Unexpected things... happen often. However, we weren't expecting such a great lunch. It was a fantastic experience for us. The service is also worth five stars. Thank you. We'll be back. M&M

It's simply amazing that something like this exists in Gelsenkirchen. Highly recommended! The food, ambiance, and service were top-notch.

Service was nice but unprofessional. We waited an hour in a nearly empty restaurant. The food was carelessly slapped down (schnitzel with fries/fried potatoes, like any other takeaway, the mushroom cream sauce was the most disgusting thing I've tasted in a restaurant in a long time). The whole thing was rounded off with a small "oops" on the bill, and we were charged €18 for drinks from the other table. We won't be coming back. 4.8 stars on Google are inexplicable. All the reviews here seem to focus on some kind of theme night – no idea if that involves a completely different kitchen team, but on this "Schnitzel Monday" there's no sign of that. Then they should just keep the place closed.

The food was very good, beautifully presented, and delicious. They cheated a bit with the watermelon; only 2 of the 3 pieces were grilled, and 1 piece was apparently forgotten or burnt; I would have appreciated a comment from the kitchen. The side salad seemed to be sitting unnoticed at the counter; I only received it shortly before the end of the meal. The pricing of the side dish (fried potatoes) at an exorbitant €5.90 didn't seem convincing to me, even after another look at the menu. But I didn't want to get into a discussion about it; it could have been stated more clearly on the menu. All in all, it was a pleasant visit; it won't be our last visit.

A warm welcome – we didn't really feel that way. Our visit today was rather disappointing. We didn't experience the expectation that everyone is warmly welcomed. This wasn't due to the service, but rather to the owner himself, who didn't even acknowledge us (no greeting, no farewell). And this was despite the owner sitting not far from us at the counter. The food was delicious and freshly prepared. The restaurant is beautifully located and tastefully decorated. However, parking may be limited for our planned celebration (the existing parking lot is for golf club members only).

This was our first time at this location. The ambiance, seating, and table decorations were all truly tasteful. The wines were fine, even though the one we selected wasn't available at the time. The only drawback: the asparagus triplets had germs that anyone would have removed at home before cooking. This was kitchen embarrassment number one. Our companion requested the salad without balsamic vinegar due to an intolerance. The salad came as God intended: plain. When asked if they didn't have oil and vinegar, the answer was: We mixed them beforehand. No alternative. That speaks for dressing from a bottle. A shame. Our server was friendly and helpful, but had no alternative. Incidentally, after a complaint, the potatoes arrived new, without sprouts.

Update 19.06.25: Two of us wanted to stop here during a bike ride, but despite plenty of free seats and at least three visible waiters outside, we were turned away with the message "no capacity available." We found this extremely unpleasant.

The Unverhofft restaurant completely impressed me! From the warm welcome and attentive service to the creative, exquisitely balanced cuisine – everything is just right here. The dishes are not only a feast for the palate, but also a feast for the eyes. Fresh ingredients, sophisticated combinations, and perfect preparation make every bite an experience. I was particularly impressed by the large wild herb salad with shrimp 🍤 . The ambiance is also exceptional – stylish, cozy, and decorated with great attention to detail. You immediately feel comfortable and welcome. Unverhofft is definitely more than just a restaurant – it's a place to enjoy, relax, and return. I highly recommend it to everyone!

The ambience is modern and quiet, and the terrace invites you to linger when the weather is good. The food was high quality and tasted to the point. We particularly liked the fresh ingredients and the seasonal selection. The service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Overall, a successful visit – we would be happy to come back.

We really enjoyed the menu on March 15, 2025 as part of the Menukarusel event. In addition to the excellent preparation of the food, you are presented with a wine that has been carefully selected and matches the course (the bitter one with the starter is mentioned here because it was another highlight for us). Absolutely! The unexpected impresses with its uniqueness. This starts with the location. In the middle of a huge golf course in the countryside! Did you have a tough game? Then just walk down to Haus Leithe and relax with a nice coffee. And if you're hungry, our menu carousel will take care of it! With wine accompaniment and everything that goes with it at the end of the day at a good price, I guarantee you that you will unexpectedly have another wonderful evening!

