Restaurant Schnitzler Erfurt in Erfurt

We've always found the Schnitzler restaurant to be a very good place and have recommended it everywhere. The large, crispy schnitzels are a particular signature of the restaurant. Our previous visits have always been characterized by positive quality, so we always looked forward to a delicious meal. Unfortunately, however, we were disappointed on our last two visits. The schnitzel and the side dishes were dripping with fat, which left an unpleasant impression from the first bite. What was particularly noticeable was that the schnitzel itself was fried in old fat and had charred residue. This experience was a real shame, as it was a stark contrast to what we were used to. We're not sure what the reason might be. It's possible the restaurant has a new chef who isn't yet fully attuned to the taste and quality of the food. Despite these disappointments, we're not quite ready to give up on the Schnitzler. We plan to visit again in a few weeks to see if the situation has improved. Hopefully, we can then once again enjoy the original quality of the schnitzels that delighted us so much.

Very good food, can only be recommended

Generally delicious food, but very long waiting times, overwhelmed staff and very poorly prepared food.

We arrived at this restaurant with five people at 10:00 PM on Saturday, September 6, 2025, after a concert. When they saw us, they quickly removed all the lights from the tables, saying, "We're closing soon," even though their opening hours were advertised until 11:00 PM. We sat down at an outside table anyway. We just wanted a drink; it's understandable that the kitchen closes at that time. We also wanted to order...cocktails were out, we had already turned off the ice cube machine...coffee wasn't available either, the coffee machine was already off...somehow we each managed to find a drink. When they brought it to us, they asked if we could check out right away. We didn't feel welcome; we were probably disturbing the place before closing time. The glasses were constantly being cleared away, and then they asked if we could take the light on the table with us...well, we've never experienced anything like that before! The neighboring bar was packed with customers, so we probably made the wrong choice that evening. After a concert, even one nearby where the city is full of visitors who might even stop by again, an hour's revenue probably doesn't count... We were very disappointed!

We made a reservation weeks in advance for a birthday. Unfortunately, we were seated in a corner at a table for four, with a chair pushed up next to it. The service was very friendly, but the food was not good. My baked feta was just breadcrumbs. It was hollow pre-made pieces that had been put in the fryer. It just had a greasy taste. The cheese spaetzle was inedible. We were very disappointed. The price/performance ratio is not right here. The location is the best part of the place. We cannot recommend it.

It's well attended, but unfortunately it's very loud when you're sitting inside, so the acoustics aren't pleasant. The service is overwhelmed by the fact that they hand you a menu in a timely manner, and they don't pay attention to empty drinks; even looking closely doesn't help. So I go thirsty. The portions are very good, but how they put the hollandaise sauce on the grilled vegetables is a mystery to me. It was very onion-heavy, so you couldn't taste the vegetables or the tiny dollop of hollandaise. Incidentally, an extra hollandaise sauce costs €3.90. It was neither a quiet evening nor a service highlight, but I was full... everyone has to decide for themselves. I probably won't go back.

The side dish lay carelessly and dryly on the plate. The schnitzel was dry-fried (sometimes very dark and dry), topped with cheese according to the menu, but I'd say they skipped the cheese. The bacon-covered beans looked like they'd just been dumped on top from bean soup.

Very good food and friendly staff

Initially, the service was overwhelmed by gluten intolerances; many of the ingredients on the menu were either missing or missing in the right places. After we agreed on what I could eat, there was a long wait. The fried chicken wasn't cooked all the way through in one place, which is unacceptable for chicken. Too expensive for the service; more fried potatoes would have been nice.

Very tasty, large, and tender—the best schnitzel I've had in a long time. Always worth a visit.

Nice waitress. We got a table in a busy restaurant with many reserved tables, assuming we could finish within an hour. And we actually finished within an hour 😉 The food came very quickly and was very plentiful. It's a lot of schnitzel and not much of a side dish. Two portions are easily enough for two adults and a child. We'll remember this place if we're ever in Erfurt again.

Unfortunately, I had a rather unfriendly experience. We had a reservation, but then they claimed it wasn't true, unfortunately in a rather rude tone. That's not how I imagine a good evening at a restaurant should go. :(

Very tasty schnitzel. Very friendly service.

