Cozy little place but with a spacious terrace! Good atmosphere and top service. And the food is incredibly delicious!!

Nice pub... fantastic service, friendly and cheerful, which I respect the most 😉🫠 solid and really tasty portions... despite the noise and traffic, everything is clean and cozy. There are a lot of places in the beer garden, there are places at the bar and upstairs... it's worth coming here while traveling or on a walk... I recommend it 🥰😊😉

Unfortunately, our visit to the Schmittchen restaurant in Cologne was not satisfactory. We had hoped to be able to have a drink in peace, but the evening didn't go as planned. The waitress seemed annoyed and disinterested, as if she had absolutely no desire to work there. We felt largely ignored and when we asked about something, the answer came with an annoyed "Whoa" and a demonstrative eye roll. The atmosphere was not very pleasant and we felt more like a burden than a welcome guest. There was a lack of friendliness and effort to ensure the guests had a pleasant stay. The overall experience was disappointing and made us not to visit this place again.

Definitely worth a visit! Everything was great, the food was really delicious and was at the table less than 10 minutes later, sometimes you're lucky here when all the other shops are full. Some people here complain about the Köbe's mood, but you should take the whole thing with humor - it's just the Rhenish way and not to take it personally. I'd love to come back, I really enjoyed it!

Great typical German restaurant! A delight. Super well served. Local cuisine to enjoy delicious German dishes. The decoration is typical German too! Original and vintage at the same time.

Delicious food before going to the theater

good vibe and the food is quite delicious and has typical German dishes. However, there’s a services charges (tips maybe 10%). maybe a luttle salt for my taste

Our first meal upon arriving in Köln! The boss was very nice. The food was delicious. We didn't know where we were going and found this place by chance but we weren't disappointed. It’s also beautifully decorated 😀

In itself a nice and quaint shop with delicious food. The service was initially fine, however we had several unpleasant situations that marred the visit. When I politely asked whether the portion (in our case kale) could be made a little smaller, the response was very annoyed. This is definitely not possible, which was unfortunately made clear to us in a rather unfriendly manner. When it came to paying, it became even more unpleasant: there were six of us and we just wanted to split the bill into two parts, which obviously led to dissatisfaction with the service. The gentleman reacted very unfriendly, punished us with evil looks and in the end simply slapped the card on the table - a manner that was unfortunately anything but hospitable. It's a real shame, because the food was delicious, but the handling really spoiled the experience. A little more friendliness and flexibility would be desirable here.

Service unfortunately very unfriendly. Guests were “pushed” out of the venue. Cell phone was ripped from his hand. Anyone who only wants to drink and not eat is not welcomed. I had imagined Cologne's “cult pub” to be something different. It's a shame... I can only shake my head!

I had the Rhenish sauerbraten. That was really good. Nice staff. Cold Kölsch. Quaint pub.

I ordered the beef roulade. It looked really great, but unfortunately it was pretty cold overall, the meat of my roulade was tough, filled with a lot of mustard and a lot of onions, and the potatoes weren't cooked until soft. The restaurant is actually quite nice, quaint, unique, has character - that's exactly how I would describe the employees there. However, they could be a little more polite, nicer and more likeable. We almost felt thrown out when the table was re-set, even though we had only sat there for a short time.

Eating took a really long time and I think we were forgotten too. Had dishes where most of the things actually had to be prepared. Nice atmosphere and you meet lots of locals. I missed all the spices in the potato pancakes. Service was very nice despite the stress. I found the selection very good.

The four of us were pleasantly surprised, delicious Gaffel Kölsch, Leberkäse with egg and fried potatoes, zander fillet and brawn, everything was delicious and even free WiFi

Quaint little pub in the middle of Cologne. The food (sauerbraten) was great. The waiter was a bit brittle and lazy. They could have cleaned a little, everything seemed a bit dusty.

Cult!!! A traditional house. The food, service and ambience are fine. We were there with several people and opinions about the food were divided, some were very satisfied, others thought it was ok. I enjoyed the potato pancakes. Definitely make a reservation. The restaurant is quite small. The location is very central and right near the Theater am Dom.

How lucky we were to find this place, the food absolutely delicious compared to what we have eaten in Germany. And the waiters are pleasant and correct. Full of local people which is what we like.