As a golfer and member of the neighboring golf club, I have been a regular guest of Patrick Hoff and his team for years. This is not just because of the aforementioned proximity to the club, but rather because of the great food, the good service and the great atmosphere. Absolute recommendation for anyone who wants to enjoy good food!

Update 12/16/24: Street Food Kitchen Party: Food was great! BUT: Boring! No mood/no action! Into the mini kitchen (pitch dark), grab some food and go back to the table. Back and forth, with no interaction with the kitchen; no entertainment...It was missing an Asian aperitif and a sweet ending. Kitchen parties are different (for us). The boss was grumbling in the restaurant, somewhat hidden. We were "hoping" for good entertainment...as I said, the food was great, the service was great, there was no party. Unfortunately, our expectations were not (fully) fulfilled here. Service more than 5 stars!!! Eat; full marks, perfect!!! Ambiance: chic and absolutely beautiful lighting (that's how it should be) We are already looking forward to the next “meal” 💕💕💕

I have been meeting a good friend at UNVERHOFFT for dinner at regular intervals for several years now. Without exception, we were served perfectly and were served excellently and deliciously. Thanks for that!

To start with the positive: the service was very good. Unfortunately the food was completely over salted and we couldn't finish it. After a note to the waiter, we were served dessert for free. Even though we had to wait a relatively long time, it was a nice touch from the service team. We're still a little disappointed - it could have been really good.

We had the honor of being invited to a friend's wedding. We sat in a very nice and stylishly furnished guest room. The decoration made the ambience in the room inviting and beautiful. As a starter there was delicious antipasti. The main course was offered as a buffet. The salmon, served whole piece, was the highlight of the buffet for us. Perfectly cooked and super tasty. The roast pork and the side dishes were also very tasty. For dessert there was a berry tiramisu. We found the service to be very attentive and friendly. Here's another thank you to the service team.

Very cozy restaurant with really good staff and excellent cuisine. There is a small menu with great dishes. The currywurst with fries is also great. A simple and inexpensive dish but excellently prepared. The shrimp in garlic oil is also great. We've been coming here for dinner every now and then for years and have never been disappointed.

In short, we were super excited. The restaurant is beautifully located and very easy to reach. In my opinion, the fact that you have a short walk from the parking lot to the location (about 2 minutes) is absolutely NOT a negative point. Beautiful outdoor area, delicious currywurst with home-made fries, friendly and attentive service, good price/performance ratio, would be happy again. Today we celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary there. The pre-selection of the food was easy, a special card was made for the reception and the ordering and service worked flawlessly. Many guests were enthusiastic about the quality of the food and will also come back.

Seh tolles Ambiente. Wiener Schnitzel sehr gut, aber nicht erstklassig zubereitet. Panade hat sich abgelöst. Woknudeln gut, aber für 23€ haben wir mehr erwartet. Burgerfleisch sehr dunkel und cross, keinesfalls saftig, weil über Punkt zubereitet. Insgesamt ok. Aufgrund der Preise in Verbindung mit der Qualität der Speisen wurde das Restaurant nicht unsere Lieblingsrestaurant.

It's lovely to sit there in the green. The hot dishes are good, but also expensive. I wouldn't go there to eat cake. The slices of cake are better at the nearby Wolterhof.

The food is a 12/10. Highly recommended is the Thai curry and the cream cheese bar!! The service is great. The entire location is truly a dream. We would be happy to come back at any time!

First of all, the service was absolutely top notch. I found the food to be very poor given the price structure. The asparagus was too al dente, the hollandaise could have been freshly whipped and the veal schnitzel could have been a little more tender. If the service and location weren't so good, it would probably have been a one-off visit.

Schöne Location mit nettem Außenbereich. Essen schmeckt ebenfalls gut. Man fällt allerdings sofort als "Fremder"auf, wenn man kein Golfclub-Mitglied ist und wird auch automatisch etwas anders behandelt. Wenn einen das nicht stört, ist man hier ganz gut aufgehoben.