It's well known that a restaurant stands or falls with a good chef. In this case, it really does fall. We went out to eat yesterday and were horrified to discover the quality of the food was very poor. The pasta and Gorgonzola sauce were soaked in Gorgonzola and had no taste at all. The burger pettis were overcooked and the bun was hard. The schnitzel with seasoned meat... well, what can I say, if you hadn't read that it was seasoned meat, you wouldn't have recognized it as seasoned meat. There was a uniform mush on the schnitzel and nothing to recognize other than seasoned meat. The hunter's schnitzel for €14.90 was very expensive and the sauce on the pasta was just a red sauce that had zero to do with flavor. This is a classic tourist trap and anyone who doesn't have standards for good quality food can visit this shop. Unfortunately, it wasn't the first time and we thought it would be better next time. I'm sorry it's not like that.

All in all, a good experience. I had a small special request for the food, which unfortunately wasn't fulfilled. Probably because the waiter didn't understand. (Foreign citizen) He certainly hasn't lived in Germany for very long, but it wasn't that dramatic.

We had a sunny spot with a view of the cathedral, and the atmosphere at the tables outside was great. Fast and friendly service, with menus available both via QR code and by à la carte. The meal includes two schnitzels coated in a delicate, crispy breading. One of the tastiest dishes I've ever had. Half a star deducted due to the lack of side salads.

Very friendly staff and a very pleasant atmosphere. The reservation worked. Restaurant in the heart of Erfurt. The food was delicious and plentiful. I highly recommend it.

Schnitzler Review It was disappointing! I was there a year ago and my chicken wasn't cooked well and the kale was cold! But I wanted to give the Schnitzler another chance. It wasn't worth it! We waited over an hour for the food. When it finally arrived, the vegetables were cold and the sauces were only lukewarm! The schnitzel itself was OK.

We arrived at exactly 6:00 p.m. A table outside was free, and service came quickly. Our orders were placed. After 45 minutes, we noticed a general commotion. We noticed that the wait staff were alerting new guests that a schnitzel dish would take ONE HOUR. We weren't informed of such a long wait when we ordered. After 70 minutes, the food finally arrived. A schnitzel—admittedly nice to look at—was carelessly placed on the plate with a maximum of two tablespoons of fried potatoes. No garnish at all 😕 The schnitzel was unfortunately bone dry inside, and the potatoes probably weren't seasoned at all—no flavor. My wife only had a seasoned beef. The taste was also a disaster. When she ordered another slice of toast, after what seemed like an eternity, the wait staff came back with the message that the toast would take some time. What can I say? After more than an hour, such a totally unsatisfying "meal"—nope, never again. Best regards, Burkhard

I've been there a few times now... can't complain, large portion to fill you up... and tastes really delicious

The food and service are good, but unfortunately, our salad was from a refrigerated bag. The outdoor area is right on the busy main street, but it's not an option. All in all, this restaurant is highly recommended.

Here I ate what I consider the best cordon bleue I've ever tasted. The open ambiance outside with a view of the cathedral is very inviting. This is the place to be for schnitzel dishes, as they taste delicious and aren't dry and tough. The Schnitzler in Erfurt scores highly with its great location and fresh, crispy cordon bleue and schnitzel at reasonable prices. The service is very friendly; we were served by the young trainee, who did her best to make our stay enjoyable. I can only recommend the Schnitzler, as I can't think of any negative points.

The service was courteous and attentive, but the food reminded me strongly of a cafeteria. We had the surprise platter for two. The surprise was that everything seemed to be prepared without any seasoning. Perhaps it would be better to reduce the excessive load of mixed vegetables, potato wedges, and beans and focus more on preparing the meat. Then leave out the overcooked fried eggs, and it would be better.

We were in Erfurt again and went to our usual restaurant. Let's start with the negatives. The salad only tasted of lettuce and parsley, all three kinds. More dressing would have been good. The portion size of the cheese patties was really only for a small appetite. The side dishes were also relatively small. There was a lack of salt in everything except the schnitzel, but luckily you can add more salt. Long wait when paying. Now the positives: The schnitzel lives up to its name; they are really large. Fast service, except when paying. Very friendly too. The price-performance ratio is just about okay; if Erfurt were smaller or not the state capital, then it would have to be improved.

