The staff is super friendly! The spa area with pool and sauna is well-maintained and lovely! We spontaneously extended our stay for another night. There's plenty of parking on site, and the location is beautiful! Our dog was with us, which was no problem at all. Thank you! We look forward to our next visit!

After changing rooms immediately after our arrival, we had the quiet double room we requested. Breakfast is very good. It's a shame there's no sparkling wine for breakfast. The wellness area is very nice and clean.

We spent three extremely pleasant nights at the Hotel Kieler Kaufmann. Our room was spacious, quiet, and offered a high level of comfort. The hotel's own restaurant, "Kaufmannsladen," deserves special mention, with its excellent cuisine. The breakfast also left nothing to be desired: a diverse selection, all freshly prepared and of excellent quality. The hotel's location is ideal—the Kiel Fjord is just a few minutes' walk away. The service was consistently attentive, professional, and courteous. As a couple, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can wholeheartedly recommend the hotel.

Good hotel with a beautiful location. Very friendly staff and a good, plentiful breakfast. The breakfast buffet layout could be improved so that everyone doesn't get in each other's way. The room was outrageously expensive at the time we stayed, at around €250 per night. But we had little choice, as we were hosting an event at the hotel. The showers are very slippery. ⚠ Danger of falling.

The Hotel Kieler Kaufmann is beautifully situated near the Düsternbrook Forest. My stay there was wonderful, and I would gladly book it again anytime.

Abysmal receptionist. Zero empathy or enthusiasm for the job, especially for the guest. Simply "not possible - we don't offer it." Not a single word of regret that the guest's request couldn't be fulfilled. I was happy to cancel the €800 suite.

Beautiful location & great service (very friendly staff at all stations). We had a little time before Kiel Week to test out the pool and outdoor loungers. The beautiful garden is a dream come true. The room was great, with a lovely view of the garden.

A beautifully located hotel. Overall, it was excellent. But the room was neglected. The curtain was partially torn from its rail. The shower curtain in the bathroom was also torn. Three nights without room service. The pleasant outweighed the negatives. The charm, commitment, and quality of the staff and the cuisine were exceptional. That's how we experienced it from previous stays. And that's how it was this time too. Therefore, it's still highly recommended. Unfortunately, only one room wasn't. No housekeeper?

Beautifully located hotel. It doesn't get any better in Kiel! Unfortunately, the rooms don't live up to their promise: horribly worn mattresses, very cheap bedding, and outdated bathrooms disappointed us. The food at Ahlmanns is truly first-class. However, the service was a total failure in our experience, which put a damper on everything. The bar is also highly recommended. P.S. The manager of the hotel handled our complaint professionally. That's not something you can take for granted these days, and it made us feel better overall.

In Kiel, I always enjoy staying at the Kieler Kaufmann because everything is perfect there. And if something goes wrong, which is only human, they make a lot of effort to fix it. I highly recommend this hotel!

I loved every bit of this stay in this hotel. Check in was swift and friendly. The wish to have a quiet room was taken into consideration and we ended up in a spacious and tranquil room on the second floor, facing the parking lot. The beds were comfortable and large. Everything was spotless and in good upkeep. There is air conditioning, which worked very well. The blinds block all of the light, guaranteeing a restful sleep even in the middle of summer. I need to especially swoon about one thing in particular: Breakfast is spectacular and very tasty. At our first stay, unfortunately we had to leave quite early and had not yet worked up an appetite, but the bits that we ate were very good. Coffee is available decaf and with oat milk and is okay. The second time we stayed we especially took time out of our schedule to ensure we had time to fully savor the food. Everything is prepared with a lot of attention to detail. It is decorated in the most beautiful way. Be sure to have breakfast, it is definitely worth it! We have since come back and have explored more of the hotel and its offerings. The park surrounding it is a nice place for a walk. Yesterday we tried out the sauna and the pool. There is also a small fitness room next to it. Lovely spa - not overwhelmingly large, but it fits the hotel well. I would gladly stay here again and enjoy the hotel and its hospitality.