Wer hätte eine so schöne location mit toller Terrasse in Gelsenkirchen vermutet? ich nicht, um so positiver war ich überrascht und die Speisekarte liest sich auch ganz wunderbar und es läuft einem das Wasser im Mund zusammen. Zu einem 80. Geburtstag im Familienkreis vor Ort, wollten wir uns verwöhnen lassen. Leider konnte die Bedienung keine Weinempfehlung geben, die Wartezeit zwischen Vorspeise und Hauptgang war so lang, dass die Gastgeberin nachfragen musste. Auch wurde die Weinbestellung zum Teil vergessen. Das zum Spargel dazugehörende Kalbsschnitzel war so klein, dass ich seit langem mal wieder hungrig aus einem Restaurant gegangen bin. Und das zu einem Preis den ich, selbst wohnhaft in Düsseldorf, so nicht bezahlt hätte währe ich nicht Gast meiner lieben Großtante gewesen. Um ihr den Abend nicht zu verderben, haben wir uns vor Ort nicht beschwert.

We ate at Unverhofft on a Wednesday evening. After the good reviews on Google, we made a reservation to have a more upscale meal during our several-day stay in Gelsenkirchen-Horst. SHORT VERSION: The dishes are okay, but the unexpected doesn't quite live up to high standards. LONG VERSION: Getting there: There were minor obstacles on the way there. It is of course not a problem that you cannot park directly at the restaurant but have to use the parking lot about 200m away. However, it would be helpful if a corresponding note could be read on the homepage and ideally also on site. Impression & Atmosphere: We were the first to arrive at the restaurant. The ambience is a successful mix of cozy and modern. But we noticed two things: Although the Unexpected hasn't been in operation for very long, many of the chairs are already partially worn out. Art lovers, on the other hand, immediately notice the large contemporary paintings. But the fact that apart from Patrick Hoff, who is portrayed as a cool, male chef, only lascivious women are depicted leaves a bad aftertaste... Menu: We found the menu to be quite confusing and without a common thread. It seems as if they are trying to please everyone in some way. Starter: As a starter we had the wild garlic and asparagus cream soup. The former was impeccable; However, the asparagus cream soup tasted relatively sour. That's okay, but it doesn't show the asparagus to its best advantage. But what was noticeable about both plates and is definitely not acceptable is that the plates came to the table pretty unclean. In addition to strong rinse water/drip edges, there were also a lot of greasy fingerprints on it. Unpretty. I told service about this. Main course: The "Spaghetti Vongole" was unfortunately disappointing: apart from the fact that the edge of the plate wasn't really clean again and it wasn't spaghetti at all but linguine, the dish had relatively little to do with the classic of Italian cuisine: with a strong note of fennel and overall quite over-seasoned and the clams, almost over-salted, unfortunately sank completely. The large portion of arugula that was on the pasta should have been on the menu. The second main course was the Indonesian fried rice. Good taste. But I can't judge whether it's authentic. However, this dish was also quite salty. The chicken could have been juicier. At the end we treated ourselves to a “Patrick's Cheesecake” (with an apostrophe... 🤭). It was sensationally good! But it didn't need the vanilla ice cream, which was rather poor in taste. Service: The service (3 different employees) was good overall. It was noticeable that untrained assistants were also used, but everyone was always friendly and sufficiently attentive and quick. CONCLUSION: If I lived nearby, "Unverhofft" wouldn't be my favorite restaurant at the moment. But I would give him another chance later.

Actually a nice place to eat something delicious. Unfortunately, we (4 adults) can only say very little good things. As a greeting from the kitchen came some baguette with butter. It was okay, a few herbs in the butter would have been great. Starters, asparagus cream soup so-so, Shrimp with rocket, really tastes great. If the intestines were removed it would be 10 out of 10. Main courses, sliced ​​meat, schnitzel; Taste and portion size really good. The appearance of the sliced ​​meat can absolutely be improved. Then the coronation; Asparagus with hollandaise. Absolute disgrace! The asparagus is not fresh, I suspect it was bought already peeled and was several days old. The cardboard hollandaise is unacceptable. The waiter's explanation: The guests expressly want the cardboard goods and definitely not homemade ones. Perhaps it would be advisable to ask about this in advance. All in all, we definitely don't have to go there again.

Great location that I was able to get to know as a guest at a silver wedding anniversary. Everything was really great. The service was so nice. As a guest you feel right at home. And the food was extremely good, tasty and wholesome. I hope this restaurant becomes even more famous. Because it deserves it.