The food and drinks arrived very quickly. The portions were large. However, I found the presentation very poorly. Fries, schnitzel, and a slice of lemon, along with mayo and ketchup, came in small plastic bags. As we all know, what matters is what matters. The fries were unsalted, the schnitzel bland. We also ordered cocktails. They were tasty, but didn't look appealing. It's a shame; there's still room for improvement.

We were always satisfied, but from today on, I can hardly say anything positive. The schnitzel was still okay, but the fried potatoes were practically drenched in oil and the potato balls were half-raw... unfortunately, it's no longer worth the money.

The value for money was excellent. We were a large group at lunchtime. It was quick, and everyone got their food at the same time. The waitress was only in her first year of training, but she served us excellently and professionally. Many "old hands" could learn a thing or two from her 😉 Well done.

Schnitzel was too dry and fried too darkly, fries weren't seasoned and not cooked through, we waited an hour for the food 😫 It's a shame, we were usually always satisfied.

We have been to Schnitzler several times, as they also serve vegetarian food and we were always satisfied, but this time we were very disappointed. Our vegetarian burgers and the accompanying potato wedges were served cold. Unfortunately, the quality of the burgers has also completely declined. It's a shame we won't be coming back to Schnitzler to eat again.

We had reserved nine tables weeks in advance. The restaurant is located right on the Domplatz and is very busy. Tables were arranged for us outside, as the reservation had been made for the inside area and they generally don't make reservations for the outside area. We were able to order our drinks quickly, and they were brought promptly. For the food, almost everyone ordered something different: various schnitzels, baked potatoes, fries, cucumber soup. Unfortunately, the conclusion: All the dishes were underseasoned or not seasoned at all. I had roulade with red cabbage and dumplings. All the ingredients, and especially the sauce, were completely bland. A real shame! The three slices of bread that came with the cucumber soup were completely dried out. It felt like they had been cut that morning and left uncovered. The cucumber soup wasn't really cold and had parsley instead of dill. But that's a matter of taste; it lacked zing here too. The rhubarb spritzers had once been placed next to rhubarb, they were so thin. The waitress wasn't interested in our feedback at all. When we paid separately, everyone said what they were having and was told the price, but wasn't shown the exact amount.

I was really looking forward to the meal, as I've always been very satisfied. Unfortunately, it was a complete disappointment. The amount of seasoned meat was very small compared to last year. There was hardly any meat to be seen, and the surrounding food was tasteless and like "flour mush." What a shame! I expected something different for the price. I won't be back anytime soon...

After a long, long recovery period from the Schnitzler, we dared to do it again today. Pure surprise. Service very quick and friendly. The food came after about 15-20 minutes and was very tasty and as you would expect, hot and a large portion. We hope it stays that way with Schnitzler. So see you soon.

The food was disappointing and not worth the price. I didn't pay much attention to the time, but after ordering, it took a maximum of 15 minutes for the food to arrive, which was a warning sign, even considering we were there late afternoon and the place was relatively quiet. The schnitzel itself was delicious, but the side dishes consisted of a small handful of frozen potato balls (far too few), chanterelle mushrooms that didn't seem fresh either, and a ready-made sauce that wasn't even properly mixed because it still contained lumps. And all this for just under €23.

We've been to Schnitzler many times, but what we were served today was simply abysmal. We ordered a schnitzel platter and it arrived at our table after about 3 minutes. This really surprised us. The dressing on the salad was completely dried out and the canned vegetables were completely overcooked. The schnitzel was swimming in fat. It gave the impression that the platter had been sitting in the kitchen for a while. We told the waitress this and her reaction was to bring us more overcooked and watery vegetables. The mushroom sauce was just water. The mixed vegetables were a solid white mush and the beans were swimming in water with raw bacon. The cauliflower was a mushy mass. After we pointed out again that it was inedible, the table was cleared away and we were offered a coffee. For 40 euros it is simply cheeky to serve a guest a stale platter with dried out salad, overcooked canned vegetables and schnitzel that has been reheated. Never again!! It's a shame that they cut corners on quality like that

Unfortunately, tonight was the last time we ate here. My girlfriend and I have eaten at this restaurant several times, but today was a complete disaster. After a brief consideration, we ordered the schnitzel platter for two. Surprisingly, after just five minutes, we were served a carelessly presented array of poorly prepared ingredients. The canned vegetables (immediately recognizable by their pale color and mushy consistency) and the schnitzels, which had been sitting for a while and had probably been reheated, spoiled our appetites. Add to that the ready-made salad and the stale sauces. The mushroom sauce was watered down, and the hollandaise sauce came with the skin. No thanks. Any kebab shop could do better. Thus, a dinner to forget. Even the offer of a coffee as compensation didn't help improve our mood. It's a shame. With this standard, it's going to be difficult to retain regular customers. But maybe it'll still be enough for starving students who can't cook any better themselves. Who knows...