Six of us had dinner with friends yesterday. Since we wanted to go to a concert afterwards, we had planned to leave the restaurant at 8 p.m. and therefore made a reservation for 6 p.m. When we arrived on site, we were squeezed into the last corner on the upper floor. Food was ordered and then dad began a long wait. We would have at least gotten drinks in between, but no. Two friends from our group didn't want any more Kölsch, so they simply didn't give anything instead. Until then, everything was taken with humor. At 7:20 p.m. we asked where our food was. "You'll be next" came a very short answer. When the food finally came, we all ate quickly; the hole in our stomachs was big. The food itself was good, the portions were very sufficient. Luckily I didn't go to the toilet until after dinner because Dad would have ruined my appetite. The floor is sticky, the wallpaper over the sink is brown and hanging. The sink has seen better days. When we said several times that we wanted to pay, the waiter came, threw the receipt on the table and left again. Each party then calculated their own amount. I also think the tipping concept is great. The waiter simply doesn't give out change :D only when asked Today we laugh about it, yesterday we were very disappointed.

Small restaurant in the heart of Cologne. Delicious schnitzel with fried potatoes. Schnitzel was very tender. Beautiful carnival decoration. Gladly again

I felt comfortable there. A nice landlady, nice staff. The inn was very nicely decorated, which adds to the coziness. I had a very good time. By the way, it was my first time there. Simply lovely people. Thank you. And the beer I had was very good.

Just a bad experience! Visiting this company ruined our entire day in Cologne. The greeting wasn't the nicest, but we didn't pay much attention to it at first. There were six of us, three of whom were not hungry at the time of the visit and had only ordered drinks, to which the waiter replied: "Just three dishes for six people and that's it?". We had to “justify” ourselves and explain that the others simply weren’t hungry. From that point on the service was just terrible. We were brought two cokes even though we only ordered one and we ended up having to pay for them. At a neighboring table you ordered a large beer (clearly audible and loud, heard throughout the room by everyone except the waiter), but you were given a small beer. We sat very close to the entrance, it was very cold and windy. We asked the waiter to close the front door, which he did with a very unhappy face. However, after that he kept going out and leaving the door open the whole time, so each time we got up and closed it ourselves. When we left and said goodbye to the waiter, he didn't answer us a single word. Also, the prices are absolutely overpriced for the quality of the food we got. A very unpleasant experience.

Small Cologne restaurant with a beer garden, rustic decor, delicious food. We were traveling in Cologne as tourists and we really like to eat something typical of the region. So we decided on Himmel and Ääd. The food was very tasty. If we end up in Cologne again, we would be happy to come back.

It was not possible to get a vegetarian dish in this restaurant. My request was a fried egg with fried potatoes and salad (with the request that I just leave out the meatloaf). I was told this was impossible and would otherwise take at least 1 hour and I certainly wouldn't have that much time. What a shame!!

Not impressed. Partner sat outside ordered beers. I went inside to use the bathroom. I was questioned by a rude waiter. I hadn’t a notion of what he said so assumed he wondered where I was going… I pointed outside to where we sat and he muttered back gibberish… rude and not necessary. Also toilets are for midgets and I’m not a small person.

Salad without dressing doesn't taste good...otherwise it's all fresh ingredients. After the third glass of Kölsch, the mood among the staff also changed

We ate there on a short trip to Cologne. Very poor service - no menu for drinks. There was a poorly printed paper menu for the food. Requests were not responded to or parts of the order were forgotten. Drinks that had not yet been drunk were cleared away without comment or question. No asking how the customer likes it, etc. Very bad food - zander fillet with lots of bones, salad with stalk, no vegetarian or vegan alternatives on offer. Ambiance - not good either. There was a card taped to the table (snack bar character). Simply not recommended!

Rude waitstaff, did not give drinks options and snapped when we took a moment to order our drinks.

The owner (I think) was extremely rude. Once we told him where we were from, his persona changed and he started slamming menus/plates down and being aggressive. We were given the "American" menu where all prices were greatly increased, at the end of the discriminatory service he then demanded a tip, a first for us in Europe. The food was just fine, especially compared to many good authentic German places within the city. I would highly recommend avoiding this place.