We really enjoy going to the Unverhofft restaurant. This time we went to the very nice restaurant with friends. A great atmosphere (beautiful light, great decoration, great pictures by interesting artists, stylishly set tables)!!! But the restaurant with its terrace also invites you to linger. The food is always great. There are new dishes on the menu every three months and seasonal specialties are also offered, as well as delicious cakes. The staff is always friendly, attentive and has in-depth knowledge of food and drinks (including the large selection of wines). Full marks and recommendation!

Food really very good. However, the service leaves a lot to be desired. Unfortunately we had the feeling of being treated as second class guests. We had to “beg” for drinks. The neighboring table was courted. Given the prices it's an absolute no go... What was also negative was that parking spaces were reserved for all veterinary members of the golf club (board members, managers, etc.) but there was no disabled parking space. Small addendum: I've just read other reviews. The service seems to have been a problem for a while. We also had the impression that other guests were given preferential treatment. And there was always feedback that this was discussed in the team. Unfortunately nothing seems to change. Then the team meetings have no purpose if the service doesn't understand that.

Rarely have we had such a bad meal. The burger was carelessly prepared and disastrously prepared. Meat almost inedible, firm and tough. Service staff couldn't handle the constructive criticism in any way. The complaint was only responded to with a smile. Unfortunately, the wild mushroom sauce only consisted of champions. Schnitzel and fried potatoes were of good snack quality. Expected high quality…unexpectedly bad food. Quality and service can also be different. A pity!!!

Unfortunately, today was the first time I was really disappointed. The food was very tasty, but it couldn't keep up with last year's menu carousel and I wasn't full afterwards either, in contrast to last year. What pissed me off a bit today was the service. First we were greeted nicely and asked if we had reserved. Then another colleague came and asked exactly the same thing. From my perspective, she came across as very stressed and arrogant. After that we went straight to the table and everything else went really smoothly. Somehow there was no comfort due to the hectic pace that prevailed. Two of us had the wine accompaniment. The glasses were cleared away without asking if anyone would like some more wine. So, there was a wine for every course. It would have been completely fine if the glasses had been filled at least to the top and it wouldn't have looked any different at other tables! In addition, people at other tables also asked whether they could still have wine and refills were diligently poured out. We were simply cleared away. Lastly, I unfortunately have to point out that we had two broken wine glasses and one that was smeared with lipstick (the entire rim!). The other waitresses were new to me, but at least they were very nice.

We once again treated ourselves to a menu carousel. Full of anticipation, we headed to the Unverhofft restaurant. At the entrance, after a short wait, we were warmly welcomed and escorted to the table. What was surprising was the proximity to our neighboring table - private conversations weren't really possible and you weren't really "among yourself" (- 2 stars for the ambience). Otherwise everything was very elegant and nicely decorated. The team responded well to the driver's request that he not drink anything alcoholic and offered an alternative. The food and the wines served with it were very tasty. Unfortunately we were forgotten at dessert. But we got it after we paid (- 2 star service). Overall, a mixed impression remained with the conclusion that the food could not compensate for the small disadvantages, at least not at just under €80 per person.

We eat at Unverhoffn regularly and we are always extremely satisfied. There are some classics on the menu and new dishes regularly. Price/performance is really right here! Very nice service and a wonderful outdoor terrace in summer! What more do you want?

Das Essen war wirklich lecker und auch das Ambiente war sehr nett. Angemessene Preise hat es hier auch . Was mich gestört hat, war, dass eine Bedienung mehr dem Restaurant nicht geschadet hätte. Leider wurden auch gewisse Menschen bevorzugt behandelt und so mussten wir leider auf alles länger warten. Bisschen schade.

Ein sehr aufmerksamer Service kümmert sich umgehend um die Gäste. Eine nicht zu groß gestaltete Speisenkarte bietet gleichwohl eine ausreichende Auswahl an verschiedenen Gerichten. Die Küche zaubert ein schmackhaftes Essen, die Weinauswahl dazu überzeugt mit heimischen Gewächsen und einer Auswahl ausländischer Weine. Es lohnt sich einfach nach langer Fahrt durch verschiedene Ortsteile Gelsenkirchens dieses Restaurant anzusteuern. Mancher Besucher wird sich wundern, fernab von der City dieses interessante Restaurant gefunden zu haben!