If I could, they wouldn't get a star. We had reserved a table, and when we arrived, they said we were late. There was a discussion and they yelled at us, acknowledging that we were exactly on time and it had been recorded incorrectly in their schedule. However, there was no apology, just a reminder that it was busy and we couldn't get a table. Simply rude and absolutely unfriendly.

Whenever I'm in Erfurt, I go to the Schnitzler. The schnitzels are simply fantastic. And they have a great Chianti. The staff is very friendly despite the high number of customers.

A very nice schnitzel restaurant. The selection of schnitzels is very good and plentiful. Of course, other dishes are also available. I opted for the Munich schnitzel. I really enjoyed it. The service was quick and friendly. We'd be happy to come back.

Good value for money 👍🏼 Very tasty, tender, and large schnitzels. The waiters were polite and came by frequently to ask if we needed more drinks. The outside seating was full, and inside, except for 2-3 tables, everything was occupied. So we had to wait about an hour for our food. But I think that was okay, since it was really busy.

We just had a drink outside under the parasols overlooking the cathedral on a hot day. The staff was friendly. Drinks were expensive, like everywhere else.

Never had such bad food! 2cm of breading for 0.5cm of meat! Side dishes were lukewarm. A waste of time and money!

Unfortunately, I have to retract my positive review. We were there last week to celebrate our anniversary. I was so incredibly disappointed. The service was a complete disaster. We had the most awkward seat of all (right by the kitchen). We haven't been there for over a year now. It's gotten so bad. The sauces were so thick you could cut them right up. There was always a bored waiter standing next to the kitchen (who was constantly looking at his phone) despite it being very busy. And we had to wait forever for the bill. Last year, two very nice girls worked there, and they provided excellent service. What a shame, really.

There was no trace of structure or friendliness. Completely overbooked, and the manager was personally rude to guests, even though the reservation had been made two weeks in advance. There was no trace of professionalism. Unfortunately, I can't rate the food, as we didn't get any despite having made a reservation.

We had a reservation for a group of eight people and arrived on time. Nevertheless, we were accused of not having a reservation. The way we were informed was rude and unprofessional. No solution was offered; instead, we were simply turned away. This is disappointing for a restaurant that prides itself on hospitality. This is not how you treat guests.

Preferably 0 stars. Never experienced worse service. Our reservation, for 8 people, was rescheduled by the restaurant for a different time (an hour later). When we arrived, the staff were very rude and said we were an hour late. When we asked why he was being so unfriendly, he said, "Just look at what's going on here." If an owner is fed up with his guests and gets in a bad mood because of it, he probably doesn't need to anymore. The next restaurant was much busier, and all the employees were totally relaxed and calm. What a shame.

We had dinner at Schnitzler. The view of the cathedral is beautiful, but the price-performance ratio reflects this. However, we also have to mention the large selection of different schnitzel creations, which we really enjoyed. Unfortunately, the service wasn't exactly friendly, and we had to wait almost 15 minutes for a bowl for the dog in the 30-degree heat, even after having to ask twice.

The reservation worked out perfectly, and we went to Schnitzler in a small group, full of anticipation. We had to wait a short while for our table, which is perfectly acceptable for a Friday evening. After quite a while, the waiter came and took our order. The drinks were then brought promptly. However, we had to wait a little over 1.5 hours for our food!!! My Florentine schnitzel was overcooked, quite dark, hard, and dry – a real shame. Two people received the wrong food, and no one asked for additional drinks, even though their glasses were empty. I have a different understanding of service. It's a shame, because the restaurant came highly recommended.