Excellent hotel! We got a huge room, the spa area was first-class, the service was excellent, and the breakfast was absolutely worthy of a 4-star rating. We immediately received a small gift as compensation for a complaint; that's how the hotel industry works. You don't experience that in many 5-star hotels anymore. In summer, the beautiful garden is probably a dream. The bar has a very special atmosphere, and the bartender was very friendly. Thank you very much! Minor drawbacks: - Several of our towels were dirty - No network reception or Wi-Fi in the spa area

It was the worst hotel stay of my life. The place was nice and some staff was exceptional but the overall philosophy and whiff of desperation of cash flow issues was palatable. I was asked to pay up front. Obviously, paying a guarantee is normal but to pay up front for a stay was new to me and immediately made me feel unwelcome. The reason given was ‘that they did not know me’ and ‘we had bad experiences before’ did in no way reassure me. When I refused, the management let it be but summoned me to reception a day later at a time when I was dressed in black attire and on a way to a funeral with the taxi waiting. Please mind, I was not checking out and had intended to stay two further days. This shows lack of respect, business sense, customer courteousness and frankly poor taste. The experience disgusted me to the point that I checked out there and then on the day of my mother’s funeral. One additional shocking fact is that the hotel claims to only clean rooms every second day. One the return of my first day my bed had not been made, there were dirty coffee cups and glasses. Not something you expect from a good hotel, never mind romantic hotel. The answer: ‘many hotels do this now and it had been marked on a tiny sticker, half peeled off on the bathroom mirror in the hotel room. Again, cost managements to have outweighed the customer experience. The whole experience left a bitter taste and overshadowed what should have been a calming and pleasant experience. The worst hotel I ever stayed in and I travel a lot for both work and pleasure. I now received a response that misrepresents me entirely and the frustration for my treatment as a personal attack on my character. It does not comment on the condition of the room and states upfront payment is indeed common practice. Rather than addressing the hotel’s shortcomings the management tries to disrespect and belittle the guest. Customers beware of this establishment.

Very nice hotel, great location and very good breakfast.

I had the privilege of experiencing an unforgettable evening at the Kaufmannsladen restaurant in Kieler Kaufmann – alone, but in excellent company: Ferdinand Giesen, who served me, enhanced the evening with charm, expertise, and genuine hospitality. Every course was a hit. The main course: tender meat on creamy ancient grain risotto with perfectly cooked asparagus – a feast for the eyes and taste. This was followed by a wonderfully light dessert with subtle notes of cocoa, accompanied by a wonderfully short espresso and – yes, you can even stylishly finish with a cigarette if you wish. This is what true gourmet culture feels like: casual, high-quality, and with a sense of enjoyment in every nuance. The ambiance outside on the terrace with a view of the greenery perfectly rounds off the experience. For me, it's a place where you don't just eat, you enjoy.

Certainly one of the addresses with an excellent reputation. We spent one night there on Christmas Day and have already stayed there before, but at that time in the new wing. Now we wanted to have a rustic, cozy feeling for Christmas and booked a room in the old building. Unfortunately this was quite disappointing, it wasn't like the pictures (I realize these are just examples) but it was really old-fashioned, very dark and uncomfortable. For a 4-star hotel, I also expect everything to be impeccably clean. Dusty cupboard fronts, dirty toilets and layers of dust on the heater, hairdryer and its cables showed that this was not the case. We were quite speechless. Because spending the night here costs a lot. Then we looked forward to breakfast the next morning, unfortunately it wasn't offered in the hall otherwise intended for it, which is very nice, but in a kind of conference room where it was so uncomfortable that we lost all of the Christmas spirit. The room was just functional and you really felt like you were at a conference, I didn't feel like I was in Kiel's best hotel! A small reward was the very nice swimming area with sauna. Unfortunately we won't be coming back.

A really great hotel, beautifully furnished and the view of the fjord is simply great! The team is very professional and yet very approachable, you feel very warmly welcomed everywhere. The food and the team in the "Kaufmannsladen" are definitely worth a visit, unfortunately we haven't tried the "Ahlmanns" (yet). The wellness area offers everything you need. A very clear recommendation for everyone who wants to have a good time.

We had a very, very nice stay and would love to come back. Everything was right. Unfortunately, Kiel's city center is extremely unspectacular and dingy. The Nordic Charm is missing. The hotel can't do anything about it

For the first time in the Kieler Kaufmann and totally pleasantly surprised. The service is sensational. Very suitable for a single room with a small dog. The New Year's Eve event at round tables was relaxed and the seating areas were very, very well put together. All respect and congratulations. Succeeded. The breakfast - a sensation of variety and selection. 12/31/25 already marked again. If the room price could be reduced for 2 nights, I would arrive on the 30th.

All in all very good. The staff takes care of the guest. The rooms are cozy with a great view, breakfast is rich and tasty. Thanks to the bartender for a very nice rest of the old year. I just say Coke grain. Sauna and pool very nice. It's worth booking the hotel. Happy New Year to all the staff.