In itself it was good, but after we wanted to pack up the food, the waiter dropped the fork and put it back on the plate. Continued to package the food and bring it to us. When asked about it, the whole thing was denied. The boss came over and apologized, of course you couldn't take food with you anymore, but neither could you get a discount or new food. Paid full price. Very annoying because it was more than half that we wanted to take with us

Unfortunately, unfortunately really unfriendly staff. We would have loved to eat and drink here, but because one person was unfortunately holding the wrong bottle of beer in his hand, we were immediately shown the door.

The meal was okay. Nicely located in downtown Cologne. However, my partner and I were very dissatisfied with the service. We sat in the moderately busy outdoor area and waited an unusually long time before we could order. We were asked to "say what we should take" in an unfriendly and disinterested manner and then two wrong drinks were delivered. When I later wanted to pay by card, I was left sitting there again for a long time. After I waited almost 15 minutes for the bill, the employee disappeared again for over 10 minutes until he finished the bill without saying a word, without saying goodbye or saying a word (because no tip was given) and turned his back on us. We definitely won't eat here again. With the high gastro prices, you can avoid being treated like that when you want to have a good time. To be fair, I would also like to say that I had the impression that the other waiters seemed much friendlier and more competent.

Delicious food in the middle of the city center. The fried potatoes with roast beef were a dream and the service staff were always up for a laugh.

We went to Schmittchen twice on a trip to Cologne (lunch and evening) The boss was also there at lunchtime, the service was friendly and we got drinks and food quickly. Food (sauerbraten and heaven and earth) was very tasty. In the evening, exactly the opposite. Fried cakes consisted mainly of flour (there was another cook there). I had to wait a long time to order drinks.

Tourist trap, bad service, and no drink prices posted. Old Opa waiter was slow, rude, and essentially chased us off (2 couples and a baby), so we left without ordering.

Gute Lage aber Essen im ruckzuck Verfahren. Schnitzel mit Bratkartoffeln... Beides aus der Fritteuse.... Bratkartoffeln ohne Speck und Zwiebeln...einfach aus der Verpackung in die Fritteuse geworfen. Salatbeilage war OK. Letztlich war alles sehr fettig und trocken... 17.90€ ....da kann man mehr erwarten. Keine wirkliche Empfehlung...aber satt war ich. Fazit: Touristen werden hier sicher keine kulinarischen Highlights Köln's finden. Ob die Reibekuchen wirklich die besten Kölns sind wage ich zu bezweifeln.

Tasty food, fast service, medium price.

The portions were quite small and very greasy, unfortunately we expected something better in terms of taste. The staff was absolutely unfriendly. Unfortunately no card payment is possible, although I asked beforehand and was told that you could pay by card from €20.

The beef cutlet (Vina Schnitzel), which is similar to sausage and pork cutlet, made me want sauce. The beer was absolutely delicious.

We have loved Schmidtchen for decades because you can have a warm meal there even after the theater.

The owner was very unfriendly and rude. Unfortunately there is a lack of friendliness and humanity. If you want to eat peacefully in peace, this is unfortunately the wrong place for you. Never again. Not recommended unfortunately.

Very unfriendly staff. I was yelled at by the man with the bald head. Very aggressive about that. People shouted at me for no reason at all. I wanted to sit down and then I was written up with a cheeky request to move around and leave the store. Not recommended!!! Dad's food and the drinks were absolutely disgusting!! Never again. Very rude staff! The food tasted okay. My friend had roast beef with fried potatoes. Very small portion and cold. One thought it would be served warm.

The food was pretty good and decent size. The waiter was really not nice and you didnt feel seen, took a long time to get the food and the bill even longer even that we asked several times for it. Would not recommend going here.

Very tight, very Cologne "regular audience", therefore also a bit loud. Köbe's usual grumpy but quick manner. However, a laminated plastic menu card is impossible and careless. But the food was good across the board! Prices moderate. Gaffel Kölsch is also delicious. Nevertheless, I won't take guests there again.

Quaint restaurant in Cologne. Very tasty fresh food in a special atmosphere. There were some German dishes on the menu. There were four of us and we were all thrilled. Freshly tapped Kölsch rounded things off. The service is quick and cheerful. We felt well looked after. Downstairs it is wheelchair accessible. There is a step to the toilet. There is only one staircase going up to the first floor. If you need barrier-free access, you should point this out when making your reservation. They are happy to accept it. There is also standing room at the counter. In summer you can also eat outside.

