Restaurant Ulmer Gulden/Donaustube in Ulm

The room is eye-catching, comfortable, warm, almost luxurious. Almost........In fact, the tables are not covered with tablecloths but, like in a diner, with unhygienic placemats, on which are placed plates and cutlery, presumably synthetic. The waiter, when customers leave the table, passes us a sponge and voilà, on to the next. We took advantage of the buffet on 23.XII. 2023 (cost €38 each, €19 children). The choice was wide and of good quality. However, the tray with smoked fish (which was excellent) at 7.30 pm was sadly almost empty and was only refilled when we were leaving. The spoon for the food warmer with "mediterranische gratin" (modest) was encrusted with potatoes, making it difficult to serve oneself, and has remained so. Very much like a GDR restaurant, the fact that the beer served to me was not cold. Ditto the failure to clean up some obvious food debris that had fallen on the carpet by the waiter while he was serving us. The cost of the drinks was, of course, generous. But charging €8.20 for a bottle of water (0.75 cl.) is like a desert raider. When it came time to pay the bill of €230.10, I left only €0.90 to the waiter who had treated us with condescension and inefficiency, perhaps because he considered us modest and inexperienced customers, given that we were not dressed elegantly. Because of the negative reviews about the food, I was initially unsure whether I should look for somewhere else. But I decided to give Donaustube a try anyway, and I wasn't disappointed. I had a very good chicken breast salad. Sure, it's €20 for a salad, but it's a hotel restaurant after all. The food came very quickly, and the service was excellent. I'd gladly go back!

A nice atmosphere with very friendly and attentive service. Unfortunately with a disastrous meal. We ordered the burgers with homemade fries and Caesar salad. Fries from the bag Burger very dry Meat more than through...the vegan burger cannot be identified. Should probably be vegetables, has a rubbery consistency, taste cannot be described. All of this for a really hefty price. Our conclusion is to stay in the hotel and eat outside.

Unfortunately the worst meal I've had in a long time. Thread hospital food. Ready-made Maultaschen in a clear, tasteless broth. The buffet was neither an eye-catcher nor something that you would like to eat again. There is no relationship between price and performance. Who is cooking there? Also, I'm wondering, does anyone from management try the food? The service staff was top! Very friendly and attentive. What was interesting, however, was that no one asked whether everything was good or whether the food was tasty. There is still a lot of room for improvement. You come to a restaurant with well-dressed staff, waiters who wear gloves to set the tables... you expect anything other than hospital food when you eat... It's a shame.

I was rather weary eating here for dinner because of the recent 1-2 star reviews, but it seems I had nothing to worry about. The food was pretty tasty using very fresh ingredients, presentation very good, and the service very friendly. Food: - Caesar Salad: Very fresh, crunchy lettuce. For some reason it was missing croutons, but I was not missing it, granted it meant it only contained lettuce and parmesan and dressing. It was nevertheless tasty. - Tomato Sauce Spaghetti from the kid's menu: quite tasty, but not too sweet. - Salmon with roasted vegetables: Crispy skin, succulent salmon with sweet roasted vegetables. - Salted Caramel Cheese cake: Very stylish presentation with berry sauce around the cheese cake. Cheese cake is quite small but has a very rich caramel topping. Quite tasty but not the best cheese cake I've had, but the berry sauce goes very well with it. - Crepe with icecream+berry sauce. Can't go wrong with crepes, but the combination of crepe, vanilla ice cream and the berry sauce went really well and I wanted to eat 2! Service: The waiters were very friendly and attentive, full of smiles and was very funny and friendly with my 10 year old daughter. Atmosphere: The decor is quite gorgeous and clean. It shares the same space as the hotel's breakfast bar and is pretty nice, especially for the price of the dishes/hotel. The Caesar salad was €15, Kid's menu about €8, Salmon €28. I find the price setting pretty reasonable considering the quality of the food, service and venue. The only negative is that it does not have such a wide range of foods, with other options being Burger and Pinsa.

The last time I ate so badly was in the hospital. The Skyrestaurant was closed without notice. Never again!!!

The service was good. Unfortunately, the food was absolutely terrible. Luckily, I didn't order the food from the table next to me. That was probably even more inedible. The price-performance ratio is absolutely not good.

We waited a long time for our food. But that can happen, of course, if you come during rush hour. We finally got some bread after an hour. It was obvious that it was left over from the morning because you could have bashed someone's head in with it. My daughter's tomato soup came before her pasta. My meal (roast beef with wild garlic spaetzle and braised vegetables) was lukewarm to cold, and my wife's rice was inedible due to the cold sauce. The service was generally nice, but lacked attentiveness. Asking every now and then if you had any other requests or if everything was okay is, in my opinion, a basic requirement for a restaurant in this price range. My daughter summed it up well: Why didn't we go to Burger King?

Service is okay. The waitresses seem friendly, but I still felt like they were watching me because they stared at me every now and then. The food is not recommended, e.g. the salmon was very dry and the salad consisted of leftovers and a fatty sauce. Overall the food is not justified for the price.

Too little selection, high prices but rather reasonable for the food

Absolutely the worst buffet I have ever had! Especially not worth the steep price. The only dishes that were bearable were the potatoes, standard green salad (not the specialty salads offered) and the dessert. I left hungry and extremely disappointed.

Not worthy of a maritime hotel. Evening meal was buffet style and of poor quality. Was our last time in that hotel. There are better places for that price.

Top service, good food and the buffet is also highly recommended! We would definitely love to come back! Keep going, you're doing everything right! Best regards.

I was there for my birthday. The table was very nicely decorated, the service was very accommodating and the food was also very good, just a great atmosphere

After Bülent Ceylan we had dinner at the Maritim Hotel - unfortunately! I ordered salmon with fried potatoes. The salmon was dry and lukewarm, the fried potatoes felt like they had been in the pan all day. Totally dried out and actually not edible. I was very disappointed and actually went home hungry. In my opinion, a small salad should be a must with this dish. Unfortunately the price-performance ratio wasn't right here! Even though we may not have been served too far from the kitchen's closing time, the quality of the dishes leaving the kitchen shouldn't be that bad! What a shame!

Even if you had to wait a bit for dinner, the burgers are good, the beer is tasty and the selection from the other guests - both food and drinks - looked good and was equally well received.

We celebrated my parents' 50th wedding anniversary in the Ulm Gulden. It was a very beautiful evening. Everyone was very friendly and took good care of us. The food was great. Thank you again at this point. Also to the team at breakfast.

Clean and well-maintained hotel in a very good location. The stem is a little older, but you feel comfortable. However, despite the great variety, the breakfast offering was only designed for people who like animal foods. The only offer: vegan butter, oat milk (discontinued), soy milk (bad & flaky), ready-made vegan muffins. Good thing there was bread and fresh fruit…