I have no idea why this grandiose hotel doesn't have 5 stars. We are often on the move and many of the 5-star hotels we know have no chance against the Kiel merchant. Great ambience throughout the hotel, beautiful rooms, first-class breakfast, beautiful location: everything is simply right here.

I stayed in room 230 in Park wing, we asked another room. We were told hotel is fully booked. During breakfast or in 1 hours SPA visit we saw only a few people. The "fully booked" comment was strange for me. We paid 169 EUR for one night, the room we received was terrible. No ventilations, madras was hard as concrete and the view to the park was not to mention to bring up (you can see it from picture). The bathroom was outdated. Every time we took a shower, we had a pool on the floor. Also the water pressure was really low. Temperature during the night got really low in the room, I had to put extra clothes and socks to stay warm (I did turn on the heating). In the morning somewhere before 9 started renovation. We asked from reception what is going on... this is ridiculous. They said that no work was done in the hotel. So we are with hearing problems or the hotel has really bad communication between themselves and to customers. There were some good things also. We were just two of us in sauna/pool area almost 1 hour in hotel that was fully booked. The breakfast was good, one of the best I have had. The service was also good. Surrounding area is nice (the park and the neighborhood) and it is not so far from train station or from harbor (on foot ca 40 min, by bus 20 min). So 169 EUR per night is ridiculously high price to pay for the room we received. I will not stay there anymore. Thank you for your comment, but these are not ok. Our windows were not to street but to the park (no construction nor roads, but sanctuary for owls). And if the customers have issues with room, 4* hotel should find solution and not to dismiss customers.

Beautiful hotel - top service. The breakfast was really perfect - there was everything you could want and the oat cappuccino was particularly delicious. For dinner we can highly recommend the salad with beef strips and the cherry tiramisu.

The staff was very attentive and friendly, we were given an upgrade spontaneously. The breakfast was very good, something for every taste. Freshly squeezed juices, delicious quark dishes, fruit... In the evening you can relax in the pool and sauna. Those were 4 perfect nights and days.

had expected a spa bath/bubble bath in the room, it was a bathtub, just barely room for 2 and we are not big people, there were an incredible number of light switches and plug switches so it didn't make sense and something didn't work quite right, so only 4 stars but the service is top notch and the location so here it is 5 stars

IT is a great hotel in a good location. The staff are very helpful and friendly. It's a shame that the wellness area was only available to a limited extent, this was not clear when booking and was announced afterwards. It was also a shame that an international match was not shown, even though the technical possibilities were there. The management decided against it, so we moved to another hotel. Overall we were very satisfied.

An absolute top hotel. Every star deserves here. Service was super nice, courteous and always helpful. Every question is answered directly with very useful tips. The breakfast was absolutely amazing. The view (we had a window seat with sunrise 😎😊) of the Kiel Fjord was the “cherry on the cream”. The swim in the pool before breakfast... Perfect!👍

On a weekend in October we spent a girlfriends weekend in this really exceptionally beautiful hotel. Great view of the park and through the trees of the Kiel Fjord. Quiet location. Good connection to the ferry and public transport. I would particularly like to mention the very tasty food and the courteous and attentive service in the restaurant. Although the swimming pool was not usable, which we knew, we were offered a discount when paying. Overall, a wonderful weekend for us and a recommended hotel.

The location is fantastic, right next to a wonderful mountainous forest, a stone's throw from the Kiellinie and the city center is not far (but a decent walk). The service is impeccable considering the price level, and in the upscale catering area (Ahlmanns) there is a fantastic team with a high likeability factor The rooms (park wing) are noticeably old, but very well maintained and clean, the beds are very comfortable.

Always the first address for an overnight stay in Kiel. The staff's friendliness deserves a particularly positive mention here. The tasty food and drinks pamper the guest all around. Update September 14, 2024 I spent one night in a superior room. The bathroom was a little too small for me (1.93m) as the larger rooms were already fully booked. Everything else as usual, a wonderful address for a stay in Kiel. Breakfast was again a great experience, all the dishes were excellent including the cappuccino. As always, the staff had everything under control and in the friendliest, usual manner.

We liked it so much that if we were to stay in Kiel again, we would book this hotel again and again! All employees were pleasantly service-oriented and friendly, the entire facility was very clean and well maintained!