Very good and rich schnitzel variations

When you walk in, you're just given strange looks by the unmotivated waitresses. Half the place is empty, and unfortunately, you can't get a table even if you ask - lol. Unfortunately, I can't comment on the food. There's a huge selection. Nevertheless, I'm happy to share my somewhat different experience with others.

We were there as a family (2 adults, 2 children) on a Saturday. The location is fantastic, with a great view of the cathedral and church. Service was friendly and quick. We ordered two children's dishes, which were large enough for a hungry adult. We adults ordered a "Schnitzler Special Platter." This was advertised for 2 people. It included 4 huge schnitzels, 3 large chicken breasts, 2 pork steaks, a myriad of croquettes, fries, wedges, etc., and vegetables on top. It was served with hollandaise sauce, creamed mushrooms, and "gypsy sauce." The meat was okay. The vegetables, however, were completely overcooked and simply unseasoned. Furthermore, the platter would have been enough for at least 4 adults and 2 children. The portion sizes are generally beyond decadent! Furthermore, the waitress SHOULD have provided a warning when ordering! Incredibly disrespectful treatment of food. The wait staff should definitely provide a warning about the portion size when ordering!

Never again, we've never had worse food! The "dark beer" goulash didn't even have a hint of dark beer, and it was pork goulash and should have been labeled as such! The beer and the Coke were warm, and when we asked if they had any ice cubes, we were told they were out!! And last but not least, we waited an hour and a half!

When two Wiener-style schnitzels with fried potatoes are brought to the table 3 minutes after ordering (yes, it really was a maximum of 5 minutes (!!), and that was in a half-full restaurant), I wonder if the schnitzels are heated in the microwave. Unfortunately, the fried potatoes were only lukewarm and far from crispy. Service was friendly and quick. All in all, though, in my opinion, definitely not recommended.

We had Thuringian bratwurst with dumplings, red cabbage, and sauerkraut. Terrible. They fill the plate so full here because they apparently think it will win over the guests, but we were impressed by the taste. Everything was bland, seemingly prepared without seasoning. The side dishes were drab and not fresh. Everything was very disappointing, and we were so looking forward to this bratwurst on our visit to Erfurt.

The food really wasn't anything special; the schnitzel wasn't particularly appetizing, and the soup tasted like it came out of a packet... the prices were often unjustified, but the staff were really friendly and helpful. Otherwise, the atmosphere was very nice and quiet.

Worst schnitzel ever, it was never fresh! The bottom of the breading came off in the bean water (the beans were cold). The fried potatoes only saw the pan from afar 🥴. We got three meals in less than 15 minutes!!!

Well, if no one can find good food here, I don't know what else to say. Everything was delicious. And the drinks were first-class, and the service was fantastic.

We sat outside for 20 minutes. People were being served before us, but we weren't. When we asked, a young man simply dismissed us with, "No, we don't serve outside." He did so with a level of rudeness I've rarely experienced. We've been to this restaurant several times. After this incident, they won't be seeing us again anytime soon.

To start with, the meal - beer goulash with penne - was delicious and filling. The meat was really tender. The sauce was a delight. I arrived at the restaurant around 3 p.m. There were only three tables occupied. I sat right at the front by the window. The young waitress asked if I was alone, which I replied with "yes." She immediately explained to me that the table was reserved and that I should go to the back. I was perplexed and asked if I could stay where I was. She said yes!!! I felt discriminated against as a woman and said so. Then I could stay there. When I left at 3:45 p.m. there was only one table occupied, but all the tables had "Reserved" signs on them.

I've been here several times and I have to say again and again today that it's simply great. We didn't sit for long before a service arrived that was very nice and friendly, the food was great and the atmosphere was very pleasant.

We hadn't made a reservation but still spontaneously got a table for 1.5 hours. The food came quickly and was very tasty. The prices are reasonable. The service was also very friendly. Highly recommended

We were there with 6 people, all but one dish were very good, unfortunately one dish was a bit cold. The staff tried very hard and was very friendly. They tried to fulfill our every wish.

Had a gypsy schnitzel. Unfortunately, it was very dry and the amount of sauce (probably ready-made from a jar) was saved. If it weren't for the high price, it would be a quick takeaway meal. Too bad!

The food was very good. The prices are fair. The view of the cathedral is indescribable. The service was very accommodating. I don't know what one could complain about.