I didn't eat there, but I wanted to go to the toilet there when I was visiting Cologne. The employee was VERY unfriendly, so I decided to go to the toilet somewhere else.

Friendly waitress, delicious food and good local beer

The overall package is really convincing: Four of us were there on a Tuesday evening. The Köbes was unusually friendly, the Kölsch was fresh, the food (Hämchen (hock of pork), brawn, roulade, roast beef) was deliciously prepared and very tasty. Rounded off with grappa and espresso, we were completely satisfied and also had very nice contact with the neighboring table (as is the case in a Kölsch pub). The ambience is simple and honest - like everything. We'll definitely be back!!

We ordered the house's recommendation without looking at the menu: 30 Nuremberg sausages with ketchup and mustard + a few slices of bread. Really delicious with a few Kölsch. The hammer came with the bill: EUR 39.00 just for the sausages!!!

I can’t comment on the food because I don’t have any other benchmark for local food. I give 2 stars because before getting in I ask to pay by card and they confirm it. Then, they want me to pay in cash not even making the bill, because 22,40€ is not worth enough for a credit card.

We were there for Rose Monday Zoch because there was very well made Kölsch from the glass for €3 and a few dishes to choose from. The location is good for shopping. One star deducted for the not exactly friendly service at the tap. Otherwise recommended.

It's been 30 years since I last ate such delicious coleslaw. We had bratwurst, schnitzel and ham. All dishes were very tasty in combination with beer. Thank you for the nice experience.

Smaller portions despite the price increase. 2 small slices of veal liver with 2 mini apple slices for €20.90. Cold shrimps with salad for €16.90. Something like that is not right.

Delicious Kölsch, normal German food. But! Dirty plates and tables. The waiter dropped the sauce from the dish onto the chair with the sauce down - he collected the sauce from the chair with a spoon back into the gravy boat and put it on our plates for our food 🫣

Restaurante del casco histórico de Colonia regentado por un alemán enamorado de Mallorca. Gran aficcionado al golf y el mar. La decoración inspirada en el golf. La carta es completa y el ambiente es muy agradable. Buena manera de integrarte en la ciudad y ver su verdadero ambiente. Personal muy agradable, en especial el camarero portugués.

Wir wollten mit zwei Kindern vor einem Konzert im Theater am Dom was trinken gehen. Da einiges an Tischen frei war, haben wir uns auch direkt hingesetzt. Der Kellner ist dann angekommen und sagte das man Getränke nur an der Theke bekommt und wir den Tisch verlassen sollen. Wir haben ihm dann mitgeteilt, dass wir uns mit den Kindern nicht an die Theke setzen wollen. Leider wurden wir nicht bedient und haben den Laden dann verlassen. Die Gäste welche das mitbekommen haben, mussten auch mit dem Kopf schütteln über das Verhalten des Kellners. Traurig das es mitten in Köln sowas unfreundlich gibt!

Ik heb nog nooit eerder een recensie geplaatst, maar dit ging echt te ver. Er liepen meerdere muizen door de zaak. De eigenaar reageerde alsof het de normaalste zaak van de wereld was. Nooit meer naar deze zaak.

Excellent food, hot and delicious in a nice environment in central Cologne. We had the Wiener schnitzel with pan fried potatoes and salad and the bratwurst sausage with sauerkraut. Both were piping hot and the sauerkraut was particularly delicious. Reasonable prices for good sized portions.

Endlich mal wieder "gut bürgerlich " essen und gut geschmeckt hat's obendrein! Preis stimmt auch, was will man mehr.

Restaurante nada concurrido, casi no hablan inglés bueno para los que buscamos algo más tradicional. Comida de 10 no tardaron nada en traerla, en la puerta tienen la carta en Alemán, no os estreséis como yo y pedid la de inglés dentro. Recomiendo pediros el Schnitzel empanado (lo de la foto). Raciones generosas, para estar cerquita de la catedral y la zona de comercios está muy bien. Musiquita chuli de ambiente. No lo dudéis este es el sitio 👸🏼💪🏻

Serveuse désagréable, je pense qu'elle n'aime pas les touristes. Repas sans réel saveur. Peu de choix au final car beaucoup de choses manquantes aussi bien au niveau des boissons que de repas....