The ambience from the room including a large bathroom to the breakfast room with an excellent buffet - the day always starts with a good breakfast - to dinner in the restaurant and a nightcap in and at a nice bar made our stay there "sweeter". Thanks also to the friendly, attentive and courteous staff. We felt very comfortable in this house 🏡 in Kiel.

As of Sunday 2:00 p.m., room not ready. But another room with what felt like poorer facilities in the same category. Minibar not refilled. To compensate, not even a glass of Prosecco or something similar to bridge the waiting time at the bar. Staff unfriendly. NO recommendation.

Dear Sir or Madam, we arrived at 4:00 p.m. the room was not ready yet. After waiting for an hour and a half we got another room. The cleanliness in the room leaves something to be desired. At 3:45 p.m. there was no more cake in the restaurant. We asked if it was possible to sit on the terrace and wait for our room to be ready, it was not possible. The terrace wasn't set until 5:00 p.m. Reception, service and restaurant services leave something to be desired. We ordered an ice cream sundae since there was no cake left. The ice cream never came, although they apologized later that the ice cream had been forgotten. We enjoyed dinner very much VG Schnoor family

Bad hotel. When you see the housekeeper, everything is clear to you. Arrogant, arrogant, full of herself. No wonder the staff changes so often. A house dragon is responsible for the staff. Unbelievable.

Quietly located, lovingly furnished and very friendly staff. There are enough parking spaces for vehicles. The rooms are quite large and comfortably furnished.

We were there for the Kiel Week and stayed two nights. The hotel is perfectly located close to the fjord and in the middle of the Kieler Woche. Our room was ok and in order, the price-performance ratio was appropriate for the time and the location and at a Kiel week level. When it comes to service, we didn't meet anyone who wasn't friendly and nice. Nevertheless, we were missing a certain level of attention and focus on the customer. For a hotel of this level, it shouldn't be the case that people forget to say hello at reception or that you are left standing at the bar because the staff is chatting or that orders are forgotten at breakfast. Basically, this is a great hotel with room for improvement when it comes to service.

Were guests again for the Kiel Week. The hotel is just really beautiful. Breakfast buffet at its best (important for me: the coffee is excellent).. Staff very professional and competent, helpful and courteous. The hotel is located in a small forest area and very central to the Kiel Fjord (Kielline) and you can reach the city center in 15 minutes on foot. All in all: The Kieler Kaufmann is the best thing you could want and treat yourself to when visiting Kiel. Thank you very much for your hospitality...we will definitely be back....

Very nice location, service was good, rooms very nice. Unfortunately there are some shortcomings. It is very difficult for people with walking difficulties to take a shower as this has to be in a high bathtub. The food was very bad, I don't really know how it was. Below our room there was an outdoor reception with the Prime Minister of Schleswig Holstein, until after midnight. It was not possible to fall asleep until then. We would have liked to have been informed about this when booking.

I really liked the Hotel Kieler Kaufmann. The staff at breakfast and at the reception were very friendly and helpful, there is a large selection of delicious things at breakfast that are lovingly prepared and the room was also nice. It's a shame that the restaurant was closed on Sunday. I really liked the fact that Germany's European Championship game was shown on a big screen (despite the bar being closed). You could buy a beer at reception and other guests also had their own drinks and snacks which wasn't a problem. It had something of a living room atmosphere with strangers. The Romantik Hotel Kieler Kaufmann is a beautiful hotel, but unfortunately the service and staff leave a lot to be desired. An example of this is the increased room prices during the Kiel Week. Despite the increased number of guests, the staff was not increased accordingly. Another problem arose on Sunday, June 23rd, 2024, when the hotel bar was not occupied even though the European Championship soccer game between Germany and Switzerland was being broadcast there. Apparently the hotel's only bartender was off duty, which the staff says is always Sundays and Mondays. In view of the special events such as the Kiel Week and the outstanding European Championship football matches, better personnel planning would have been appropriate. In addition, we were unable to make a reservation at the hotel's restaurant because an event was taking place there. This resulted in us having to look for an alternative outside the hotel. When we kindly pointed out these grievances at reception when we left, we encountered incomprehensible and insulting behavior from one of the employees. Our comment was laughed at and we were asked if we had any idea how busy there was during Kiel Week and where the additional staff would come from. We found it particularly inappropriate that a young, inexperienced employee wanted to explain to us the importance of an annual event in Kiel, even though my partner was born here. In addition, we are also employers of several companies and know very well that you have to regularly adapt to various circumstances.