Have been here several times, unfortunately the quality is getting worse and worse. A schnitzel was ordered with sauce, there was a dollop of hollandaise on it, but that's already well described. So when I asked why it was so little, I was immediately given more, but I was then allowed to pay the proud price of 3.90 for one sauce. It's a shame that some things are no longer the same as they used to be. I won't be going there again in the near future.

We were here as a group and I didn't even know Schnitzler before. I was super positively surprised. The card is very versatile. There were many interesting variations, but not just schnitzel. The service was very nice and quick. We all found something, also quite different. The food came quickly and requests for drinks were also responded to well. The portions are generous and I found my schnitzel very tasty. I would definitely come back. We sat nicely inside, in summer there are also seats outside with a view of the cathedral square and Erfurt cathedral.

Pure disappointment! I've been coming to the Schnitzler more or less regularly for about 15-20 years now to eat Buffchen (GDR Jägerschnitzel). But today was definitely the last time. Reservations on site were possible without any problems, although they were received with relative lack of enthusiasm. The table was free and clean at the specified time. Ordering food was quick and easy. Unfortunately, a little later we were told in German that was very difficult to understand that wedges and fries were out with the schnitzel. It could be that fries are out, although very unusual for a restaurant that offers at least 50% of the dishes with fries. No matter, then fried potatoes will have to serve. My buffets were OK, but unfortunately not anymore. The arrangement was more than careless. (see photo) I know this differently from Schnitzer from times long past. But my wife's Wiener-style schnitzel was a disaster. Absolutely inedible, barely seasoned and not very hot. She gave me half a schnitzel, but I only got a small bite of it. The arrangement was just as careless as the buffet. Unfortunately, at the moment I can't understand how some people come to the conclusion that this is the best schnitzel in Erfurt. Please Schnitzler, get better again. Note: This is the first time that I've posted something about food or a visit to a restaurant here and also that I didn't leave a tip. Hopefully this never happens to me again. And of course, when asked, I gave the waitress my unvarnished criticism.

Food: Was very tasty, but quite dry. Schnitzel Au Four with very little seasoned meat, rather with (almost) only cheese. Service: When asked if you could get extra sauce, it took until the food was lukewarm and you had almost eaten it. The ambience is great. They have also thought about how to keep guests occupied when they are looking at the wall (e.g. through monitors).

Unfortunately that was nothing. Through the window to the kitchen I could already see the cheese spaetzle near the floor in a pan on a plastic bucket. Despite this not exactly trustworthy storage, I still ordered it. Unfortunately! What came on the plate was a dreary, creamy mess. No mountain cheese on it, not seasoned. Bland, listless, sad. The iceberg lettuce was equally uninspired. Anyone who has ever eaten real cheese spaetzle will be disappointed here. What you can expect here is mac n' cheese at Kraft Dinner level. Others had the huge schnitzels. These were probably tastier than the cheese spaetzle, but no one was impressed with them either. The schnitzel portions were so large that half of all the plates ended up in the trash. Not exactly contemporary either. On the positive side, the ambience is quite pleasant and the service was efficient, if not particularly friendly. Better go somewhere else!

Could have been more sauce, otherwise really tasty and highly recommended.

The food arrived lukewarm, the tossed garden vegetables consisted of canned carrots and peas, the parsley potatoes were already pre-cooked and just "warmed up". The schnitzel was beaten to death and soaked in fat. In my opinion, the price-performance ratio is not right here.

Very prompt service and the food took less than 20 minutes 👍 Very tasty and rich!!!! 🤤 I would recommend a reservation in the evenings, especially on weekends. In my opinion, the prices are great for the center of Erfurt, the state capital!!! Recommended at any time! 👍

The location is great. I found the facility very cool. My meal was a disaster. A loveless salad with chicken. Poorly seasoned and dry. My child would cook better. The side dishes on the other plates were also just finished products. It was like cafeteria food. My husband's schnitzel was good though. Service very nice. I wouldn't come again. You only pay for the view of the cathedral and not for the quality of the food.

Huge schnitzels, very tasty prepared.

Food, price-performance, service top. The floor and the stairs to the cellar were very slippery due to kitchen grease. The toilets also needed to be checked and cleaned.
